Cool video when I was at Adams HQ Chris did a presentation he really works hard on this stuff and he cares Thank you both for taking time to make this video
How the hell has this only received 1,100 views?!?! This is the king of stuff the enthusiasts need to hear. Cut the sales crap, talk about the science of what makes your product/brand any good. Top job big fella. Videos Luke these are worth more to the industry than the view count may suggest 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Thanks! I wish it had more views too, because it was a great experience to make a video with Chris. He answered lots of great questions and is generally a terrific guy to talk to.
Awesome interview and vid! I was using soft99(original) based on your vid last year, then switched to the Adams Graphine Spray (after your other recent vid) and used a good applicator after prepping the paint with a good before buff/polish with Sonax compounds. I totally agree its been several weeks and I can tell a huge difference, less water spots the 99 and not much sticks to the paint now. I'm a big fan of both Adams and this channel! Keep up the good work!
Dimitri this was a really informative and insightful interview. I really enjoy listening to the scientific side of this industry. Chris is right that you do a great job in your product reviews and presentations in conveying the right information. I'll be watching 👍
Thanks Jeff, I'm really glad that you enjoy my content and kind comments like this are always an inspiration to make more. Chris was also very generous with his time to make this video happen!
Finally found the time to watch this. Very informative and enjoyable. Any chance you can do this again with viewers questions? I specifically want to know why very slick products don't stay slick for more than a few days, and will that ever be improved?
Great video! I will probably watch it again as I probably missed a few things. I love hearing about the chemistry of the products. Keep up the good work.
Dmitry, great job. Love these type of forums. Chris seems like a great guy. I've heard him speak a few times and am always impressed with him and how he applauds the entire industry's innovation.
Thanks and good seeing you again :). Chris was awesome to work with and he is just genuinely excited about the work and industry. That makes all the difference.
On leveling coatings: Adam's should really step away from the microseuede leveling towels. My first coating was Adam's Graphene in 60ml. The microsuede gets clogged really quick, I found out after the fact that I was applying way too much pressure. I left a bunch of high spots as a result of the clogging, overall it was a bit of a mess. One panel completely failed due to my poor application. Buffed it all off. I used TRC Edgeless pearl on my second coating and it made a world of difference.
They don't even sell the microsuede in the coating kits anymore. I was in the Adams shop one day and an employee was explaining to someone that they had problems with their microsuede and discontinued it. This was several months ago, so they may have an updated version. I agree with you, pearls from trc are fantastic for coatings.
@@Jeff_Seely its a very easy coating to use. If you are worried about high spots, get a bottle of the graphene spray coating too - it has the same solvents and active ingredients as the bottle coating, so you can knock down high spots if you catch them within a few hours.
@@scottmattern482 great tip. This would have helped a lot too. I don't mean to talk down about the graphene coating, it's a great coating. It was all user error.
Thanks for this. I was especially interested in the UV protection portion and I like the questions you posed. Unfortunately I don't think a direct answer was given as to how much a typical coating or wax prevents fading, in comparison with the clear coat. The takeaway seems to be that the job of a ceramic coating is to protect the clear coat which in turn protects the paint, which is common knowledge... Is there a technological difficulty or something due to the inorganic nature of ceramics?
Andrew, I really appreciate Chris having the conversation, but I think your takeaway is the same as mine. As for the difficulty, I mentioned this in another response to your earlier comment, but it's due to thickness of DIY products, they're incredibly thin. I think they'd have to have a product that lays on much thicker and that would present many challenges. If the product is soft and easily removable it will be hard to make it look good over time if the layer is thick and readily discernable with the naked eye. Washes and various abrasion would start to etch it up, imagine what failing clear coat looks like. If it was hard like actual clear coat it would be very challenging for end users to apply it. Think of the runs and streaks, ultimately it would be like applying a second clear coat, not something that's user friendly or logical.
Your videos are pricesless, man. You have a lot of information and seem to have an engineering background. I love your explanations and the test you do so that we can understand why this products work. Thank you so much. 🙏 Greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽
Brilliant interview! Thanks for sharing such an excellent content! The Adam's guy is a true gentleman and very good at explaining things. I watched the whole video but didn't find any discussion on layering different LSPs, did I miss anything?
Thank you for the kind words! Chris was awesome to work with. We didn’t get into layering in this one. I wanted to be respectful to Chris’s time which he was very generous with. I also had to keep the video to a relatively reasonable length. I think there are so many interesting topics to discuss that we could make a series worth of content. Perhaps if we’re lucky Chris might join us again in the future :).
Dang. I know I’m late to the party with this post. But I would love to know more about chris’ thoughts on what coating/sprays he formulates that are his slickest. I’m really interested in understanding things like fluorine and contact angles. Loved the interview. Always take time out to listen to Chris’ thoughts as he’s an industry mover.
Chris and I definitely talked about doing another one of these some day, so I will keep this in mind :). Slickness is something I'm a big fan of and Chris similarly agreed that slickness is highly valuable for scratch resistance when washing. I have found the Adam's H2O Guard & Gloss is super slick, in my test it scored a 8.7 / 10. The Slick & Slide is really good for slickness too at 8.1. Most coatings aren't quite as slick with Adam's Graphene Ceramic Coating coming in at a 7.5 / 10. Fluorine polymers are interesting to me as well, you may have noted I asked Chris about them. He didn't seem too confident on their future, I think there are difficulties in making them easy to apply in a DIY setting personally.
Very good & informative interview by both parties. I was hoping you would of addressed the ‘static charge’ dust magnet tendency of the major chemical technologies. Maybe next time. Cheers!
Dmitry this was awesome man thanks for this answered many questions I often wondered! Glad to see you growing and improving on this channel your efforts are well noticed my man kudos!
Water spot remover is the best I've tried since we used hydrochloric acid and 0000 steel whool from p&s waaaay back in the day. Funny that the trick is just now making its way into vogue. For stained side windows I don't mess around, just break out the acids. On Adams: I was surprised that it has more oomph than Carpro Spotless. Note!! that the directions say to spray onto a towel and work in cross hatch. Dont let it sit. Wipe clean with a panel wipe. Sorry for the double post but this video is amazing. I'm a test engineer by day, Demetry totally scratched the itch of needing to know everything about a products development. 💕
Great interview. I wish you would have asked if many layers of something like graphine ceramic spray actually add up to more protection or there is a limit.
Wow...! Thanks Dmitry, got solid knowledge from your interview. I got curious about the super lasting product prototypes Chris mentioned that weren't too easy to apply. Personally, I wouldn't mind to spend double the time and effort on a coating that lasts double the time. I wonder, if Adams can send you some R&D products to test? Maybe they could open a professional line? So, application easiness is not a factor in longevity + durability?
Detail shops here’s a really good way to stretch your coatings. The ONLY thing different between the glass bottle and the plastic bottle is the solids amounts. IE pour a bottle of advanced glass bottle into your plastic spray bottle and you have about 20 cars of a 3-5 year coating. Just refrigerate it so it doesn’t start curing in the bottle
Isn't this the same guy from the B&B blending vid that Pan did? So does B&B own Adams or does Adams own B&B? Not trying to start any controversy just looking for some transparency. Awesome video nonetheless.
