I have literally seen 100s of space related videos on RUclips & it blows my mind that this is the first time I'm hearing about the barycenter. Not gonna lie, this video significantly changes the way I imagine our solar system in my head. It adds an extra layer of delicious complexity and I will definitely be pondering over this for the next few weeks.
I wonder how the Earth's tilt with respect to the solar plane affects this entire system.

Fun fact. Charon the moon is pronounced as 'share-on', and was named by Jim Christy after his wife Charlene. The Greek name Charon (mythological deity responsible for ferrying dead souls across the river Styx) is pronounced as 'Care-on'.
Most astronomers wanted Jim to name the moon as Persephone (Pluto's wife) as a nod to the planet Pluto.
The happy coincidence was that Charon, in Greek mythology, worked for Pluto.
So the astronomers all agreed to go by the name Charon as the moon for Pluto

  • @ArupKarmakar98

I do think that there is this other reason why it is said in the way “moon revolves around the earth”
As we look around we find many examples of centripetal force and centrifugal force cancelling each other.
Stone tied with rope on finger and made to rotate about the finger. So in that case we will have always say stone is revolving around the finger. So it is due to the available examples around us that makes teachers explain the things that way.

You and I contain some atoms that were once in the body or brain of Isaac Newton.
All of us and everything human perceivable on earth, including one dog's single poop, contains atoms made in multiple supernovas, millions of light years apart, and millions of years apart, coming together in the process of planet formation - that is, we all have material not from our sun. Everything on earth is star dust.
As the moon and earth revolve around their barycenter, the solar system and its bodies revolve around its barycenter, the sun and the milky way also revolve around the respective barycenter, and the milky way itself is moving away from other galaxies at incredible speeds. The bigger the scale of the motion, the higher the speed, not lower.
In short, there is no such thing as genuine straight line motion in this world. It's all convenient frames of reference.
Nobody teaches any of that. Cognitive load.

I would love if you would have used " axis " instead of "point" because although the plane of rotation is the same in both examples , there are many systems ( especially multi-planetary ) where the plane of revolution might be different and hence the AXIS of rotation becomes the more accurate representation.
