Pukekohe was scanned and now we're just waiting for iRacing to complete the build and release it. Hopefully around Season 3 or 4 this year is when it will release, and hopefully release with the new Gen 3 Supercars. Really cool track and produced some banger Supercars races until last year's final race there.
@@ccorbett88 yes, iRacing scanned it in Feb. I doubt it'll make this years builds, there are MUCH bigger fish to fry than some small NZ track (I love the track but compared to euro giants, or rain, it's nothing). I'm thinking S324 at the earliest
Unfortunately in Southern California you just have to build tracks outside of the LA basin as the land within the basin is just too valuable to put a track
This right here. I grew up in Myrtle Beach with the weekly racing here. Always considered This and Summit Point Raceway (which i live near now) to be my home tracks.
Dang. Here I thought Motegi just wasn’t using the oval because there wasn’t an oval racing series to use it. Well RIP. Calder Park, Eurospeedway, Twin Ring, Rockingham, we’ve lost a lot of large non-American oval’s recently.
Unless you've seen something I haven't, Lausitzring (Eurospeedway) is fine and currently owned by DEKRA. Twin Ring is half dead, but just needs some interest and investment. The only two i see as rightfully dead without heavy investment are Calder and Rockingham, and thats a damn shame none the less.
In a sense, iRacing has become a bit of an unintended method of track preservation. Tracks are not forever in the real world, but they can be in a digital form; though I’m pretty sure only one of these tracks was confirmed to be closing before it was digitised (Oran Park). It’s starting to happen a little more, especially with Oceanic tracks; Pukekohe had a strong campaign to preserve it before closing, and Sandown was also done along these lines; there have been rumours of its days being numbered for years, with the owners having made no secret of their intent to offload it for redevelopment. What I’m really surprised by is that iRacing is known to be sitting on at least one scan of a closed track that has demand from the user base, and hasn’t even released it as a tech track - Rockingham UK. If it’s a question of the artwork for the track, then releasing it as a tech track would avoid a good chunk of that, and it doesn’t necessarily preclude them completing the job later (see Long Beach).
Interesting video. I did not know about the earthquake damage to Motegi. Of course on the flip side North Wilkesboro was one that was resurrected thanks to iRacing. The Assetto Corsa modders have preserved or recreated some pretty interesting tracks too. Thanks for posting.
iRacing needs to be careful not to "lose" some of their scans by overwriting the old versions due to licensing rights (at least that's what I assume), see e.g. Watkins Glen and Virginia International Raceway. A shame not to be able to drive the old versions as legacy content anymore. I kinda fear that's what's going to happen with Spa-Francorchamps when it inevitably gets a rescan (we've been driving the same version for 13 years :D). Great video!
Thankful Mrytle Beach speedway will live on forever on Iracing. Enjoy racing there virtually and really enjoyed lapping there IRL on my motorcycle during MB spring motorcycle rally poker runs.
Abpout Motegi, the post-2011 oval still exists and at least the Visual part of it is still existing ownership Few years ago Honda said in a japanese interview that if some racing association put the money on project they would do it, but honda would not put the money for the project theyselfes, since it would rrequire loyt of money to fix the turns 2 and 3 and backstrech
Thing is, I hadn't seen Wild West, but the more I looked at it, the more I realized that a track in the game Wreckfest is based on it. Rattlesnake Raceway, and it is also incredibly fun in that game.
Concord Speedway was my home track, I was there every Saturday night watching my dad race from when I was born until it eventually shut down. It makes me sad passing it every day going to work and seeing a Copart sign at the entrance.
I went to California one year and just sent a email to Auto Club asking for a tour and actually got a tour and got to drive around the track.. was really cool.
Wreckfest has also preserved this track, but under a different name. I haven't heard of this one. Sorry. Although Phoenix is a mainstay in NASCAR, its road course variant is, unfortunately, no more. Once again, a name I haven't heard in a long time, but North Wilkesboro Speedway is coming back. Its first race back will be on the 21, just in time for the Coke 600. It's in Australia, so naturally I haven't heard of it. I've actually heard of this one, and I remember racing on it on... a PS3?! Yep. I raced on it on a PS3. It actually held its last race a few months ago, so... see ya, Auto Club. We'll miss ya. Although it's in Japan, I actually know this one as it's the Japanese version of Darlington.
Should include the Phoenix oval in that since they've butchered it into a pale imitation of its former self and put the start/finish on the backstraight.
The Phoenix Road Course is probably my least favourite road course in iRacing that I've raced so far. It popped up in the SL-PCC a couple of times and in the Mustang it just felt so clumsy and awkward, I could never get into a rhythm there.
@@turbo_marc yea thats why the name changed from Twin Ring Motegi to Mobility Resort Motegi last year same track though just name change and logo change

Texas WORLD Speedway in College Station Texas is no longer. It was on iRacing or R-factor back in the day but as far as I know it's no longer in any sim
When Nazareth closed, the new owners basically effed up the track on purpose to ensure that "nobody would ever drive around it again". So getting an accurate scan would be impossible.
Fontana had some of the best indycar races ever and I'm so sad that we don't have it anymore. Also Twin Ring Motegi was a great Indycar race, it was so fun to watch super late at night. Actually Danica Patrick got the first win for a woman in Indycar there. The only thing that sucked related to that race was when ESPN spoiled the winner on the ticker because it was tape delayed that year. That was so freaking wack.
I live like 10 miles from Concord and it is actually owned by a trash company now. The short track next the the main oval was used to race some gokarts in the 1990s and into the 2000s, and right before being shut down was used for bandolero and legends cars. One track that may not be a popular track, but, if youre old enough to remember, I would personally love to see Nazareth Speedway somehow preserved on iRacing, especially for the Xfinity Series and IndyCar does not get the credit that it deserves....
People really like gaslighting themselves into thinking Auto Club was always a beloved NASCAR track even though everyone found the racing mediocre to bad and people only started liking it after the announcement it was being torn down.
No it’s just some people actually appreciate hard to drive racing that can get strung out. I like nascar when driver skill is apparent, and I like nascar when it’s close racing even if it’s manufactured. Doesn’t have to be one or the other
I thought Fontana was built in the '90s by Roger penske? I would not consider it part of the cookie cutter ERA with all the mile and a half that NASCAR built. but I could be wrong
Really surreal that North Wilkesboro isn't on a list of this kind anymore. You love to see it.
I live here I didn't know either. Ever since iracing i really wanted to see a race there
@Alan Carsey well, you get your wish. 🎉

Good point and even if not iracing hopefully every track can be preserved in some capacity on a sim racing game

They need to do Nazareth. Such a cool unique track
Not enough left too scan. Not even a clean up similar to North Wilkesboro would be enough. They have to fudge pretty much the whole layout.

I agree. I used to race there back in the late 90s when I was still racing sportsman modified before going to sprint cars
what a great track and the crew that maintains the tracks conditions are top notch I've never seen a 1 groove race there
I remember looking into Lakeland's history, so many great tracks suffered because of the recession.
Prett much every short track suffered from it, and continues too till this day. Car counts and attendance never really recovered much if at all.
When iRacing finish and release it, you'll be able to add Pukekohe to this list too. It closed in April of this year.
