    It was a good race but it wasn’t a banger. Just like you have been saying on the podcast, everyone is getting spoiled with wild races and then normal, good races seem boring. Checo was fun to watch. The Haas team was spicy. Fernando put on some good moves. Great strategy battle the whole way. Classic F1 if you ask me.

    I thought the race was a good strategic battle. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time thinking someone was going to crash between turns 1 and 3. Seb spun on T3 and really good driving from Valterri to avoid that wreck. Not as good as some of this years bangers but a solid race. Plus that atmosphere looked incredible.

      Sadly I'm very much on the thought that they won't be much better. Till cars can *safely* shrink again, i go with the thought that passing will be eh regardless of succ/down forces sources. Currently cars are just too big for a lot of circuits that just weren't made for the cars.

      Before I start, can we talk about how quick that Alpine has become? That thing has made huge strides. Renault has done something with the PU because the overspeed that Alonso and Ocon had down the straights was downright ridiculous.
      Here's what makes what you said better. 17 laps before the end of the GP, Alonso's engineer to him that Ocon was 1.6 behind, and Ocon was 1.7 ahead of Perez, so Alonso took off. Like, he completely checked out opening a 7 second gap on Ocon, and Ocon got passed by Perez. Then at lap 13, Alonso's engineer said "you're 1 second a lap quicker than Sainz ahead. Gap is 10 seconds and there's 13 laps left."
      Alonso LITERALLY went "hmmm. Interrrresting." Then he passed Sainz right before Perez caught up to both of them. Alonso is an absolute beast at the wheel. I'm a George Russell fan (started watching F1 in 2019 and F2 in 2018 because he did an outreach program in the USA), but Alonso has become one of my favorites. He's a great guy and showcases every week that he's absolutely still got it. Watching older F1 races with him made me realize that Hamilton is truly remarkable for handling him in 07, because Alonso with a decent car is miles above everyone else.

      @@spencerrollins7582 Sorry friend but I think your facts are actually wrong. First, you said 17 laps from finish, which means at lap 55, Alonso was ahead of Ocon by 1.6, true. But Perez was nowhere behind Ocon at all, infact it was Norris, 1.8 sec behind (Perez was 8 sec behind Norris). Alonso did checked out, but Ocon wasn't overtaken by anyone at all till the very end of the race. He himself opened up gap to Norris to 3 sec (who was on fresher tyres than him btw). Also, max gap between Ocon and Alonso was 5 sec, and Ocon actually started to close back in too. Alonso Caught up Sainz on lap 62 and was sitting within 1 sec for very long time. Ocon was faster than Sainz too and was closing on him as well. But his bigger problem was Perez behind him on softs. So he maintained his gap to Alonso at 1 sec again. Perez Caught up at Lap 68. He passed him next lap, but it was more due to Ocon locking up and ran wider at 2nd DRS start. Perez was already within touching distance from Alonso himself.
      Not taking away anything from Alonso tho, he had a brilliant race. But it made it feel like Ocon was too slow, which wasn't the case

    I'm sorry, hold on, Lando had a "beautiful overcut" because Daniel backed up the pack for him by slowing down about 4 seconds a lap for several laps - he didn't just "drop back" for no reason, his pace was actually quite good. And then in the end Lando was just where Daniel would've been anyway. So if you want to feel sad for Daniel, feel sad because McLaren's strategy compromised his race for literally no reason.

Lando himself fully expects not to be third by the end of the season. I don't buy that at all for justification of their strategy today. Daniel was better in qualifying, had a good start, good race pace -- until it was unraveled for a poor strategy that did the team no real favors.

    • @sloppynyuszi
      @sloppynyuszi 3 года назад +2

This is a disappointing year.
      I want him to do well, but it looked like they were on for 9 and 10th finish at best and they rather Lando in front. Perez just destroyed that plan.

Talking about information on screen, the tire degradation info is very poor and most of the time incorrect. You can just have a look at the interval and see who is struggling most.

    The first laps were so awesome. Seeing the cars wheel to wheel two and three wide storming at corners. Flying high through the banking and shooting down like rockets. Just wow. After the cars settled a bit, it was a nice rest for the heartrate. The rest was good, not boring but a bit old fashioned waiting for the main action. Pitstops spiked the hype, and the dozen or so laps before Bottas final pitstop was spicy strategy and pace wise. All in all a very decent race while enjoying those incredible machines being catapulted through incredible twists and turns.
    The new standard for track design is found in this blend of old school and daring concept at Zandvoort. And Matt: not "make the track wider", but the make cars smaller. Back to lean and mean, instead of obesitas monsters.
