Gerard Butler Breaks Down His Most Iconic Characters | GQ - Развлечения
I'm glad he went with his guts, "THIS IS SPARTA!" is an iconic line for sure.
An anime I watched made a reference to it once... that’s when you know “iconic” is an understatement 😂
Isnt it trippy to think something so iconic could have not been if he chose to act it out differently and it could have not been so iconic
Agree!!
Yeah. It is so overtop that it went beyond what we find ridiculous and gets into the unexpected zone.
@@varianbond what's the name of the anime ?
I still can't believe that the person who sang 'Music of the Night' so softly, is the same person who shouted 'This is Sparta!'

He made me fall in love with The Phantom of the Opera. His voice is so perfect to me in that role

@@joshuamacas3275 I disagree, the phantom is supposed to have an angelic voice but also a booming tenor.
I always really adored Gerard’s voice in Phantom. It’s the version I probably listen to the most because he has a nice, haunting/gravelly tone to his voice which works to give the character an edge. It maybe isn’t Broadway-style, but it adds something to the film’s performance.
I agree with you since phantom isn't supposed to be trained like others were of his time plus it says in the novel he is more advanced then the other singers of his time, his voice is beautiful
My friend and I used to argue about "Phantom" cause I loved Gerard's voice and she found it "wrong." He's not a trained operatic singer but his voice/style suits the role so well!
I feel ya. I actually prefer actors who will sing over singers who have to act in a film. Especially a film like this. They made the Phantom a self-taught genius, so he didn't have outside direction in is learning to sing (as a character). When you pick it up on your own, you'll have your own peculiarities. So it made sense to me, character wise that he wouldn't have that "perfect" operatic voice. He made up for it with his heightened emotions to stretch his ability. You can FEEL him. I like what he did, and considering how he acted, it makes sense. I thought he did great
@@tallyp.7643 Very well put! ☺️

I didn't know Gerard Butler was such a cool dude. Good actor too.
Lol I live in the area he grew up. He still comes back to visit relatives, and to go to the pub and order all the locals in pizza.

He made me sob in phantom of the opera. His rendition of the phantom was so heartbreaking and he gave me chills with his performance. Also his voice suited so well to the phantom.

I love how passionate he is about his roles because a lot of people play this fake humility like past roles are whatever and here he matches your energy on being excited about those movies
I remember first seeing him in Dracula 2000. Not a big speaking part, but his energy on the screen made me swoon in my seat. And then when he sang in Phantom... Yeah, he's an amazing actor and nothing will convince me otherwise.

Gerard speaks on all his roles with such fondness and pride, great to see an artist act that way with such joy.
I was just thinking the same thing! Not a complaint, just gratefulness!
He seems like such an excited kid.
I love it! It's fantastic isn't it? I love seeing actors who are so grateful and thankful to be in the position that they're in and that they realize how lucky they are to be able to make a good living out of pretending to be someone else.
And then there's Harrison Ford. Completely opposite haha
he seems more happy than a lot of actors. The guys is more humble and greatful than a lot of his American counterparts.
Law Abiding Citizen is one of the most underrated movies of all time. Such a great story and powerful film!
My favorite movie
It's because the ending is one of the worst of all time. Great movie, sad that the ending was originally much better too. Classic case of executives messing with the directors cut.
ITS NOT WHAT YOU KNOW, ITS WHAT YOU CAN PROVE IN COURT!!!
One of my favourites
it came as complete shocker to me and a mate who sat down to watch it, came out of nowhere with the hard hitting scenes, we were not expecting the torture either.
I learned so much about GB watching this, I had no idea he’d done phantom of the opera. That type of role takes serious confidence. What a likeable guy.
One of favorite movies. Just fell in love with him. Saw it at least four times. Now I won't miss seeing a movie that he is in.
What a genuine person Gerard Butler is. Truly a nice guy and gentleman who's not in the business for the Fame and Fortune but for his passion. I honestly believe he has a blast doing what he does.
Gerard Butler: "I can't sing. "

I’m really hoping they mention his role in reign of fire because that movie is epic. I loved his voice in Phantom of the Opera. I think a lot of people objected because they were so use to Michael Crawford's rendition, but I'd never seen the performance before the film, so I feel like I was coming in with unbiased eyes. He brought a very masculine feel to it. Can't really get on board with those who complain it doesn't fit with the novel because the musical doesn't fit with it at all either. It's ALW's vision, and he stated in an interview that he had always envisioned a more rock and roll sort of gruff vocal for that part.
I loved him as the Phantom! He made me love him and i felt so bad for him! My two sons watched this movie about 100 times and i have to say, i wished they would watch something else after that many times but there cannot be another Phantom than Gérard Butler!!

Tbh I bet it's such a sore subject that a sequel never got off the ground that he hates to talk about it
The way he describes playing Leonidas, channeling him through an intense meditation in time--without him, 300 wouldn't be such a beloved movie!
I remember seeing Gerry for the first time in Dracula 2000. Not much of a movie, but his great looks hooked me. Never saw much of him after that and then one day I saw him in something else. Can’t remember what it was and sad to say that I hadn’t bothered to find out his name in Dracula 2000. So, I’m watching this guy in Phantom…striking in appearance and who had this peculiar smile that kept haunting me. Who was this guy? I knew I had seen him before, but for the life of me, I couldn’t remember where.
For days, I kept running through my mind trying to place this guy. Even after learning his name, it still didn’t register with me, but even with his 1/2 of his face hidden behind a mask, there was that smile. Finally, it hit me. The Phantom guy is the Dracula guy.
The way Gerry’s eye teeth sit behind his upper lip are very distinct. To a dentist, they would be considered misaligned, but to me, they give him a uniqueness. Sorta like the gap in Elijah Wood’s teeth. I heard people say some really ugly things about Elijah’s and Gerry’s teeth, but guess what? It was men doing the complaining!
Having a perfect face isn’t necessarily what all find as beautiful. I happen to like that little quirky or non-standard look. Elijah Wood has the most gorgeous eyes. I loved him since I first saw him. It also doesn’t hurt that he and my son look so much alike, facially. Smiles such as Elijah and Gerry have are so endearing and both seem like very nice men, although I have heard that Gerry’s a womanizer.
Thank goodness for low budget films. So many great actors and actresses have been born there.
