    This song was written by Don Walker and Jimmy Barnes, it was released as a single in 1978 when Jimmy would have been 22 years old. There is another version of this song about 1980, recorded at the Manly Vale Hotel, and Jimmy is in the crowd, singing, and then stands on something so he is above the crowd and he has a bottle of vodka in his hand and he is handing it around to the young men around him, who take the bottle then hand it back and he hands it to someone else, before climbing back onto the stage with his bottle still singing. Unfortunately the film quality is not very good. Jimmy singing Forever Now, which you reacted to recently, was older he would have been 26 years old. Which shows he always could vary the sound of his voice depending on what he is singing. A good example is in Bow River 2003😅 version, he really belts it out when singing on his own, as soon as he starts to harmonise with Mossy, his voice calms down and he blends in and doesn’t overpower Mossy. He is a brilliant harmoniser. Love him. ❤

    Love your reaction to this song. When you reacted to "Forever Now" previously, you speculated that perhaps Jimmy didn't possess much of the rasp or grit at the time he recorded that song.
    Actually this version of "Goodbye Astrid" was recorded before "Forever Now" was released, so the grit was definitely available to him whenever he wanted it.

    Jimmy is my all time favourite. There are great singers galore past and present. I don't expect everyone else to see it that way, but I also couldn't give a damm if people ever said he wouldn't be up there with the best. They are entitled to their own opinions. He is such a legend in my eyes. I wish I was an adult in the 70's when he started though. Long live Jimmy 🇦🇺🇦🇺💕💕

  • @NeilBlanco
    @NeilBlanco Год назад +2

    Jimmy really is unique. The reason he hasn't blown out his voice is he doesn't actually use his normal vocal cords to sing. This is what he said about it:
    My secondary cords or "false cords". There are groups of them around the main cords. I discovered this many years ago. I'd had a bug, and because it was such a big show and we were postponing, I had to get a doctor's certificate for insurance. This throat specialist put a camera down my throat, and had me talking and singing. And he said, "You don't use your vocal cords." Singers who scream as much as I do tend to have problems. But my body found a way of self-defence.

    • @Dr_KAP
      @Dr_KAP Год назад

      Well just to be clear, he does use his normal vocal cords to sing because false vocal cords aren’t capable of making any sound at all. They simply allow changes in the passage of air which result in different sounds from the normal cords- including growls and screams. We all use them, he just uses them exceptionally well in some aspects of his singing. What actually distinguishes Jimmy’s voice from yours or mine is the length and thickness of his normal vocal cords. Add to that his ability to move air through them from the false cords and you get the raspiness with vibrato. It isn’t something unique, all singers use false vocal cords, Jimmy just does it particularly well and this is likely due to the structure of his larynx and cords generally.
