Gary's riffs and Rick's solos are the best combination. Rick had the craziest solos, going from the classic blues scheme to his minor solutions that I could cut veins on. Few guitarists have the gift, knowledge, and power to describe their emotions with their playing. Rick was one of them...

Yeeeeeeessssss!!!! Got this cranked on 11 and the neighbor's cats just started a circle pit with some dogs...only the Exodus brand has this kind of power.
For those while listening to Impaler thinking "Wait a moment... This is a Metallica riff! Trapped Under Ice!" and don't know the story yet: Kirk Hammett of Metallica was in Exodus, one of the founding members of the band and played in it until 1983 when he left for Metallica. One of the songs was Impaler. He took the riff with him in Metallica. Impaler was put in this album in honour of the no longer among the living Paul Baloff.
Since you mentioned "Trapped Under Ice", one of the riffs from that song was stolen (with a small change) from a Swedish Heavy Metal band, Axewitch. I bought their debut album a couple of weeks ago, "Lord of the Flies", which came out in 83, one year before "Ride the Lightning", and there it was. Song in question: "Sinner." Can't miss it. I love Metallica, but dudes STOLE A LOT OF SHIT in the 80's and Black Album era lol.
@@HeathenDance I gave it a shot and wouldn't for the life of me say that the riff from Sinner was copied by Metallica. Those melodies are so simple they just come up when fooling around with a minor scale. I can tell you what Sinner copied - songs from The Number of The Beast by Iron Maiden, especially Hallowed be Thy Name. lol
@@de_oScar Do you know any other riffs that sound similar to those that I mentioned, of Trapped Under Ice and Sinner? Would appreciate some concrete examples. That being said, if you put those riffs side by side, compare note by note, plus the tempo, you will notice that, without a doubt, they are practically twins. This is just a pure fact, since music is science, and can even be transcribed to sheet music, as you know. I have reason and music theory supporting my statement. Regarding your opinion, I guess it all comes down to religious belief and faith lol. Lars Ulrich is from Denmark. Axe Witch are Swedish. Lars Ulrich, according to James Hetfield himself, was always a huge collector of Metal records, and had an immense ton load of them, since 1980 already. If you genuinely believe that the fact that the Axe Witch song came out ONE YEAR before Trapped Under Ice is simply a coincidence - along side with all the other "coincidences" that I mentioned... Then, I guess I can only say this: Send my regards to Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny.
@@HeathenDance Axewitch song sinner doesn't sound particularly unique or different to a lot of similar music of the time. You could just as easily say they 'stole' from Iron Maiden or Mercyful Fate for example because i hear riffs from those bands in there. It's all subjective and quite often what we have been listening to comes out in our guitar playing unintentionally without even realising we've heard similar elsewhere.
