My favorite is "Another Lesson in Violence" 97 live album. It's "Bonded By Blood" on steroids with the tracks Baloff did for "Pleasures of the Flesh" and The Impaler. The audio quality is outstanding plus you get Baloff's banter between the songs.

As far as I'm concerned, "Bonded by Blood" will always be the album that defined them. One of the greatest debuts of all time, it defined a sound for the Bay area thrash scene. The only problem was, Paul Baloff was their Paul Di'anno. His path to self destruction was what stopped them from going from the Big Four to the Big Five.

I've only actually heard a couple of Exodus albums. I was late to the party, like what I've have heard and will no doubt be picking up more in the future. Great to hear your thoughts and recommendations!

Ahh yes, Paul Baloff, the singer of my "Thrash Never Dies" dream lineup mega-band
    Paul Baloff - vocals
    Nick Menza - drums
    Cliff Burton - bass
    Jeff Hanneman - rhythm guitar
    Chuck Schuldiner - lead guitar
    Just imagine...

Hey man, greatly enioy Exodus, I very consistent band in the Thrash category, and I think Gary is such an underrated songwriter, similar to Skolnick in that regard.
    My top #3 here:
    #1 - Tempo of the Damned (2004)
This one is by far my favorite Exodus record, I love the production during this time period of thrash (the 2000's revival if you will).
Scar Spangled Banner, Blacklist, Sealed with a Fist, the title track? Man the whole album is brutal, melodic and heavy at the same time somehow. Cannot help but sing along to Blacklist when it comes on.
It's up there with Testament's Formation of Damnation for me, which says a lot if you know how much I love that record.
    #2 - Fabulous Disaster:
A classic in the genre, I think Exodus was the best thrash band for chanting / sing-alongs, like listen to Fabulous Disaster and Toxic Waltz and try not to chant along. So good, Zetro really is like a thrash Bon Scott / Brian Johnson vocally speaking.
#3 - Blood In Blood Out
I love this one as of late, it really reminds me of Tempo of the Damned, a "sophomore album" for Tempo if that makes sense.
Black 13, Nothing, Collateral Damage, so many great tracks. It's mixed well as well, my only issue with this is that I feel it's a little long coming it at about an hour.
(Wanted to check this video out as I've got Exodus' concert in November, and am going through the albums again)
Cheers brother, gotta respect you having Pleasures of the Flesh so high! Many seem to dismiss it as a "sophomore slump" record for some reason!
Personally I'm not a big fan of Baloff's vocals to be honest, I'd take the Dukes albums over Bonded by Blood personally (sacrilegious I know)... but massive respect because he was Thrash personified.

Fabulous Disaster is the only one I have heard... and I had the cassette and played it so many times that the tape eventually snapped... So it ranks #1... and I wonder if I loved it so much... why did I not get more? Answer: I was stupid!

Looks like I'm gonna always be in that minority of people who love Force of Habit. I only disliked 2 songs off of it aka Bitch and Me Myself and I.
Architect of Pain. Good Day to Die. One Foot in the Grave. Force of Habit. Count Your Blessings. Thorn in my Side.
    I love them damn songs!

I really loved this albums' ranking, I feel bad "discovering" the video with some delay. Although I'm a 90's kid (10+ years younger than you) I would totally make the exact same ranking, I even agree in the Rob Dukes point of view. As far as "bonded by blood" it sure is one of my top 5 thrash albums (or maybe top 3), and inargurably one of the most crucial and top class for the whole genre! Keep up this good stuff brother! Cheers and wish you the best from Greece!

Thanks for the kind words 🤘 much appreciated ! I like doing ranking videos , it’s a great conversation starter ! Did you watch Murder In The Front Row ? Awesome Documentary on the San Francisco Bay thrash scene in the 80s , I’m sure you’ve heard about it , anyway it was nice to see Exodus get some love , definitely talked about how important of a album Bonded By Blood was & still is ! Cheers from Saskatchewan Canada 🤘 Stay Heavy , Stay Safe :))

@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 You too! Thank you for the responce and the positive vibe, true Metal lovers are like this!
I' ve heard about and searched it in full version in the past but didn't spot anything and I guess I got dissapointed at some time.
Fortuntely I've seen most stuff like "Get Thrashed" or biographical stuff like "Blood and Dirt" DVD from Vio-lence ect and it's always one of the best times when I find this material but sadly I still haven't seen this one!..The Bay Area thrash scane is one of the best things that happened to Metal imo!

Nice review. I would have "The Atrocity Exhibition-Exhibit A" much higher. What a monster of an album that is. I also think "Shovel Headed Kill Machine" is bad ass. I like Souza fine, but his vocals are a little cartoony. Minor complaint though. Solid discography.

My favorite is another lesson in violence. The album never gets old because of baloff's charisma what he says to the crowd is hilarious and the guitars are a bit down tuned so its a bit heavier.

Great video mate!! Yeah "zet" is the main man for me too! Was lucky enuff to see them in Liverpool not long ago, they were awesome, had the place bouncing!! Good friendly violent fun! FD is the 1st album I heard & loved by them, so for me I would have to slip that up the list to 1, but that's only coz it's the one that I'm the most familiar with. Since hearing BBB & POTF it's so hard to separate all 3!! All classics imo! Nice one dude, take care mate!! 🤘🏻

Cool list, Darcy. Glad you had "Bonded by Blood" as your #1 - it's by far their best album ("let there be blood" was kind of pointless, why re-record a classic?) Paul Baloff was a great frontman for Exodus and Thrash Metal in general (he and the band were in excellent form on The Ultimate Revenge video from '85), also love the live album "Another Lesson In Violence" too, cheers.

Dukes just didn't really stand out. He didn't have a "quality" that made him stick out from the crowd. He sounded like a lot of other "modern" singers from the time, whereas Zetro had a style all his own.
Tempo of the Damned is very good. A couple songs I really don't care for, but I LOVE "Blacklist". That one always gets me headbanging. "Impaller" is killer! I mean, I understand why they didn't record it back in the day since Hammett took the main riff and used it with Metallica.
Ultimatum NEARLY recorded "Thrash Under Pressure" on our Lex Metalis CD. Frankly we just ran out of time and didn't learn it. Shame as we spent time working on other songs that never got recorded.

  • @itsglen9646

I really like Impact is Imminent. Really liked the production.
Never loved Pleasures of the Flesh much. Idk why.
Zetro is the voice of Exodus, imo, like Joey is the voice of Anthrax. Not saying the other vocalists are no good, just that the band didn't enjoy success with them.
    Good job.

I would put Force of Habit (but I deleted the two covers as they are not needed and ruin the pacing of the album)above Shovel Headed Kill Machine, and I would put Blood In, Blood Out as their worst album. The song writing on Blood In just isn't that good compared to The Atrocity Exhibit albums and Tempo of the Damned. And it's the worst vocal performance by Zetro. It was the first time I found his vocals irritating. Zetro kept himself busy with his son's band Hatriot and he did a one off side project called Tenet, which is amazing and you should check it out. The songs on Shovel Headed are good but it sounds like Duke's hadn't found his confidence as the lead vocalist yet, something he shook off with the Atrocity albums. Bonded By Blood is my favorite followed by Tempo of the Damned and then Pleasures of the Flesh. Fabulous Disaster has great songs but the production was too thin for me. The production on Impact is Imminent was much better but the songs weren't as classic(although still good). I have always felt Exodus were too one dimensional of a thrash band to achieve anything beyond legendary status. Gary Holt has said that he hates Force of Habit. He said after Metallica's Black album hit it big the record labels started approaching the thrash bands on their labels asking them to give them a "Black album". Gary said he wrote Force of Habit to appease the record label, something he never did again.

I could do without the cover songs on Force , something the record company pushed for no doubt ! I am not the biggest Dukes fan , but he has some brights spots for sure , Exhibit A is my favourite from his time with Exodus , strong songs & killer riffs ! I have their first three coming on vinyl , I’m pretty pumped for that , I’ve always been a big Gary Holt fan ! I’m hoping they get a new album out in 2020 , I read that Gary said it going to be heavy as f#%k , so here’s hoping it with be better that Blood In Blood Out ! Take care Greg 🤘

I think the music on Let There Be Blood is awesome , but not a fan of the vocals ! I agree with you 100% ! Why cover a thrashterpiece like the original !? A couple positives would be the drumming , Tom is one hell of thrash drummer & another highlight was hearing the song Hell’s Breath , I wish they would re-record that for the new album , I don’t think Kirk Hammett would mind & he certainly wouldn’t need to paid , I’m sure he can super size his meal anytime he wants lol . Such a horrible fit for the band. He is one of my least favorite metal artists of all time.

From what little I've seen of him I'll give you a hand

Arrogant...cocky...thought he was the shit when he was asked to be in the band. Then they replaced him with Zetro again and his ego was busted!! Have you guys heard Souza's band Hatriot? Good stuff!

I never heard the Dukes years , I seen them on the Tempo tour but quite honestly they were terrible. Out of the ones I know I'd rank them:
    1.Fabulous
    2.Bonded
    3.Tempo
    4.Blood in
    5.Force
    6.Impact

@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 Same Dude can't wait ! I was watching the making of Blood in Blood out and Set and Holt were saying Zetro walked out during the Tempo tour because he couldn't hack it on tour anymore with really small children at home.
