The screen will get a better cleaning, and less oily crud will be forced into being backflushed into the solenoid, if the screen assembly is removed and soaked in detergent separately, in a small tray. Then re-install and do the backflush as described here.

You should backflush it 2-3 times after finnishing brewing your last coffee for the day with water only. And backflush with an appropriate cleaning powder once per week. And on a monthly base you should be demounting the shower head and put all its components, as well as the portafilters with filter baskets into a cleaning solution to remove coffee fats which will otherwise be giving you a significantly harder time brewing properly.
hi SCG, really love to watch all your miss silvia tips, anw, i want to ask about cafiza. i have a cafiza that i bought 3 years ago, and the MFG stated 2014, can i still use it? or is it a bad idea? could you respond thiese questions?
Hello Gale; I've recently owned Rancilio Silvia and want to ask a simple question regarding with the cleaning or morning maintenance. I do clean the group head and showerscreen with my brush while poring water each time after I make espresso. Is it a bad thing to clean it with a brush each time?
Once you've backflushed with the 8-10 | 4- 5 times sequence should you also be bringing water back into the boiler using the hot water button/steam wand? Is there any danger of the boiler drying out if you don't?
How often do you have to backflush the machine? I just got one of these but she's an old gal, I think about 5 years old, but she brews a great coffee. I don't wan't to mess her up! Once a week? Once a month? Let me know!
As often as you clean bean oils from your grinder, lest stale or even rancid oil impart a noticeable flavor to the proceedings, One a month is best, quarterly is acceptable on the outside. No need to be OCD about this.
Alex Kovachevic It was an internal decision, nothing specific to the brand. Have you taken a look at our Rocket Espresso Line up? Both are made in Italy!
Seattle Coffee Gear Well - I actually bought the Gaggia Classic recently, and was told NOT to backflush by the people in the shop, since it damages the pump, but I found no mention of that issue on the web. I was looking for maintenance help, and found you have no "Gaggia" brand on your website :/
Great videos! I’ve watch them before every time I’m ready to clean. Does Gail know how humorous she is?! Love it!!

+federere2142 I second that :)
Q for SCG: is it preferable to backflush in the morning or in the evening and leave things to dry out overnight?
+Rastislav Stanik It dosen't really make a difference so long as you are backflushing! Cheers!

The pump is not active when steaming, that’s why you need to fill it up afterwards
Cold this go for a via vent sea but no back flush ing
how about descale?
I'm missing the rubber disc. Is there a way I can get a replacement?
just get a blind filter they are pretty cheap, and better than the disc
Me too! What exactly is a blind filter?

It depends on your usage, but we'd recommend backflushing with Cafiza once a week with normal home use.

Why don't you guys carry Gaggia?
Alex Kovachevic Thanks for the question! Unfortunately, we ran into issues when we previously carried the Gaggia brand and decided to discontinue.
Seattle Coffee Gear oh, really? what type of issues? :/

Alex Kovachevic Ah I see. Yes, we don't have any information regarding that! We did carry it quite awhile ago but since have stopped.
Marry me Gail!
