Thanks for a great tutorial. I am cleaning up my old Rancilio Silvia to give to mum to replace her Breville dual boiler. I replaced my Silvia with an ECM Synchronika about 6 years ago. The Silvia against the ECM for espresso does an impressive job for the price difference when using a good grinder. The Silvia I find to make good espresso needs a really good grinder , the Mazzer Luigi I use now when I was testing the Silvia, makes it easier to pull a good shot,l. Compared to the Rancilio Rocky grinder where I used to dump a number of shots. The key lesson for me is, invest in a good grinder from the start.
Cheers, thank you for sharing. When I purchased my Silvia, the lady who served us mentioned that the Coffee Machine comes 3rd in the rank of good coffee. 1st is the coffee beans. 2nd is the coffee grinder and then 3rd is the coffee machine.
I can absolutely agree. I own my Silvia for nearly 2 decades now. It has been only once for a general review! And it makes a very good espresso. Since two years, I want to buy a La Marzocco Linea mini, but my Silvia needs to give up service first. I guess, I will never get a Linea Mini🤷 and maybe I will buy another Silvia, for about €600 instead of Linea Mini for about €6000.
This is an excellent, crystal-clear presentation. Unfortunately, I've been unable to get past removal of the bolt (1:20). My bolt is not a hex-head, unfortunately - it's just a flat head screw; this is probably because my machine is a v1, circa 2002. Therefore, I have to use a slotted screwdriver. I don't think the gasket has ever been changed, and after 20+ years the screw is unmovable. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Um could you please explain @2:11 That brass plate or diffuser doesn't remove from my group head, it seems to be all one piece, I can't even see a separation or is mine fused? Yours detached effortlessly. I just stripped my machine so I was able to give it a good scrub. I cleaned out all the crud beneath the gasket, got in there with ozito, and after realized that what I thought was crud was actually the gasket spacer. lol Minus the spacer created more space and my portafilter had to be locked all the way to the far right in order to be tightly sealed so that no water will pass. You learn I guess. Cheers
My brass plate diffuser came off quite easily. However, my machine is nearly 2 years old. I'm not sure if you have an older machine if it is different (I doubt it though) or if it could be stuck in place due to the build up of crud...
when I disassembled it, I also thought that it consists of 1 part. but at some point it just fell off) apparently no one cleaned it for a long time at work. lol
Great vid, just what I needed to know. Also, do you think it's worth just cleaning the screen itself without replacing it every now and then? Obviously they get to a point where they need replacing anyway, but would giving it a quick clean at shorter intervals extend the period before it clogs up completely?
The shower screen can easily be cleaned by cooking it in water with Fairy or similar soap. Coking slowly for 15-30 min takes time to melt the coffee. This can also be done to the PORTAFILTER BASKET and other dirty parts. If some dirt does not come off, use a sharp needle to get the rest off.
Good question, I would gauge it over time and see how it holds up. So far, I have only changed the rubber seal once (and only for the purpose of this video). The shower screen doesn't seem to wear as quick...
Thanks for making these videos! I’m wondering, can you see any wear on the old shower screen? I’m just curious why and how they wear out. Greetings from the Netherlands!
I love a good, informative, useful video made by someone who has a soft, relaxing tone.
Glad it was helpful!
I came here after watching the 4wd video. You are a good teacher!!! Keep up the good work!!!!!
Awesome! Thank you!
I finally replaced my gasket today after 6 years. 😅 Excellent video, it made my job very easy!
Glad it helped!
I just replaced my gasket after 23 years on my v1 silvia 😂
Brilliant Marco! Just the instructional video I was looking for. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!

thanks for the video. I just got gasket replacement parts but no idea what to do with them, now I think I can manage it... maybe
Glad to hear.
I thought you have to use the beveled edge gasket for that type of shower screen? Thanks
Thanks for the awesome educational video!
Glad you liked it!

I would try a back flush with some espresso clean. It will likely losen up the build up keeping it tight.
Try applying a little wd-40 on the screw and let it work for a few minues but make sure you clean super well after?
Great clear video. Grazie, benne benne benne!
Thank you. This is exceptionally informative. Well done!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the clear instructions!
10/10 video!
Cheers, thank you.

@@NJSInstructional Yeah i too thought it was a case of older version. (V1) it is all one piece. Cheers buddy

Great one. I’ll be doing mine soon.
All the best!
Hello. Thank you for the video. Can you tell me does it work for old version of Rancilio Silvia? Thank you 🙏🏻
Hi, I believe all or most components of the Rancilio Silvia are both backward and forward compatible.
very informative thank you
Glad it was helpful!

Cheers, thank you. Yes, it's worth cleaning the screen every so often as well as the brass items / collars.
@@NJSInstructionalCool. Thanks for that. :)

Excellent video, learned a lot, also parts number a bonus 👍
Glad it helped!
Is there a model that doesn’t use a rubber casket? I can’t tell if the one I have is rubber or petrified.
Where did you buy the replacement steam gasket and orings from?
From a local coffee store, Coffee-A-Roma.
Great video, where do you purchase your valve gasket? Thanks
I purchased the items from Coffee-A-Roma.
How do u remove stains on the brass components of the group head
How often should you replace the shower heads/screen?

@@NJSInstructional thanks! Like how would I know if water dispersion or flow from the group head is like it’s supposed to be?
did you empty the boiler before turning up side down? if not, Im guessing it doesn"t leak??
I don't recall emptying the boiler...
Thanks a lot sir. That was really helpful and informative.
Thank you daddy ❤❤❤❤
Great video!
Are you worried about water in the boiler when turning the machine upside down?
It didn't seem to leak out when I did it...
Thanks for making these videos!
