That was incredibly helpful! Thank you! Especially the tips for getting a worn and solidified gasket out. The strategy with the screws worked perfectly!

Very helpful tips! Thanks! I was having trouble getting the group head gasket in. Use the portafilter!

Yup. Needed to self tap screws into my 10 year old group head gasket. Probably the only good thing to have come out of lockdown. Appreciated.

Thanks, the machine screws tip did the trick. First replacement in around a decade, so the old gasket was totally dead. Shots now taste so much better!

Thank you, very useful, I had no idea changing the gasket was so easy, I was just about to hunt out and Allen key. Saved me a lot of unnecessary disassembly!

Thanks for the video. I waited 16 years to change my gasket and clean the strainer. I had to use a drill to get my gasket out. When making espresso, the old gasket wasn't as big of a problem as the clogged strainer. Should of watched the video sooner.

Thanks for your great video. I followed it and was able to clean my group head and replace the shower screen and gasket with no problem. Two years old and I think I waited a bit too long.

Thanks for the walk through. I was one of those people who didn't replace the group gasket for years and had to use a dremel to remove it...I really don't recommend the experience. But once I got it out it was a piece of cake.

Thanks for the video. I just cleaned my screen after 2.5 years. It had some gunk in some of the holes, but was able to remove the gunk by soaking it in Cafiza for a few minutes and then using a toothpick to clean the holes. Fortunately, the front of the screen always stays clean because I use a soft baby bottle brush on it after each shot I brew. I still need to replace the gasket, but will have to order the part (not easy to find where I live).

Great point billinrio, although overall performance will not be affected if the gasket is flipped, it is always a good thing to insert it in the proper direction.

just changed mine after a few years. Quick tip for removing a stuck gasket- flip the machine upside down and using a screwdriver put a screw at a slight angle into the gasket. Screw it right into the rubber material. Once the screw has a good bite, just pull on the head of the screw with some pliers. Should pull the gasket right out.

Great tip! Just be careful not to scratch up the metal around the group head with the screw, if you care about keeping the metal scratch-free. Thanks for following!

thanks for this video, I just changed the gasket for the first time since buying machine probably at least 12 years ago - also used Cafiza to clean the bowl as well as the machine/back up into the boiler... exciting for a clean new experience!!

Great video! I am going to attempt this but I just wanted to ask a question first. Do I have to drain the boiler before I lay the machine on it's back? If so, what is the best way to do that? Thanks!

    • @Espressotec
      @Espressotec  9 лет назад +7

There is no need to drain the boiler before doing this. Simply have the water tank and drip tray removed.

Same here. Although I bought mine used so it's possible that the previous owner upgraded it.

I would add a teaspoon of espresso machine detergent to a cup of water and mix, then pour the solution into the grouphead until it fills. It will not leak into the machine unless the grouphead is overfilled with the cleaning solution. The 3-way valve should prevent the detergent from entering the boiler but as a pre-caution I would run a cup of water out of the grouphead before brewing.

You should note that the head gasket has a "top" and 'bottom' side. The bottom side has a slight bevel on its edge. The top side does not.

i have a version 2 (i think) the group spacer appears to be stuck in place, preventing removal of the gasket. the machine is about 13 years old

I used leatherman small knife blade to pop out the group spacer and eventually the gasket in 8 yr old Silvia.
