You need to do the original version sung by Iva as well. He’s voice is soothing to the soul 👍
Iva Davies wrote this and sang it with Icehouse and it was the best. Iva has a knack to write meaningful lyrics that reach everyone’s soul with his amazing soothing voice. Musically he is a genius.
Please do
I wish someone hadn't stolen my House of Colours tape when I went overseas in 1995... the tape player in my ('found. Side of the road in the rain, can not be destroyed however') dope stereo system (with working tape player and graphic equaliser); still plays tapes. My tape recorder collection is slowly disintegrating faster unfortunately.
Agree, so much more soul from Iva, please do the original. It's better.
@@melissanoyb haven't heard of their House of Colours album, was that a bootleg? ;-)
Man of Colours is definitely a brilliant album.
David Bowie was a huge fan of Icehouse as singer Iva Davies had a similar style voice. They are one of a rare bunch of bands to support Bowie more than once and toured with the Glass Spider Tour throughout UK and Europe. Icehouse have many great songs and are sometimes overlooked when mentioned among the many great bands from OZ
Icehouse is my favourite Aussie band in the 80s, relaxing and meaningful music. Love this band. Life would have been difficult without their music. Heals the soul.
& I‘ve just got to say, back in the 1980s, Icehouse’s heyday, Iva Davies was already 40 years old & has always been an absolutely stunning looking man on top of his musical genius. Rock god & real music during an era of formulaic machine music on the charts.
Man of Colours got me through the end of high school
@love's Child got me through 'preteen family violence' experiences. I'm pretty relieved to hear others echoing 'Icehouse helps mental health' comments. 🤗❤️🌈
Michael Paynter has a phenomenal voice and has tried so hard to break through as an artist. He has the talent, but the right opportunity hasn’t come along. He’s got the full package though and it is hard to fathom. I think he’s amazing
at least Iva's supporting him
Yes !! We love Michael Paynter... and of course Icehouse... thank you so much Nick !! Yes... this is Icehouse (Iva Davies band) and they asked Michael to join as their backup keyboardist/guitarist/vocalist for this tour and then they kept him !! Iva writes all of their tracks and has done since they formed in 1977. Legendary Aussie group... and musicians... we LOVE them...
Don’t Believe Anymore is another beautiful haunting song that the amazing Iva sings. My absolute favourite 😍
Beautiful version, however please listen to the original with Iva Davis ( oboe player) singing the original. Icehouse is the name of the band that Iva leads. All their songs are beautiful, haunting and musically outstanding and I think you will love them all!
I've never heard of him, but wow what a voice!! I loved Icehouse as a youngster, "Crazy" and "Electric Blue" were two of my favourite songs of theirs.
Electric blue 💙💙💙💙
The Man of Colours album was THE album of my teenage years and holy cow Michael nailed it.
The band is Icehouse one of the iconic Australian bands. Micheal Paynter has joined the band for a number of years.
The song is one of Icehouse's biggest 80s hits.
Icehouse - Hey little girl! A must!
Icehouse are my favourite band of all time! Followed closely by Hoodoo Gurus :)
Iva Davies is one talented musician. On the album, Man of Colours, he recorded every instrument and sang vocals. Now you will have to do "Great Southern Land" by Icehouse. Its a definite Australian anthem that every Aussie knows. "Crazy" is also top notch.
I was lucky enough to be at this very concert and I was so so surprised ! I had never heard of him and man of colours has been a life long fave song of mine. I was 5 years old when it came out in 1987. I didn’t know what to expect when Iva introduced him and I was blown away. Did the song justice , never forget that night ! Thank you to whoever requested this song !! ❤️❤️❤️ would kill to have a voice like Michaels !
I have followed Michael for years , he is an amazing talent.
And I can never not listen to this song when I see it ♥
I was also at this concert or one in the same series at The Enmore. As soon as the guitar playing began I had shivers, by the end of the song I had tears. This is my favourite live performance ever, I came home and played the video so many times. Michael’s voice is extraordinary, such emotional and clarity. You really had to be there to see this live, you could have heard a pin drop such was the silence of the audience. The oboe just added that bit more.
Iva Davies is the lead singer of IceHouse and The original version of Man of Colours is sung by Iva. Icehouse has some great songs like Great Southern Land, Crazy and the pop hit Electric Blue.
Dont Believe Anymore is my fave.
@@lesleyking4059 yes that’s an awesome song! One of my faves! Forgot about that one
Yaaaas! Been waiting for a Man of Colours reaction. Iva is the lead singer of Icehouse, this is his song, and your reaction is perfect, I always put this on when I need to feel calm (the original is probably more gentle and calming than this even). Man of Colours doesn't even get enough love here in Australia, glad you loved it.
You need to check out the original Electric Blue video just for Iva's epic mullet alone 😄
Icehouse are one of our absolute best bands. Their original name was Flowers and their self-titled album is a classic. Iva Davies is the older guy in this clip and he is a virtuoso
Icehouse are a great band, been around for a while (35+ years) the album man if colours is quality. Also my mum had a crush on the singer/guitarist/oboe player Iva Davies lol yeah all the band is icehouse and young fella special guest
Who didn't have a crush on him
@@Areyousayingidontknowmyname hahah 🤣
@@Areyousayingidontknowmyname I didn't, I had Debbie Harry on the wall and Pamela Anderson.
Everyone had a crush on Iva !
Michael is a much cemented member of the current Icehouse line-up for past 10 years
I was at this concert , Icehouse are amazing , I have been going to their concerts since the 80's....so many amazing songs ....well worth looking into
I sure I have watched this reaction a dozen times already!!!!
Love Micheal Paynter and love your reaction discovering his amazing talent always puts asmile on my face ❤️
Love the CRISPY bit 🤣🤣🤣
Love Iva Davies. Icehouse came out of a band called Flowers. So many good songs like Sister, Crazy, We Can Get Together, Hey Little Girl, Miss Divine etc.
How have you not mentioned Iva's obsession .... Great Southern Land :p
Icehouse with Paynter singing Touch The Fire 🔥 must watch!!!!!
Nick, you made my day in doing my request. My Dad has just gone into palliative care and I can't tell you how perfect the timing was for you to react to my request today. A huge thank you for the love you gave this performance - it was so nice to think it could be used to ease your anxieties as well. You're right tho - deserves to be clotheslined for that pure voice 😂😂❤️
So sorry to hear Kylie, hope your Dad gets some peace from this song too.
@@nicolaj3294 thank you Nicola, that’s very kind of you. That’s one of the things we have in common - our love of music ❤️
play as much as you can for him, Kylie, I can guarantee you'll find whole new ways to connect spirits. Peace and love.
@@missjayemau thanks so much! What a beautiful community to have this kind of sincere kindness for others. Much appreciated!
This is my favourite Icehouse song, and it is absolutely magic when you see it live!
First time I've even heard of this Michael Paynter.
What a magnificent voice!
Seriously, watch him sing Touch The Fire just for the insane high note alone! You literally just scrolled past the live version at the end there - It's AMAZING!
The older grey headed fella at the end is Iva Davies, the original singer of Icehouse. This song was off the Man of Colours album released in 1987 a very good album that spawned quite a few hit songs in Australia including Electric Blue, Crazy, My Obsession, Nothing too serious and this track. No Michael Paynter is not a member of Icehouse but appeared at this performance.
Ian, Michael IS, indeed, a member now of Icehouse and has been for nearly 10 years playing live with them.
@@terrimoz09 Sorry about that I am 57 so getting old, never heard of him and didn't know that as I haven't been following current music for maybe 15 years or so. He has a good voice but for me Iva Davies fronts Icehouse as he did for the 25 years or so I listened to them.
I was sceptical of this Michael Paynter led rendition, til I saw Icehouse play a year ago. It was almost a spiritual experience. Spine shivering.
You've discovered Icehouse... happy dance 💃
This is one of my all time favourite songs from the 80's. This song has always had a powerful effect. It takes you to a place you didn't know you needed to go.
If you get a chance, check out the official video of Man of Colours. The imagery compliments the lyrics perfectly. Love your reactions.
I love your videos.
Many of the Aussie acts, like Icehouse, Cold Chisel and John Farnham were part of my soundtrack growing up.
The Best of Icehouse was one of our road trip cassettes. I Don't Believe Any More and Electric Blue are my favourites.
On another note, Icehouse have some really good sax solos on their stuff recorded in the 80s.
icehouse was originally named Flowers and their first album was actually known as Icehouse after which the band renamed themselves as Icehouse and released their 2nd album Flowers ... check out their own anthem hit Great Southern Land next ... musically n vocally it will blow your mind Dominick ... Tony
Great Southern land always gives me chills, absolutely love that song
You really need to do some vintage icehouse 💕 Iva Davies brilliant composer and vocalist. This was amazing and he has an awesome voice but must admit I keep flashing back to the og and Iva! ❤️
Omg you've discovered Icehouse...
So glad you are reacting to this one!
Micheal Paynter and diesel are both severely under-rated as singers in Australia. Glad that you ard making and effort to share these amazing guys with the world 🌎
Love your work ❤
So happy you have witnessed this magic ♥
Michael is amazing
Touch the Fire with Paynter on backup vocals is actually kind of insane.
indeed it is ♥
It’s a brilliant rendition
Ice house was a great band and very popular.. Michael should have made it bigger than he did. His voice is amazing.
One of the best songs ever with a stunning voice…..
How I look forward to your reaction videos! I’ve given up any others. Love Icehouse, Iva Davies so talented, this is one of his best songs, but you just found another whole rabbit hole to go down, they have a great songbook.
Icehouse is a great Aussie band and this is their song/hit.. Its just a version of it featuring Michael
Seamless falsetto transition & amazing plus interesting vibrato. Happy place, that's for sure.
I'm diggin the astro boy shirt, gotta love bein an 80's baby
Amen to that!
Michael Paynter is an extraordinary singer and musician.
That was amazing. Michael has an amazing voice. Icehouse is an incredible band and their song "electric blue" is one of my all time favourite songs 🎵 💙
Michael Paynters voice is spine tingling this version of “Man of Colours” is amazing 💚💚💚
This is stunningly good. Thank you for reminding me how much I love Icehouse. When I saw that the Lead featured 'someone not Iva' I struggled to make myself listen to it - because - How can Man of Colours BE Man of Colours' without Iva's distinctive vocal? Well - THIS is how. Blown away by Michael's performance. He really honored the original while adding so much more!
Loved it, and so good to see Iva step in with the Oboe too. Iva is not only the Lead & foundation touchstone of this group but a Master Songwriter/ Composer alse - giving us enduring hit after hit after hit.
Wow that may be the best song you have ever had on your channel. I had to go listen to it again...wow!!!
One of my fav icehouse performances !!! Michael is amazing 😍😍😍
It hits me in the heart too🤗🙏❤️ he sounds very ethereal😇🌏🪐🍀🌕🙏🦋🌸🇦🇺👣🦉🏡🌴⭐⭐⭐🌹
Icehouse is one of my fav. bands from the 80s. I was lucky enough to see this version (with Michael) a few years ago in a smallish country town in Australia - brilliant night!
Definitely check out the original version of the (and the whole "Man of Colours" album). Iva Davies is an absolute legend.
I've seen this live and it is spine tingling!! Yeah bro, Icehouse is basically Iva Davies and Michael is one of his session players... He's incredibly talented.
I was there in the Evan Theatre at Panthers, and this song sounded even better live! Iva Davis on the clarinet is the leader of the band Icehouse, and sang the original song when it was released 41 years ago!!! It was #1 on the Australian charts for an amazing 11 weeks. An Australian classic :)
I feel so patriotic listening to you love this Australian band/song/artists. Lucky enough to see this live. Literal chills
Cant wait to see Icehouse early next year in Adelaide. Such a great band.
One of my favourite Icehouse songs. I’ve never heard of Michael Paynter. Great performance.
Wow, how great was that. I know icehouse grew up watching them live but have not had the pleasure of listening to Michael Paynter before. What a song 10/10 for this old song and your reaction
Grew up listening to Icehouse and of all their classic songs, this was always my favourite. Lyrics and arrangement just beautiful and moving. Hadn't heard this version before but it was brilliant.
I saw Icehouse live in concert in New Zealand, 31 years ago. One of the best nights of my young life. Four hour set. They sounded EXACTLY as good in-person, as they did on vinyl/in the studio. I love how Iva Davies (original vocal lead and songwriter) worked alongside Michael Paynter, on this more recent, acoustic version. I think that Michael joined them as a special guest for their 40 Years anniversary tour. Iva Davies spoke of how having Michael join him on vocals was like trying to keep a new puppy under control - Michael's vocal range is just that high. TFS your thoughts. I love it whenever I see Icehouse getting some love beyond their native land, Australia. They truly are a hidden treasure.
You should watch the 40th anniversary version of this song. Michael Paynter is bulked up and a much more refined singer. Probably about a 5 year difference. It would blow your mind.
Saw them live in Bendigo Australia last month for only the second time since 1984 when I was 23. They were brilliant still. Made me feel young again, just so good.
Australian Talent is endless
So glad you hear us xx
24 million population is all we have but OMG!
original is spine chilling.
Surely you know Icehouse by now!
I've always like that song !!!
Michael Paynter 😍 Love Icehouse 😍✨
Wow! Wow! Wow! I am an Aussie and have seen Icehouse live and loved their music for years. Decades. Yet I’ve never heard this rendition or @michaelpaynter and it is so, so amazing. Watching your reactions has bought me to so many new (previously unheard by me) arrangements and new artists, it is such a great pleasure. But this one nought me to tears with it’s perfect fragility. Thank you, Nick. Thank you most of all, @ivadavies. #icehouse #manofcolours
It’s a haunting version. Love it
Iva Davies the guy that introduced him. Iva was the lead singer in ice house and you need to listen to his early version to compare both are amazing but Iva is In a league of his own
I am an Aussie,Thank you Nick,I am ashamed to say I had never heard of Michael until now, what a sensational voice.I love Iva Davies and I hope you can do a reaction to his great Anthem...Great Southern Land.
I love you Nick! and so does the rest of Australia you are so interesting.
Ice house is a classic Aussie band from the (i want to say 80's). Michael is a guest on stage I believe. The original is this song is phenomenal too.
Icehouse are a great band. Although they have heaps of awesome songs, there is one song that could be classed as another Aussie anthem would be "Great Southern Land". Iva Davies has a voice like smooth velvet. Another rabbit hole. Enjoy. ✌
Iva Davies - one of Australia’s most brilliant all round musicians. A fabulous voice, songwriter and instrumentalist.
Just.... WOW!!
Ivor Davies is an amazing singer and song writer, his band Ice House were a great Aussie band in the 80's with many hits.......
I grew up with that song and loved it… but this version is RIDICULOUS!! Just pure feeling, emotion and class! Playlist for sure.. thanks for waking up an Aussie to this one. 🙏🙏👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺
Oh I haven’t even watched it but this version of this song is on my favourites list! Those voices!
My very first album I ever brought and this song makes me get goosebumps still 🙏❤️🇦🇺
Magic
Love Michael Paynter
Yesssssssssss man. what a talented dude!
I've lost count on how many times i've watched this reaction :) :)
this is absolutely magical! it reaches into my soul !!! thankyou thankyou thankyou for introducing me to this version of the song , your reaction was fabulous lol , now im going down the rabbit hole of watching all your reviews
Back again here for more Michael & Icehouse ✨♥️♥️
Love your reactions bro, keep up the good work. I for one don’t mind when you pause or should I say “Pows” the video, lol. As many times as you can say “Pows” by all means do so. I can’t get enough, lol! As for Michael Paynter, this is the first time hearing him for me. You’re right, he had a great voice. Thank you for shining some light on him. He has a sort of Steve Perry-ish sounding voice. The best way I can describe it is to day that it really cuts, really makes you take notice! I’ll definitely be listening to more of his stuff. Once again, keep up the good work! ✌🏻
We got to get you to Australia to meet all these people you cover here. That would be some awesome content right there. P.S Iva is a legend in his own right. Mind blowingly good performer in his day.
Iva Davies is the guy who played the obo and then sang a bit, he's from the band Icehouse who you simply must look into. The song is Man of Colours so beautiful, speaks to your soul especially if you're an artist like me. No Promises showcases Iva's voice to perfection but Great Southern Land and Crazy are 2 really good songs to start with other than this one. Oh and look up Great Southern Land at the the Sydney 2000 New Year's Eve fireworks display in Sydney...just mind blowing!
That was incredible
The forty Year anniversary concert version is even better.. great band and yes Michael is the icehouse.. I mean icing on the cake.
This has to be one of the best icehouse songs as well as the kingdom, both of these songs were performed perfectly at the zoo twilights here in Melbourne, both of these songs with IVA and Michael's voices, just blew me away. It's haunting, yet energetic and positive, gives me the chills, I'm glad that you reacted like that, you really appreciate great vocal and lyrical talent!
I saw Icehouse in Sydney...... but it was in about 88 or 89..... a long time before this. Great band, Iva Davies is seriously talented..... as is this Michael Paynter. I want to give this a standing ovation.
Michael very much reminds me of John Farnham, he even has that range. Turns out he has actually covered Burn For You.
Glad you did icehouse, my equal favourite band, the older guy is the lead singer IVA Davis who is also gifted with a great voice, take a look at Great Southern land by icehouse, the young Einstein movie version is best, possible my favourite song of all, enjoy this group they have alot of hits.
Iva Davies - another of our legends from Australia. He is one of our greatest songwriters. Iva Davies and Icehouse are still going strong and are in a league of their own.
It was Michael's choice which of the original Ice House songs he wanted to sing. Ice House many years ago was called Flowers. If you haven't already, Great Southern Land is an iconic Ice House/Aussie song.
The older guy, Ivor Davies, the song was a huge hit for Icehouse
This song is held in such reverence by Icehouse fans. We thought that nobody could do it better than Iva. Michael has put his own unique spin on it. I love when Iva sings the second part. Watch the official video and you'll see Iva's father who is the painter.
I love your reactions in these videos. Especially this one!!! I felt the exact same way when I first heard this. I always feel frustrated when other people don’t share the same passion as me or I can’t express what I feel when I hear these singers. I’m on another planet when I hear performances like this. We’re definitely on the same page brother. Love it ❤️
That was so beautifully done .Icehouse have many orginally crafted songs .Stunning .
1 of our best not well known singers but brilliant and Nick I'm going to clothesline u as u have bought an Aussie singer to me and I am Australian, sooooo good, bro awsome
The world needs to see and hear this 🙌
I have one question. Who can sing this Song better than Michael ??? Absolute great.
