Chris W Dude, it’s 2020 if you didn’t realise. Not 2005 to 2006. Hingis is a full time mum now, I don’t think it is nice (nor true) to accuse a young mother of a drug addiction.
I’m a big Monica Seles fan, I was at the U.S. Open every match in 2000.. some insight into the match that not many people will know, two days before this match she had beaten Capriati in the fourth round after the match being a friend waited to see Monica get autographs, Monica took ages to come out to the car park where the players leave... when she did finally did come out she had BOTH ARMS (the forearms) wrapped in plastic with two huge bags of ice, I was shocked because obviously that amount of ice must’ve hurt and she must have injured her self in that much... I asked her if she was OK and she replied yes she was fine. However from the start of this match it’s quite clear that she was not herself clearly injured, The first set went by in A flash... for some reason I didn’t think of the ice two days before I just kept on thinking what the hell is wrong with her today, every ball was going out! As with many part of Monica‘s career she has had extreme amounts of bad luck... she is still the best and most unique and complete player I’ve had the pleasure to watch, I’m sure that she would have gone down as the all-time great. Love u Monica
I agree she is the best of all time, and she went through very difficult times throughout her wonderful career. Still her record is admirable. I love and miss her so much! ❤️❣️
I would only add this, She is a best tennis player off all time even she never win most tournaments we all know why. It’s not only haw many GS you win haw you win and who you hav a beating. Thanks
Hingus was right up there with the best of them. Navratilova, the Williams sisters Monica even before the incident, Graf, Vicario all of them, I liked Hingus play over them all.
@@EnzoCorsettiYT Martina was always a threat even at her latter stages. That same month (Feb 93) she beat World #2 Steffi, (make that victories over the two best players then) made that same year to Wimbledon SF losing to Novotna and year after made it to the final at SW19, losing in three sets, becoming that time’s oldest Major finalist only til Serena surpassed her a couple years ago. So I don’t really know what is your point since Martina throughout her whole career as I said was a threat
@@valentinodelpiero4861 The point is someone losing to a 37 year old is not unbeatable, LOL! And Graf never lost to an old Navratilova in her peak years- 88 and 89 or 95 and 96. 88 and 89 way younger than she was then.
@@rolandgreen7484Seles had won 56 of her last 57 matches in slams before the stabbing, the only loss was in the Wimbledon final when she was more concentrating on not grunting due to the "gruntometer". Outside of slams she could still lose some matches, but in slams she was a whole other level. 56 out of last 57, let that sink in. That's why she was stabbed.
Okkkkk come on USTA we need the semifinal match between Hingis and Venus. It was an incredible three set match and arguably the match of the tournament. Pretty pplleeeaaasseeeee
1998 -- 2003 has to be the best era *EVER in women's tennis -- and /by far/ the most influential. So many of these matches feature great shotmaking and added drama. Monica Seles herself said that women's tennis had really jumped a few levels at the late 1990s, into the early 2000s. i don't think that we will ever see so many talented players at the very top of game again.
i remember, i think it was in the year 2000 switzerland make with russia a show double match. For russia plays=anna Kurnikova and Marat Safin and for switzerland plays=Martina hingis and roger Federer...and i say/ask my selfe in that time , safin, kurnikova and hingis are such a good tennis players in the year 2000´´´´ WHAT THE HELL is federer looking for in this great double match....Years later my question answered itself
Seles first set really drove me mad. Monica kept hitting ball wide, long, and into the net with no change in game plan at all. All Hingis need to do was got the ball back
When are we gonna get Venus vs Zheng? The only proof that their match existed is a two minute clip that only shows half the match, neither the set point or the match point. If not a full match then at least some extended highlights please.🙏😩
Lets face it, Hingis never really "beat" Seles, she would just hit the ball in and wait for Seles to make a mistake. Seles never made these errors at her peak. Sure Hingis would use Seles' pace for the odd re-direction winner but not enough to win without Seles's plethora of errors. Seles really needed to focus on fitness and agility at this point of her career but it seems she never did enough for it.
I come late to Seles appreciation. But she does not look professional in the first set of this match. One thing you have to appreciate though is she knew she didn't want long rallies with Hingis and she went for winners throughout the first set and missed horribly. She didn't change her strategy one bit into the second set and kept blasting away. Then in a crucial game at either 5-3 or 5-4 at deuce probably she is receiving a second serve after having blown one on the last point. I asked myself is she going to go for it again? Yes, she blasted it and got the point. She knew aggression would be her only chance against the comprehensive talents of Hingis and she stuck to her game plan.
Finally some Martina Hingis reruns! Honestly her matches were always brilliant. One of the best players ever but always looked over
cuz shes a not a nice person and addicted to cocaine.

Looked over? Hingis?
She was a weak era champ like her compatriot Federer

Monica was incredible, probably one of my favorites players ever.
yes, more Hingis plz!!
MORE Monica Seles. Please.

One of the best matches Monica played later in her career was 2001 Toronto semifinal against Serena and then 2002 Miami against Clijsters.
great comment from fellow Seles fan
Thank you that is great to know. She’s hugely missed on the tour. What a player she was at her best

Remember when Seles was unbeatable until that tragic stabbing incident? If that didn't happen she'd maybe have won the most championships!
your unbeatable was beaten by 37-yrs-old Navratilova a few weeks before being stabbed

If monica still a teenage before stabbing incident Vs Martina score definitely closer.
Can you post any Hingis’ ladies doubles and mixed double matches at the us open?
Oh, yes! The match that won her the Grand Slam in 1998 would be awesome!

Monica get smashed in less than 15 minutes in the first set
Actually, she got smashed by herself and not by Hingis. So, no credit to Hingis there. Hehehe.
Hingis

One of monica's worst matches at the Open, pity :(
Match between two Hungarian girls. Both are very good.
Hingis won...yes. But clearly, even at her low, Seles hits more power than Hingis. Seles at her top will demolish Hingis at her top.
Good tennis is not only about power lol. Hingis simply outplayed Monica most of the time.
back then the women dress like teen boys
Lmao. So true xD
Not true. Graf, Kournikova, Serena and Venus disagree. And the skirts now are like, what's the point? Not that I am complaining.
Why? BC they were wearing normal T-shirts? That's both for men and women. Can't believe every woman player nowadays only wears sleeveless shirts
