I love my Sennelier Aqua-Mini travel set. I painted a tree, using the set, and it came out really nicely. I sent off for charts and samples of all their products and can't wait to try them out. Thanks for your review.
Betty Schueler thanks for sharing! :)
Yes
Good
Ultamarine blue and raw umber will give you gray. Different values depending on how much you use. Just for that alone is a great color to have.
Hi Denise. Thank you for this video, it is highly efficient and appropriate. I love the way you had an organised way of sampalizing your paints. Great channel :)
Great review!!!👍🏼👍🏼 I could watch you paint all day!! 😍I love how you get that hard outside edge with just dabbing color in with your brush, but yet still have that soft flowy look that is watercolor. I've been playing around with watercolors for about 4 years basically just playing with using them in mixed media, but I just recently decided to really get to know and understand my watercolors(Learning their true nature is like going back to school, lots and lots of notes) Your channel has been absolutely amazing in helping me. So a big fat thank you for sharing your love and knowledge of this wonderful medium. Hope you're having a great day!!! Love and Hugs from NC!!! 💕😁
Thank you so much for the kind words Kimberly! I'm so glad my content has helped you to get to know watercolor better. Hugs from California!
Thanks for the excellent review. I just bought this small set, and I, too, was puzzled with the company's color choices. On another note, I would love to see a slower version of painting that leaf. A tutorial for us beginners perhaps?
Michelle Connell thank you :) I'll put it on the list!
Great overview and introduction to the set - thanks for sharing. I've been thinking of getting the travel set and I heard they were good for layering and glazing, now I see it! Also, I need that brush! :D
Sennelier look the best paint compared to the others to me.
Excellent review, as always :) And I loved the little demo leaf!
Milena Brandão thanks so much :)
Their bigger charts have color name, pigment info, opacity info, etc. I think they must've omitted the names from your chart because of the smaller size :) Interesting review, thank you for sharing! (Also, I was curious to compare with my swatches and IDK why but both my Burnt Umber and French Ultramarine turned out more vibrant... Maybe I put it on more thickly?)
Eve Bolt - Bolt's Vault I tried! I tried so hard to get more color out of that brown haha. When you add a second layer it's better but I could not get it any darker on the swatch card I'm one coat.
In Liquid Color this is pretty late, but there may be a problem with batch inconsistencies, which isnt good at all
So often have I thought about getting this little set. With the exception of one pan of neutral shade, I only know the Sennelier artist pans in tubes. I think this little set would be a really good way to test out their pan colors, and I think I will buy it for that reason, however I am seriously bothered by the two greens. Who needs those two greens? they could have just included the darkr green and instead added a cool red - the set would be perfect then. I guess I will get the set and a pan of Sennelier PV19 and then just try to pop out the lighter green.
I was looking at Sennelier Soft Pastels and almost bit the bullet, but decided on some used Rembrandts instead the cost was 1/3 and I got 45 more sticks too! I know many like this brand of watercolor and you did a great review too! I have also been able to resist the lure of the French! The Dutch however . . .
FYI check online retailers for old stock of the original formula of Sap Green (and Undersea Green is another lovely mix made with PB29). I just panicked and restocked my tubes of those colors on Jackson's in the UK as they still have the older versions according to their website. The paint will cost more than in the US but they do some pretty good free shipping deals and are a lovely company.
Marissa Swinghammer thanks for the tip!
Wow, loved watching the painting video! I like the idea you use for color swatches as well, it must be a great help in setting up different palettes, I'm going to make these myself. Thx for sharing!
Jo Anne Owens thanks for watching! I'm glad it's helpful.
oh wow thank you!
Your review was ON POINT! you are right on all accounts, and i agree i wasnt impressed by the browns at all. So i will replace them with the daniel smith browns.
I agree too that they dont lay down as well as other paints on one layer but as you add them they look really nice. I cant wait to get enough daniel smith paints to do some work with them.
how do you feel the layering compares to daniel smith layering.
I'm glad you liked it! I don't think I'm the best person to give my opinion on layering/glazing, as at most I do 2--3 layers usually. For my purposes, Daniel Smith works wonderfully, and doesn't lift while glazing for the most part, especially on higher quality paper. That said, you will always see a bigger difference in glazes with soft transparent paint like Sennelier and Schmincke because of the way the light reflects off of those transparant paints.
That was super helpful, thank you!
There is a light source coming from the left hand side shining on your table, that makes all the swatches on the left kind of appear lighter than they should in the video. Not sure, but it makes it hard to see whether or not the colors appear lighter from the glare. Otherwise, great source of pigment information in this video ☺️
This was from my baby-RUclips days. I had no idea how to film anything.
@@InLiquidColor oh I understand, maybe this one could be filmed again so we could see the difference in the colors a little better? Thank you so much for your reply ☺️
fantastic review
Great comparisons! Thank you🌸. I am currently using Schminke which I love but I might ask Sennelier for the sample to try it out myself. I subscribed😊👍🏻
Thanks Debbie, and welcome!
I wish we could trade one of the greens for a cool red
The Sennelier painted leaf was prettier than the other leaf you did.
New to watercolors and learning so much from your channel. This is an old video, but in case you see this comment I do have a question: How did you find out which pigments were in the Jane Davenport color (@10:30)? I found a mini-set of her paints at a clearance store and have been wishing for a way to identify the pigments in each half pan. Thanks for being such a great teacher!
I can't speak to the pan colors, but I received the sample pack last year and did not like them. After several months, they are sticky globs in my palette. I thought it was odd that they included the fugitive opera rose as well as a blue mixed with white! These were not colors I would use. I use and love Daniel Smith.
Sharon Nolfi good to know about the stickiness! And I definitely agree about the weird color selection.
Im really supprised the small set was so cheaply made with that horrid pressed plastic. its a real pitty as the set looked so nice from the outside
Indeed! It would have been so much nicer to have a hard plastic or pans.
Love the wet I wet, really well done.
David Amos thank you :)
I am getting this
the more i watch this the more i think about it, the more i think that they are trying to get rid of this cinerous blue. I wonder if it sells well because it is included in almost every set they have and i have not intentions of replacing it with the same. for all the reasons you listed. i feel like cerulean blue would have been a better color. and indeed thats what i will do with my set is get a good cerulean blue and use that in place of the all the cinerous blue they gave me in each of the three different sets i have.
ColoringKaria I think it may be their cheaper version of a cerulean like color. For instance Cotmans "cerulean" is Ultramarine and white, and for some reason Mission Gold calls their phthalo blue cerulean.
Aqua mini set is student quality as well I believe. They look beautiful to me. I just bought a set and can't wait to try them. Is the smith set student quality?
There la petit is the student grade. This one is artist and DS doesn't make a student one.
Did actually have this set and reviewed, and I actually didn't use the greens, would rather have both cool blue and red than the greens. And my burnt umber from the same set isn't as orange as your burnt umber of that set. But anyway great review.
Leodoz I agree that I'd rather have the extra primaries!
OMG I love banjos
Can someone tell me how to make pink out of this set?
Ujjaini Mukherjee I don't think you can. You need a cool red watered down.
In Liquid Color why don't they give a white pan, if i buy separately will it be anti-watercolor thing?
None of the set has white... I wonder why is it so?
Ujjaini Mukherjee a lot of sets contain white and actually is something that a lot of watercolorists hate about premade sets. It's pretty useless as it's transparent. If you want to use white, I'd recommend picking up a tube of white gouache as it's more opaque than watercolor.
In Liquid Color thanks sooo much, you are really helpful..
Hi Denise. I was wondering who you E-mailed about the free sampler pack? And what did you say to receive them? As these paints are super expensive to get a hold of here in Scotland so the free sampler would be amazing to test out the paints. Also keep up the AMAZING work on your channel!! :)
I think I just used the contact form on their website :)
And thanks so much! Glad it's enjoyable :)
In Liquid Color Ok. Ill have a look then. Thank you so much. :)
Are these chalky after dry?
No they're not. I have other Sennelier videos if you want to see more. I don't love the color selection of this palette.
Well.. Thanks!!!
is it artist grade?
Yep
👌👽👌
Hi , where did you get l'Aquarelle Sennelier (3 colors) from ? Thank you :) PS/ What did you think , about Holbein aquarelle ?
The three colors were samples that they sent when I asked for them by contacting customer service. I only have one tube of Holbein so I'm not sure.
