    That opening riff is absolutely killer. That should be on a record. The amps sound great.

    Pete, your demos are always top notch, but what really makes them stand out is the music is always interesting and perfectly suited to the particular sound. Fantastic!

  • @PeteThorn
    @PeteThorn  12 лет назад +4

    They are really quite different sounding. The Badger 18 and 35 have an incredible edge of breakup tone- when I go for that sound, I use a Badger, not the PT. The PT ch1 does that big Fender clean, and it's a different breakup when you start to push it. listen at 3:10- that's the sound I'm talking about, it's got compression and a smoothness to the breakup that's killer. If you need headroom, get the 35- if you don't, get the 18

    It's a V30 in a Suhr 1-12" mic'd with a SE VR1 and a 57

    Pete, are you micing these amps for the demo or is that just the camera picking up that tone?

    Man, I'll tell you what, I just bought this amp (largely because of this video), and I don't know how he's sitting so close to that thing with those settings. He must be using a cab in an iso box somewhere. This thing is LOUD

    Love the 35. Curious if it can still be good to play at bedroom/low volume for practice or would I need a ox or suhr load box?

  • @ericld11

    After watching your videos over the years, it seems that the 18 and 35 are more crystal Vox'ish. I'm pulling the trigger on an 18 today to plug into my Mesa open back 2x12.. Love the 18/35 tone and breakup - don't need the power. SOLD!

    Hey Pete, long time watcher, first comment. Was compelled to say that In my opinion this is one of your best tones. Know you have a sig. amp, but this thing is killer! Awesome tone and playing. Thanks for all you do for us.

    Hi Pete. Hope you don't mind the question, but I've heard that the Badger 18 breaks up so quickly it isn't of much use for clean playing. I have a Tone King Sky King that is great, but I want a different voicing. Don't need to play really loud clean without miking, just wondered if I could do home, very small gig playing reasonably clean. Thanks. Really enjoy the quality of your demos and your respect for your viewers. Rick

    • @JayValorMusic
      @JayValorMusic 7 лет назад

      rom661 I play through a Badger 18 and I can tell you that in the max clean headroom setting, this thing gets loud as fuck before you hear any bit of overdrive. These amps are loud. Haven't been able to put it past 1 at any venues except open outdoor venues but you're always micd up anyway.

    Wow... That Koko Boost sounds phenomenal with that 35! That's my idea of perfect rock riffing tone! Bet it cleans up nicely too, with the geetar vol. Another great demo, Pete. Thanks again!

    What are the tonal differences between EL34 and EL84 tubes? and does the solid state rectifier of the badger 30 impact the tone negatively?

    • @AidenBradley95
      @AidenBradley95 9 лет назад +1

      Davis Bader Generally speaking, EL84s have a more vintage sounding, spongier bass end. EL34s can stay a little tighter at higher volumes.
      EL84s will generally get you a little more sparkle and chime, too.

    Awesome. I can always count on you Pete. What about the speakers? I have a 410 loaded with Greenbacks for my PT. Are v30s the only way to go with this head?

  • @jordanfinn1123
    @jordanfinn1123 7 лет назад

    I absolutely love the sound and look of these amps! I'm looking to purchase and I need an amp with a lot of clean headroom since I get all of my overdrives through pedals. That being said, I know the Bella would be more suited for what I do, but I prefer the look of the badger. Would either the Badger 35 or 30 give me plenty of clean headroom to run my pedals through it in large venues? If so, would the 35 or 30 be better? The 35 has more wattage, but from what I've heard EL84's will break up sooner than EL34's. I'd love some input!

  • @TheRicokilla

    Pete, would be great if u take the time to show us ur miking techniques . When ever I try, it always end up sounding digitally compressed. Urs is just amazing. Thanks

    Here's to hoping for a response . . .
    I'm ready to buy one of these (thanks to your fantastic demo's, mostly). But I have 2 questions:
    1. The "gold standard" for taking dirt pedals is the Maz 18. Do you think the Badger takes Dirt Pedals as well?
    2. I'd be fine with an 18 watt amp, but your demos (although both remarkable) make the 35 sound a lot better than the 18. Is this right, or did your recording techniques just get better between 2008 and 2012?
    Thank you!

    Matt Snyder I am also interested in Pete letting us know if the new Suhr koko boost reloaded works as well as the original koko boost through the Suhr Badger amps! I just got a Suhr Badger 30 and I'm loving what I'm hearing from it with no pedals! Pete where are you buddy! :-)

  • @jsauce666
    @jsauce666 12 лет назад

    Pete,
    If I already own a PT100, which I love, do you believe there is too much overlap between the Badger 35 and the PT to justify another head?
    Also, if you don't need the xtra power, can you just go with the 18? Are they the predominately the same sans the additional 17 watts?

    So I take it the Suhr 35 is Class A through two EL34s? The 'clean' was so distinctively EL34. I guess that's how you get it to 35W.
