I've always considered the B.L.O.S.C. tv show the cannon show Buzz is from, it would make alot more sense, especially considering the time Andy would of grew up in, I love Sox, but Lightyear feels more like a parallel universe than anything cannon to Toy Story.
I believe that the ship that alternate Buzz found is an abandoned troop carrier for some kind of war going on in the galaxy. And the Zurg suit that we see is just a title of commander for the robot battalion which means there might be hundreds of Zurgs out there. And the leader of all those Zurgs must be the Emperor Zurg which is the one we see in Toy Story 2.
The simple answer is they wanted to make a cool new Buzz Lightyear movie to make moneys, and as a fun callback they decided to throw in the whole "this is that movie" thing as if it makes any sense at all... they should've just left that part out and had it be a spin-off based on the original Buzz Lightyear. Its just inconsistent in so many ways.
The director of the film also did an interview saying that the Buzz Lightyear toy is based off the animated series (that Disney pretends doesn't exist) that is a loose adaptation/spinoff of Lightyear.
How did I not notice that they say "buzzurg" (after having just finished the movie)?? Guess subtitles saying "Zurg" really influenced what I heard? Weird. Wonder what the official subtitles/captioning actually said.
I love your videos! Quick question that has nothing to do with the video, if someone saw another person falling into The Veil, would the first one be able to see thestrals?

I actually dig the idea that Zurg is Buzz' future self because not only does he represent the horrifying spitting image of himself falling off to the dark side out of his desperation to finish the mission. Also, if ever a sequel will happen, I think the second film is the perfect movie to introduce us to Warp Darkmatter or at least the origin incarnation of the character. I'd like to point that casting Chris Evans as Buzz is a perfect callback to his iconic role as Captain America but you know who I think is perfect for the voice of Warp Darkmatter? Ewan McGregor a.k.a Obi-Wan Kenobi himself!!! I mean it's perfect, hilarious and ironically brilliant! As Warp Darkmatter, Ewan providing his voice as Space Ranger cadet Warp who is so eager to learn from the best of the best until Zurg plants the seeds of doubt on him and turn him to his side rather than the animated series version of being a double agent all along. If ever Ewan McGregor will be casted as Warp Darkmatter, I can imagine his character wanting to learn from Buzz so desperately that he wants to prove himself which in a way makes him more aligned of Anakin Skywalker's personality
Zurg: Buzz!! Buzz: Zurg!! He appears in front of him but Agent Z attacks. Agent Z being up to him: It's over, Lightyear! I have the high ground! They fight for a while untill Buzz has the upper hand. Buzz: Like I said! You are under arrest!! Warp: Oh come on, buddy! That's not the way to treat on your future partner! Buzz: *WARP?!* Warp: Hello There!! :) At that very moment Warp touches Buzz's forehead using the Force (obvious Star Wars reference) and Buzz falls to the floor being barely conscious. Warp: Hey! Lightyear!! Guess what I have achieved right now? Buzz being truly sick and weak: Wh... What? Warp: *I have again the high ground!!* Muahahahaha!
Man, I'm really... REALLY hoping for a trilogy! That'd be awesome. Wouldn't they have been stuck on Tkani Prime for closer to 88 years than 60? About four years testing XL01, then Sox says he took 62 years to figure out crystallic fusion formula, then 22 years until they meet Izzy grown up.
The way I think it; Buzz traveled to the future enough times and encountered the real Zurg, who captured him, probed his mind to learn a series of things concerning Buzz's past on account they've faced off multiple times and Buzz always won. When Zurg learned of the time travel, he figured a way to finally rid himself of his archnemesis; Have Buzz kill himself in the past. So Zurg used some mind altering devices, turned Buzz evil, and even tampered with Buzz's memories so Buzz won't remember the encounter and have Buzz believe he is still trying to fix the past. He even sends disposable drones with Buzz back to the past and no memory of his encounter with the diabolical villain.
They had the cartoon series from the early 2000's so it''s likely that was the original Buzz and Lightyear is a remake similar to the live action Disney remakes.
My guess us that Zurg was a disgruntled space Ranger like Buzz wanted to be and maybe was the reason for Buzz's passion. However when Buzz went missing Zurg was angry at the Galactic alliance. So he rebelled against them, creating a whole army of robots. Thinking Buzz to be dead he becomes basically pure evil, like Darth Vader he loses who he used to be. Eventually Old Buzz finds the ship and one of Zurgs battle suits he wore in the early years of this War. Now Zurg may actually be dead at this point since Buzz was already really old. But it doesn't really matter anyway. Old Buzz steals the ship and takes over and enacts his plan to "save" the colony. He therefore alters the timeline ultimately stopping younger him fro making the same choices as he sees what he'll become of he does. Which ironically causes Buzz to ACTUALLY fulfill his mission and in doing so achieve his dream of becoming a space ranger. However. All that time passed and The Real Zurg us still waiting to enact his plan. And I bet that Buzz Zurg is going to find this out too and become a good son and fight his younger counter part. Maybe Young Buzz doesn't fond out till the 3rd movie who EMPORER Zurg is.
Minor detail : Zurg!Buzz was young when he found the ship, you can see the scene at 13:10. He "slowly" (you get what I mean?) aged in the ship while experimenting to make it travel through the past. But yeah Zurg could be dead since a long time ago, as Buzz (young or not) emerged from a time travelling ship
...and when old Buzz stole the suit from Zurg, it's a reason for him to seek and destroy the culprit and therefore becomes the new Galactic Alliance's sworn enemy!
1:15 That explains how the robots (Zyclops, as they're officialy calles) pronounce Zurg. If you listen closely, they actually say "B-Zurg" , the B- being the Zyclops trying to say Buzz, but they revert to their programming and say Zurg. Or Old Buzz told them that he's the original Zurg's _successor,_ which means they are calling him B-Zurg, or Zurg #2. Anyhow, I'm still gonna make a Zurg cosplay; got blueprints & everything! I just haven't started yet. I'm already working on a Venom cosplay...
That was a really round-a-bout way to tell the entirety of the internet what was essentially a "ha ha, I'm right!" Brag. Not that I can blame you, I'd probably do that same, honestly.
I have to say that, yes, there is still a real Zurg out there in the future, but also that robots are combining Buzz and Zurg together because you can clearly hear them say the B sound for Buzz before they say Zurg; ie, Buzzurg. Listen closely and you can hear it.
The Buzz video game from TS2 seems like it's based on the toy, not the movie given the design of Buzz. It's kind of like the Lego version of Star Wars.
I always wondered why the Buzz Lightyear in the video game looked more like the toy than the actual character depicted in the merchandise in the first film, but your explanation does make sense.
If that’s the human version of Zurg, imagine the actual Evil Emperor. If he’s not the real Zurg, then he’s actually Thanos’ father. (Or at least a variant of him)

A couple of issues This would mean that the next 2 movies of the trilogy would have a lot to set-up. They have to set up the Galactic Alliance (I had the same question of "What alliance?") reveal the real Zurg (btw, old Buzz not being the real Zurg makes the "not today, Zurg" callback feel even more shallow; the line felt goofy cuz he only met him that day, but it sounds like they've been lifelong enemies), have that Zurg be the sworn enemy of the Galactic Alliance, set up Buzz's father as an important figure, give Buzz a reason to believe that Zurg killed his dad, then reveal that Zurg is his dad (which would be a less fun twist that the "future" Buzz twist, but that's what happens when the twist in the first movie is meant to be a twist on the future movie's twist) Also, what about the 2D Buzz movie and series, where Buzz has a completely different team?
Hmm actually after the end scene I thought the technology belonged to old Buzz who wanted to arm the earlier version of himself against the youngest version of himself...
I really thought I did something there, the Buzz Lightyear box had a * next to Zurg and I was like ohhhhh, wait, what's that...then realized it was a toy box so it's probably just saying he's sold separately. 😂
Not sure if anyone else realized this while watchjng but that actual would makw sense as to why the dont question old buzz because he probably looks similar to buzz's dad and potentially sounds the same too
Oooh, and at one point Old Buzz can make a return in the supposed sequel to Lightyear, get's killed by the real Zurg, and that can be seen by Buzz, who knows his father is on the ship, and mistakes it as Zurg killing his father (since he already mistook Old Buzz for his dad before).... hence why the second Toy Buzz makes that claim to Toy Zurg in "Toy Story 2".
Believe it or not, the subtitles for LIGHTYEAR on Disney+ show the robots saying “B Zurg” as in Buzz Zurg or an alternate version of Zurg. Idk just wanted to point that out
1:29, in the original movie Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins, of which the Lightyear movie is a remake, Zurg is a sworn enemy of the Galactic Alliance.
I imagine the video game in Toy Story 2 is maybe something like the Lego video games. So it’s kind of a parody/more fun oriented version of the franchise. That could be an explanation, why the energy source was a battery and not the warp crystal from lightyear.
6:18, that could work if Lightyear were meant as the darker and grittier remake of Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins (which it was in the real world).
here's what i think so the Zurg we see in Lightyear is a minion of the actual Zurg but doesn't know it, the actual Zurg is mind controlling the "fake" Zurg
off topic note, there's a toystory 3 wii game, and theres an area where you can play through the game shown in the toystory 3 movie, and its very fun, ngl :] it was deffiently my favorite alongside the area for woody's roundup
As soon as old Buzz said the robots could only say "Zurg" it was a dead giveaway that he wasn't the real emperor Zurg. Sure the joke about being Buzz's dad in TS2 was for laughs, but again they're sorta based off Vader in SW so it's highly likely that's true
The Lightyear movie is completely wrong about the lore for Buzz and the galactic police force he is a part of considering what we got before it was made. Most of the lore was in the animated show though
9:52, if he were based on Wayne Knight’s Zurg instead of James Brolin’s Zurg it would make sense for him to lie about that because Wayne Knight’s Zurg did
So just gonna ignore everything Buzz Lightyear of Star Command did huh? Okay. I mean best Buzz related content out there but fine. BTW, director said Toy Buzz comes from the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command line. So you REALLY should have talked about the show
Actualy, there is another posibility on why the the bots are saying Zerg, and it still being a misprenonciation of Buzz. that being that Buzz is also his fathers name, and that the buzz we know was named after his father.
I imagine if they do a sequel. Zurg is still alive when he tried to open his armor he discovered his body is gone when the Explosion to the crystalic fusion Vaporized his body but his mind enter his programming.
I think that it's more plausible that Buzz mistook old Buzz for this dad because most fathers look like older versions of their kids I also that Old Buzz was injured badly in the explosion so the suite changed it's self to become a life support system, like an iron lung, witch he can never leave. this drove him even farther over the edge and as the GA was formed by the Rangers big Z made preparations in the shadows then started to conker planets.
I think Zerg is like Slimer: Ghostbusters movie(s) and the “Real Ghostbusters” show(s) are very different, but both have Slimer, just like Lightyear and “Buzz Lightyear of Star Command” are very different, but both shows (that Andy presumably watched).
Buzz Lightyear had an entire TV show, complete with a film that introduced the characters - most of which aren't in the Lightyear film. And Zurg was a part of that. Aaand you're apparently ignoring that and pretending Lightyear was the first time we've seen Zurg since TS2.
I started seeing Christmas themed ads on Halloween after 8pm. ...keep in mind I am not saying that is when they started, only that this is when I personally started seeing them.
There's a small detail I think your missing that may explain the origin of Zergs' name. His chest plate not only has a Z but also has a small lightning bolt coming off of the tail end of the letter. Maybe his name is an image representing Buzz Light-years name in remembrance of his son. Perhaps some event happens in the future to buzz that causes his father to seek revenge on the Galactic Alliance.
The robots could still be saying a corruption of Buzz. We don't know for sure that Buzz's father didn't take the name Zurg as his cool space name. Buzz could just be Buzz II.
Got a better one; there is a Robocop cartoon that is far more lighthearted than the movie. Likely the toy is based off a possible cartoon that was not that accurate to the movie
I have a theory that to me makes sense and that Disney would obviously never do since it’s pretty dark and gruesome. So buzz’s dad is a space ranger as well going on a mission involving a wormhole, so naturally something goes wrong is wormed out into uncharted space and is left adrift in the void, where eventually he’s encountered by the LGMs but by those little grubs and robo brains, like in the animated series, where they find him barely clinging to life so they take him experiment on him to see what he is and eventually they cut out his brain, put it in a machine , specifically the Zurg body hoping to make a man machine hybrid only for it to backfire which leads to him turning on the grubs and brains and from there forcing them to do is biding where he still sees himself as a space ranger but rather than meet new species and planets as an explorer, he decides to just conquer them purely based on the what was done to him before he got his brain cut out

There's a Buzz Lightyear show, where Zurg simply said he was his father to quickly gain the upper hand in a fight.
That’s an underrated show
I believe that the ship that alternate Buzz found is an abandoned troop carrier for some kind of war going on in the galaxy.
Source please?
How did I not notice that they say "buzzurg" (after having just finished the movie)?? Guess subtitles saying "Zurg" really influenced what I heard? Weird. Wonder what the official subtitles/captioning actually said.
I love your videos! Quick question that has nothing to do with the video, if someone saw another person falling into The Veil, would the first one be able to see thestrals?
I can actually defend Zurg not being Buzz's father. Since they're the same person, he basically is. I don't mind the twist except that it's completely stolen from Lego Movie 2. They literally have the same "But I'm me" exchange.
wait yeah it really is
Lightyear’s reveal was much cooler than the LEGO movie, and much more enjoyable
@@TheGameMaster777 Not a Lego Movie fan? Personally I love all of them except the Ninjago one, but if you don't, that's fine. And if you are a fan, I must be confusing you.
@@coolnerdlll6053
I just don't like that kind of making fun of itself unless it's Deadpool (or She-Hulk) with his (or her) 4th wall breaks.
Those are really funny.
The Lego movie 2 also isn’t the first to do it, Lightyear still isn’t the best movie though
Lightyear in a Nutshell: You thought it was your handsome chad Zurg! But it was me! Buzz Lightyear!
Nice
Zurg: Buzz!!
Buzz: Zurg!!
He appears in front of him but Agent Z attacks.
Agent Z being up to him: It's over, Lightyear! I have the high ground!
They fight for a while untill Buzz has the upper hand.
Buzz: Like I said! You are under arrest!!
Warp: Oh come on, buddy! That's not the way to treat on your future partner!
Buzz: *WARP?!*
Warp: Hello There!! :)
At that very moment Warp touches Buzz's forehead using the Force (obvious Star Wars reference) and Buzz falls to the floor being barely conscious.
Warp: Hey!
The way I think it;
Buzz traveled to the future enough times and encountered the real Zurg, who captured him, probed his mind to learn a series of things concerning Buzz's past on account they've faced off multiple times and Buzz always won.
I felt like Lightyear was more like a remake of whatever movie the toy was *actually* based on
They had the cartoon series from the early 2000's so it''s likely that was the original Buzz and Lightyear is a remake similar to the live action Disney remakes.
@@youdontknowsponge6218 Oh that’s a good thought. I like that
@@ameliabrown3987 yeah. The Buzz toy is based on the Star Command cartoon.
I remember the cartoon as well. Fits Toy Story better than the Light year film. Unless there is a sequel.
But yeah Zurg could be dead since a long time ago, as Buzz (young or not) emerged from a time travelling ship
...and when old Buzz stole the suit from Zurg, it's a reason for him to seek and destroy the culprit and therefore becomes the new Galactic Alliance's sworn enemy!
please do a series where Neville is the chosen one. love your videos !
👍
That was a really round-a-bout way to tell the entirety of the internet what was essentially a "ha ha, I'm right!" Brag.
Not that I can blame you, I'd probably do that same, honestly.
I have to say that, yes, there is still a real Zurg out there in the future, but also that robots are combining Buzz and Zurg together because you can clearly hear them say the B sound for Buzz before they say Zurg; ie, Buzzurg. Listen closely and you can hear it.
Personally, I'm imagining a 'screw-the-grandma' scenario where Buzz is his own father.
Like futurama
@@nathanmacrae9199 That's where we get the term 'screw the grandma', or if you would prefer, a 'grandmother loop'
Guys this is a kids movie after all! 😅🤣

I have been waiitng for this video for sooooo long! So happy to see it!
I'd like to see how buzz lightyear star command fits into all of this
Luke's "I could do this all day" was just TOO CUTE!
2:25, they had an episode of Buzz Lightyear of Star Command based on that premise. It’s called The Planet Destroyer.
A couple of issues
This would mean that the next 2 movies of the trilogy would have a lot to set-up. They have to set up the Galactic Alliance (I had the same question of "What alliance?") reveal the real Zurg (btw, old Buzz not being the real Zurg makes the "not today, Zurg" callback feel even more shallow; the line felt goofy cuz he only met him that day, but it sounds like they've been lifelong enemies), have that Zurg be the sworn enemy of the Galactic Alliance, set up Buzz's father as an important figure, give Buzz a reason to believe that Zurg killed his dad, then reveal that Zurg is his dad (which would be a less fun twist that the "future" Buzz twist, but that's what happens when the twist in the first movie is meant to be a twist on the future movie's twist)
Also, what about the 2D Buzz movie and series, where Buzz has a completely different team?
2D show is no longer canon due to the CGI movie. Meta-explanation is that it is a crossover between the movie(s?) and Pizza Planet
Not sure if anyone else realized this while watchjng but that actual would makw sense as to why the dont question old buzz because he probably looks similar to buzz's dad and potentially sounds the same too
I really do want a new Buzz Lightyear movie
Idk just wanted to point that out
I like this idea very much! I loved the movie, but disliked the Buzz is Zurg twist, and it soured the movie somewhat!
1:29, in the original movie Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins, of which the Lightyear movie is a remake, Zurg is a sworn enemy of the Galactic Alliance.
Day 40 of asking Supercarlinbrothers to please bring back google auto fill videos!!
Yes! I loved those.
Also fun detail, the galactic alliance is also a star wars faction, it was the successor to the new Republic in legends.
I imagine the video game in Toy Story 2 is maybe something like the Lego video games. So it’s kind of a parody/more fun oriented version of the franchise. That could be an explanation, why the energy source was a battery and not the warp crystal from lightyear.
Dude, I’m so interested to see what the real Zurg looks like in the Lightyear universe 🚀
THIS Theory is [CONFIRMED] !
6:18, that could work if Lightyear were meant as the darker and grittier remake of Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins (which it was in the real world).
My question for you is, if Tim Allen was the voice of older Buzz, would that make the film more enjoyable to some?
here's what i think
so the Zurg we see in Lightyear is a minion of the actual Zurg but doesn't know it, the actual Zurg is mind controlling the "fake" Zurg
off topic note, there's a toystory 3 wii game, and theres an area where you can play through the game shown in the toystory 3 movie, and its very fun, ngl :] it was deffiently my favorite alongside the area for woody's roundup
9:52, if he were based on Wayne Knight’s Zurg instead of James Brolin’s Zurg it would make sense for him to lie about that because Wayne Knight’s Zurg did
In Toy Story 1 Buzz mentions crystalic fusion, and I quote “Are you still using fossil fuels or have you discovered Crystalic Fusion?”
I've said the exact same thing! The evil alternate timeline Buzz basically Roy Burns-ed Zurg's identity!!
I actually liked Old Buzz as a villain. He had some good lines and I love the design of the Zurg suit.
Does Olf Nuzz survive in film?
@@hackman669 Yes. There's an end credits scene that shows that he's still alive.
@@rpmguy648 Alright, good old Buzz is back!! He could be useful.

“The guy who made it confirmed it btw”
So just gonna ignore everything Buzz Lightyear of Star Command did huh? Okay. I mean best Buzz related content out there but fine.
BTW, director said Toy Buzz comes from the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command line. So you REALLY should have talked about the show
First I’ve seen that their biggest evidence pint is “I got it confirmed on twitter”
J: here is a whole video to support my argument
Also J: brought receipts
Idea for a future SCB video/series
What happens to the wizarding world if Harry attended a muggle school instead of hogwarts?
Plus, the differences between the two Zurgs. One is left handed and has legs, while the other is right handed and the wierd dress.
I think that it's more plausible that Buzz mistook old Buzz for this dad because most fathers look like older versions of their kids
I also that Old Buzz was injured badly in the explosion so the suite changed it's self to become a life support system, like an iron lung, witch he can never leave. this drove him even farther over the edge and as the GA was formed by the Rangers big Z made preparations in the shadows then started to conker planets.
I think Zerg is like Slimer:
Ghostbusters movie(s) and the “Real Ghostbusters” show(s) are very different, but both have Slimer, just like Lightyear and “Buzz Lightyear of Star Command” are very different, but both shows (that Andy presumably watched).
In the sequel to lightyear we'll likely get the origin of the real Zurg,Maybe being an Artificial intelligence gone rogue?
Unpopular opinion but I genuinely liked this movie. Just found it really fun and I liked how they worked in his equipment in a cool and logical way.
I didn’t know there was a post credit scene in lightyear
Question how do the scream canisters in the background of the storage room tie in? 🤔
Zurg
Personally think the cartoon series they came out with in the 90’s was much better than the lightyear movie was.
3 minutes of promotions so this was actually only an 11 minute video, so happy I have vanced
12:19, probably a reference to Warp Darkmatter’s code name
First off this is a prequel and second the galactic alliance is established at the END of the movie.
Love the idea that Zurg programmed his robots to, for no reason whatsoever, just say "Zurg" repeatedly.
He did say he borrowed the ship, so this means that he’s not the real Zurg
0:31, in the cartoon Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, it’s revealed that Zurg was lying when he said that.
I have a theory that to me makes sense and that Disney would obviously never do since it’s pretty dark and gruesome. So buzz’s dad is a space ranger as well going on a mission involving a wormhole, so naturally something goes wrong is wormed out into uncharted space and is left adrift in the void, where eventually he’s encountered by the LGMs but by those little grubs and robo brains, like in the animated series, where they find him barely clinging to life so they take him experiment on him to see what he is and eventually they cut out his brain, put it in a machine , specifically the Zurg body hoping to make a man machine hybrid only for it to backfire which leads to him turning on the grubs and brains and from there forcing them to do is biding where he still sees himself as a space ranger but rather than meet new species and planets as an explorer, he decides to just conquer them purely based on the what was done to him before he got his brain cut out
Luke: I could do this all day.
Me: So could I, Luke. So could I.
I'm glad if this theory is true because like you said I was expecting it to be his dad and it ending up not being on the movie really bugged me
9:32, the cartoon from 2001 to 2002 revealed that Zurg was lying when he said that
Yep I had no idea this was a thing. I have not even seen the new Lightyear movie. This is an interesting video as all of your content is (I must say) I am not that sure I care if they resolve the issues you bring into the light! or the next Lightyear movie? well we will just be patient, and wait to see. . . . Have yourselves a grand day!
I’m not counting the movie “Lightyear” as canon to the character of Buzz Lightyear, I count the “Buzz Lightyear of Star Command” Movie / TV Series as canon.
