Steve Rothery (Marillion) has to be one of the most underrated players in my opinion. He has an ability to play so melodically and soulfully. Thanks for the video, Jack. Looking forward to more of these discussions in the future.

I feel Ian Thornley is a mostly unknown and very underrated player. He is a huge influence on my playing. I managed to travel from Australia to see Big Wreck in the US on their tour last October.

Ya man I gotta say one of my personal favorites and I think one of the most underrated guitarist rite now is this dude named Jack Griffiths! This cat is an outstanding musician, if you heard him and didn't know what he looked like, you would think he was in his 50's or 60's! Plays way above his years and is very humble. Seriously though, I think your one of the better guitarists online today! Click for the content but I stay for your playing bro🤙

  • @MonteChristo2112

That incredible sound. Couldn't agree more Francis Rossi plays some haunting and highly charged leads - 'A year' being a prime example. Great stuff and well done with your channel.

Great video! I love your playing man, its amazing. Lots to learn from :) Subscribed.
I fell in love with Camel ten years ago. It seems unfortunate they lived in the shadows of the then Prog Giants. I think Andrew Latimer is underrated. His style is very melodic i would say.. very rock, but with all other sorts of borrowed styles including jazz elements. I can't express it properly due to my limited knowledge, but i think you should definitely check them out.
Thanks again for this series of response driven episodes. Wishing you the best.

Hi Jack. In the conversation of underrated guitarists I often think of Dickey Betts. Do you have on him? He had such a lovely style of rock guitar with jazz and country inflections. Very rhythmically interesting in his solos. I think he is rather under-praised, having to play under the great shadow of Duane Allman (who is rightfully praised as one of the best ever). Dickey's solo on Blue Sky is truly special. He's also an underrated composer. High falls, Jessica, Blue Sky, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed. Beautiful stuff.

  • @dver4624

Totally with you on David Gilmour. He's a colossal figure and has made a massive impact in the guitar world, but he hasn't 'grabbed' me either. As ever, great playing Jack. I don't bother with gear reviews from other music shops now because you play rings around all of them in your Peach videos. That Tele is lovely, the Badger sounds great as well.

Rossi was great and so are you. The outro to drifting away encapsulates all that was great about rossis unique qurky melodic phrasing. The later pop caberet approach probably detracts from how great the quo were. Been digging. Tony iommi and Glen Tipton lately and realising what monster players they were.

  • @LeeJHodgson

James Burton was such an influence on a great many players (especially Jimmy Page) in terms of stringbending (James installed banjo strings on his Tele, which made it so easy to bend - and other players in the 1950s just couldn’t comprehend how Hanes was achieving such slinky bends because, almost everyone was using 13-gauge strings with a wound third but James had/has a plain 12-gauge third string! Eddie Cochran was another early adopter of unusual (for the time) thin plain strings, especially a skinny 3rd string. Oh, and we mustn’t forget the man that has been called ‘The stringbending king of the planet’: Jerry Donahue.

Hi Jack. I notice, looking at your Amp rack there, that you're a fan of small cabs and smaller wattage heads, presumbaly because you'll always mic-up at your gigs. Would you ever have a reason to go 100w Marshall + 4x12 these days at all? Also...where is that metal shelving from, looks study!

Jacky boy, Uncle Gaza here. Love your playing as ever, absolutely fantastic. On the Gilmour issue though, the Another brick in the wall solo is pretty special. Yes, it’s just pentatonics, but the nuances and bends and rhythmic nature of that solo make it a perfect fit for the song. Two solos were key to me picking up the guitar, Baker Street and Another brick in the wall. Both are the cherry on the cake of unforgettable songs.

Hey Jack, thanks for the rec on Quo...I’m spinning them on Apple Music now. Great Stuff! So, I was listening to your tone and attack here, and made a bet with myself (based on my own current Tele exploration-coupled with the Rick Beato video on string gauge). You seem here to have a good amount of what has been seeming to me to be “fingerboard tone” when I’ve been tinkering with different setups. Are you playing 9’s pretty close to the board, I.e. low action? It has beautiful juicy thunk and rasp, but not the bad “rattle” when you play here. Love it. It’s such an important to great tele tone, to my ear. Thanks for the videos! Please keep going! Learning so much from you. I would love it if you offered online lessons! I’d sign right up. Cheers.

Man I was looking at every Badger 35 video I could find trying to find what people thought about it so this is a pretty glowing review. I wonder if it's still the case. I was looking at the Maz but I really like the idea of power scaling. As cheap as the Mark I Maz's can be found I'd prefer the Mk II so the price is about the same. Something about the way marshall type circuits devour pedals.

Man killer tones, and that opening jam, wow on fire!
Question would you choose new guitar or new amp?
I’d buy a new Tele in a heartbeat but was thinking I need a 335 in my collection... on the amp dilemma I have a Mesa Lonestar & a Stiletto mk2 Deuce so have El34s and 6L6s sort of covered...
any suggestions for a complimentary amp to add? I love the badger tones today for the Vox-esq vibe but also keen on the Bloomfield Drive or Maz38... keen to hear your thoughts... home for me guitar wise is generally tele’s
    Cheers

Badger is a great amp, but my vote goes to the Marshall SV20h, for the simple fact that they managed to pack the real deal in a lunch box format, so easy to move around, which is so important today. I like also the Orange lunch boxes, but not as much as the Marshall SV. Not many clubs allow big volume today, but in case you need it, the SV20 is as loud as a 50watts amp.

  • @francesco0185
    @francesco0185 3 года назад

I love Gilmour of course, but it's an obvious name to spend talking about bendings and expression. That makes me suppose that many people always listen to the same music, and it's a pity because it's full of great guitarists out there. Uli Jon Roth for example played tons of bendings in his great solos. And so many others.
    - About amps: don't know what to think. Because I grew up in a family that still have lots of Fender amps at home. And I have a Brunetti Singleman and a Marshall mini jubilee head with its cab in my flat. BUT the OD pedals are so good that I'm asking to you: is it worth today to buy another amp or can I just choose the right OD (and learn to use it properly) to be ok? It's a sincere question, cause I don't have the answer. When I use my Brunetti plus a couple of ODs (JHS Andy Timmons and Bogner Wessex) I'm not so distant from the Mini Silver Jubilee distortion. So I wonder: was my Marshall really necessary? I'm totally confused...
