@@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews I have the arm and the new blade ready to go. The puller and glue should be here tomorrow. I was ready to get it all taken care of today, but couldn't get the arm off the post - whomp, whomp. The puller should solve that issue.
I followed these instructions to a tee and everything worked great! We even got a heavy rain over the weekend that let me test it - hahaha. THANK YOU!!
Thank you for pointing out the marking of the angle of the blade tip position. I fitted mine without marking the tip and the wiper ended up going beyond the screen.
Be very careful because the underside edge of the nut cover is very, very sharp and is held down with strong vertical spring tension!! Wear protective gloves when dealing with it! I'm lucky I didn't suffer a major cut on my finger or worse when I recently performed the above task and with me it occurred while struggling trying to remove the "stuck" wiper blade arm from the motor...before finding this video!!

WOW, If the thread locker ran down to the wiper arm.... You Will NEVER get it off again.... TIP::::: Put the nut on the stud First, Then put a tiny drop on the nut threads....... Please Think when using thread Locker!!!!
Ok so you put the new wiper arm on there and tightened it and it still falls down? The puller tool should help it to come off but it shouldn't have any use afterwards, nor an effect on how the nut tightens back on the arm. Did you inspect the vertical splines inside the bushing on the plastic arm and the same style splines on the motor post? If those are worn away then yes it will loosen and fall down again. The splines are like gear teeth which hold the position of the arm to the motor when the nut is tightened down. They're critical. If thats not the case, then your motor may be bad and the post not able to hold position. The motor shaft should have a lot of resistance to it. If the nut is tight and the splines are holding and its still falling down, its likely your motor.

Very good and informative video. In most case, the pulling tool is not needed. Take off the nut. Let the WD-40 soak for a few minutes. Then simply turn on wiper, the twisting force will force the wiper arm loosen.

Hey there and you are correct for just the wiper blade. This was for the actual arm for people who have the bushing fail and the arm not rotate as needed OR if it just hangs limply while the motor turns. You are correct in that the blade is simple to pop in and out. Thanks
I like your video. Very clear but my old arm is really stuck. I have the puller but that didn’t work Tomorrow. I will try to cut the metal hub with a dremel tool
Hey Tale- thanks for checking in on your rear wiper- did you finish the job? How did the dremel go? Eager to find out how it turned out. Thanks for taking the time to share and for subscribing to the channel!
Appreciate the video! A quick question. My rear wiper arm looks similar to yours, but unfortunately my old arm has a hose for the wiper fluid and its being held together by a few clips that are not built onto the new arm.. Any tips, tricks or suggetions on what i could do about it?
Hmm that is interesting- you MIGHT be able to take the arm off and hide the hose inside the arched structure of the arm. You could also look at lawn sprinkler /garden irrigation nozzles from the hardware store to mount to the end of the hose and act as the sprayer to fan out the fluid before wiping. I'm not sure how much room would be left for your hose but I would think you could use a Dremel to maybe cut out a path for the hose then epoxy or zip tie it in place somehow...this would all be with the arm off the vehicle of course. Then maybe get an in-line connector to rejoin it to your vehicle's fluid line when you go to install it so it is a modular setup?
Yuck ... mine has the 22 mm nut seized on and the remaining insert seized as well. The blade just would not come off until finally the arm broke like candy.
Oh wow- yeah it's surprising how tight these things can hold on- it's dicey because you don't want to put much strain on the window motor post, but sometimes you have to be a bit rough :/ How did it turn out for you in the end? Did you get your new wiper and arm on there?
@@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews Success! I used a small hobby hacksaw to cut off the jammed aluminum insert from the motor post. I lined the tailgate with damp old towel to catch metal particles. A couple of cuts just down to the steel threads; then needle pliers to twist it off in pieces. Then I used a small-size hammer and chisel to remove the eroding fastener nut from the motor. I found the thinnest part and cracked the rusted fastener there, then tapped away lightly until the nut fell apart off the threads. PB Blaster helped. I cleaned off all the salt and corrosion. The washer is aluminum too. I greased up the nut, washer, and motor threads, then put on new nut and new plastic cap that snaps onto the hex nut points. The old plastic cap looks like it had been cut--as if someone forgot to re-install it after replacing a wiper arm and had to slice it open to get it back in place. That's why all the rust and salt and seized parts in there! A 22mm wrench fit perfectly to tighten the nut, although I misaligned the lift handle by a degree or two. Shrug! So, it took 2.5 hours to do a job that two garages refused to do for me. Works fine now!
Hi CVArts- are you saying that if you remove the wiper, you'll still have the hole in the glass where the motor post came through? If so, COBB Tuning makes a wiper delete kit where you can cap it off and it seals it up well (I've heard). Haven't tried it myself but it does exist.
Will this wiper arm fit on a cord focus. Most focus and escape parts are interchangeable so I wanna know if I should go to your Amazon list and buy it for my 2012 focus hatchback
My Lincoln MKT rear wiper arm with wiper and passenger side view mirror was vandalized on December 4, 2021 in Brooklyn, New York and broken during the night when my car was parked at Kings Highway & 22 St. A number of other cars were also vandalized and broken. This video helped me perfectly in details how to mount the wiper arm. Thank you so much, sir. Appreciated. God bless you and your family.😍😍👍👍🌹🌹
Hi and thank you for sharing and for your feedback- That is awful that happened to your vehicle but I'm glad you were able to get it repaired and on your own to save some cash! I hope you don't have any more events like that and Happy Holidays!
Thanks, got the same problem on my Escape. The motor is turning but the wiper just hangs there so It's worn out inside. Now I know how to get it off. Merci!
I had got that tool but mine was so stuck the tool bent. Advanced auto parts had another one for wiper blades. But it had a hand crank knob. I got a 8mm 1.25 bolt and put that in the tool and used my socket wrench to turn it much easier heh. It came right off.
@@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews unfortunately, the aluminium had ceased so we sawed it off😂😂 luckily, the new wiper arm had brass instead of aluminium but we also put plenty of copper grease. This was really helpful by the way!
@@MAH-89 Hah! Good idea- yeah these things have such tiny splines, different materials in contact, and they have wiper fluid and the elements all over the place... it's no wonder they get so jammed with gunk and crud and sieze up.. glad you got yours fixed and how you're happy with it. Appreciate the feedback and checking in!
It sounds like your motor post got turned too far. Try taking the wiper arm off again. With the arm off and the post bare, press the button to operate the rear wiper and then let it stop in its intended home position. Then, reinstall your wiper arm and hold the arm when tightening the nut so that you don't turn the post again by accident. Basically a reset of the home position for the motor
My bottom part (nearest the rotation mechanism) hasn't come off. It's the other part I'm missing. The longer part that connects to the shorter bit. I hope I can just click the one to the other.
Helpful thank you, on mine the compression spring under the arm had rusted and snapped, when I removed the nut the arm Was stuck on probably from corrosion. Left on some wd40 for a bit to soak
Thank you - I originally found your video because somebody else posted it on their channel without attribution. Anyway, I lost the arm and spring in a conveyor belt car wash today, but they retrieved it for me. I was able to reattach the spring on both ends without removing the assembly by freezing the video at 4:03 and noting how the spring hooked the two other two pieces of the assembly. Edit: I have a 2019 Explorer. The manager thought I would have to get the Ford dealer to reinstall it.
good question- I think yes on where the straight splines go into the brass nut of the wiper arm so that it doesn't get stuck again in the future, but no, you do not want to put it on the threads of the actual nut otherwise you could risk it loosening and coming off over time with vibration. You want that nut on there snug or else the wiper arm will lift off the motor post and hang loosely downward or strip out the splines.
Thanks... My wiper was good but I was putting a vinyl flag decal on the back window and needed to get the arm off in order to properly position the decal.
Hey, thanks Eddie! No, it's not necessary- I just felt good about using it since I had sprayed a lot of penetrating oil on mine and didn't want the nut to loosen up with the residue I couldn't clean off 100%.
Oh no! Did you find a puller tool? That was the muscle that did it for most who have had a hard time with the initial penetrating oil on the bushing and the motor shaft.
A mechanic just tried to charge me $200 for the arm and to put it on my truck. He said that was a deal. I told him "No, that's not a deal. That's extremely overpriced just to change a rear window wiper arm. I told him I can get the arm off Amazon and all the other stuff I need for less than $50 and put it on myself watching a RUclips video and I did just that. Yes, I'm a female and that mechanic tried to bamboozle me but I'm gonna always check around anyways when that price isn't sounding right. Thanks for the video. It helped me a lot!!! 👍😁
Thanks! The nut was easy to remove but I was having trouble removing the assembly from the shaft. I came to this video to see if it's safe to use a tool like you used. Thanks 🍻
Good info. However, my 2013 Escape SE rear wiper blade had a snap slot with about a 1/4" slide in the slot. So the blade would snap on then slide about a 1/4" to set the pin (slide the blade towards the arm spindle to set). I didn't know this. Needless to say, using a screwdriver to pop off the blade also broke the pin on the arm. Had to order a new wiper arm and of course could not get it off the spindle. Using a puller actually pulled the plastic off of the bushing so had to cut the bushing to remove it from the spindle.
have you tried using a small bracket between the tools screw and the screw holding the wiper arm? it makes it much easier since the tool screw just wants to get off the screw holding the wiper
Hey there @John_Gorla- yeah that is tough, but it's better to wait for the right tool than try and force something- hope you either got it off by now or that the tool is on the way! Give a shout if you run into something else and hopefully we can help! have a great day!

Ugh totally understandable... my sister in law is having a similar issue with their 2013 SEL. is yours consistently failing to push cold air or every now and then?
Thanks for the video....I ended up going to O'REILLY'S and they had the gear puller....just about the same cost.... maybe a few cents cheaper. It was easy, I changed my wiper blade with ease
How do I get the back windshield wiper plastic piece off that holds the blades so I can pull out the motor to see if the motor is bad cuz I know it's getting power and its trying to move because I hear it click and trying to go back into the resting position
Hi Nick, if you follow this video, you'll see the procedure to pull the arm. The motor is on the inside of the door / hatch and you pull the inside trim to access it. Please see our backup camera video for info on pulling the trim if you need a step by step.
I have the puller but that didn’t work
Tomorrow.
Works fine now!
i want to remove the rear wiper arm for aesthetic reasons, but the screw hole is a problem.
Hi CVArts- are you saying that if you remove the wiper, you'll still have the hole in the glass where the motor post came through? If so, COBB Tuning makes a wiper delete kit where you can cap it off and it seals it up well (I've heard). Haven't tried it myself but it does exist.
very well done. *insert clap emoji
Will this wiper arm fit on a cord focus. Most focus and escape parts are interchangeable so I wanna know if I should go to your Amazon list and buy it for my 2012 focus hatchback
What if we don’t have the nut it’s nothing there but a hole how can I replace it
Hi! Are you talking the nut to Honda the arm to the motor post or the bushing inside the molded plastic arm?
@@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews Happy holidays to you as well, sir.
Super-clear and helpfu - nice vid!
Hey thanks a lot for the feedback and for taking the time to comment! I appreciate it!
I've just purchased a Nissan Micra MKIII rear wiper arm. I really hope this video helps me out 😃
Nice! How did it turn out? Did it work?
@@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews anytime bud!😃 thanks once again
How do you make it aligned. It keeps going more down.
Helpful thank you, on mine the compression spring under the arm had rusted and snapped, when I removed the nut the arm
Was stuck on probably from corrosion. Left on some wd40 for a bit to soak
The sad part is that anyone can come take these off... I've had mine stolen. Looking up how to replace. Thanks for the video!
Would it be fine to apply copper antiseize instead of threadlock where the bolt tightens?
good question- I think yes on where the straight splines go into the brass nut of the wiper arm so that it doesn't get stuck again in the future, but no, you do not want to put it on the threads of the actual nut otherwise you could risk it loosening and coming off over time with vibration. You want that nut on there snug or else the wiper arm will lift off the motor post and hang loosely downward or strip out the splines.
Very Good thank you 👍
Thank you for the feedback and encouragement, Kathy! Glad it was helpful!
Great video and good attention to detail. I can now go ahead an order a spare online and thus save a trip to service center. Thanks a lot 👍
2 more tools you will probably need if you live North of Tennessee is 1. Channel Locks 2. Lots of patience.
Thanks man!
Just bought a car and it has a broken rear wiper. So thanks to you now I know how to fix it.
Awesome! Glad this video was helpful- did you end up getting it fixed??? Thanks for the comment!
@@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews it works like a charm. Thanks!
Thanks... My wiper was good but I was putting a vinyl flag decal on the back window and needed to get the arm off in order to properly position the decal.
Awesome- hope the decal turned out great and glad this was helpful for the process! have a good one Jim!
car is a P.O.S lmao, i hate working on these
They....are not.. always easy. You're right about that.
why does it need to be glued down?
Sadly this did not work for us. The part where the arm joins into the screw won't release
Great vid. Informative and quick. Is the thread lock necessary when installing the new arm?
Hey, thanks Eddie! No, it's not necessary- I just felt good about using it since I had sprayed a lot of penetrating oil on mine and didn't want the nut to loosen up with the residue I couldn't clean off 100%.
I did everything you said to do I can't get it off starting to piss me off lol
Oh no! Did you find a puller tool? That was the muscle that did it for most who have had a hard time with the initial penetrating oil on the bushing and the motor shaft.
Thanks
Thank you so much for your help, really worth it. God Bless you.
Great video! I used the PB blaster and the back of a hammer to pry up the wiper arm. Worked well without breaking
Thanks - your advice worked a treat.
Great to hear!
Easy, clear, concise instructions to follow. If only everyone could post like this! Well done and thank you 👍
what size puller you used?
I have also used a heat gun on stubborn ones. Seems to work if the puller isn’t quite enough
So, what if the nut under the wiper is seized on? The new wiper wont fit on with it there. It wont move to slide off.
Thanks for saying don't use regular pliers because that's what I was gonna use
Thanks so much for the video! My wiper arm was stuck on my '16 Explorer.
THAT'S AWESOME!!! Well done! Way to stick to your guns and get it taken care of. Thanks for sharing!
Autoboo has the best wipers
That’s exactly what happened to me! I blame Ford for this tomfoolery lol

The puller was the top tip for me!
It does make all the difference!
Do I need to remove my terminal from my battery. To do this?
have you tried using a small bracket between the tools screw and the screw holding the wiper arm? it makes it much easier since the tool screw just wants to get off the screw holding the wiper
That was the easiest part to replace on my vehicle. Thanks for the tutorial.
Awesome! Glad it was a quick one for you- just curious- what kind of vehicle? Thanks for the feedback :)
Need a puller for mine.
Hey there @John_Gorla- yeah that is tough, but it's better to wait for the right tool than try and force something- hope you either got it off by now or that the tool is on the way! Give a shout if you run into something else and hopefully we can help! have a great day!
It is the same process on all vehicles that have a rear wiper blade
Great video! Now that summer is here, I would love to see a video on troubleshooting ac problems. I have a '13 escape titanium and it's blowing hot air. Makes driving unbearable!
Ugh totally understandable... my sister in law is having a similar issue with their 2013 SEL. is yours consistently failing to push cold air or every now and then?
@@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews its starts off cool for a few minutes then is just hot/outside temperature. It's constant.
Alright well at least a constant issue can be diagnosed instead of chasing random occurrences! I'll post something shortly! Thanks for the request:)

Might have to get a puller. My thing was stuck just like that
Thank you for this info
No problem David- thanks for taking the time to comment!
Thanks for the video....I ended up going to O'REILLY'S and they had the gear puller....just about the same cost.... maybe a few cents cheaper. It was easy, I changed my wiper blade with ease
That rocks!!!
Nice work! Glad it was nice and easy for you, man!
Your theory sounds correct on it possibly being bad if you're hearing noises but not seeing the correct motion :/ Good luck!
@@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews thanks I figured it out myself but I have a bolt that was tightened too hard and only way to get it off is to shatter my back windshield but thank you for getting back to me

Thank you so much for this video; instruction worked very well on my Jeep Cherokee 2016! It is the exact same process, and none of the video I had seen on mt truck was showing how to use correctly the puller tool. And the Locktite suggestion is genius. Great tutorial!
