I would agree Rodrick Rules is definitely at the top of my favorite wimpy kid books. I liked the older books when the side characters like Chirag, Fregley, Patty were featured in the story. I'm looking forward to the new book coming out soon cause we finally get another Rodrick centered book
Long Haul is a distinctive narrative of what it was to be in our epoch the wimp generation. On the other hand it was written in three weeks while Jeff Kinney was in a daze on prescription pain meds after a skiing injury it leaves lacking examples of prose and is directly hated by so many critics.
i disagree, old school imo is the last like really good book after a spur of really mediocre weirdo books, but then everything after is shit again except the meltdown which is alright.

Literally Double Down was the first one I read because it was the first thing I saw in my school library and it was my favorite until Dog Days became my new favorite and I started reading the series when I was 10
Double Down is my favorite. I did not just start reading the series, And I have read every book, all 3 rowleys, the movie diaries- diary, and have the do-it-yourself book. I know most people think it has too many things happening at once and it needs to stick with one plot, but I like all the different unique things that Jeff Kinney puts in this book, and the movie thing with the worms at the end. It’s also very underrated. Diary of a Wimpy Kid Third Wheel was actually my first book. That was 7 years ago.
