  • In today's video, we discuss the current social media trend, which has seen women answering who they would rather be trapped in the woods with - a man or a bear. We also link this to Game Journalists & Baldurs Gate 3 last year.

      I Wonder has anybody reached out to ask the park Warrior her opinion on this especially given her calling card was usually a little drawing of a bear.
      Yeah I know deep cut there's only maybe three people on the internet that are reading this and know about the park Warrior. It was a short story that got published I believe it was Reader's Digest back in the '80s.
      It was a attack victim gone vigilante for anybody that wants contacts and the name of the story was the park Warrior.
      And depending on the species of the bear is very accurate. About the only species of bear you really got to worry about is a polar bear to be brutally honest. A polar bear will hunt anything in my understanding of the species and they have no fear of anybody or anything. If it's me it's food.
      Most other species of bear won't attack a human unless they're either sick threatened or protecting their young. You'd be surprised how hungry a bear has to be to actually attack a human for food under normal circumstances. Most species of beer if you can smell it you've got enough of a heads up to give that SOB some distance without looking like dinner time. For the record I'm not a big fan of bears and for those of you reading this that don't know and are not familiar with the woods unless you're with somebody in the woods you're alone in the woods with a bear you just don't know it. So put that in your little pipe and smoke it boys and girls. Whenever you go into the woods you are bear adjacent I speak from personal experience where I live in a very wooded part of Nova Scotia and bears are my neighbors. I mean that in a very literal sense they've been spotted on my property and I'm not particularly keen on bears and I don't even think about it. I've intermittently been close enough to pet one more than once not intentionally LOL. Had a handful of Close Encounters while in a vehicle and that was too close for comfort LOL. One of them was trying to encourage a woman to get the hell back in her vehicle and stop taking pictures because that's a cub calling for its mother you dumb moron and it ain't going to be so cute and cuddly when 400 lb plus Mama comes running. Literally pulled up on a cub in the yellow line of the road and this woman close enough to Pat it on the head taking pictures. Stupid tourists. Likewise I've twice nearly clipped one where it ran out in front of me and had an encounter with one going to the bank machine where it was about 10 or 15 ft away from me on the sidewalk. Not a very big one for the record but still not very big so was kind of questionable. I'm surprised anybody asking that question doesn't already know how prevalent they are in the woods and you generally don't notice them unless you smell it. And most people don't know the smell of a bear in the first place to notice it. Some of them I think are more pungent than others is why not everybody notices.Polar bears are the species that give me the creeps not only are they in my understanding the biggest of the fuzzy meat eaters but they are basically a great white shark with fur. Not only are they big they're coming and they will hunt anything. And if the bear happens to be humble drum if I'm lucky he brought some beer. Again a little deep cut for you nerds out there a few of you know who humble drum is.

    I’m curious if the people who make these questions up are aware that these questions are either loaded, or lacking in context?

    • @yumyumeatemup
      @yumyumeatemup Месяц назад +1

      Very much so it is both. ESPECIALLY with this question. The question is posed disingenuously from the start because the person posing the question ISNT interested in gathering data for the amount of women lost in the woods who may suffer potential bear attacks, nor are they interested in potentially raising awareness for how women who find themselves in such a situation can possibly take steps to protect themselves. That is why they make sure the question is ambiguous as it can possibly be from the outset. By making sure they cant reassure the woman that the bear is possibly something they can scare off, run away from, or seemingly just ignore it limits an obvious reply to it being the bear. Same goes for the man. They don't specify if the man is someone you know, is a raving lunatic, is handicapped in any way, is in the woods for a specific context (aka a rescue worker etc).
      By making the question purposefully ambiguous the question becomes less so about being in the woods alone with a man or a bear, and rather is a subtle jab at the relationships in current year between men and women. Women know full well when theyre answering the question that the situation theyre gonna land themselves in with the bear is most assuredly one of life and death. Be it the bear is hungry and wants to make a meal out of them, or simply a protective mother shielding her cubs from a perceived threat, or just a violently territorial grizzly. And yet they choose the bear, why? So they can take it as an opportunity to shit on men (notice how this question is aimed predominantly at western women) implying they are more ruthless, deadlier and violent than a bear when thrust into a scenario of chance encounter. Think about how COLLASSALLY fucked up that kind of statement is and then aim it at 50% of the worlds population. These women deserved to be clowned and men have every right to be angry. Every woman that unironically answers bear deserves to find themselves face to face with one and no man should lift a finger to help them out.

      @almond3066 Месяц назад +1

      Exactly, Im a woman but I keep thinking to myself how MASSIVELY different I would answer depending on the bear and the man
      I keep going on what the average murder from what I've seen in where I live is aswell as the average bear attack where I live and I feel like it would be either a stabbing by a random mugger or a grizzly mauling me, which id probably take the stabbing because it would be alot less brutal and I'd be in one piece. If it's a serial killer vs a black bear however I think I'd be able to scare off the bear (since black bears are scared easily) vs a serial killer who'd obviously make it alot worse on me
      The problem is people go to the conclusions they want because of all the variables, it's definitely a loaded question made to cause an argument/discourse no matter how you answer because it'll always circle back to "WHAT ABOUT ____" or "WELL BEARS/MEN DONT DO THIS"

    So I’m a 37 straight male with a modest amount of luck in the romance department and I just want to say I don’t blame women for choosing the hypothetical bear. With your standard bear you pretty much get what you see, with men like myself you never quite know what you’re getting. On the surface you could be getting a glorious golden retriever in human form, under the covers there could be a ton of underlying insecurities that could potentially bubble up to the surface. Most men don’t know how to address these insecurities and it tends to affect them in some pretty extreme ways and I completely understand why women would choose to avoid going through that kind of uncertainty.
    So with that said I have a message for my fellow men, get over yourselves. You’re never gonna be the guy you imagine yourself being if you keep letting the fact that the kid next door got a brand new motorcycle when you were 9 and all you had was a crappy bike, also just because a woman tells you no to a second date doesn’t mean you get to spam them about Bobs and Vajeen while simultaneously dragging their names through the dirt. Also stop posting Bear statistics, it’s kind of pathetic!

    The question is clearly talking about a dangerous bear and an average man. The original guy who asked this question on TikTok specified this.
    The point is that idiots will judge men by the worst possible man and THAT is where the issue is. The fact that almost every woman asked concludes the man is more dangerous shows this. The fact is that an extremely small % of men would be a danger to the woman. In fact, the vast majority of men would take it upon themselves to PROTECT the woman in the woods. That is literally a man being put into the position he is designed to be in...

    In the woods if you encounter a man you're most likely to come across a Hunter, Hiker, or Ranger.
    Serial Killers and Rapists could be in the woods, but at a less likely volume than the afore mentioned other men.
    Likewise, for a bear you will most likely come across a Black Bear, Brown Bear, Grizzly, or Kodiak, which sizes range from 180lbs to 1400lbs.
    Bears are omnivores and there is a chance it could leave you alone, or there is a chance it will eat you, while you're still alive. If you have ever seen the movie the Revenant based on the true story of Hugh Glas, that is pretty much what a bear attack is like.
    Though, your chances of fighting off a Black Bear are about the same (or less) as fighting off a man, but there is a wider bear variety and they just get more dangerous.

  • @Hambs23
    @Hambs23 Месяц назад

    Yeah, it's a purposely vague question that is presented as if both are 'obivously bad', yet it lacks a lot of context.
    You could ask if you would rather be trapped in a cage with either a human or a dog, and the answears would be similar. Some dog breeds are more likely and capable to shred your limbs and end your life, while others tremble in fear 90% of the time. The person could also be the nicest one you ever met or a psychopath.
    But returning to bear vs man:
    - Grizzly Bear vs Rescuer = Rescuer
    - Panda Bear vs Criminal = You can chose the crime, but a Panda Bear very unlikely will harm you in any way.
    - Polar Bear vs Regular Citizen = If the Citizen is hungry, they'll either ask you to help them find food or search for it themselves. If the Polar Bear is hungry, you're the food.

    I dunno if any of the Man vs Bear things have been in any way scientific... most of the clips are people walking around some town and asking random women... and, of course, showing what they want to show, which is usually the women who said "bear." I have no doubt there are plenty of women who said "man", but we don't see those, because it isn't provocative and doesn't generate clicks, or further the poster's particular "message."

    It’s an impossible scenario to ever get into a situation where you could choose between a man and a bear, except if it was some type of Hunger Games where the organizers would make you choose. More interesting hypothetical scenarios would be for example: « Would you rather spent 800 bucks on the new PS5pro or invite your partner on a fancy weekend trip? »

      In the West people do not have any real issues with life anymore, it's always funny to read about how hard it is to live in the US. So, naturally, when you have no need to actually struggle to survive - you start living in the fairy tale where a modern Western "soyboy", who can barely handle any danger, is more dangerous than a bear, which evolved over millions of years with a sole purpose of hunting down and eating you.

    Having grown up in bear country, if you can survive a bear attack, you can definitely fight off a man. Bear's will mess you up. Black, Grizzly, Polar, Sun, doesn't matter. They will relentlessly try to get you.
    I've never understood the over-sexualization of relationships in RPG's. I play TTRPG's and we steer clear of stuff like that. I've played with tons of different groups and I've never seen anyone do that kind of stuff. Maybe I just keep good company? I think it is super disrespectful to have stuff like that, ESPECIALLY if you have a mixed group of players. Disrespectful and weird. Ergo when I run into it in games I think it is weird, not everyone is a teenage horndog.

    The question is not that difficult, "stuck" means you can't get out so you are lost in the woods, as for what type of bear or man... Think both worse case scenario and best case scenario, what would you choose in it was the worse man and the worse bear as your two options? what about best bear and best man then... what would you pick? In both cases the smart answer is: the man, worse case scenario you might have a chance at fighting him off even if it's minimal, best case scenario the man will help you get out of the woods, the bear will run away you leave you alone AND still stuck in the woods.

  • @WcaVR
    @WcaVR Месяц назад

    Well, i trust men everyday in service jobs , food, health etc. (even just walking down the street)
    The question is as you showed fully loaded.
    it was to point out that the women can't tell if the man will do her long term harm, a dragged out demise, but the bear quicker.
    I think personally it's unfair to label men with just because they were born with male organs as guilty of things they majority don't commit.
    The biggest things in human history started with segregating people by color of skin or sex & the question is only about labelling men as whole while labelling any male who felt attacked as a misogynist (a word which is continually used out of context today).
    That's my take.
    I agree that the question lacked information, it left too many variables & was just about causing outrage... but sadder still - it showed that being misandrist is fine and reasonable towards men.

    I live in the woods of rural Northwest Wisconsin, which is in the Midwest region of the US and pretty close to Canada, more specifically Lake Superior. Anyways, I run into black bears semi regularly. I even hit one and totaled my 2014 Ford Fiesta back in 2016. I would still choose to encounter another man or even just another person than a bear. While black bears don't always attack people, they still can't be very aggressive and I even recall a time where a local custodian at my high school got mauled by a bear. This man, he wasn't very tall maybe 5'4" in height, went to go get his dog who was outside and unbeknownst to him since it was dark outside, there was a wild black bear arguing with his dog. The bear then preceded to attack this man and left him nearly dead. He lost his left eye, the use the most of his left arm, and he was somewhat crippled from the events of this attack. As a result of his injuries, he had to retire from his custodial position at my high school and now he collects a disability check as well as from his penchant from the school. Luckily his medical bills were paid thanks to a few benefits we held in the area and at the high school. His retirement was on honorably grounds too.
    So with my experiences, that's why I choose a random person. I know how most people are in the woods and they're mostly kind and somewhat reclusive kind of people. They'll help you out if you're lost kind of deal but you'll more than likely have to find them on rather than they will find you.

      Sorry to hear. Three things to point to in this account though.
      1. The so called "trashcan bears" are of course an anomaly, (and not really relevant to the woods posit of the question of course) that can be more dangerous because of this. The irony is that animals that are accustomed to humans and their environments are far more dangerous than the ones who are not. Littering kills.
      2: Dogs. In almost every case were someone do get attacked by a bear, be it in the woods or elsewhere apparently as per your account, the dog brings on the attack. Usually by first triggering the bear, and then retreating to its pack leader for protection. The owner of the dog.
      3. Yes, not being very tall puts you at a disadvantage. But most people, even short women can appear to be bigger than most bears. Just by the right to bear arms. High. ;)

    I honestly find the ‘man or bear in woods’ question really freaking stupid.
    First of all, you are assuming, by asking me that, that I’m so stupid that I would be dense enough to enter the woods, assumingly in a place I have never been before, without either another person or some form of defense against said bear or guy if things went south.
    Second of all, you are assuming that I would be assuming a person I meet in the woods would be inherently bad by default. Using the lack of clarity for this example, I’m going to say the woods in question are your typical hiking trail forest. So both kinds of encounters are normal.
    My answer to this question is that… It really depends. Either way I’d be trying to avoid confrontation and injury to both parties, and either way spray tends to be a good deterrent.
    I also know how one is generally supposed to react if a bear acts threatened, and I took martial arts for self defense reasons.
    Basically, I agree with Lady Decade’s response. Question is most likely loaded intentionally and lack of clarity makes a proper choice impossible.
