I’m glad that you enjoyed the Calumet 15 and thanks for the review. I’m also glad to be able to find this bottle without paying over retail.
I greatly appreciated your memorial day statements at the beginning.
Great comparison video, I can always count on learning something new when I watch one of your videos. Cheers
Jason, your reviews are spot on! No one else out there on the RUclips that I agree with more. Most of these unicorns are just not worth it, unless you can find at close to retail. I'm enjoying your Calumet 15 at $100 much more than spending close to $1000 secondary for Old Fitz. Great juice, but not for ridiculous $$$$. Keep the great reviews coming!
I knew exactly which was glass A was from your nosing notes. You nailed it. I really like the Calumet 15. As the Runaways sang ch ch ch ch cherry bomb!
Love the double bass episodes! Let’s see some old Carter’s go head to head!
Great review Jason. Because of the insanity of the secondary market, I will never see that Old Fitz 16, so I'm glad that Calumet is putting out affordable high age bourbon that is available. Cheers!
Love the notes. I cannot wait to try to get both of these
I do bourbon blinds all the time to test myself in my own opinion it will really humble you when you taste your favorite bourbon next to a few others you think would lose…..
Great vid Jason and even better intro. We should always always be there for those that came before and those that service now!
Saw a bottle of Calumet 14 at my local store a few weeks ago, but not the 15 yet. Great head to head review.
The Calumet 15 is a black cherry explosion with a light but distinct banana note all offset by oak and spice. Not sure how the oak could be more balanced in a Bourbon this well aged. The finish is long and makes a pour last. What also draws me back to this is the thick mouthfeel, which adds to the finish. Always skeptical of triple digit priced Bourbon, but this is a worthy buy.
Phenomenal job opening the video with some much warranted perspective. And bro - your camera game has never been stronger. This looks great!
Great bottle history & reviews; awesome video.
Wow thanks guys!!! Appreciate the kind words.
Would love to compare these myself but haven't been able to get a old Fitzgerald. I do have the Calumet 15 and have been enjoying it . Great work on the review as usual.
Just had the 15, really good stuff. hopefully can try the 16 one day.
Hi Jason, just picked up the Calumet 15 yr. Will be diving into this if not tonight definitely tomorrow !
Great comparison Jason. Cheers buddy.
Another great review my friend! I can grab the Calumet 15 for $102. Sounds like I need to get a bottle
I have the CF15. Great bottle. Haven't seen the OLD FITZ16. I do have OLD FITZ14 and its a Great bottle. Will have to keep my eyes out for 1.
When I hear Medicinal (Cherry) I immediately think Luden’s’ s cough drops.
Ludens is more of lifesaver cherry, medicinal to me is Robitussin.
Happy Memorial Day buddy! Excellent versus video. Thank you for having us all over the other day...your collection is incredible 🙂🥃
Thanks Keith! Welcome anytime!
just did the heaven hill "connoisseur's experience" tasting while in KY on Tuesday. McKenna 10, Old Fitz 16, Pikesville, and ECBP A121 (tasted in that order, by increasing proof). while the old fitz was quite good, the ecbp won quite handily for most people in the room. was really glad to try it ($20 for the tasting, great deal IMO), but not sure I would be happy to spend $200+ on one. the calumet seems like a pretty good value, just picked up a Sam Houston 15 but may cave and get the calumet as well.
Great intro today. Exceptionally appropriate!!!
I really dig the double bass episodes. Also a big fan of the whats on the shelf episodes too. I guess I just really like your content!!!!
Great comparison! Started drinking Calumet expressions this year and haven’t had a chance to try Old Fitz…there’s one for sale here on the island of Guam for $525.
I had Old Fitz BOB recently. I was very impressed, but I actually preferred a WT Masters Keep I was having at the same time.
To be honest, the difference between these or a Pappy and like a Russells Reserve Single Barrel, Rare Breed, Four Roses Small Batch Select, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof or Old Forrester 1910/1920 is really REALLY splitting hairs. Different flavors for sure, but overall quality and enjoyment are identical. I love wheaters and for me, these Makers Wood Finished series are incredible. For $65, available everywhere, forget it. Weller isnt worth my time.
Honestly, I enjoy Russells Reserve Single Barrel as much as any of these hard to find.
You should do a double bass of Chattanooga 111 vs. Early Times Bottled In Bond
You do an awesome job on reviews good sir!
Early times bottled in bond is the definition of medicinal cherry imo. I have the calumet 15 and I’m hoping when I open it, that it isn’t as medicinal! . 25$ vs. 120$. ?? We’ll see. Great review as always👍
Because I'm currently reading Pappyland I really would love to come across a bottle of old Fitzgerald try and get a taste of what Julian Van Winkle talks about in this book.
Anyone who hasn tried Calumet 15 would know from the beginning ! It really won.
I'd like to see a matchup with the Old Fitz and the Dickel 15 year single barrel. Interesting comparison of higher aged offerings there.
Maybe throw in Knob Creek 15 in there too!
'Glass A' is on the right in the video and on the left in the chart... this can be a bit confusing (just so you know FFR). Also, when you include the 'consistency' category you add an additional possible 5 points, so lesser whiskeys from other videos seem to rate higher than these ultra aged ones.
Amazing 😎😎
I lucked into getting two bottles of the 16 year BiB and two of the 8 year BiB Old Fitz bottles on July 4th at the distillery. Great review! Have you tried the 8 year yet? Kinda interested in seeing how that one fairs as well. Great review, I’ll have to pick up a Calumet 15, I’ve only cracked open a 14 year version of that.
Haven't had either, but cracked a bottle of the Calumet 14 last week. Very similar cherry forward feature, but what hit me was how dry it was. Mouth feel was more like a 20+ year old. Honestly, wasn't a huge fan.
Cherry, oak and vanilla...Cal15. Peanut, oak and caramel...Old Fitz :-)
Where do you shop to get those prices? I’m in AZ and have never seen them that low.
I picked up a calumet 14 and 15 in Niles, Michigan for 75 a piece. I got to know the owner and he gives me good deals. I’m picking up a Stagg Jr for 69…
Love your reviews. When u say “cherry”, I think of Stagg Jr’s. Would u agree and which is better in your opinion? Which is more cherry as I find Stagg jr sometimes too cherry?
I'd like to see Belle Meade reserve vs Russell's sb shelfie.
What available bourbons???? who would want that? lol I agree I've been eyeing the reserve for a while...
Just had them both the other night. Russell's is better I feel.
@@slickdaddy8408 Love me some Russel's single barrel.
the calumet 15 is 105 at the local total wine, haven't decided if I'm gonna get it or not yet.
Interesting. I tried a sample of Calumet 14 and made a scoresheet for it and found it too oaky and proofed down, felt like it lacked sweetness and body to balance out the age. But I also tried a Calumet 10 sample and found that delicious. I'm on vacation in Bardstown now and saw the Calumet 15 for $120, but I passed based on the 14.
The 15 is a different experience than the 14. Still oaky but more cherry
Jason, need to do a double base rematch of this with the calumet farms 16 year!
As soon as you said "B" had a peanut note, we all knew which one was which.
I thought so too until the finish. Thought the calumet would easily win
Wooo
Jason you threw that tasting to old fitz! Lol kidding to each their own…. I love old fitz, I have the 13 in my picture but man that calumet cherry bomb flavor is great. I have tasted the 14 and have the 15, dying to try it. Plus the fact like you said you can find that calumet and pay a good price. Can’t do that for the old fitz.
Exactly! The finish on that old fitz was so much more interesting than the Calumet. It was the game changer
Bardstown discovery makes the value on Calumet 15 no Bueno. I like it, but will never purchase another bottle at that price.
That's a fair point.
Calumet 12-15 are all amazing .
Glass A still has it. Finishes are great...but they're not the most important part for me.
Yeah I like a long finish. This was alot closer then I thought it would be.
@@TheMashandDrum then you would love Garrison Cowboy.
How would compare the Calumet 15 to the SH15?
Haven't had the SH 15 yet. Supposed to be getting one so I'm looking forward to it
My spot has both for $240. I think I’ll pick it up. Great review Jason. 👍🏼
Great reviews without all the silliness
I got the calumet farms 15 i need to crack got so many open..
Love the Calumet 15 and the price point and availability in my area. It's Dr. Pepper all day to me.
Dr. Pepper is a good call out too!
Totally agree - I would say cherry Dr Pepper
Happy Memorial Day bro
You too man
why is Calumet so available?
The hell? This is like a 1980's corolla vs a mclaren f1. They aren't close at all imo. Calumet is good stuff, very nice, but it's missing all the sweetness. It's a 5 vs a 9 on the sweet. Meanwhile the balance is still better on the fitz. That combo of peanut brittle and oak just works while the calumet is just...very nice, well done, but it's missing that older bourbon epic stuff. Just more oak than other bartons.
I wouldn't quite call the fitz a McLaren. Lol
@@TheMashandDrum well, i went with a dated older model, maybe the F1 is wrong, haha. But it's on my short list of favorite bourbon releases in the last few years. That said, it's one where some nights it hits harder than others. Were you the one that used to do consistency on your scores? That might be an issue. The calumet is just a reliable well made bourbon...I don't get the cherry notes though. I might up my rating if that comes in next time I pour it.
@@topshelfdustin3060 yeah I simplified it. Felt like I can talk about consistency in the palate. Each time I go back to old fitz it seems to get better and the finish is surprising. Calumet is getting more medicinal cherry as it opens
@@TheMashandDrum I gotta go back to calumet, I've been really on the fence if it's a really good bottle or if it's just another barton with more oak that did nothing extra.
Soooo much cherry on the Calumet 15. Like you said, not too medicinal but borderline. Probably the most cherry heavy bourbon I've had. Totally again on the finish
Never tried the old fitz 16 as in Ca this bottle is way expensive!! On another note - CA batch of calumet 15 is simply Un drinkable. I’ve even let this one open up as much as possible but I don’t get it …this bottle straight is turrrible!!!
Great versus. Not something you see every day.
Out of my price range.
Now 16yr vs 16yr---?
Don't even mention how they murdered a horse for millions in insurance fraud.
Calumet did?
@@TheMashandDrum Yes. The horse was named Alydar. The current owners of the farm and bourbon were able to buy the farm because of the scandal and actually launched the bourbon as part of the marketing behind the farm being relaunched.
@@mackal thanks for the info. That's crazy.
@@TheMashandDrum it's like the most interesting fact about them, was kind of surprised it wasn't mentioned XD
@@mackal probably not something I usually get on their marketing Materials. Lol
