Great review, Russ. One of these days my reviews will be as polished (hopefully) as yours. Had my Tripltek since 10/20/20. It was quite a bumpy road initially. Software issues. Than after a conference call with a Tripltek rep, and a 1.25GB firmware upgrade, all is well. And yes, I've learned to make sure I keep a small flat tip handy for those port covers. And thanks for the heads up on the tablet holder as well. I've been taking to cinching the strap around the neck of the existing tablet holders for added stability. BTW, I do fly DJI as well as Autel. Works great with both.
Hi Russ, I have ac Acrotor mount also. It is excellent with an iPad mini 2 or a phone. It did not grip my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 well enough. I was in mid flight tapping the screen when the tablet fell out of the mount. I started running my neck strap through the bottom mount. This changes the angle of support and helps hold the tablet in place. Do use the included tools to lock the mount to support weight.
I had a problem with the thickness the tablet and bought the Lifthor Mjolnir tablet mount for my Mini1 and it is stable and well made. It is pricey but so is this tablet. I tried 2 others from Amazon but had to return them. I called Tripltek for their suggestion and this Lifthor made the most sense
I already fly with a crystalsky monitor and for me it's the best for the job. I wouldn't want to use the tablet for anything other than flying my drone. That way it stays clean and free from any bugs from downloads. The triple tek is nice thou 👍

I have found this tablet to be excellent for its purpose, but additionally it is built like a tank. One concern voiced by others is the resolution, but once you start using the tablet the resolution becomes a non issue. Be aware though, that 90 degree connectors will not work because the connection port is recessed, however the tablet came with various adapters, which did work.
So I did some pretty deep diving on these ruggedized tablets and they are widely available from suppliers in china. I'm not going to share exact links or list prices because what Tripltek has done is have them branded and import them likely in quantities of 500 or so. Hugerock was another company that was selling these under their own badge as well. My biggest concern is not that companies resell these to make a profit, everyone deserves to make something for such a process but what does concern me with these particular models is the age of the processors inside, they're about 4 years old and likely may not go too far past the android versions that come installed on them. I don't know if this would mean obsolescence any time soon for drone apps but as tech moves forward some android apps require newer versions of android to install and this could render such tablets outdated in a few years. On the plus side, these tablets seem well made, they actually have a battery that could be replaced and new models are always being made with updated processors and the same 1200 nit screen. I even found them in 8" and 10" browsing alibaba and chinese suppliers. I'm actually going to return the defective one I have through amazon and have since ordered the newer model which at least goes to Android v 9. Even though yes, one could potentially find these direct from china at a reduced cost I do believe support and people getting paid for introducing such products to the market does have value. It would also likely take 3 weeks to get them direct from the source. It will be really nice if Tripltek (which I'm guessing is a very small company) works with users of drones to eliminate any bugs or issues now and in the future and give us solutions for something that really isn't easily found.
I would definitely consider this tablet and sell my Crystal Sky....but no HDMI out port. I have a ground monitor station that I hook into using the HDMI connection for people to look at while I am flying. I don't like clients looking over my shoulder while I'm flying.
@@jeffbaker1 Did you test it on a CrystalSky or on the tablet? I don't think CrystalSky supports video output via USB Type C since it already has a full size HDMI Port. I don't think the display of CrystalSky's processor supports 3 different display outputs. If you tested it on the tablet and it didn't work, then it's a real bummer because that would have made it perfect.
@@detroxx56784 I use the HDMI out from the crystalsky. I have not had a need to test otherwise. The Tripltek is what I was referencing. Does not look like it has any video output from any type of connection. I would purchase the tripltek and sell my crystalsky if it had a video output option.
Few points Russ -- There is no HDMI. Screen display is 720p. The best mount to use on the MS2 controller is from LifThor - Bar none .. This is the best. As always great information, the only thing I would like to add is that I agree with you about the mounts don't hold well, that is very easily resolved with a flat magnet mount (similar to the ones used in cars) glued to the mount. this works great with the built in mount on the tablet it self.

Hi Russ, Great video on the Tripltek. I’ve had mine about a month and love it but have had problems finding a USB-C cable that works. The tablet comes with a small white adapter so I use it along with a USB-C and a mini USB cable. Tried several dedicated USB-C cables but they give me scrambled video feed while I’m using the Mavic Mini. Take care!
I just watched Ken Herron talk about this tablet, and I only have one thing to say... Galaxy Tab S6 used off Ebay!!!! While this tablet is nice. I don't think it is worth the price. If it were 400 bucks, then I could see it being worth it. Also, most Cell companies run the Galaxy Tab S models on sales all the time, so you can likely get a brand new one pretty cheap, with 12 months of cell connectivity of course. I would definitely choose this tablet over anything Apple though! You couldn't pay me to own that brand!!! Great video Russ!!! Thanks for reviewing this tablet. I'm sure many will find the rugged case well worth the cost.
Russ, Great video. Based (pretty much) on your review, I ordered the TRIPTEK tablet and it is scheduled to arrive tomorrow (7 Jan 2021). I'm super excited to get it and fly my EVO2 and Holystone drones with it. Thanks again for the great review and keep up the good work.

You didn't mention that it only displays in 720p,, and it is an older version of Android. And it was what the military was using till they updated to something better, so this company is trying to repurpose this one. I've been using my iPad 11'' air for years and have no issues with it and I have the right amount of screen size and quality video 1080p, and it's not heavy. If they come out with a bigger one with updated android software and at least 1080p to 4k screen, then they would have a winner. Love your channel and videos Russ..
Always enjoy your content & presentation. Also watched the Pro model on other Post... I’m close to purchase; both impressive on 1200 Nit screen & durable case. Those are the 2 highlights, compared to other Newer Tablets like the Tab S7-plus... for a little more the S7+ has more in gained specs, performance, size, Android 11, etc. The 1200 Nit is nice, but it lacks everywhere else for the price. CrystalSky Bright (1000n) & UltraBright (2000n) are similar in both older hardware & specs... but a Bright Nit screen is a plus!!
Russ....Appreciate the video. Unfortunately, this tablet older is no longer available on Amazon. Have any other recommendations for a tablet holder for the Tripletek Pro?
Great review.. compare with your iPad, how is the response ?, speed is what I mean, many of the android tablets I used they feel slow, drag, not instant feel as the iPads, on the specs I don’t see microprocessor speed as an sample. How fats run the apps, and open. Etc... I hope I explain myself. Thanks keep the good work.
Thanks Russ! I note that the Samsung S20 Ultra has 1300 plus nits. It is comparable in size and you have a brilliant camera and phone. Price wise it does close more than $600. But, you get what you pay for. Just saying!
Hi Russ. I want to purchase that tablet but I'm a bit concerned because I'm not 100% sure it will be compatible with my Inspire 1. Do you know if it is or not?
Interesting to see this review pop up, I just got my Tripltek a week ago, love the brightness but twice I had it turn off mid flight... not a screen saver or sleep mode but a hard shut off where I saw the Tripltek screens and it went through a restart. Luckily my drone wasn't far away and I was able to reconnect but it was very disconcerting. I contacted Tripltek directly and they were very responsive and they have offered to exchange it but tech support said the problem is likely from a not fully connected USBc cable. I'm fanatical about checking such things, first it happened with the provided extension , I figured maybe since it's an extension that creates more failure points so I purchased an anker 1' usbc cable that seems very secure, however just today I had the same shut down happen again while I was flying for no explainable reason. Maybe I just got a defective unit. I'm curious if anyone else has any issues. Also some apps like kittyhawk crashed when I tried connecting to the drone.
Thanks for sharing this. I want to hear stories like this, because in the long run it will make the products we review better. I know that they are very responsive and I hope your issue gets fixed. I have not had any problems with mine. I can see an issue with the USB-C being too thick to be fully inserted. I just used the one that came with it, and it is a little more narrow, so it fits in that port very nicely. Please let me know if they replace your unit, and if that resolves your issue!
@@51Drones I'll definitely let you know, tomorrow I'm going to fly it a bunch and see if it happens again making SURE the cable is in there firmly and I"m using the extension. As you found many usbc cables don't fit, right angle ones or bulky ended ones but I did find one made by Anker that seemed to fit even better than the extension. If I get another black out/turning off I'll send it back to Tripltek and get another, hopefully it'll solve the issue. The tech said there's a safety mech where it turns off if there's a short or something which may have caused it. I'm amazed taht nobody else makes a truly ideal large screen solution for the 64 bit fly application, I almost bought an ipad but then wanted something brighter.
Hey Russ, thanks for the video! I know the TRIPLTEK is one of the best for drone pilots but I'm looking for something more in the 10in area. I have the ipad air 2 currently but it's getting out dated. Any suggestions? Thanks!!

Not sure that this is available here in the UK, couldn’t find it on eBay, maybe Amazon will sell it. Thanks for the review Russ but I got an iPad 5 Mini Refirb a couple of months ago for less than 1/2 the price of this tablet. My screen is also 8". Looks very sturdy though. Much sturdier than the iPad.
So, is it compatible with the current DJI Fly app (currently 1.2.2) or just the Go4 app? In other words, is it compatible with the DJI Mini 2 and DJI Mavic Air 2? I only saw you using the Go 4 app in the video.
Happy Holidays Russ, great video as always and I'm new to the drone world and so I was wondering if this would work with the Mavic Mini or is there a better remote control with a screen I could buy to use with my mini?
Is the active display area 7” or is that something else? They’re not clear about it on their website. Are you using the standard model or the Pro version that has more RAM but oddly a slower processor with less cores?
Russ guess you mean Less Expensive and not Cheaper :-) Like the review and enjoy you channel very much. and yes you have given my the inspiration to start my own channel. Thanks keep all your tips knowable coming. thumbs up and keep them coming. Pilotshark
what I dont understand is why the crystal sky uses a glossy screen among others. kindle got smart with many of their readers that let you read them in sunlight using a matte finish. The glossy screens get smudges and are hard to see.
Very cool. I was wondering if anyone would finally come up with some competition to the Crystal Sky ... iPads are just not well suited for the job because of the lack of brightness. I don’t even fly with my tablet anymore since my iPhone 12 is so dang bright. I’d rather see what is happening in the sun on a smaller screen than have a 10in screen to lug around that you can’t see anyway. Great vid, thank for sharing. Oh, on your 360 camera, what I’d really like to see is it on the Skydio 2 out by those tressels. That would be cool. If not the S2 then your Mavic will do. Especially with snow on the ground. I live in California and I miss the snow!

Any lag with the new 64bit needs of the Mavic Air 2S? I'm bummed my CS and iPad mini 4, no longer work with the latest DJI Mavic Air 2S.
No lags at all here
Badass intro Russ!!!
How does one install the flight app? Just download it from the Android store I guess. I guess can be used with all drones like phantom 4 pro for example. Thanks.
I guess the question will be, if this tablet will still be usable for dji app after remote ID id enforce?
Any input on their 8gb “pro” model?
Are you able to download all the drone related apps like airmap, kittyhawk, b4ufly, etc?
You would need the tripltek PRO 8GB version for these APPs to run
It should be good for 600 smackers !!! Must be nice. Cheers, Chuck (NE Florida) : + )
Hey Russ any Ideas on how to the controller from charging the Tripletek tablet Thanks for any info Vincent Louis
Take a loo at this guy video for a solution for that ruclips.net/video/mDID4SvpbLU/видео.html
I've really been looking to get a tablet to fly my Mini 1 and other drones I get in the future. This is an awesome bit of tech so this is going on my wishlist
Thanks for the Advise!
Happy Holidays Russ. Great video.
Any chance you might do a detailed review of your machine? Just bought a lake house in Michigan and was looking at the Honda Rubicon 520 until I saw your Northwoods edition and now considering the Northwoods Max edition for winter plowing in Michigan. Would love to hear more about your experience and what you use it for. Thanks.
I'm having trouble with recording on my zlrc sg 906 Pro 2 why the lag. I need your advice. Thanks if you can help
Not sure that this is available here in the UK, couldn’t find it on eBay, maybe Amazon will sell it. With our weather of late we don’t need bright screens, more useful would be waterproof as storm Bella hits us tonight! Didn’t have too much trouble with my iPad mini even in the scorching summer we had this year. Great video again Russ keep up the good work.
would you recommend getting the 107 certfication ?
Speechless, just enjoyed the tablet being run off and still no scratched 😅. Anyway I like every video works and the outro video💖. It would be my happiest day If i got one🎁
Hi Russ, I know this is an old video so maybe that is why, but when I order this I do not get a %5 discount - unless it will show up after I hit place the order? but at checkout it does not show it.
Can you confirm if it is still available? Thanks
Careful, you might hurt that can am 🤣.
Merry Christmas Russ!!!
I am new to your channel and honestly I like your contents, may I ask where did you get the mount to connect insta360 One X to Drone?
How does the DJI app work in terms of Android vs IOS? Great videos BTW. Subscribed.
Russ could you also do a test of the Acrotor mount with a Tripltek 7" tablet with a Mavic Pro orMavic Pro 2 controller? Thanks.
Hey Russ, do you think this would work with my Evo 1 and Evo2Pro? The crystal sky does
Dumb question from a newbie. In order to use the Tripltek with a DJI quad, is a SIMM (cellular capable) card required/necessary?
The SIM card is not necessary. You can pre-download maps, and also you can connect it to your Hotspot on your smartphone
Russ, you couldn't get more then a 5% discount. Come on help a guy out! Happy Holidays and Happy New year.
Tried. 😁
Next time I have about $600 that just can not find another use for I might look into it, if I remember. This really doesn't ever seem to be an issue for me, and I live in Texas
Does it have a screen recorder included ?
Can a DJI Smart Controller and tripltek work together?
Thanks for the video! Looks like a cool product!
Is it not better to run DJI products on the Apple iOS
Good review Russ
Great review. Ordered mine through your link...no discount at check out....no worries. Looking forward to a great monitor! Need a rugged one for field work and to fly..
(Update...I missed the check box for the discount on the product page. You must click it to get the discount at check-out)
Hey mate are they gonna send you the Pro Version to Review? Looks impressive.
What screen recording app do you use?
Thanks for the review Russ but I got an iPad 5 Mini Refirb a couple of months ago for less than 1/2 the price of this tablet. My screen is also 8". Looks very sturdy though. Much sturdier than the iPad.
Looks like a really good alternative to the Crystal Sky monitor which is way out of my reach.
So, is it compatible with the current DJI Fly app (currently 1.2.2) or just the Go4 app? In other words, is it compatible with the DJI Mini 2 and DJI Mavic Air 2? I only saw you using the Go 4 app in the video.
Sorry, I should have shown that. Yes it works
Does it support the third party apps such as Drone Deploy, Liche, Pix4D, etc?
The PRO 8GB version works with Drone Deploy and Pix4d
@@AerialImg thanks!
you forgot to mention that a crystalsky does not work wit a new dji fly app , this tablet does
Happy Holidays Russ, great video as always and I'm new to the drone world and so I was wondering if this would work with the Mavic Mini or is there a better remote control with a screen I could buy to use with my mini?
Is the active display area 7” or is that something else? They’re not clear about it on their website. Are you using the standard model or the Pro version that has more RAM but oddly a slower processor with less cores?
yes, the active area is 7"
Cool but I use the DJI smart controller and to me is the best at everything and is definitely plenty bright in direct sunlight.
...plus with the Dji Smart Controller you have a HDMI output, that for me is VERY MUCH appreciated!
Russ guess you mean Less Expensive and not Cheaper :-) Like the review and enjoy you channel very much. and yes you have given my the inspiration to start my own channel. Thanks keep all your tips knowable coming. thumbs up and keep them coming.
Pilotshark
Great video...after flying with this tablet, how is the 4k editing?
Very smooth
what I dont understand is why the crystal sky uses a glossy screen among others. kindle got smart with many of their readers that let you read them in sunlight using a matte finish.
Just send one my way I’ll put it through the paces for you lol 😆 nice video man
some ports does not work like the DC port or the infrared port. ( i think it is) i dont know, also some contra screws i do not know what the use is.
Good review! WRT OneX2, mount it on the Mini2.
Russ, do you need to buy the "4G LTE" tablet in order to use it to fly drones?
You do not need data to fly drones
@@AerialImg Thank you for your reply.
Russ, will the Tripltek work with the mini 2?
Yes, It works with the mini 2
Great video thanks for sharing Russ.
Good review, thanks! I have the pro version and recently noticed there may be an issue with the compass not being accurate or not functioning. Running google maps, if I point to north, the icon will point to south. If I rotate left, the icon rotates right. Running dji fly app 1.2.2 or higher, not getting exact tablet position. Tried to calibrate but no go. Anyone with the tablet experiencing similar issue?
It needs to be calibrated properly in a wide-open area. It is working fine for me
@@AerialImg I did many times in an open area. I also reset to factory and still not able to get the compass to work correctly. Used google maps calibration and also the calibration app by Tree Team which is recommended by Tripltek.
Hey Russ will it work with Evo 2, I have tried crystal sky with Evo 2 and couldn’t get it to work.
Thanks, Larry Cummings
Yes , It works, you can see a video on my channel
Great video as usual! This was on the older gen on Android 8, any chance of reviewing the “pro” model... Android 9, 8 core?
Captain drone did a review of the 8 GB yesterday
@@AerialImg Thanks, just viewed that one.
Great Video
