I turned on the race just as Max was walking back. Then I looked and saw Hamilton out too. I was like WHAT HAPPENED. Then I saw the McLaren 1-2 under the safety car and shit myself a second time.
Daniel wasnt pulling away to be fair. Lewis and Max both couldnt get past just cause its hard on Monza, like Lewis said after the sprint race as well. You could see that the gaps between DR & MV and LN & LH kept going from 0.5 to 1.5 and back.
Merit yes, he deserved to be leading he passed Max, pulling away, no Both the Red Bull and Merc were faster, they just couldnt use the pace as the rear wing is so skinny that the DRS is virtually useless. You need to be 0.4 of a second faster to pass and on pace it looked like the Merc was about 0.3 faster and the Red Bull 0.2. Well done to McLaren tho for being that close. Lewis got far closer to Lando that Max got to Danny tho, and more often, it just wasnt quite enough

Mercedes didn’t even treat him that badly. The one year contracts I’ll give you but if he’d been more consistent he’d have gotten longer ones. Every year he and Lewis were given an equal footing until one was out of contention for the drivers title. Valterri was just not consistent enough to be world champion material so Mercedes then played the team game to ensure victory for them and their only driver left in the title battle

@@Gollas4k Shame. I’m absolutely happy for the McLarens but Bottas’ drive was highly under the radar for no apparent reason. Going from P19 to P3 in a track like Monza where you can easily get stuck in a DRS train ain’t easy at all.

He was preserving tires and performance the entire second stint. He picked up pace as soon as the pit told him to after Landos cheeky message. Pretty sure he was also driving slower to ensure the DRS train was alive and well to keep a McLaren 1 and 2.

i don't wanna say much, and i also don't wanna like this cause the number is noice, but.. anyway. the halo did it's job, sadly not as we wanted it to because there was still a chance that hamilton's neck could've been crushed.. i think a bit extra on the top of the halo is needed tbh.
The wheel stopped on his head because of the halo, not in spite of it. Not arguing they're bad, I'm glad it was there, stopped him having a very nasty concussion. Wasn't going to kill him. So, the halo has actually guaranteed the safety of way more drivers in a relatively short amount of time than I think anyone expected. Not to mention it has certainly saved at very least one life

I completely agree on McLaren. I honestly don't care one way or another about them as teams or drivers. But lord they deserve the big win, and it's definitely nice to see some new colors dominating that podium.

Well, Verstappen's idol is Schumacher and he's been getting lessons from his father-in-law, Piquet. So throwing cars at others and fist fighting is not off the table. It feelss so much better to win here at Monza. As a Mclaren fan, i am loving our battle for P3 with Ferrari. Our rivalry with Ferrari is probably the greatest rivalry of all time in F1.
I wish both Ferrari and McLaren would get more competitive with the top following the rule changes. It will be extremely interesting to see how/if the grid pecking order changes with new cars and budget limits.

I think Daniel was nursing the tires a little when he knew it was lando behind him, he seemed to have the pace when asked to push. So I don't think Land was getting past even if he was allowed to race. Well earned Danny Ric!
I understand the penalty for Max, the issue I have is that if the kerb hadn't thrown him in the air, probably no contact or minimal and they would have kept going and kept battling through to the DRS zone on the back straight. I understand the penalty but, from the perspective available to me on the cameras I was able to watch, Max was alongside and was warranted space because his front axel was ahead of Lewis' rear axel thus making it a racing incident and not worth a grid penalty. If the FIA is going to hand out disciplinary actions, they need to be consistant in how they penalise the drivers.
You can say the same for LH turn 4 lap 1. He just knew that space was never going to be given. So he went over the curbs. Why can't Verstappen do the same. Always the same with the guy either move out of MY way or we crash.
To Max - Don't dish it out if you can't take it. He has to have known at some point Lewis wasn't going to just move aside for him whenever they got close. If he didn't learn it in Silverstone, I hope he has learned it now. It's not "Max's" Race track.
@@jimmyking1205 They are in the championship fight, of course none of them will back off. They are going to keep crashing into each other if they think that risk/reward is worth it for them. With the incident in lap 1, Lewis still had a lot of chance to catchup during the race with strategy and stuff, but after the pit stop they knew that the one leading out of the chicane will finish on top, so none of them yield.

Verstappen absolutely deserved that penalty. 1. He knew there wasn't enough space 2. He knew about the sausage curb 3. He knew about the escape road 4. "That's what you get for not leaving me enough space" So I think we can all stop calling it a racing "inchident".
Im getting more and more worried about MV as season progresses. He just seems to have this attitude towards LH of leave me space or we will crash. Hothead Horner is just making things worse and between the two of them they seem set on throwing away a championship they should be winning easily.
@@matthewvanrensburg3824 I don't think he's looking at the longer championship game when he makes these moves. I agree with the stewards report of the incident. I think he should have taken the escape road with the bumps and tried to get past Hamilton at another opportunity when halfway through that move, you could see there wasn't the room to go around turn 2. If they crashed slightly differently and Hamilton was able to carry on with the race, he would have lost his championship point advantage on Hamilton. Both drivers should be more careful with their moves as there's going to be more painful championship blows.
@@squeakers27 Hamilton has regularly been pulling out since race 1 though. As a MV fan, I really wish Max would learn the value of 'living' to fight another day as the saying goes. He just keeps flirting with disaster for no reason, he has the better car this season. @@matthewvanrensburg3824 Agree for this Monza one, disagree that some of the others were unwarranted. Silverstone wasn't really that much on Max as there was space, and they still would have crashed if he left an extra meter. And of course Baku and Hungary are plain terrible luck. As for the times that Lewis pulled out (Barcelona, Imola) they kinda benefitted Max there because it was Lewis' race to win, so I get why he is this aggressive. I would say it was smart from Lewis to avoid him (and win at least in Barcelona), but also makes sense that Max goes for it in Spain as there as he had no chance otherwise. The Imola incident is basically a carbon copy of Monza here, but the arrangement of the kerbs wasn't so that Lewis bounced into Max, he just damaged his own car. And if we're being honest here, it kinda suited Max again in Monza to keep his car there. If Lewis had stayed in front, there is no way Max would have ended up in front of him. So it makes sense to stick to your line and say, well if you want to crash when you'll probably beat me so be it. Obviously he got the penalty which makes it less worth it, and is probably the right call from the stewards.
@@squeakers27 Hamilton is careful. Go through his track record and you'll find that he looks after his equipment way better than MV. A more recent example: MV did the same thing to LH at the 2nd chicane. But LH did the mature thing, conceded the space and started the fight for the position all over again.
I couldn't stop laughing when they kept asking Bottas about Hamilton's crash.. he came from the back of the grid to get third and gets asked... "so what about Hamilton?" I was borderline in tears.

Let's be real, what a great effort from McLaren. They won this on merit. They did it on track, not because of HAM & VER crash (well DR did atleast). Did well in qualifying, put in on front row in the sprint race, made it stick at the start taking the inside before turn 1, and then held the pace the whole race and covered off the attack with pit strategy. Hats off to Daniel Ricciardo. Hats off to Lando Norris. An hats off to the whole team. Take a bow.

From all the complaints about the sport in the past several years, this is everything we've been wanting and I'm loving every second of it. The main battle, other teams are making their way back to the pointy end of the grid, etc. I hope this means we'll be seeing a lot more action overall when the new cars run. People may not realize it now, but this season is already one for the history books and we only have 8 races left, enjoy it.
DanRic led every lap apart from when he boxed, but once the others boxed, he was back in front. Yeah, that's basically a start-to-finish lead. He won the race in the first 200m, but FIA wouldn't sign off on that until 53 laps later.
Spare a thought for Alex Albon, on a week when his drive with Williams has been announced, he now has to spend the whole week in the simulator re-enacting the incident.

You need to be 0.4 of a second faster to pass and on pace it looked like the Merc was about 0.3 faster and the Red Bull 0.2. Well done to McLaren tho for being that close. Lewis got far closer to Lando that Max got to Danny tho, and more often, it just wasnt quite enough

The "to whom it may concern" did not help his image, especially the second time. Just made him seem bitter, and then lacking in imagination.
Mercedes didn’t even treat him that badly. The one year contracts I’ll give you but if he’d been more consistent he’d have gotten longer ones. Every year he and Lewis were given an equal footing until one was out of contention for the drivers title. Valterri was just not consistent enough to be world champion material so Mercedes then played the team game to ensure victory for them and their only driver left in the title battle

The wheel stopped on his head because of the halo, not in spite of it. Not arguing they're bad, I'm glad it was there, stopped him having a very nasty concussion. Wasn't going to kill him. Let's not give more credit to the Halo then is due. We're all glad to have it, but it's not literally always saving everyone's lives. Let's keep some perspective.

Monza is the gift that keeps on giving. The last 3 races there should be an example of why Monza is GREAT
So, the halo has actually guaranteed the safety of way more drivers in a relatively short amount of time than I think anyone expected. Not to mention it has certainly saved at very least one life

I was so worried Lando was going to be grumpy for having to hold position. But his elation over the team radio, celebrations with Daniel & Brown & Seidl, and his statements saying he understood the day's importance (and that his day will come)... just mad respect for the lad.

Well, Verstappen's idol is Schumacher and he's been getting lessons from his father-in-law, Piquet. So throwing cars at others and fist fighting is not off the table. And even before that, Max was already pretty hot headed.
So... Since Hamilton's took karate lessons and trains boxing regularly, for the sake of Max, let's hope he doesn't "do a Piquet" and try to fist fight Hamilton, 'cause the kid will get K.O. and Hamilton will get banned. Nobody wants any of this.

As a Mclaren fan, i am loving our battle for P3 with Ferrari. Our rivalry with Ferrari is probably the greatest rivalry of all time in F1.
I wish both Ferrari and McLaren would get more competitive with the top following the rule changes. It will be extremely interesting to see how/if the grid pecking order changes with new cars and budget limits.

I think Daniel was nursing the tires a little when he knew it was lando behind him, he seemed to have the pace when asked to push. So I don't think Land was getting past even if he was allowed to race. Well earned Danny Ric!
I understand the penalty for Max, the issue I have is that if the kerb hadn't thrown him in the air, probably no contact or minimal and they would have kept going and kept battling through to the DRS zone on the back straight. I understand the penalty but, from the perspective available to me on the cameras I was able to watch, Max was alongside and was warranted space because his front axel was ahead of Lewis' rear axel thus making it a racing incident and not worth a grid penalty. If the FIA is going to hand out disciplinary actions, they need to be consistant in how they penalise the drivers.
I honestly wouldn't mind the penalty but the stewards reasoning was shit.
You can say the same for LH turn 4 lap 1. He just knew that space was never going to be given. So he went over the curbs. Why can't Verstappen do the same. Always the same with the guy either move out of MY way or we crash.
To Max - Don't dish it out if you can't take it. He has to have known at some point Lewis wasn't going to just move aside for him whenever they got close. If he didn't learn it in Silverstone, I hope he has learned it now. It's not "Max's" Race track.
@@jimmyking1205 They are in the championship fight, of course none of them will back off. They are going to keep crashing into each other if they think that risk/reward is worth it for them. With the incident in lap 1, Lewis still had a lot of chance to catchup during the race with strategy and stuff, but after the pit stop they knew that the one leading out of the chicane will finish on top, so none of them yield.

As a Lando fan, I am 100% happy that Danny Ric took the win. Lando will win many races in the future.
Verstappen absolutely deserved that penalty.
1. He knew there wasn't enough space
2. He knew about the sausage curb
3. He knew about the escape road
4. "That's what you get for not leaving me enough space"

I think he should have taken the escape road with the bumps and tried to get past Hamilton at another opportunity when halfway through that move, you could see there wasn't the room to go around turn 2. If they crashed slightly differently and Hamilton was able to carry on with the race, he would have lost his championship point advantage on Hamilton. Both drivers should be more careful with their moves as there's going to be more painful championship blows.

He just keeps flirting with disaster for no reason, he has the better car this season. If LH/Merc wins again, Max and Horner only going to have themselves to blame and its quite infuriating as a fan this side tbf.
@@matthewvanrensburg3824 Agree for this Monza one, disagree that some of the others were unwarranted. Silverstone wasn't really that much on Max as there was space, and they still would have crashed if he left an extra meter. And of course Baku and Hungary are plain terrible luck. As for the times that Lewis pulled out (Barcelona, Imola) they kinda benefitted Max there because it was Lewis' race to win, so I get why he is this aggressive. I would say it was smart from Lewis to avoid him (and win at least in Barcelona), but also makes sense that Max goes for it in Spain as there as he had no chance otherwise. The Imola incident is basically a carbon copy of Monza here, but the arrangement of the kerbs wasn't so that Lewis bounced into Max, he just damaged his own car. And if we're being honest here, it kinda suited Max again in Monza to keep his car there. If Lewis had stayed in front, there is no way Max would have ended up in front of him. So it makes sense to stick to your line and say, well if you want to crash when you'll probably beat me so be it. Obviously he got the penalty which makes it less worth it, and is probably the right call from the stewards.
@@squeakers27 Hamilton is careful. Go through his track record and you'll find that he looks after his equipment way better than MV. A more recent example: MV did the same thing to LH at the 2nd chicane. But LH did the mature thing, conceded the space and started the fight for the position all over again.
I couldn't stop laughing when they kept asking Bottas about Hamilton's crash.. he came from the back of the grid to get third and gets asked... "so what about Hamilton?" I was borderline in tears.

Let's be real, what a great effort from McLaren. They won this on merit. They did it on track, not because of HAM & VER crash (well DR did atleast). Did well in qualifying, put in on front row in the sprint race, made it stick at the start taking the inside before turn 1, and then held the pace the whole race and covered off the attack with pit strategy. Hats off to Daniel Ricciardo. Hats off to Lando Norris. An hats off to the whole team. Take a bow.

From all the complaints about the sport in the past several years, this is everything we've been wanting and I'm loving every second of it. The main battle, other teams are making their way back to the pointy end of the grid, etc. I hope this means we'll be seeing a lot more action overall when the new cars run. People may not realize it now, but this season is already one for the history books and we only have 8 races left, enjoy it.

DanRic led every lap apart from when he boxed, but once the others boxed, he was back in front. Yeah, that's basically a start-to-finish lead. He won the race in the first 200m, but FIA wouldn't sign off on that until 53 laps later.
