  • A couple of months ago I bought this Sennelier Aqua Mini Set to try out since I wanted to give Sennelier paints another try. There is 2 big flaws to this set so I bought it hoping I could modify it to make it more useful for my needs. In this video I am unboxing the set, moving the paint cakes out of the default tray and adding some other colors and then I swatch the finished set.
I hope you enjoy this video :) if you do please let me know by giving the video a thumbs up or leaving me a comment ^^ and don't forget to subscribe to my channel and click the bell icon if you want to be sure not to miss any of my videos ♥

I actually really love the set it comes with. I use warm red over coolodt of the time (just a preference) but i know i need a cool red occasionally.
I also couldnt love without quin gold and cobalt turquoise

Wow, thanks for this! I just got my first tin yesterday and already planning to deconstruct it as you’ve done here. Really appreciate all the great suggestions. I’m with you on the shocking price point. I bought the mini for that reason, to try before buying any more as their very expensive. Blessings to you!

I also got this set to test the brand out and wasn't happy with the color selection too. So I did the same, popped out the colors out of that cheap plastic and added a cooler red, and other colors I was missing! Far happier with this now and it's my trusted to go palette.

Sonja Q. I’m so glad to hear I’m not the only one! I kept seeing reviews with people just using it as is. I’m curious what colors you added ^^

Great video! Love your additions 🙂. Cake watercolor will often stay put in its pan if you pop the cake into the pan upside down.

@@Pearberrie I have found another option is to put a couple of drops of water in the bottom of the half pan and then put the paint block back in the half pan. The paint will create a little bit of a glue to keep the paint in the pan.

Thank you for this lovely video. It was great to see you figure out how to set up the palette and the swatching. Sennelier can be a bit sticky depending on your environment. I've found putting the tin on top of a radiator will help to dry them more. Sometimes I put a freshly poured palette in the sun, with the lid of the palette mostly closed, but not entirely. This protects the paint and also encourages them to dry over a couple of days. Sennelier are unique and very special as well.

I’m so glad you enjoyed the video thank you for such a lovely comment and wow that’s a great idea! I may try the sun idea and see if it could set the tube one I have! So far the premade pans are great love them!

If you put a drop of water in the half pan, under the dried paint, it will help the paint to stick to the half pan. Thanks for sharing this video. =)

Thanks for this video and suggestion. I got this set for Christmas and am thinking of doing the same as you. I found same issue as you though with the price of Sennelier half-pans. It would be cheaper for me to buy Schmincke or W&N half pans (I have sets by both of them, too) but I want to get something similar that behaves in the same way for ease of use i.e. has honey as a binder. What I will probably end up doing is buying a mix of half pans from Jacksons (here in the UK) and Roman Szmal as both contain honey and are cheaper than the Sennelier half pans. Have you been pleased with the choices you made for the 4 extra colours? I thought about adding a quinacridone gold or Naples Yellow instead of Indian Yellow and maybe a quinacridone red or cherry in place of the Carmine red (simply because they are colours I don't have anywhere else. Do you think they would be suitable replacements for mixing purposes? Thanks

you save my life with that paper. I had now idea how good that printer paper you found was. Do you have any ideas for something slightly thinner that can be used for bullet journals? I've only use the ham paper from your marker review for markers. I used it up without thinking about watercolors. made xmas cards. I want to make my own bullet journal but if I start doing that it's going to get expensive using paper pads from Canson. Any idea on watercolor paper?

3 years late but just in case, blu tack is very malleable, you can use, reuse, put on and put off

They are a bit sticky because they are made with honey!
