  • A comparison of these two wonderful Badger amplifiers from Suhr. The Badger 30 features 2 x EL34 power valves, while the Badger 35 sports 4 x EL84. This difference alone helps to define the character and feel of each amplifier.
    I'm using my Suhr Alt T Pro guitar throughout. Each amplifier was recorded separately through a Universal Audio Apollo Twin MkII interface and Logic Pro X.

    30 sounds more scooped, 35 sounds more "tubby". Both sound great. Thanks!!

    Really informative display and comparison of these two amps. The most through I’ve seen, even compared to Pete Thorn. Well done.

    Very nicely done demo and comparison. Tasty playing also. I have the newer version of the Badger 30 with the silver logo on it. It would be interesting to see how it compares with the older version of the amps that you are playing.

    Great video mate! I have the 35, (which I prefer in this video) it sounds a bit fuller and has a bit more unique character to it I think. Look forward to seeing your follow up vid 👍🏻🎸😊

    Such a great comparison of the difference between EL34's and EL84's. Both in what I'm assuming is an identical or very similar preamp circuit, cathode biased. Little more high end sparkle in the 35, definitely that woofy midrange of the EL34's. Super cool.

    Great sounding amps...really represents the differing characteristics between valves. 84's are fat warm & chimey(great for cleans) 34's snarl & love gain & at gig levels this translates to better articulation & grainy goodness...this is why we love a good plexi\800. Nothing wrong with the 84's drive tone at all it's stunning...especially on these fabulous amps. I'd be happy with either but I love my 30. Cheers

    Excellent video........lots of flavors and tasty clean playing to showcase these killer amps........I've always preferred the 35 over the 30 & 18.......They all have their place. Thanks for making this video!

    Great amp really did this looking at getting the 30 W myself price difference in this case I don’t think shows any value in tone different truly I think it goes down to a 5 W difference in power scaling think that we can definitely magnify out enough to hear some tone, but what I do hear is killer playing here a fantastic demo and you got a new subscriber and you also help them sell an amplifier because I’m about to buy the 30 like I said thanks I just love the aggression on the 30 that’s all I can say it truly is a little more like my Marshall Friedman gets a slight amount of increased aggression out of ELA fours but there is still a defiant of charm no matter how you slice it that appears in solo and you can hear the slight difference in brightness. They’re the most I think either way, thanks mate. 12:45 12:54

    Maybe stg with 4 el34s would be the ultimate choice, both for percussive and agressive rthyms and thick leads. That would up the game a bit though, I guess.

    Hey Jack, like some of the others, I found your channel through Peach's. Huge fan of your playing! I've been hunting for a good bedroom tube aml for a while which has led me to the Badgers. Its a huge plus that I could use them for gigging once all thao Corona craziness subsides. Do you feel that these apps are good options for home playing volumes with the power scaling? Also, if clean headroom is needed at band volumes, will the 18 hold up or should I shoot for the 30/35? I'm coming from mostly fender amp territory myself and hear people describe the 35 as more Voxish and the 30 as more Marshallish. What do you think? Looking forward to more content, just subbed. Cheers!

    I think the 30 has more sag....35 more punch and cleaner headroom....for smaller clubs and studio stuff the 30.

    are those amps loud enough for gigging? Cover music and Rock? No Deathmetalsh**

    • @blaine393
      @blaine393 5 лет назад

      Matz Lang yes certainly.
      Unless you need insane amounts of headroom you will be covered most all pub gigs and the like. For bigger venues mic and go through PA. The Badger is big enough for stage volume, small venues, and loud enough to play with a hard hitting drummer as long as you don’t need absolutely pristine cleans.

    how loud are the two in the room? is the 35 much louder, if any louder at all?

    • @jackgriffithsmusic
      @jackgriffithsmusic  6 лет назад +2

      Thanks for your comment - the 35 is a tad louder and seems more like it fills the room. The 30 is more cutting.

    30 = Modern 35 = Vintage...to my ears. Nice comparison, take note others..no extended noodling meant to show off your chops rather than the reviewed gear's capabilities. Wish more vid's were this well presented. Thumbs way up! Thank you Jack.

    35 sounds better here to my ear. More responsiveness to picking dynamics. A little more “sag” but that sounds good when you play it with confidence and with little error like you do here. Both great though.
    I personally prefer the 18 or 35 vs the 30 unless you are after a higher metal type gain... in which case the 30 does tighter palm muted sections and note separation on the leads under very heavy saturation.
    If metal is your style though I think the Badger is a poor choice anyhow; you will be forced to resort to pedals to get to the metal level of gain.
    Cleans, edge of break up, or hard rock sounds shine better through the 18/35s imo which is basically the sweet spot for the Badger line anyhow. If you are not after the classic rock sound and want something heavier, you are much better off with other amps with higher gain on tap such a lunchbox 5150.
