Personally, I’m not a fan of wallpaper and like to emphasize architecture. However, after seeing what a beautiful choice you made in the grand salon, I know whatever you chose for the hallway it will be lovely.
Just a mention for safety, please wear masks when dealing any animal waste, and for the dust ladened jobs. I personally don't like the mask but have been taught how important they are. I am waiting with bated breath to see what you decide for the hall. I hope it is bright and light, with your excellent vision I am sure it will be amazing whatever you decide.
I’m not trying to be rude but every time you and every other person who feel the need to preach to ALL OF THE CHATEAU RESTORERS WHO ARE KNEE DEEP INTO RENOVATIONS.
This channel has been on for 3 years or so. All of the other chateau channels about the same amount of time.
😮EVERY SINGLE VIDEO POSTED about 1/4 of them are all about how the chateau owners are not using proper safety equipment. They can’t complain because they may lose viewers so they have to deal with people like you who thank they know how to do their jobs better then them. If you receive about 200 messages a day the demean you and treat you like your a complete idiot. I would just love 1 day where ever you and the rest of the safety gang wouldn’t send any messages that started with “ well you really should be putting safety gear on “ just one. Maybe we could start a hashtag #nosaftygearcomments we can dream right.
Thrilled the hallway will look fantastic once again. When I sold wall covering, fabric, and carpet, many times a larger scale pattern would make a long narrow space look more open than a small repeat to the pattern. Vines and trees are always an excellent choice. I love the original wall covering! Oh how I wish I could work like you two, but old age has caught up with me. I do admire and enjoy seeing you guys making good things happen. Thanks!!
Great tip Tura!
I love adding mirrors to catch the light
I agree, large scale would look great!
Hi Adrian an Carole! Since the hallway is so narrow and dark, what about a light colored paint that would transition to the colors in both the dining room and the salon? The narrowness and length of the hallway might seem very busy and in your face with wallpaper. A pale color with an even lighter trim could be an elegant solution to lighten the hallway.
Perhaps the hall don't need a patterned wallpaper? You could make it sort of a gallery, and keep it quite simple? I really like the arches, and then in one end, where that big lantern is, you could put either a big mirror, or a piece of art, which would make the arch look like a niche. In the other, you have the beautiful staircase, which looks nice in itself. A couple of big, antique chandeliers, and then, just dot the hallway with some beautiful paintings, maybe a big, french clock, and some stunning curtains!
I like this idea! 👍🏻
The brains just going into over drive. Loving everyone’s ideas!
On the video the drapes and the wallpaper look gorgeous together, can they be cleaned and possibly used in a room on another floor?
Just cracked up laughing at the bed setup in the stable sty whatever it is!!!! Fantastic!!!😂😂😂😂😂
It looks so much better with the paper off, all that battleship grey was quite depressing in such a big space.
@12:45. Carol, the plaster is bulging off because the wall is loosing it's structural integrity and needs to be reinforced.
It's also very possible the floor beams above that wall are just as compromised as what Adrien replaced in the adjoining room.
Don't plaster over it, strip it back to bare to inspect the structural members.
Can’t wait! The hallway looks like a scary task, but you are brave and I bet you will get it done in half a year!!! 😊
Let’s hope so! 😂
Xin chào ❤
@@fafafarmlife Hello!❤😊
🥰😘😍
I like the hallway better without the paper. Maybe just a cream paint or cream with a glaze or something like you used in the salon a tone on tone. The paper made it busy before. I like the Summer Palace but I think it will be overpowering and busy like the old stuff.
So satisfying watching you prepare the hallway for the next transformation! The barn clean up is wonderful too. Love the cobbles!
Wallpaper in the hallway shouldn't be 'busy'. You don't want to trap your guests' attention. Hallways are for flow.
My 2cents, whatever paper you pick for the hall should have some kind of visual link to the rooms off the hall. You want to create a visual consistency through the spaces rather than seeing each space on its own. Maybe it’s just picking a wallpaper that picks of some yellow from the parlor and that green from the dining room.
That’s true. I saw a home decorating video -a big modern house -where every room was entirely different than every other room. There was no continuity.
Love blue and light soft colors.
I'm still a little wide-eyed at the thickness of the layer in the barn, and a little sad to see the concrete, but Adrian's perspective that it's going to be a workshop puts it into perspective. Carole's stripping of the wallpaper was so quick and relatively painless, so it was nice to see the walls beneath. It really brightened the hallway. I hadn't thought the wallpaper that dark, but there's a visible difference in the overall atmosphere post-removal. Loved some of those wallpaper choices, especially the blue/light (white/gray?) botanical option. I'm so eager to see how it all comes together.
Carole, what a great idea giving your hubby a bedroom in the barn!!! It's much more spacious than a doghouse!! You're so good to him! 🤭😅
😂😂😂
I love the blue and white with the bird. Something to lighten up the hallway ❤
Wow, the cobbles look like they're in great condition and I can't believe how easy the paper came off & the condition of the walls in the hall.! It sounds like you 2 still need to have a semi slow week to rest up and feel better, still sounding a little stuffy, Feel better soon.
Thank you Suzanne!
This comment is for Carrole. I loved all of the wallpaper you are looking at. Please promise me that even if you don’t use the first one you well use it in a bedroom. It was so beautiful and soft. I could imagine it looking like a little country cottage feel. I loved the “oh my” paper with the beautiful blue birds. I also loved it when you changed the birds to pink. That one just looked like they were actually flying. The pink changed its feel. It helped make it not look like a blue blob like you said. The pink made it air and would be beautiful for any of the rooms with a pink as a feature allowing you with a unique twist using pink and blue to make a really fun feminine suit. I also love it in the hallway again because it’s airy. It won’t overwhelm the hallway with repetitive patterns bc the pink breaks it up.
I have learned that you always have a vision and your vision grows while your repairing the walls painting out trims and painting the ceiling. It’s like your cleansing the room and it just takes shape into a beautiful space. I can’t wait to see it all come together.
Another fab vid.... I actually laughed out loud when I saw the bed😂😂😂 you guys must be in agony at the end of the day...as always huge huggles from Scotland 🏴 🤗 Happy St George's Day x
Thank you 😊
I love the blue and white wallpaper it would brighten the hall and looking very warm and inviting 🥰🤗
I’m so excited to see what’s next in the hall. Love what you have done in the coach house.
Thank you Melissa!
It was fun watching you select the beautiful wall paper in your golden salon. I know you'll choose something wonderful for the entry hall. Thanks for letting me share your adventure. The stable cobbles are so cool.
I am not usually a wallpaper person, however the range of wallpapers that are available now are so beautiful, and they fit the Chateau perfectly.
Whatever wallpaper you pick it should have lots of bright color and not too busy. The hallway will be beautiful, I'm sure, when you are finished with it!! ❤
Looks great, someone also cemented over a portion of the stone floor in our gate house. The remaining floor looks great and looks fairly flat. The barn itself and the interior are really nice. Looks like cattle in one area and horses in the other. The water system is activated when the cows push their noses on the lever, while current ones work of a float and have a somewhat deeper bowl. Really enjoy watching your progress. You both are doing a wonderful job.
Thanks Thomas!
The hallway already looks brighter without the wall papaer
Cole and Sons Wallpaper has wonderful styles. The Florencecourt 100/1004 foliage is my favourite. Every time I see it, it takes my breath away. 🥰
That is gorgeous wallpaper!
Your choice of colors in the white and gold salon is simply ravishing. So well done. Watching the massive amount of work you both are doing makes me want to see every video you turn out and send moment by moment encouragement!
Thank you 😊
So glad you are doing the hallway now. I think it will do so much for your spirit and the spirit of the Chateau. Hallways are travelled so much just in a day. So to see fresh and beautiful walls, floors and décor as you are coming and going will be a tremendous up lift!
My dears THAT hallway could do with some brightening to make it light and airy.
I don't mind the birdies and butterflies and flowers to give it a happy garden feel
but a whiter background would make it all brighter.
Also not a overly busy pattern like Adrian said
However it is all down to the boss Lady Carole isn't it. Hahaaa xx
Oh yes. Boss gets final say 😂
Loving your start of the new project, it’s very exciting to watch your design take shape!
Wallpapers are pretty but you can over do them . I would wonder how it would look with a paper in the hallway when you open the doors to other rooms wallpapered in different patterns . The chateau hallway and stair well would look lovely painted in a beautiful light tone to brighten it all up. It’s just a thought of mine .🇦🇺🙋♀️
I like the second wallpaper you found. Blues and creams are good colors. Soothing to the eyes and not to stark. I'm excited to see what you do to the hallway after you stabilize the walls and the floor joists underneath the hall. The stable floors look so much better too. I could imagine the clop, clop of the horses on those cobbles as they were brought in. Loved the joke of makeshift bed for Adrian for when he's in the doghouse and you're annoyed with him. 🤣
I LOVE the bird wallpaper idea Carol. I think it will look beautiful in the hallway! ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
The “Summer Palace Duck Egg” by Laura Ashley is my favorite! I think it would be bright, and elegant with a touch of whimsy✨ The ones you viewed after that seemed a little monotone (blue). What ever you pick will be fab 😊. Can’t wait to see the beauty of that hallway come together. 💎
You two work so hard! I love your wall paper ideas Carole- any of those would look cheerful and lovely in your hall! Good luck picking just one!
You both possess so many talents... you make an amazing teem! I adore your joking around lol !
I think the blue and white would be a great choice. Perhaps a vertical stripe would allow you to hang pictures of interest and detail without being in a visual battle with one another. I have always found that prints limit what I can place in a room...
Oh my I think I am more excited for the hallway than I was for the grand salon. In my opinion ( which means nothing as I am not a designer ) I think wall paper with more white will brighten up the this dark space. I am sure you will come up with something beautiful. The stable is coming along well and it will be nice for Adrian to have a workshop and a little bedroom for himself. Every husband should have one lol
😀😀😀👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Carole, It is great seeing that paper come off so easily for you, what a relief, right? And I’m so excited to see the entry hall getting started. It’s going be that ‘first stunning impression’ upon walking in, and I know if it were me in your place, I’d be taking a huge sigh of relief to address this big but important area at last. Thank you ALL for showing us these processes in the way you do; an instructive narrative …just enough concise information to be able to use and learn these techniques, and then high speed video on the long and mundane process. It’s What makes your videos so interesting, and enjoyable to watch all the way through, (unlike most of the ‘reno’ videos on RUclips. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼💕
Thank you Gerri 😊
Whichever you choose will be beautiful and will brighten up that hallway! I could watch an hour of you guys!!!!
Thank you 😊
I am jealous of all this stuff that you dig out from the stables - this is gardener's gold - such an amazing material for composting!!!!
I just love the process by which you both operate. Each in your own ways, but very compatible. Thank you for sharing!
You two continue to crack on in great style! I love it when a plan comes together. Good work!
Manure has kept the cobblestones in good condition, although it is a pity that there is some concrete there. Brilliant bedroom Carole! but, by the way, I like the bed a lot! The work is burning in your hands, I'm afraid that you will finish this renovation quickly at such a pace. After the hardships of stucco in the living room, the wallpaper decided to make your work easier. The first wallpaper with a pink bird is the prettiest and most delicate despite the intense pink. It's great to see you always in a good mood despite your hard work🍀🌷🌼👋😀
I think maybe a bright duck egg paint for the hallway till the rest of the house is done, because one can damage walls as stuff are taken up and down. I would do the hallway LAST. But I do love the white and pink birds.
No more wallpaper. Take original paper in big gilded frames as an accent in some areas. Make the walls museum white or green… Wallpaper everywhere closes off the space again.
Carole, do you and Adrian sprout wings off camera so as to complete all of the your “to do” lists?! I cannot believe the amount of work the two of you accomplish any given day! Not to mention the drudgery of daily living like cooking, dishes, laundry and self care. Hell, I’d fall asleep with the tooth brush in my mouth! I so enjoy your videos. Much love and respect from America 🇺🇸 🏴🇫🇷
Yes. Its never a dull day here at Ferte! 😂
Looks like you’ve managed to save a fair bit of wall paper! Fascinating to see the original wall paper underneath and figuring out how it would have looked originally. Well done on finishing off the storage area in the barn. The bed was a good laugh! I love Adrians dad jokes! I hope Carole’s mother thinks they’re funny too 😂
I also like blue and white wallpaper but not fussy, also to warm , and freshen , your hall a suttle yellow and pale light green would look good. Love all the hard work your putting into restoring your home amazing. 😊
Maybe some white/light painted wainscoting paneling around the lower half of the hallway walls and paint/wallpaper above that?
I love the fact that the owner does a lot of the work and she is so lay back
Adrian and Carole, you did a smashing job in the coach house! I think that would be a great workshop for Adrian so Carole can have her kitchen. I did want to say that the blue and white wallpaper for the hall and entryway would be a beautiful choice and as always Carole you pick the most beautiful things.
Beautiful spaces. The hard work is allowing the property to bloom.
You two are the most industrious, hard working people. Have always loved the aesthetic of the château since I first saw it. So happy that you are restoring it. I would have loved to live there in its heyday. Thanks again for your posts.
Your very welcome Michael!
🤣🤣🤣🤣Too funny with that bed set-up, made be spit up my coffee. So cool that you got the lock working Adrian. I'm sure whatever paper you choose for the hallway will look beautiful and lighten it up as well Carole.
Your energy and your ideas for design deserve respect. If all the french people could got your cleaver mind and your work power, within 5 years France will be ready to bought Germany. Going back to the Hallway and to the stairway, i have only realized today that they got a lot of sun light. It is a great advantage. A lot of chateau don't get enough windows . You beautiful work will be in full sun light. Thank you for the video. Always a pleasure.
So nice to discover cobblestones underneath all of the hardened animal dung. 😅 Glad you cleaned it all up!
As for the hallway, scraping the plaster off the wall is going to be quite a job, but after it is finished with your chosen wallpaper it will look smashing! 💜
glad to see that you are trying to restore it to the original --bravo
Great job removing the wallpaper. This hall is going to be beautiful. Enjoyed. That was hysterical setting the bed up in the carriage house. Enjoyed. Blessings.
Maybe Power-wash that stable.
FYI. I’m not sure whether your interested or not but I was watching the RUclips channel “Home worthy” and they have an episode of the famous porcelain artist Marie Daag’s apartment in Paris! Oh my goodness, such a beautiful place. It’s quite a long episode but so inspirational! She also explains how she puts together the colour schemes of her porcelain collections and is really ingenious. She has Six children! Amazing woman and so practical in her thinking whilst creating beautiful spaces. ❤️
I love the arches! I am into blue anything! I like the plates in the rack. Good luck! Joyce
Love, love, love, that barn!! Hall way is exciting too. W. T. G. !👌🏻💞😊
Narrow corridor with not much light.... A dark or busy pattern Might overwhelm the space
Hello from Nashville, I am glad to see you making improvements to your hallway! Your home will one day be such a showplace! What fun this must be for you two! Have a super week!
Thanks Fred, you too!
You two are some of the most talented, knowledgeable and hard-working people I have seen. I wish I had a tenth of your knowledge. It is so awesome to see you take old things and restore them instead of buying new. Yes I know it takes a huge amount of effort that isn't always worth it, but at least it makes for amazing "satisfying" content. lol
For the hallway wallpaper, I liked the first one you showed with the birds Summer Palace (grey green?) because the spacing and print looked right and not too busy. The hallway would look dark but in a very cool moody way (I imagine it would look good with gold touches everywhere). If you want a more light and airy feel, maybe you could get it on a lighter background?
Thank you 😊
I think the walls in the stairwell would look good with just paint. One nice color all the way up, and then painting or pictures on the walls, to look at. And the multi level chandelier. The hall way would look nice either way, paint or wallpaper. I think it depends on how busy you want a small area to be. Or whether you will be hanging things on the walls. I can't wait to see the woodwork brought back to life! That original wallpaper is interesting. The original has color, the top wallpaper has no color. I guess it's the owners taste that plays here.
Hi Carole and Adrian, the hallway is going to be a fun project for us to watch, but for you it will be a job, Carole, I see the wheels turning in your mind, I can't wait to see what you pick and watch the transformation begin. The cobbles are beautiful, it is possible to break away the cement, without damaging the cobbles. Looking forward to the next video to see where you are. Love from N.Y.
My concern is that the concrete was put there for a reason.
As someone said in an earlier post, cobbles had been used in a horse barn and when it was divided for cows/cattle, that’s when it looked like the concrete had been poured over the cobbles. So maybe the concrete is there simply because it is better for cattle hooves!
Get the paper you desire and paint the birds yourself. Lot of work but the finished product will be what you really love!
My grandfather had a small dairy…back in the day. In the barn there were grooves so granddaddy could clean the milking area with the water hose, (and bleach). Re the barn mucking and concrete over the cobblestones, I notice a groove between the stalls and the main part, that is for directing water out of the building when your hosing down the excrement etc., if the cobblestones had sunk down and was creating a “pond” it would make sense to concrete it to correct the flow of water.
That blue and white flower pattern for wallpaper is really nice for your corridor. It is so light and refreshing! The other wallpapers with the birds have annoying repetitive birds sitting in one position, it makes eye tired…
Love the colorful Summer Palace, remember the dreary winters it could be a mood lifter 😊
Carole and Adrian- I LOVE your attention to detail!!!!!
I love Laura Ashley. Since the hallway already seems dark I would go with lighter colors. I did like the first one you showed. And do the wood a nice cream color.
I'd go with something similar to the older wallpaper honestly, or go back with the wallpaper accents.
Your video was lovely today. I agree with you. You haven't found the right wallpaper yet. The pipes giving water to the reservoirs was so clever for times past in the stable. The used door Adrian put up in the stable is great. I like the old lock. They concreted over the cobbles to raise the floor so the urine would run down to the crevice drain that would drain out the wall near the door.
Love the pink touches … I know u want to do blue an white but possibly a mix of green gold and pink to tie the rooms together … birds in the hall way or large framed panels of these w wide mounding might b pretty … just a thought!
Love what y’all have done!
Keep up keeping on!
Marie C from Texas
We will Marie 😀
When I worked in an auto shop some years ago, a tip I picked up for loosening seized/rusted metal bits is use automatic transmission fluid thinned with kerosene (or acetone) in a 50/50 mixture. ATF is loaded with detergents for conditioning parts, the mix works as well if not better than WD-40 and for a fraction of the cost per ounce.
Oh my Adrian, I can’t believe you had to use the Ecoflow to chisel at the muck. Yikes! The hallway is going to be lovely whatever you choose. Love the idea of blue and white/cream. Chinoiserie would be lovely to add as accents, with gold, of course! Have a great week you two!
Yes, even I was surprised how thick it was. See you Wednesday!
I love the duck egg blue. ❤❤
Adrian, be glad there was no livestock! I the love that you call Carol darling! I look forward to your videos. IF I ever get to visits you beautiful home. Please take me to those great antique shop you go to. Thanks so much for sharing.
Your very welcome!
I wish I had an ounce of your energy! The cobbles are amazing!
Love blue birds with the whie back ground, but you did like the horse lamp ,so you might have to think again ,But what ever you do ,it will be lovely .👍
I like the blue wallpaper idea - big improvement over the grey. What color are you thinking for the woodwork? Creamy white?
Unsure at the moment!
I can’t wait to see what you select :)
I agree that although the wallpaper in the hallway-stair area is old and lovely, it is just too busy.
If I were making a choice, I would clean and possibly replaster the walls and just paint them to create a serene and elegant entry. Perhaps add some mouldings at a certain height to hang pictures - a picture rail sort of moulding - maybe. But a painted, serene background would be the ideal backdrop for showcasing framed paintings/photos/tapestries, interesting objects hung on the wall. Much better than wallpaper, I think, although the choice is Carole's, obviously.
I think you need to look at all the beautiful simple blue patterned William Morris wallpaper prints !!! There are some that I think would be perfect for what you are looking for !!! I am so excited to see what you do !!! 💖💖💖
You both are ambitious! Love your videos! 😊
Yes, a person has to take a break from toil to do some fun stuff like looking at wallpaper ... so cool you’re getting those stalls mucked out - looking great in thar.
The bed was Funny 😂😂 Love the refurbished door 🤗👍
Great start on hallway 🤗👍 💐🍷🍾🍷☕🍰☕🍰🍫🍫
Love Sue❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
I've been told that old wallpaper might have been hung with simple flower paste but cellulose glue has been around for a long time as well.
If I remember my childhood farm holidays right these things aren't float valves, they're spring loaded valves that the cows press down on to get water. The valve is open as long as the cow pushes on that metal bit.
I love the bed she made for you, Adrian, it's so you can rest your weary head & body! Cute Carole! Like your thoughts on the blue would definitely go for more white in paper to brighten the hallway.
And so begins the new major project. I am interested in seeing which wallpaper you choose, Carole. I must admit, Adrian, you have lovely new sleeping quarters. It is a step up from straw on the floor. Too bad it wasn't all cobbles. I love how you upcycled the old door. It looks great. 👌 😊
Thanks Peter. Love upcycling when it’s possible!
Ahhhh. Enjoying with a G & T. Thank you!
That old toile paper is lovely!
Not sure what you're planning for the hallway but id suggest giving it a limewash or a soft paint, maybe a very light blue, gray or even green.
The barn clean up was so satisfying to watch, Adrian, your a powerhouse of energy! Patiently awaiting Carole's consideration of wallpapers. I liked the first one with the yellow accents to tie into the salon and brighten. Have you considered mirrors to bounce light around and add Carole's signature GOLD accents. Love everything you do!
Carole, I'd make a bleach/water solution and spray those walls as it looks like mold to me. Can't wait to see the wallpaper you choose! What a beautiful difference it will make in that hallway.
I like the idea of some kind of larger scale botanical, with a light background, not at all a fan of those blue patterns - too much blue! too cluttered looking for that hallway! Maybe something like that in a bedroom?! You two are amazingly talented and have a great "have a go at it" attitude!
Love the stables!! Once cleaned and painted will be a beautiful historic place in the chateau even if you don't have horses!!!!
