Not just a great product review, but also a lesson in how to dial a Plexi amp like a pro. Love it!
Got the SL67 MK II a few months now. Amazing amp. Those switches do alot and thanks for explaining them more in-depth.
"Ultimate Plexi" plus Pete Thorn = must watch!
For Pete’s sake, you can’t miss an episode
so great! looking for a YJM100 but this one seems much more stable and flexibility
Always makes my day watching Pete play through new gear.
Wow! This is the kind of amp design I can get into. So well thought out and of course having Tone Master Pete Thorn demo it is perfect.
Hi Pete
Just ordered the amp. Can’t wait to get this bad boy. The smile and pleasure you had demoing this amp was fantastic.
Jeff
Great job Pete, you really know your stuff. It's easy to see the passion you have for tone & you have given us lots of cool vids and tips over the years. Cheers 🙏
I love what you play … Eddie has always been my favourite player , mostly cause of what he plays as Keith Richards would say … the rhythm and connecting the open chords with chords up the neck is spot on . I ll be binge watching more Pete !! 👍🏻
I recently acquired a Suhr PT100 amp and I'm amazed at the sound and versatility! It was a treat purchase for a big birthday and I researched a lot of high end amps and went with Pete's. Great choice! These Suhr 68's sound incredible but I can say that I am happy that the PT100 is easier and more intuitive to dial in to those fantastic tones! Thanks Pete!
Lots of options there to get a tone with any guitar! Fantastic amp! Great demo as usual. John has done it again! Awesome!
John did a great job.
I really like hearing you use that 68 amp. 👍
That was so detailed and informative. I am looking to invest in a "plexi" and that was so useful. Thank you Pete.
OMG, thats the best amp sound I‘ve ever heard, especially that ACDC kerrang around 10‘ is magic. Sorry Mum, sorry kids, no holidays this year 🤷♂️
Loving the jumper option - I was hoping you were going to cover that - so very happy. Thanks Pete.
Ooh yeah, it sounds fantastic and very versatile! I would definitely love to get my hands on one. Thanks Pete.
Wow -- that amp sounds amazing. Thanks for sharing Pete!
Glad you like it!
Man this sounds absolutely amazing! Great demo, great playing! Thank you.
Thanks!
I've never heard anyone sound as great as Pete demoing a plexi and I like that he doesn't toss pedals on it, which distracts from that pure, wonderful tone.
Hey thanks!
I have one coming next week, been waiting a month and half for them to build it. I'm climbing the walls with anticipation!
I've always loved your tone and you have a tone signature for sure. Well, to me anyway. Your amps and pedals in the zone put me right into my zone and now I can set different amps and pedals to get the same tone. Huge break through. After all that now I don't need a preamp pedal. I thought I had to have one. Pete, I wish you would talk about the Marshall Super Lead. The new SL Suhr's are something else. I'm looking at the Hombre. I play E, A and classical guitar and they all have pickups. The Suhr Hombre looks very promising for handling all of them.
AWESOME AS ALWAYS, PETE!!! I got a Marshall 100 watt Super lead 1959 with the two 1960s cabinets back in 1977, I think... It had 6550 power tubes, which I just Googled, and had I known, and been able to, if it were possible, probably have switched out to EL 34s! ... Live and learn! At the time, I also did not know about matching tubes, so I got replacements when I needed them from an electronics factory distributor, which I think at the time cost like $10 or $12 a tube!!!-can you imagine???????... aaaaaaahhhhhhh.... The Good Old Days!!!!!!!... You know... Before food cost as much as rent or a new car!!!!!!!... Thanks, again, Joe!!!
And before Gibson began charging $40 for a pack of Gibson branded picks at the Gibson Garage. Seriously, $40 for a pack of picks and $400 for a sweatshirt with the Gibson logo. Their new slogan is “Gibson, the guitar of choice for lawyers and hedge fund managers.”
of all your guitars and videos over the years Pete my 2 favourites are the Scala and the red 335, they always sound killer especially through a plexi
Pete, your timing is absolutely perfect. I am in the market for the SL-67. 🔥🤘👍
Looking forward to hearing this! 🤘🏻
We miss these types of vids pete! [marshall\ed vids] Keep em coming! Great vid!
If people aren’t listening to your videos thru headphones, they are missing out. Great sound.
Not often I get GAS anymore, but maaaaaan this amp is pretty badass! Nice vid and playin Pete!
Finding time to nerd out with us is fun, thanks PT
Thanks!
Drop dead legs! I love that song. One of the most underplayed under noticed under mentioned great songs. Thanks!
Great info as always! Loving your Carter Vintage shirt too! I shop there frequently. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you for explaining the bright cap Pete! I watched a video from James Santiago about the UA Lion where he said that most people removed the bright cap on original plexi's, they just didn't like it. That was a great demonstration, thank you for that! I am understanding what the bright cap is a lot more now
Excellent! Glad to help clarify
That thing sounds incredible! Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Pete makes a cardboard box sound great!
Awesome! This was a fun one!🔥🔥🔥
I think your knowledge of the plexi is superior to anyone else I've heard or seen or met!!! GLORIOUS!!!
I have the 1987X on back-order... what is the breakout of that one, compared to these?
@@d3w4yn3 I have one of those and it sounds really great as well. But obviously you don't get any of those "tweak" switches that the Suhr comes with. In all honesty, if I could afford it, I would probably go with one of these new Suhr plexies..
sounds terrific in all positions
Mid-boost makes a difference on the pick attack sounds coming through. Sounds like a very useful box.
Would love to hear a snippet of that original SL67 demo ("Groomed Noodler"?) played through the updated amp with that classic 335 of yours. Terrific song, with a great guitar/amp combo. One of my favorites of yours, Pete.
Hi Pete, test the Jims 45, directly on FX loop and with pedals, green side is incredible, also has a great headphone output to play silent.
Sounds are awesome. Nice work
Awesome stuff Pete luv it brother..❤
Thanks Pete!
Sounds amazing Pete!
Thanks!
Amp sounds amazing. But, what I really noticed was when you plugged in your sig. I remember you saying once that one of your key requirements was to have an even balance across the strings, tone and volume. I really noticed that when you played that open A chord extending the octave. On the sig those high notes really stood out, to me, in comparison to the other guitars.
Sounds terrific.
Amazing Pete!! Oh boy I’d love a ToneX capture of the new Suhr!! What a tone!! Any chance of you selling some ToneX captures of these amps? You have the best tones - dialled in perfectly!
Great tones!
Must be nice to have friends like that make you stuff.
Great video Pete!!! I've been looking at pre-73 small box 50 watt Plexi amps for years. I've never been able to find a good one for a reasonable price. You can't find a cheap one any more, reasonable priced ones have changed transformers and other issues while the good ones are pretty pricey... if you can even find them. Then you've got the reliability issues if you want to run it hot for extended periods of time... and the worry of how much the value will tank if a transformer goes down. TBH, I'm leaning more and more towards buying a SL67. It just solves a lot of problems and you get a great Plexi. Why Marshall don't do a handwired small box 50 is beyond me!
Hundred percent agree, you'll be very happy. I'm sure! SL67- reliable, and all the tone of the old one
"lets go for the Eddie thing. turn everything up on TEN." Yes sir!!!
I want someone to look at me like Pete looks at a 47pF bright cap
Best comment 😂
4700!
@@matthewcasey7226 thanks for fact checking my joke!
Oh yeah!!! That 47 cap is magic!!!
Gnarly Marshall Kerrang Goodness ❤
great demo and sounds ( as always ) ... perfect adds to a plexi ... very cool would be a demo SL67 mkii vs SL68 mkii ... and perhaps also against the new Friedman plexi
THERE'S THAT SCALA, I LOVE THAT GUITAR!!!!!!!
Sounds so good!!!
I just love that sound (47cap)!!!!!
I’ve got the little Badger 30 and it’s very good 😊 ❤
Not only it sounds good, but they are built like a tank, if you haven’t seen the guts of this amp, search for it, they are amazingly well made.
It would be great to have a NAM or ToneX capture of this amp with your Van Halen settings!
Geez that thing sounds good. The top end on a plexi is so unmistakeable.
this amp sounds fantastic......
So good!
Aloha Pete! I want one! Mahalo Brah!
My 67 Just got updated to Mark 2. It was already fantastic before. The only thing I do differently is running the bright switch in the center.
What cab and mics? Did I miss that? Sounds incredible btw. Thank you Pete!
Sounds great, thanks for sharing! What cab did you use? Sorry if it was mentioned and I missed it.
Waiting for mine 🤟
Dude your buddy Dave Friedman just released his new "Plex" amp with built in Variac! It's bad-ass as well! Heard it live last night in Pittsburgh, it NAILS early EVH all day....
Sounds sweet!!
This amp is KILLER!
I hate plexi, but I love this rendition of it, I wish I could afford one. Great, in depth video, Pete!
The smile playing the Van Halen lick at the end.. Dream amp for sure haha
Saw that smile and knew exactly what he was feeling. Nice catch.
Sounds great Pete, but then I suspect that's down to you as well 😀
lovely amp. I must have treble sensitive ears, the bright cap on would give me a headache pretty quickly. i know everyone's ears are different. very versatile amp to tune it to your taste and master volume is killer. i used to have a jcm800 non master volume, four inputs, it was a big fat toned amp. the strat and no bright is amazing.
Love it, Pete!
How did you record the amp? Using the Greenbacks in your Marshall cab mic’d with the SM57 and the ribbon combo? Cheers!
Thank you. Great demo. I am looking at a 67 original but will now check out the (modded) newer versions. I take it for the UK mains versions the Variac switching has the desired effect. Does the same amp work on 120 and 240 volts with no extra basing required and something I've always wanted to ask you, can you hear a difference between 60hz and 50hz? ❤
Pete have you considered making profiles of all your gear and selling them online? You know how to make them sing unlike many others.
Should be called the JFC-100...Jesus that thing sounds amaazing.
Pete, do you know how this new Master Volume design works? I'm not a builder/designer or anything, I'm just very excited that there's a new & better MV for traditionally non-master amps. Thanks!
Sounds killer.
Very nice! but I'm not giving up my two UAFX Lion 68 pedals, and Friedman Pink Taco V2 😂
...And a matching 70ies haircut! ;)
Hey Pete I have a old Marshall and it's Mark 2 but not sure what year it is how would I check that out is there a way to do it by the serial numbers plus I just caught your Friedman take on the 68 Plexi that was awesome
Nice! I’ve been into a Plexi pedal as of late its called Animal by J Rockett! 🤘👽🎸
You know and it rocks 🤘
Is there a combination of switch positions which is similar to the Synergy Plexi module?
Suhr is THE BEST...Incredibly well engineered, the best components, great support, fantastic tone...call me a "fan boy" but I believe it's the truth. I own three Suhr guitars as well as four Suhr pedals, just trying to decide on an amp, probably the PT-100.
Good demo, Pete. Would like to see what this amp sounds like set for pedals though. Bukovac swears by the old super bass amps for being the best pedal amps. Mere mortals like myself will never get one of those, but the SL68 maybe.
Yeah, the super Bass spec is certainly great for pedals - totally agree with that.
The SL amps would work great too, you just have to set it not to gainy! Maybe jumper the channels, volume 1 on 2 or 3 with 100pf bright, volume ii on 4 or 5... killer set like that for your pedals.
What type of LP influenced guitar is that? Looks really cool.
Nice! What's the cab/speakers ?
Hey Pete, would you consider a having John wire up a Thornbucker neck with Alnico 2 to match the Thornbucker II?
Did you try switching pickups at 5:48 ? 😊✌🏻
Sounds awesome, damn, I need myself a plexi…
So how would this compare this against the new Friedman Plex?
can i play in a neighboroud? or is too loud to play at home?
If any manufacturer wants their gear to sound amazing, give/lend it to Pete.
What pickups are in the LP copy?
Hi Pete, I can’t decide between the 67 and 68 mkII… they should yield different results feeling wise when using the variac don’t they? Does the 67 become too spongy with the variac switch engaged for VH stuff? Thanks for your amazing content man 💪🙏
Just getem both!! Only live once 🤷🏼
I love it
Awesome vid! What are u listening to in the room?
Cabinet is miked in another room, so listening fairly loud through my studio monitors
Im waiting for proper demo of the Friedman plexi for the "ultimate" plexi. Not that these Suhrs sounded half bad.
They surprisingly sounds very much like all the old Plexis, Ive played. (not like modern Marshall Reissues)
Amp sounds amazing and is so versatile, but your hair reminds me to ask the most important question...Does it go to 11?
