Thank you for promoting this Cambodian style beef skewers. You know we Cambodians love Kreung! Whether it’s Khmer noodles Num Banchok, Cambodian sausage Tva Ko, Cha Kreung or Somlaw Machu, you know we love to add a little bit of our staple herbal Kreung. It’s one of the defining features of Khmer cuisine.
Omg this reminds me of my childhood with my mom also. Wish I paid more attention so I could cook more now that my mom has passed. I will definitely cook this as well as your other videos because it is everything my mom use to make... keep the videos comimg
I’m sorry to hear about your mom. I hope my recipes are simple enough to follow. Thank you for watching! Please lmk if you have any questions when making any dishes. I’ll be happy to help. 🤗
You are heaven sent thank you, I grew up on all these dishes you make on your channel and it’s been like a decade since I ate this so this week I’m going to make this.
Just discovered I had ancestry in Cambodia 🇰🇭❣️And unfortunately I’m out of reach but With food I find it being a clever way to get closer to the culture😁So thanks for this Tutorial🙏🏽❗️This will be the first dish I learn how to make wish me Well😉
2 stalks of lemongrass 10-15 small to medium sized kafir lime leave 2 two inch turmeric pieces 1/4 root of galangal (small piece 1-2 inches) 10 garlic cloves 2 teaspoon of salt
Damn, you was on masterchef? Khmer represent! My mah usually made that pan fried with the kreung slightly crispy hahaha and I also have fond memories of helping out and using the moral and pestle when my mah or auntie cooking something. Gotta cook that on coals for the authentic skewer Cambo experience
I want to surprise my boyfriend for his birthday by making these beef skewers. He’s also Cambodian and speaks of these all the time, especially when his mom comes to visit. Can you please share the exact measurements for the kreung? I’m also from Vegas, which Asian market did you get most of your ingredients?
I go to the market thats on spring mountain and decatur? the one next to crown and anchor. I would say 1/3 cup of kreung would be enough. Hope this helps :) Thank you for watching!
Kimmy Dien hi!! I would say 2 stalks of lemongrass, 1 head of garlic, 8-10 keffir lime leaves. You can use fresh or powder turmeric. If fresh I would put 1-2 knobs based on size. Galangal is optional in this recipe. If it’s easier my friend sells kreung by the bottle. You can check out her website voraciousmarket.com hopes this helps! 🤗
Thinking of meal prepping this. Any way you could show how to make the "kreung packed (blend of lemongrass, garlic, kefir lime leaves, and turmeric)" or at least the ratios of each ingredient?
@@jannielam5695 any update on the kreung video? I'd love to see it :) Wondering if I need to add water when putting the ingredients in the food processor?
Rose Jomp not yet love... during these times I haven’t been able to get a lot of ingredients. But I can tell you, you can use water but I prefer grape seed oil or avocado oil to blend the kreung because it will stick to the meat more and help the grilling process. I apologize for lagging on this video but I would like to film it right than film it at all. Hope this helps 🙏🏽
Thanks for demonstrating this video Jannie! You’re also gorgeous and nice. I’m very proud of you being on MasterChef (the US version). Also, how often do you get your manicures/pedicures?
You're an amazing cook. It's awesome to see others like you keeping our khmer roots going. I was wondering as for the chili paste does it make it taste spicy since I have kids that dont like heat.
Idk what’s confusing about having ingredients out as apart of staging and appearance. If I didn’t use them it’s simple, they just don’t belong in the recipe, unless you’re just paying attention to what’s there and not the actual recipe.
Is it me or @4:44 the sound of the meat imitating the sound of Mac and cheese and something else just overtook her? Lol it was clear as day, forget about the ziplock, the sound sent her into orbit. Haha I love it.
I'm gonna try this, I seen your episode and was like whaaat! Keep your head up CHEF! Now let's go try this kreung sauce and skewers CHEF RAY ALVAREZ!❤❤👨🏼🍳👨🏼🍳
good question! I've never substituted before but I would imagine mushroom sauce has a similar texture and possibly similar flavor. That would be my suggestion. Hope that helps! :)
Not sure how I missed a fellow Cambodian on Master Chef but congrats and thanks for properly representing our culture and food. Question - One of the comments on the show was that the flavor was sweet. Aside from the sugar, what contributes to the sweetness? Is it the chili paste? What would you recommend if I wanted slightly saltier without drowing it with table salt?
Super Ryan I make it in bulk, but for half a cup it should be about 2 stalks of lemongrass, 5-6 garlic cloves, 1-2 turmeric roots, and 6-10 kefir lime leaves depending on size. I hope that helps! Thank you for watching :)

You need to show us how to make the marinade or kreung because that element is essential to the dish.
I’m so proud of you for showing the Khmer culture on that show!!! You’re also gorgeous ❤️ thank you for this 🙏🏽
Of course!! Never forget your roots. It’s unfortunate I didn’t get to go far enough to really put Cambodian food on the map.
Thank You Dear for the Recipes....I am a fan of Khmer foods...

Good looking and know how to cook that's very hard fine nowadays
What is the brand of Chili paste? I don't recognize it. Thank you!
Hi Jannie can you provide a break down of how you make the kreung? How much lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, etc. Thank you!

Irwin Nardo of course! I’ll do a video for just kreung

Awesome. I get my pedicure done every 3-4 weeks. For my manicures, I don’t get them done that often. So now we’re even.
What’s the brand name of the chili paste you use?
Looks delicious 😋
Keep up the good job!! Noticed that this video has the most views, because we shared it on our Facebook page: CamFest on Facebook

You're an amazing cook. It's awesome to see others like you keeping our khmer roots going. I was wondering as for the chili paste does it make it taste spicy since I have kids that dont like heat.
It’s actually not spicy at all but sweet.

I literally watched that episode.. he doesn't know anything about jrour or bok la hong...
One of my fav!😋😚❤
why do i see lemons, limes, tomatoes, bell pepper on table if you not using em? kinda confusing

Thank you for sharing your recipe with us🙏🥰👍
Can I replace the oyster sauce? I am allergic to seafoods.
Im also allergic to shellfish but oyster sauce doesnt seem to affect me. A good replacement should be soy sauce i think
good question! I've never substituted

They have vegetarian oyster sauce available
