I've tried many of these methods, some worked part of the time. This one has never failed me. Screw nut 3/4 of the way on wiper arm stud. Use a hammer bit on your air hammer. Gently and in a controlled manner use the air hammer on the top of the nut. Works every time
Nice video. My wiper arm broke leaving the ally insert stuck. I made a puller after watching yours. I used 50mm box 3mm wall. It bent it to buggery! Had to cut it off carefully with an angle grinder.
Mine's still in place a year later. The copper grease has prevented rust building up again. Surprising how many people have wanted to borrow the puller I made.
Perhaps this technique is not for everyone. It does require tools, some scrap materials and some mechanical knowledge. Easy as far as I'm concerned. I've been restoring motorcycles for years as a hobby so this really wasn't difficult.
Or you could just get a torch and heat it up for like four or five minutes and then pop it off with a pair of vise grips. Make sure you spin it clockwise though.
I really didn't want to use heat close to the glass. I wanted to apply a direct vertical force only. Vice grips would introduce a sideways force and possible slippage. I didn't want that on glass. For the sake of making a puller in half an hour gave me peace of mind.
Nice puller, mad props, but you made removing it a lot harder than it had to be. You could have used a channel lock, or a vise-grip to remove it in seconds
Neither worked as there was insufficient clearance to get a purchase. It really was so tight that a lot of force was put on the puller bolt until it gave with quite a bang. Had I made the second puller first (couldn't find the material) it would have been about half an hour in total. At least I have a puller now.
I brought a puller figuring it would work hahaha yeah still no rear wiper it's proper stuck only other option I'm thinking is Dremel cutting it lose enough then using the puller 😄

I didn't want to use anything percussive as the unit is directly mounted in the glass.

Nice work! I have only the bottom part stuck, but it helps a lot to see how it fits together before I break something. Its rusty like hell :-)

So, armed with an engineering degree (OK, 1st year apprenticeship experience) AND a workshop - You too can perform this 'simple' task!

What about heat ?
The arm is not corroded, there is a special tool for this job and it costs £6
Correct, no corrosion on the arm, just the plastic cover missing. My special tool cost nothing other than half an hour.
Lousy commercials
