I absolutely adore Monica Seles, she is so inspirational. She was the reason I started to play tennis. So gracious in winning and defeat. This match was a great fight between both players. I was fortunate enough to see their 1996 semi at the Australian and the final between Seles and Huber.
I have always been a Chanda Rubin fan. Severely underrated player. I think if Rubin had a little more self-belief/confidence and some better luck with her injuries, she should have won 2-3 slams.
Rubin career over early due to injuries. Monica, MAYBE would have won 18 GS if it wasn't for a crazy person conflicting injury to her. Nice battle to watch.>>>>
@@rolandgreen7484 i think she can go toe to toe with those players back then if she cameback in top shape. Back then even if not a 100% she gave them trouble and got deep in tournaments as well.
I first saw Monica when she was 14 or 16 years old,she played against Graff at Rolland Garros QF,it was 6:3,3:6,6:3.she lost.she could have won...still amazed by her attitude.Fierce, gentle and never give up.Just love her
One of the commentators seems to know it all about Monica. "I don't think she can lose much more weight" really??? Have you seen what Monica's normal, healthy self looks like? She's naturally a thin, tall woman and she had a severe overweight here as she did for all her post-stabbing career, so please just shut it.
Bry with all due respect Monica did not have 106 mph serves prior to Hamburg. She had good placement for sure but not those kinda speeds. Beefing up her serve was something she continually worked on post stabbing.
Per Ryden yes that was a good serving day for Monica, you’re right. Great day all round. I watched it live on Eurosport as I did all her matches back then. Showing my age, though I was only 12 lol
I'd much prefer seeing and hearing players give it everything they've got, even if that means emoting sound in such a physically grueling sport. Especially playing two hands off both sides.
Twenty years later Monica's playing style is still fascinating
No one like her
No better ball striker!
Agassi on the female side..
Bravo..

Monica should’ve had a even more glorious career
The great Monica. There’ll never be another like her ❤️
Remember their aussie open sf match? That was a classic

It is about 1993-97 not after 1998

craig mills Watch her Aus Open final from 1993 against Steffi and I think you’ll change your mind ;) 7 aces against Steffi’s 1!

craig mills I also watched although in Sweden all we got was a brief 15-20 highlight of the final.. :/ I was 13 though, so I do beat you in age! 🤭😆
I liked Monica's style of play....outside of the Williams sisters...I like her and Capriati.
its shame that nike didnt renew monicas contract - but she did have federers agent at that time who knew what he was doing
I miss them both 😘🌹😍 hi #MonicaSeles & #ChandaRubin...
who are the commentators ? They seem very knowledgable about Monica . . .
Who are the 2 commentators?
Mama Seles!
Szeles
Sorry for correcting but it's a Hungarian name
Is Cindy Schmerler commentating with the husky voice?
Good match between ShoeLace and Honda Robin
38:00 Chanda originated the Federer move.. lol And yes, I know.. I'm sure there were others before her.. just making a joke.
I love Chanda's forehand
Chanda’s hitting style is reminiscent of Sloan.
The 2002 final between Serena and Venus would be great! :-)
Richard fixes the match.
@@RameshKumar-ud5uk Elena dimentieva is that you ?
Before Sloan Stephens there was a player: “Chanda Rubin” Sloan,”look and listen!”
In Swahili..
mashujaa ..
