  • UPDATE: Horizon Zero Dawn loading times comaprison: • Horizon: ZD loading ti...
    Testing SSD loading times on PS4 Pro with firmware 4.50 final.
    Test environment:
    PS4 Pro with 4.50
    Samsung SSD 840 Pro 512GB as internal
    Samsung SSD 840 EVO 500 GB as external
    Toshiba 5400 rpm HDD 500GB as external
    StarTech USB 3.0 to 2.5" SATA III Hard Drive Adapter Cable w/ UASP
    The Division digital game
    Conclusion
    The difference between internal and external SSD loading times is marginal in The Division though this game needs and relies on constant internet connection. I think the optimal solution is have an SSD as internal and HDD as external storage. Best is two SSDs, beacuse why not?
    The Horizon Zero Dawn loading times comparison is in progress I cannot wait to see the difference between external and internal SSD when internet connection speed/acces to datacenters is not a factor. Stay tuned.

    FINAL RESULTS:
    Internal SSD:
    1. 122 seconds
    2. 105 seconds
    3. 101 seconds
    Average = 109 seconds
    External SSD:
    1. 111 seconds
    2. 108 seconds
    3. 114 seconds
    Average = 111 seconds
    External HDD:
    1. 140 seconds
    2. 141 seconds
    3. 146 seconds
    Average = 142 seconds
    Summary: Results are best from top top to bottom but the result times are still pretty close.
    I (the owner of this comment) have an internal SSD and enjoy the benefits but it was costly. If you don't want to spend a lot of money then go with an external HDD for extra space. You could also get a small internal SSD (125 GB or 250 GB) and then a big 1/2/4TB external HDD

      SSD is so cheap now - compared to 2y ago.

    I get people want comparisons with recorded timed footage but there's plenty of those videos online and this actually does something else those others don't.
    Most share only one test or a single number average. While you showed the full times on each load. This is important because something your results how unlike the others is that SSD load times get faster as it repeats the same game over and over.
    This is big for those of us who like to play certain games all the time or replay one frequently. It means long run in those situations a person is better using an internal SSD over the external ones so many other RUclipsrs recommend.

      Wow I didn't thanks for sharing that info, I'm one of those guys who will play only 1 or 2 games over and over, so having a ssd will really be a benefit.

      @@emjbostwick2068 I've been using an internal SSD in my PS4 Pro for almost a year now. And the load times are great for frequently used games. In Blacks Ops Cold War for example I usually load in first most games even on larger maps then the other players.
      Games with large open worlds like Genshin Impact that I play fairly regularly also have little to no load times. As the SSD is use to loading more of the game quicker. Especially in areas I frequently travel to for daily grinding.

    The internal SSD getting faster after three attempts makes sense because it learns what you want to continually open so it will open it faster like how the SSHD's 8GB cache learns what programs are frequently used so it opens them faster after multiple launch times.

    why would you choose a game that is impacted by network/ server speeds???? and how come your using 2 different class drives..

      @eeeasyontube  7 лет назад +1

      I have chosen multiple games if you read description you must know that Horizon Zero Dawn is next. And there will be more. I have those 2 drives mate ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ besides, they are not that different when you use it with PS4.

    I would have loved a side by side comparission rather... you know, the current format :P

      I made this video entirely on PS4 so that is the reason why no side by side comparison.

    Whats the dif between an ssd and a hdd? Is an ssd more expensive?

    • @eeeasyontube
      @eeeasyontube  7 лет назад +4

      Yes it is. SSD is solid state drive it is like memory chips while in HDD (hard disk drive) there is a spinning disk platter inside. SSD has no moving parts has a lot better access time than HDD and faster read write operations. More precise info on wikipedia or on tech sites.

    external ssd in game have best loading extures in game? for example rpg open world.. ac odyssey... or not?:)

    • @eeeasyontube
      @eeeasyontube  5 лет назад

      my experience say yes but it depends on how game or texture streaming is coded. it may not worth buying an ssd for better texture streaming only but there are other benefits as well

    great!! slightly disappointed to see external ssd does not show any significant improvements in loading times...

    • @eeeasyontube
      @eeeasyontube  7 лет назад

      thanks. I assume if you load game from external it has to wait for internal pushing data to the pipeline, eg. saves. so it may not be possible to be in use simoultaneously or external independently. I am preparing Horizon Zero Dawn loading times comparison we will see how it handles external SSD.
