YESSSS LONGER MEANS BETTER *that's what she said*
Hopefully we see IBR outside soon
The way that Perez went for the hand shake with Max after the race and Max just hugs him. It was so adorable.
Right?!? I saw that too ❤️
And Max sending a thank you to him over the radio (assuming that someone on the pit wall passed it on). It's not something you usually hear during the race.
Perez/Redbull really help Max a lot with the 1 stop strategy. It put Mercedes in a lose lose situation to 1 stop or 2 stop. Mercedes should give bottas 2 stop. So he could race Perez and force Perez push harder and punish the tyres.
Check is the new Kubica. Everybody loves him
so cute!
Can we talk about how Checo was able to manage a one stop and still finish 3rd! Phenomenal tire management!!!
Oh wow I thought he stopped twice. That’s amazing!
@@pauldraper2598 the only 2 drivers who did a 2 stop were Verstappen and Leclerc
www.formula1.com/en/results.html/2021/races/1070/france/pit-stop-summary.html
He was 15 sec behind bottas after 1st stop and did the second fastest lap of the race on lap 52, driver of the day for me.
Oh sure talk about that day in and day out. Checo is the man to talk about. No one else deserves more praise than him rn. He is the one variable that's helping Red Bull to fight and win the Mercedes
If there were 5 more laps i think he would get p2
Honestly this was one of the best races I've seen in the past few years that didn't rely on SC/Red flag or crazy weather conditions. The only period that was a little boring was like lap 5-15 and then after that you could see opportunity for strategies to play out for the win and there was good midfield action all race. Personally the first half of the race flew by and then the last half was clear there should be some action for the win in the dying laps. Great race all around
Great thoughts there my friend. Very well written.
It might have been boring in the front, but the midfield was lit. Ricciardo was overtaking right and left.
@@georgythomas8451 For real! Seeing Ricciardo moving past the Alpines and Ferraris, and his team mate Lando just following him right behind, it was so exciting to see the McLaren duo just breezing through the midfield!
@@techpassion4126 Lando go yoink
Bahrain was just as exciting
I absolutely love how Social Media Team Championship has basically changed the way some teams manage their social medias, the influence WTF1 has is incredible and amazing to witness as a fan of your work ;)
There might be a bonus from the team if they make it to the podium
I don’t think thats just WTF1 but also half the grid being young and knowing the power of social media. Helped push that.
@@sander2723 exactly.... I think Elon musk is a big influence on how big corporations are doing their social media :)
@@felixbb1445Definitely, and young drivers which have changed how teams manage social media (such as lando norris) also help to create new fans and therefore grow the sport so that it can be successful in the future, once these fans grow up and pass on their love of the sport to the then younger generations.
French GP was legit a complete UNO reverse card of Spanish GP 🤣
it wasn't boring it was interesting this time
Strategic wise especially
Yes much better than the Spanish GP
@@joshmcfie673 both were interesting

Me to paul ricard: “I guess I treat you too harshly”
Haha! All week I was telling my mates Paul Ricard sucks, how the turntables.
I was anticipating a dull as dishwater race too. Pleasantly surprised.
At least this track kan be improve unlike russia and Barcelona I think I like this track more than Barcelona
Why is Sochi so hated, it is such a good circut. It has intense moments. Same question woth Mazepin.
@@Adam_GamesHD not really Sochi still not good track. Is gonna get interesting when crash or retirement and that it 2015 was ok and 2017 and other was boring af
I delayed going to bed just so I could watch this. Glad my decision was a good one 😂
Same my friend...almost 1 am here from where I'm atm😅
Same my friends

Same 😂
Fuck going to bed I gotta watch this
I think this season is starting to show just how important Niki Lauda was to keeping Mercedes-AMG running smoothly behind the scenes. I think he'd have some choice words to say if both drivers had insisted on a 2-stop and the team still goes for a one stop. Lauda was the stable base that kept the team calm and focused when things got difficult and I think they're now missing that. The fact this is the first year in a long time where they have an actual fight on their hands just adds to this.
exactly what i thought, it really looks like Mercedes is really underperforming without a proper leader as Toto has shown he's makes consistent poor calls after Lauda is not helping him anymore
Err Niki was non executive chairman. He wasn't involved in team strategy or management. Toto has been team principle since Ross Brawn left at the end of 2013
@@kityhawk2000 Yeah the original comment is defininitely emotion trumping reason. Niki was a non-executive advisor.
nope Niki would just be there b*thing about the outcome without productive live feedback.
@@jasperfk You severely underestimate the influence of Niki Lauda. He pulled a lot of strings in the background. He was the one who finally convinced Lewis to go to Mercedes. He did the same with Michael and Ferrari. And there he was "only" an advisor...
My dad and I got so excited when Verstappen overtook Hamilton. What a race for the dutch young man! Well done Max!
All thanks to the Honda engine and their amazing people..
Brightest minds and hardest working employees.
They can be really proud of their performance.
It saddens me to see them leave.
(Not gonna lie,
i was excited too hahahahaha)
@@metalboy8934 what a moment!
Can we just say that Vettel’s doing well and everyone is suddenly happy 😂
Love the difference how Lewis gets treated vs how Valterri does... Case in point. After Lewis gets p2 in France Sorry Lewis this one's on us. Valterri after the pit crew stuffed his wheel...Toto comes straight out with, Valterri didn't stop correctly. Am I the only one getting a tad annoyed at Mercedes for crippling Valterri?
I feel like Bottos is the second driver. Even Mercedes knows he can't beat Max so they putting all their eggs on Sir Lewis.
@@MakolaTL but he doesn't have to win from Max, he has to help Lewis win. If they don't give him anything Valteri really can't help.
We seen it so many times when Max was fighting Lewis and Valteri, it is near impossible to win against 2 cars that will cover your pit off.
Bottas is the only driver who can stop three wheels of an F1 car correctly and one wheel not😂
C'mon Toto, That's 🧢
Bottas
Oh yes!! Been waiting for this one all evening!!
It’s here 😁😁
Could someone explain the mercedes tweet, the "T as in" one?
Danny Ric looked pretty equal to Lando in this race. The last overtake was due to team orders as Lando had better tires.
Yeah lando stopped late and his tires were fresher than Ricci, so i think he had the same pace with Lando because he even stopped earlier than Hamilton.
It was good hear Bottas unload. Mission protect Hamilton failed hard.
he would have finished 4th regardless. staying out was his best chance.
@@ddha0000 But verstappen may have still had to overtake bottas on fresher tires if bottas pitted earler and got his lap times up. Bottas could have at least applied some pressure.
@@ddha0000 no sir, Bottas was significantly quicker than Hamilton. If they would have gave Bottas two stop, 2nd or 1st.
Example, look how long Bottas follow Hamilton within .4 seconds in a car that "can't follow".
The days of Mercedes AMG lulling the field into 1 stops is over. That style plays to Hamilton and Perez's style not the field. Remember Alonso's 4 stop win?
@@powerofdreamx At that stage of the race, both Mercs had more pace than RB since Lewis was also following closely behind Verstappen.
If Bottas had undercut Verstappen on the two stopper he'd had finished P1 or P2. He was very quick yesterday. There's no way in hell Perez in tractor mode just to save tyres would have caught him

I can say that we all truly love these vids Matt.
And we love you too!!
Darn smooth @WTF1
Not a fan of Hamilton but he had me worried with the pace he had on old tyres, he drove well.
Hm. I have my favorites but I think I’m a fan of everyone
@@mr.malcolmthegreat awk I get that, but as far as I'm concerned, and it applies to every sport I watch, it's much more fun when you have a dislike of certain teams/people. It's certainly not personal but makes for a better viewing experience.
He didn't really have that much pace though. Verstappen lost big time to some backmarkers. That's why the gap at some point seemed constant of even enlarging.
He drove so well to lose 😂
@@benhardcastle2305 P2 = losing now, alright 😂
A actual good paul ricard race? This cannot be real but I'm so happy that it was a good race.
No DNF, no rain, no safety car on Paul Ricard........
And it is a normal race (besides tyre graining but we all know it is coming)
@@staomruel there was plenty of on track action even without those
@@bleh7605 that's what I mean, usually you need those for things to get exciting there.
Literally my mom last friday " oh with all the surface lines if someone goes off it'll be interesting, this is gonna be a fun race" me: " mom it's gonna be boring AF, nothing will happen".... I should say that more often.
Kudos to Max for picking up the pace with 3 or so laps to go, I thought with 6 to go the two stop wasn't going to work.
Beautiful picture for me is perez and max hugging each other and even Max complemented him on the radio that was beautiful team moment💙
The last couple of years the only time Max has had to overtake a teammate has been while lapping them - and he didn’t get as much space as Perez gave him 😀 Sergio genuinely drove the perfect support race.
*Everyone thanking the track for an interesting race.*
*FIA who's been doing changes all season to make racing closer and more interesting* (muffled crying)
the "and the non-finishers were" part had me actually laughing out loud. Amazing show.
“QUICK! Cut to the Haas battle for second to last place!” - No one ever, why do we do this?
That race rundown was simply incredible 😂
You always know it was a good race when you have a hard time giving ABCDEF1 grades to drivers outside of the Top 10 because there was no time to see what they were up to
11:29 that’s not fair actually. Bottas was lapping quicker than Hamilton at that point
Alot of matts points are unfair
Then you should have heard Ralf Schumacher speak in the German commentary. He absolutely tore Bottas apart. I also think that the criticism of him this weekend is a bit too much...
@@benn8793 Yeah but with Ralf, it's just what he does. He did that with Seb in the beginning of the season, now he's doing it with Bottas. And both of them have been more succesful in their carreer than him.
8/10 race, 10/10 considering its Paul Ricard
Perez: has a mediocre race
Matt: 🤬
Perez: has a banger of a race
Matt: 👨🦯
Some say perez is still doing laps with the same tires
You have no idea how exciting these videos make me feel… it just completes my entire weekend
Hamilton bottling it 2 races in a row is the most meme worthy moment of the year😂
Don’t see how Hamilton bottled it? Mercedes were the ones who ignored their drivers and went for a one stop.
There were some standout performances today:
Perez, Riccardo, Gasly, Norris, Alonso, Russel
And Stroll. Guy went from P19 into the points.
Lance Strolled from p19 to p10
Not even a slight mention of the two Charlos at Ferrari.
@@mr.malcolmthegreat Nice one....
Got to admit that AMR’s strategy was amazing and they had been struggling all weekend. I think they are going to do well at Austria
Just wanna say I love your dedication, energy and hard work in these videos Really makes my day.

@@WTF1official Yeah it's a lot of fun. I love Ted's Notebook and WTF1, my ritual.

Can Russell get points: Well yes, but actually no
Why would verstappen care about an overhyped boy getting points?

Last time I was this early Ham brakes were fuming 😋
Man, this series is amazing! Please keep up the good work and thank you for all the effort put into it.
I guess I'll have to wait for Katy's comments on the podcast just to hear someone give a little bit of credit to Perez for helping his team to get some points.
After all, he was your Piñata after Barcelona and how he didnt perform. Now he does, and zero comments about it when the table turned around. 👀👀
I mean shouldn't those performances be normal?
@@felixbenner1113 many people are fixed on the idea that red Bull makes it hard for 2nd drivers and saying that what checo does is normal would be admitting that Albon/Gasly pace wasn't Red Bulls fault
@@ab-kr6qn I mean that's what expected of that seat, so both things can be true at the same time (redbull can still be at fault if Albon/Gasly didn't do what its normally expected).
I do think that regardless of that, if you trash someone for poor performance, you should also applaud them when they do what's expected of them (not always obviously) because its a good way to reinforce behaviours.
Tbh I think checo was the most important driver from a strategy point of view. Being almost a pit back but on fresh tyres killed any chance of a Merc 2 stop
a b it was Red Bulls fault. They promoted drivers who clearly weren't ready.
I was prepared for it to be an uneventful race, but god was my heart racing during the whole race. It felt nice having that kind of adrenaline pumping through my body again while watching an F1 race.
Finally. Now I can watch, then sleep

I am very afraid that during the summer break Mercedes Will suddenly figure out the aerodynamics and the beat red bull.
@@PlittHD doubt it
@@PlittHD highly doubt it
@@PlittHD I thought development was paused during summer break?

That race rundown was pissing-with-laughter hysterical.
This episode was awesome! I felt your excitement!!
Channel 4 interviewed Toto, and he was asked about Valtteri letting off steam, so to speak, and would he be unhappy with the way he did it. Toto actually smiled, said no, he was happy that Valtteri was being so passionate, that they'd been hoping to get that from him. 🤷
Btw, I do believe him, he's a very honest guy, but I'm not sure what it means in the long run for Valtteri.
It’s already a certainty that russel is in next year do u not read the news
@@benhardcastle2305 no one was talking about Russell, stop shoving that overhyped hothead down people's throats whenever Bottas is mentioned

Toto is lying they have already choose to leave Valtteri
@@TheGuelfor he literally commented “I’m not sure what this means in the long run for valterri” that implies he is unsure of vallterris future even tho it’s already a certainty russel is in. U need a bit more initiative to read in between the lines

One thing I noticed after the race is how critical Perez still was of himself and looking for where to improve (possibly abt his start + pace on the first stint) even though he won a place ánd a podium. That's what's going to make him the better teammate for Max in a long time!
