- I Raced my plane against the shadow of the 202f ECLIPSE to remain in TOTALITY for more than 30 minutes!

“My degree was in computer science so this is all legit science.” That’s the funniest thing you said in a very funny video -Brantley Coile, inventor of network address translation
To answer the question about what happens if you are on the moon: since the moon is made of swiss cheese, you have to have one of those situations from the swill cheese model where the holes in the swiss cheese line up, in that case, you can see the earth through the moon, but due to the three strikes policy, you shouldn't fly on the moon in this situation. It's really just that simple.
This is one of your best videos ever. I was in hysterics the whole time.
If your airplane goes Mach 2, yes.
It does in the shadow of the moon, because the air density get so high you can achieve mach 2+ groundspeed. I did the math.
Grumin could totally do it.
What about my Hang Glider?
Only a Comanche 400 could do that.
I couldn't love this video anymore! Pure genius and freaking hilarious.
This made me smile heaps. Thanks for the amazing work BrYon. Hope ya have a great time at Sun N Fun :)
It was good to meet you at SNF. I own a plane with a partner, and he introduced me to your videos at our lunch stop on the way to SNF. Then roughly 24 hours later I run into you at a food vendor. Crazy coincidence. So, now I’m a subscriber. The “other” Turner.
Comanche flies through the air faster than the shadow, because the shadow is on the ground. Just like birds to cows. Except the one time when a cow inTX jumped over the moon.
And then the cow burned up on reentry.
👍✅🤣Tks for untangling that complex subject BrYan!
That’s why I watch. Welcome back funny Bryan!
Great video Bryan. I thought I saw you screaming over during the eclipse. My wave is probably still trying to catch up to you. So glad the eclipse was done before Sun n Fun, otherwise they would have had to call it something else. 😂 Hope you are having a great time at Sun n Fun. Keep up the excellent work. Safe skies my friend 🇺🇸🛩️
I think the correct scientific word for the shape of these orbits is "oblongular".
But that's just a quibble. Those are the best scientific-explanation props I've ever seen. Kudos to Bryan's props department!
I lost it at oblongular!!! LOL!
@@JustPlaneSilly Me was technical writer. Me do words good.
Anyway, I owe you a few LOLs. "The suction goes all the way to the ground." I'm still laughing about that line. I plan to make it my final words if you don't mind. :)
very impressive glad the weather gave way for you.
Glad to hear you finally got that SR71 STC for the Comanche.
So the light side of the moon is the one time we can take our helmets off. The sun is shining perfectly enough to create an atmosphere for just that amount of time. Its actually really cool.
Fantastic video! You were able to explain astrology, aviation theory and astro-physics all in one short video. Now I understand it all. You, sir, are a genius! When does your video on differential calculus come out?
You did it bro!!! We are all Soooo proud of you hahahaha
Hilarious...
Were there any issues with the sonic booms you created along the way?
Pawscible pilet deevaluation, are ewe redeye two cawpie the number too cawl?
Yes, i learned most of this in my ground school for my pre pilots license ground school. I also learned that when the moon and sun hit each other in their crossover a civilization gets wiped out, last one was Pompeii. But luckeky the moon was built with titanium so its strong and can pass through the fire of the sun without melting. I learnt so much in my pilots school i never learnt before
If you had been looking down when you flew over Kaufman, you'd seen me giving you finger... but it was dark anyway😅😂
NASA put the WB-57 up to chase it from the Pacific towards Texas. Their ground speed was about 450 kts. They are back at Ellington :) Thanks for your spoof video!
Boom Boom!! 💥 💥
Lmao let's gooooo bbbbaaaabbbbbyyyyy!!!!!!!!!
Lmao that was just plane silly 🤣 😂 🤪 🙃
You forgot about all of the flatlanders. You crack me up!
Saw that one coming BrYan. lol Still was a great video! NASA had a couple of birds up there doing IR camera work at FL500 and they could only stay in the shadow a bit over 7 minutes doing 900 MPH.
LOVE THIS hahahahahaha
Thanks for the very clear explanation...And here I thought it was just the right confluence of all the con-trails I was seeing here in N. Ohio, criss-crossing at just the right point (known as a "Solar Plexus") which obscured "Our Mister Sun". And the two "planets" I saw during totality were likely just the landing lights of a Comanche and a Cirrus, trying to keep up w/ the shadow...BTW, do you occasionally drop in on the Livestream of "MST3K"?
I did not know they had a live stream. I would love to watch that
@@JustPlaneSilly It's been running more or less continuously since the holidays...The reason I asked is that there's another Bryan Turner on there (obviously an imposter w/ no knowledge of all the planes which appear in some of those movies..."The Skydivers" is a hoot!)
But what happens when you get to the edge of the earth?
BrYan, you are my favorite youtube astrophYsYcYst.
Nice explanation of the Geocentric solar system model, very easy to understand. If you were on the Moon side that faces Earth, you would see the shadow move across the Earth. The ISS has some videos similar to this. If you were I the Sun side, you would just be saying hi to the Sun like you normally do.
I’m pulling my kids from school and they’re gonna get a RUclipsScience education.
Thank you for being an outstanding Science Educator and Communicator, Bryan!
I think the issue was you need to use the left foot in your model. When you use the right foot you get the redundant solution you weren't looking for where the earth blocks the sun.
I think you could use the wood stove in the Comanche to generate steam to get enough thrust to keep up with the shadow. Maybe your computer could calculate the amount of wood and water required.
I was never interested in being a realtor, but I really want to get in on selling some of that ocean front property in Denton. I just need a license so I guess I'll start eating Cracker Jacks again until I find one.
Me, at 5:45: "If this is an elaborate prank, I'm gonna be real mad. Well played, but still, real mad."
Now that I understand how the eclipse works I’m going to apply at NASA, I feel I’m qualified now, can I use you as a reference, Brian
I thougth the Laws of Aerodynamics ceased during an eclipse. How did you maintain lift?
Did you log that as night flight time?
Why would I not think Bryan would come up with something for the eclipse..😂
You still could have extended the duration of the totality even if you couldn't outpace it.
There was a Concorde Eclipse Flight. The plane can be seen in Le Bourget Airport / Museum. Paris. France.
What if the Comanche is on a treadmill?
Comanches don't go to the gym
i kept waiting for where you explained how the earth is actually flat
Need the turbo Comanche 260 or the Comanche 400 in order to keep up
He should have Mike Patey do the pt6 mod
@@ronjonson26 his tend to blow up tho
It's science! 😜
It's scYence!
Sun orbits Earth, huh....
He said he studied computer science not earth science.
Looked for this comment before I commented. Lol
“If you listen to people who say things aren’t possible, you’re never gonna do anything.” Probably some of the most sound advice I would give younger me if time travel ever becomes a thing.
"Time travel isn't possible" is one of those false ideas that just needs to die. Time travel hapens all the time. Just usually forward.
Hey, in my book you proved it. You just flew through what I'm going to call a terrestrial eclipse, when half the earth blocks the sun for the other half.
Should've included at least a timestamp to skip the kindergarten class on the solar system. 😉
I can't believe you used an airplane to represent an airplane. That was so weird.
Hahahaha!!!!!!
Science!
Hilarious!
Now, can the Comanche fly to Iceland to watch the 2026 eclipse?
SNF tomorrow!💪🏻
I depart at 8:00 AM
Me too! I’ll depart this morning at 0800 as well! However It’ll only take me about 45mins to get up there. I repositioned to F45 ( North County West Palm Beach) to see friends yesterday so it’s a short run.
Camping for the week until Sunday in Vintage aircraft camping! I can’t wait. Hope to see you there!
I have a family member that’s been volunteering at SNF for 48 years!! One of the original pioneers. This is my 20th year flying int and attending. Always thrilled to be a part!! Safe journey to SNF 24.
The arrival procedure has changed from previous years. The FAA has produce a pretty informative video on the changes.
Whether it’s the green dot or the orange may you find that buttery spot on landing!!
If a pilot is able to keep pace with the eclipse can they log it as night flying? 😜😂
Mach 2 is your key number!
You covered science so well BrYan!
Is that the Cat Stevens song you’re playing? (MoonShadow)
😃
7:25 😂✈😕
I have to question your decision making abilities. Who orders a medium pizza?
Hahaha!!!!
Let me get this right. The pineapple slices on the pizza represent the lunar craters, yes?
Roasted corn for you and the fam on me if you stop by the corn hut Thursday 12-4 across from hangar A. I’m going to try to make it over to the gold seal booth tomorrow. If not I will be Friday.
*Yes* it would only be a matter of time until _somebody_ would try to fit an Olympus 593 engine on his Comanche aircraft in order to race the sun. Easy feat with those additionnal 157 kN of trust. However, engine noise and fuel burn might increase slightly. In order to increase Vmax, duct tape might be a trusted solution to help with sturdiness of some structures which might otherwise start dynamic aeroelastic phenomena such as flutter.
I would have been easier to follow if the Squirrel was the Sun...But otherwise a good explanation...
turns were the give away the shadow never turns
The Grumman could…
lol what did i just watch for 12 minutes? 🤣
I don't even know and I made it
um, there are ALOT of straight lines and squares in the background here. But the pavers headed to the new above ground garden are not in a straight line, and the new bed is not level with the fence OR the ground.... is it safe to assume that Erin is responsible for those 2 things? ;) I am still claiming FIRST!
1500 MPH? Science!
Thank you! I've always wondered how that worked. You are a wonderful teacher.
You mean Monday?
Also bad with days of the week. Lol
The eclipse is caused by the bird crapping on the foot
We were going to go to Armstrong's museum in Ohio (Totality). You can't beat the symbolism of that... But... we thought it would be cold, and we don't do cold. I got to see it in Tenn in 2017, so we're good. Bucket list checked. Hope everyone got to see it, it's pretty cool. However, knowing what it is, and how it works, kind of takes the magic out of it. People back in the stone age had it good... even if it did spur human/animal sacrifice and wars
Trust the science!
The Earth goes around the Sun.
wive's tale
It's amazing someone come up with was such a wack of explanation, but apparently believes that the Sun goes around the Earth and around the Moon! Wow! News to me!
so geometrically wrong to use the squirrel as the earth. should have used something flat.
Hahahah
I should have used the pizza box!!!
Now what is happening to the dark side of the moon during an eclipse? 😂😂😂😂
Wait, so it's NOT true that you did this on the Commanche? 🙃
Your degree must be in fuzzy math !!! I could be wrong but I don’t think that’s what ms Ellis taught us in 5th Grade 😂😂😂😂
The answer is yes. In 2018, 3 F-15E's from the 366th fighter wing in Idaho were able to chase the moons' shadow and stay in darkness for 3 minutes. The speed was 1700 mph.
Wait, did I accidently click on a a Neil DeGrasse Tyson video?
Hahaha!!!!
Oblong? - is that to make the flat-earthers feel comfortable - perhaps oval or elliptical - or possibly not?
😂😂😂
I thought everything was supposed to be bigger in Texas, yet you ordered a medium pizza... Although I guess if your model was to scale, your pizza would have been as big as the moon.
Just watched the first ten minutes of the video. A Comanche 400 might come close, but you’d have to start really high and end really low - and you’d have to Really Know How to Fly a Comanche 400, but 1,500kts is an overspeed condition and the teardown of a Lycolming eight cylinder with an STC’d prop might be financially ruinous - even for NASA. The only pilot I can think of who could pull that one off is Max Conrad (1903-1979).
If Max Conrad was still around, and if Bill Piper paid him $15,000 to prepare a really hot little ship like the Comanche 400 to make 1,500 knots from Mexico to Maine, he’d have done it. You know he would have, because if Bill Piper wanted a Comanche 400 on the surface of the moon itself Max Conrad would have delivered it.
There’s a great biography of Max Conrad written by Sally Toomanyvowels (Sally Buegeleisen) that everyone who loves airplanes needs to get through Abebooks or Thriftbooks or Amazon or whatever.
The sonofabitch flew the Atlantic in a Piper Pacer, and went on as Piper’s go-to ferry pilot from there.
haters will say it's fake
This was supposed to be done on April 1st........hello!
I REALLY wish the eclipse was on April 1. It would have been perfect.
I mean... it was the eclipse of the Earth.
Ok so you did the math….. but did you google it?😂
This is how things like Flat Earth Theories start. In a generation or 2 someone will start convincing people of this. 🙂
I think you were in the shadow of the earth.
You WERE in a kind of eclipse...
The sun is never closer to earth than the moon. Try again.
Thank you, sir, I finally got my mind around the eclipse thing!! At 73 years of age, you have made my life worthwhile.
With all due respect, you’re not accurate with regards to the orbital behaviors of the sun, moon and earth. The moon goes around the earth while the earth (with the moon), go around the sun. Except when there’s a black hole nearby. Then, the sun and black hole go around the earth while the moon orbits everything in the shape of a square. That’s why they say E equals MC squared.
Clearly fake as the moon's shadow travels around 1500 mph which is faster than the speed of sound. So that means you'd be persistently in the shadow's boom wake which, as we know, removes all lift. I was starting to believe you. What another disappointment. 😜
He has a three blade prop though. That's the key.
If it's on this channel it's just plane silly 😜 🙄 🤪 🙃 🤣
@@hawkdsl You're right. I hadn't taken than into account. 😆
This was BS click bait. Wtf
Duh, everyone can get this information from the Penn State, Brandon Division of Astronomical Affairs and Diversity website.
Do you think we’re stupid or something?
This guy is a joker as the sun does not rotate around the earth, its the other way around.
Faker!
