I feel so ignorant not knowing that a lot of these singers/artists are from Australia so I can only apologise for that. But Australia is absolutely stacked with amazing singers. Who is your favourite singer from Australia?
Singer Brian Johnson is Scottish and has never taken up residence in Australia. He replaced original singer Bon Scott who died in 1980. Bon told the band members that if anything happened to prevent home singing, Brian would be the perfect replacement.
This has just scratched the surface. Nick Cave, AC/DC, INXS, The Saints, Cold Chisel, The Divinyls, Silverchair, The Easybeats, Dragon, Savage Garden, Midnight Oil, Icehouse and so on. And yes, Keith Urban is very big in the US Country music scene and comes from Australia. have fun.
Wow I really have so much research to do. Thanks for the list will for sure check out these. Can't wait to find out about them all and hear their music. I have heard Savage Garden before actually. I remember they had a few big songs in the UK I think in either 90s/00's
How can you not know that Olivia Newton John is Australian? She even plays an Australian in Grease...in fact if go so far as saying she was famously Australian...RIP to a beautiful soul 💖💖💖
Yeah that is a shocker from my to be fair. I guess I have never really seen any interviews or anything with her. I only really know her from Grease (I last seen that when I was a kid) but I just assumed they were all American in that. Will need to revisit it I think. For sure RIP
Olivia Newton John was born in Cambridge, but moved to Australia aged 5. Her dad was a Professor who went to work at Melbourne University, hence the move.
I'm surprised no-one mentioned Wolfmother. They were huge in the 00's. Australia was a great place for music in the 80's & 90's. There was live music in pubs, clubs and theatres.
Wolfmother were pretty good but what ruined them I think was their live performances, I only saw them once myself and they were pretty terrible, thought you know, not everyone can be perfect every day but I have heard consistently from others that they were bad live and you know how it is, here if your live show isn't up to scratch then you are gonna struggle
I have heard of the name AC/DC but never heard any of their stuff. When I was at school I just listen to house music and rap music so rock was never really my thing but as I got older my musical interest has definitely expanded.
Australia - for a population of a land mass the same or bigger than the US - with a population of 26 million - we 'stack' it in everything! Music, sport, science, discoveries etc.
Keith Urban was born in New Zealand and still travels on a New Zealand passport. However, his family did move to Aussie as a young child. He said he just never got around to getting an Aussie passport. same as Russel Crow. Born in NZ but considers himself an Aussie but also still travels on a New Zealand passport.
This video looked at Australian artists that went overseas. Two of the biggest groups to go international were The Seekers and the Bee Gees. John Farnham never looked at going overseas, except when he took over as lead singer for Australia's Little River Band.
Guy Sebastian was our first competition representative at Eurovision (we had been there the year before as a guest act, but not in the comp). This was to celebrate 30+ years of it being broadcast here by SBS TV, (since 1983 in fact) I believe the longest of any broadcaster outside Europe. We have had Aussies at Eurovision before (including Olivia who represented the UK), also consider this list of Aussies at Eurovision competing for other countries: Gina G (for UK - Ooh Aah Just a Little Bit). Don't forget also a band called INXS!
Jimmy Barnes is Scottish born. His family immigrated to Australia when he was around 5 ( I think ). He was/is the front man for the band Cold Chisel. And also has an amazing solo career. Many people wrongly think that all he does is scream. In actual fact he has an amazing range and has a fantastically powerful voice.
Actually, he really does scream. So much so he has damaged the horizontal line in his voice. You can really hear it when he talks. Such a shame because he DID have a beautiful singing voice but he abused it.
I'm surprised he always kept a bit of his accent, Bon Scott came out a little later and his accent was pure Aussie, so was Angus and Malcolm....they even had like an Aussie drawl.
John Farnham is super huge in Australia and was also fairly well known in the UK and Europe in the 80s and 90s ...but not well known in the US, where this list was probably made. He tried cracking the US when he was younger and also when he was with Little River Band and he never really got a foothold. And by the time he had become hugely successful in Australia he had had enough of touring and trying to make it big overseas...he hated being away from his home and his family and was just happy to stay here. He filled arena after arena...there was no need to go overseas. He didn't care about the fame or the money.
You won’t see the best singers on this list as they didn’t go international (John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes) - the big international names from Australia that come to my mind are:- - AC/DC - INXS - Kylie Minogue - Bee Gees (sort of half English) - The Seekers - Keith Urban - Hugh Jackman (sings and acts) - Savage Garden - SIA - Olivia Newton John

A little bit of history regarding Australia' entertainment artists. Back in the 1950s when the only records available came into Australia from overseas artists, Australian artists had to work their buts off to sound exactly like the records to gain local support - I was one of them in the 60s. We were virtually ignored until The Seekers and Easybeats put the first holes in the wall when they hit the top in the UK and elsewhere. More often than not, the recording artists who visited Australia to perform didn't sound anything like their records, as in many cases the recordings had been over-dubbed to hide the faults/failures. To cut the story short, it was during the 70s when Olivia-Newton-John, The BeeGees,, Helen Reddy, Dave Allen and others took America by storm, that Australia suddenly lit up like a new sun and it's been shining brighter and brighter ever since. This all happened when the Aussie artists started touring the world and singing/performing live, sounding exactly as they did on their records. There is a book worth reading, although not for the faint hearted, titled 'Saved by the Light of the Buddha Within' - it tells a whole lot more about what I have mentioned.
This list is more about artists that would be known overseas, even though John Farnham is a great singer and well-loved in Australia he never really did the international thing. Same for many great Aussie bands like the Saints, Icehouse, The Church, and so many others.
Farnsey will always be number 1. Guy Sebastian has amazing vocal skills. Matt Corby is incredible. Try Brother. The Living End are still the best punk rockabilly band. Two hits are Prisoner of Society and Final Solution but Wake Up is ahead of its time👍 Hein Cooper- The Art of Escape, Rusty, Invincible, Hear My Voice or Like That. 👍👍 Tash Sultana, Gang of Youths, Jet, Hilltop Hoods, The Divinyls, Daryl Braithwaite, The Church-'Under the Milky Way', Nick Cave and the Badseeds, The Black Sorrows, Crowded House, Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunipingu, Powderfinger- 'These Days', INXS, Yothu Yindi, The Rockmelons and Deni Hines, Goanna-'Solid Rock', Redgum, GANGgajang-'Sounds of Then', Icehouse-'Great Southern Land', Russell Morris- 'The Real Thing', Men at Work, Mental as Anything.
Wow thanks Elizabeth I really appreciate you taking the time to make this list. That is very comprehensive and really shows an immense amount of talent from Australia. Going to look forward to working my way through these. Thanks again!!
Impressive list of bands/singers but most of them aren't well known outside Australia (apart from INXS, Jet, The Church, Divynals), so everyone who listens to them KNOWS they're from Australia. I thought the list could have included The Bee Gees, Silverchair, The Little River Band and Rose Tattoo.
You HAVE to listen to original acdc with Bon Scott as lead. There is no way you can't know their music! And as you are Scottish, you have to look up "Long Way to the Top if you Wanna Rock n Roll". You will see why when you watch it 😊 ..... Iconic film clip of the band playing on the flatbed of a truck in downtown Melbourne. Angus Young on lead guitar is one of the best known australian lead guitarists in the world.
At first after watching your show l thought “ where the hell have you been” but then l realised how far apart we are (Aus and UK), these days. When l arrived here in 1969 everything on tv was English, tv shows, music show adverts, but slowly they all disappeared and our tv became more American ( sadly). I recently started to watch the UK quiz show Tipping Point, it was then l realised how little l know now about my home country, l felt quiet like an idiot not being able to answer many of the questions just as your now learning about Australia.
Three of the original AC/DC members were Scottish born, Malcolm, Angus and Bon, so feel free to be proud of them. In fact, Bon was nicknamed “the Bonnie Scot”
Impossible to pick a favourite. If you put a gun to my head I might say Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds. I think you'd enjoy Guy Sebastian and Tina Arena, you noticed in this compilation they both have exceptional voices.
If you are going to listen to AC/DC, they did one song featuring bagpipes! It is "It's a Long Way to the Top". There are two videos of it on YT, one on the streets of Melbourne and the other on an Australian pop show (which is harder to find, but the sound & video quality is much better). John Farnham does an amazing version of this song too, minus the bagpipes!!!
Crowded House, despite Neil Finn being a Kiwi made it big here ( in Oz) and key ban member Nick Seymour is a proud south coast Victorian. His brother being Mark Seymour of the Australian band Hunters and Collectors. Just got back from 'A day on the Green' in Geelong with The Waifs ( Australian) Angus and Julia Stone ( Australian) and the Crowdies playing in torrential, muddy, sodden, soaked to my bones rain.
Hi Mat, Michael from Australia here. Great to see all the recommendations below. The parents of AC/DC Emigrated from Scotland to Australia. Also if you want to see one of Australia's greatest female vocalists, check out Vanessa Amorosi. Vanessa toured in the UK and across the US and was quite successful. I recommend you watch her performance live on Dave Stewarts show. Dave was the Lead guitarist for the Eurythmics.
One of the best music vids to listen to is Qantas - I Still Call Australia Home. Also we are up there when it comes to inventions, inventions that have helped the world in so many ways - you'd have to find a complete list because there are so many and they are so big. Good work Mat
Someone else mentioned the Qantas ad, so will definitely need to check that out. Would also be very interested to know about the inventions. Will need to see if I can see a video about it. I am from Scotland so I am also very proud of inventions from there too. Thanks Heather, appreciate it
@@MertAus Speaking of Qantas, Australia and inventions, it was an Aussie, David Warren that invented the flight box recorder that is found in aircraft.
Jimmy Barnes, Cold Chisel, Diesel, Crowded House just to name a few. The Main Event is a concert featuring John Farnham, Olivia Newton John and Anthony Warlow. Classic Jack is a John Farnham concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Search on RUclips for Australian singers and groups.
Not knowing AC/DC is like not knowing The Beatles. This is the band that took the roll out of Rock and Roll to just rock. They were the first rock band ever and are still touring to massive sellout crowds wherever they perform.
I am hugely disappointed in myself for not knowing that. Someone in the comments told me some of their members are from Glasgow - which is where I from. I just wasn't interested in rock music at all growing up but I am definitely a lot more open minded about music now.
@@MertAus Don’t be disappointed in yourself, how are u expected to know where everyone is from, even I, an Aussie didn’t know an actor in USA TV Series, The Mentalist was Aus until I heard him in an interview lol, my jaw dropped. I always thought Brian Johnston AC/DC was Scottish, but has a Geordie accent from England. I know my ancestors are from Glasgow Scotland as I was born a Stuart and have/had red hair, a senior now lol. My sister is a genealogist so we can’t make up stories about our ancestors lol.
We have a massive pub scene where the bands earn their stripes and go on to bigger and better, it’s great for us and them. I remember seeing bands like ACDC playing at Iceland in Ringwood well before they cracked the international market.
There used to be a cultural cringe where some artists overseas downplayed the fact they were Australian, then came Frank Ifield "I remember you" a cover from the 40's I think, The Seekers, and The Easybeats, of "Friday on my mind fame", to name a few in the 60's. I'm not sure but think Frank might have scraped in at the 50's too. The list Michelle has, below, covers quite a few Australian artists who have become very successful overseas, (an impressive list at that). Rob E. G. the lapsteel, and also pedal steel player, had some success in the US. Also Peter Allen "I go to Rio". I am sure there is a lot more Michelle and I, and others in here haven't added...either way, as an Aussie, I'm proud of them all, including the rap artists (and I can't stand rap crap), so that's high praise from me. I feel a hundred years old dragging some of those old singers out of thin air. Bee Gees too.
In Grease, Olivia speaks with an Australian accent and says she’s from Australia. Did you not believe her? LOL! She was a singer first and only did a few acting roles.
You and the majority of the world know little of the Australian music scene so don't be too hard on yourself. We do punch above our weight regarding musical talent. Some of my favourites are : Vanessa Amorosi (The female equal to John Farnham). the Teskey Brothers, The Black Sorrows, Hunters and Collectors, Jenny Morris, Anthony Warlow ... for a start.
Lots of great pop singers migrated to Australia in the 1950s & 60s as 'Ten Pound Poms' - John Farnham, Olivia Newton-John, The Bee Gees, John Paul Young, The Easybeats, Jimmy Barnes, AC-DC (who when their lead singer died replaced him with a Scottish singer seen in that clip). Many more too.
Daniel Johns, Silverchair, Flume, Vera Blue, The Veronicas, Thelma Plum, Troye Sivan, Sarah Blasko, The Temper Trap, The Waifs, Josh Pyke, Augie March, Boy and Bear, Ben Lee, Empire of the Sun, Nick Cave, Tim Minchin
So…the Australian “Emmy’s” are named for the middle name of the inventor of the Television. John “Logie” Baird, thus our yearly TV awards are “The Logies”, because we “dinna forget wer roots”
Missed a shit load on that. silverchair, John Farnham, midnight oil, diesel. Many more. Delta G was on Neighbours, they made her a singing student and deliberately launched her career from that, by doing her 1st song on Neighbours. I myself cannot stand her. Keith was on American Idol as a judge, but resides out of Nashville USA. Guy Sebastian won Australian Idol. We have MANY who did Australian Idol and are very successful now. Gotye(Wally Debacker) is actually from Belgium himself but is Aussie living.
I was looking at this list, and only heard of a few of these. Natalie Imbruglia barely had success in the US, as the US division of her recording label didn't really want to sign or promote her here. Iggy Azalea got her initial exposure in the US dueting with Arianna Grande. Not much has been heard from her in several years. I grew up listening to Olivia Newton John, and she was considered Australian, as she lived most of her life there, and was an Australian citizen. She was born in England, where she also had citizenship. She lived out her remaining years of her life in the US, but was not a citizen of the US. Tina Arena came out in the 90's, and she was successful in most of the world, but barely promoted in the US. I personally thought she sounded too much like Celine Dion. The few interviews she gave to MTV and VH1 USA, that I thought she was way too stuck up. Though she's technically not a one hit or here, Chains was her only major hit, and Show Me Heaven barely cracked the top 40. Keith Urban was someone I didn't know was considered Australian, as he was born in New Zealand. He does hold citizenship to New Zealand, Australia, and the United States. I wonder if he had Australian citizenship prior to marrying Nicole Kidman, or after marrying Nicole Kidman. Though I'm getting off topic, but Nicole Kidman has dual US and Australian citizenship, due to being born in Hawaii, to Australian parents. I was shocked to hear Gotye was Australian. I thought he was Belgian. He was promoted as being from Belgium in the US. Tomes and I has only had 1 hit in the US. Sia has had music success on and off since 1993, mostly in the UK and Australia. Her success in North America is only in the last nearly 15 years, as she has stage fright, and a fear of being too well known. She prefers to mostly work behind the scenes, but has recorded her own songs, because she feels she's got songs that must be heard that no other artists want to record, because the other artists rejected certain songs. Kylie Minogue has been around since the 80's, starting with her cover of The Locomotion. In the US, that was her only hit, as I Should Be Lucky didn't get heavy promotion here by her US label. It wasn't until Can't Get You Outta My Head got leaked to US radio stations in 2002 before she returned to the US. Her second album in the US was not promoted at all, and her US label dropped her. That second album had a duet with her then boyfriend Jason Donovan, that was to help him get a US recording deal. If it was supposed to be with Geffen Records (Kylie's US label), that was dashed, and Kylie was out of the North American spotlight throughout the late 80's and all of the 90's. Not on this list, but there's Little River Band from the 70's, Divinyls from the 80's to the death of Chrissy Amphlett. Outside of Australia, I Touch Myself was their only hit. Savage Garden was a great group, but sad that after just 2 albums, the group broke up. Another group that was formed in Australia, but only one member is true Australian, is Air Supply. Graham Russell is British, while Russell Hitchcock was born and raised in Australia. Air Supply actually had more success in the US than Australia and UK combined.
I think the list might’ve been made by an American as they are only just discovering Australian 70's and 80's artists and musicians who were hidden away from the rest of the world and developed along their own cultural pathway of those times. John Farnham is considered the most powerful and enduring artist in Oz and was still going strong into his 70's. The you tube American React To.......sites are just embarking on Oz music history.
John Farnham was actually born in Essex, England. His family came to Australia when he was ten. The same with Olivia Newton John, who was born in Cambridge, England and emigrated to Australia when she was six. Keith Urban was born in New Zealand too. They all became naturalized Aussies.
Most Aussies are only a generation or 2 away from English Scottish or Irish heritage. So if you grew up here in Aus you're and Aussie . All these muso's could have gone back to their land of birth but chose Aussie land as their home. Except maybe Keith and Nicole they don't seem to spend much time in Australia anymore.
Well done Laddie. You have featured only a MINISCULE amount of Aussie music to the World. You will probably be blown away to know that Rufus Du Sol are also Aussies!!. Ever heard of "Friday on my mind"?... Aussies. A large part of the "English" music scene have been Aussies, from the 50s. Ever heard of Frank Ifield?, well your Granny would have. Considering "Aussies" have been coming from England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland for the past 240 years, and still are, its no wonder we all sound familiar to you. (same as the North Americans Euro peoples). Come for a visit, bring a hat, we sell good sunscreen, and meet yer cousins.😛
The Tones and I hit song Dance Monkey is written about when she was busking, there was a regular heckler that bothered her while performing that kept saying 'dance monkey' a hit song from a pretty poor situation.
Farnsy probably isn't on the list simpy because he chose to keep his career focused in Australia, and so he is not so well known overseas. A simply search for reactions to any of his songs by RUclipsrs outside of Australia show how much they were surprised at how great a singer he is, and that they themselves had never heard of him.
Nice thanks for letting me know. That makes sense. I actually respect that he chose to just focus is career on Australia. I am so glad to have found out about him and can't wait to hear more of his music
Probably being Australian isn’t a big marketing advantage. Maaaate, I can’t believe you haven’t got onto AC DC . If you want to know how big they were watch something from their live concert at River Plate in Argentina, preferably Highway to Hell, which is about a road here in Perth called Canning Highway. Great entrance by ANGUS Young and great vision of the “small” crowd of enthusiastic fans…. 😉 Anything but Thunderstruck which every reaction channel seems to latch onto….
AC/DC I will definitely check out. They are probably the one's on the list I am most embarrassed about not knowing as people in the comments told me they are from the same city as me - Glasgow. I cannot believe I did not know that. I was just never really into rock music at all when I was younger and if I was it was more like Oasis and Stone Roses, etc. Will need to check out some of AC/DC's stuff
@@MertAus 3 of the original line up are from Scotland but they came to Australia as kids and started the band here. Anyway, you'll love 'em It is interesting that the original vocalist, Bon Scott, died and his replacement, Brian Johnson, was a perfect fit. People thought it was all over for them when Bon died. You might want to go back to the Bon Scott era as well. He was brilliant. He's buried in East Fremantle cemetery in Perth and they installed a gate right near his grave so fans have easy access. There's also a statue of him in Fremantle which is where Canning Highway starts. Highway to Hell was about the drive up Canning Highway from Fremantle, where Bon lived for a time, to a pub called The Raffles which was a well known music venue in Perth.
@@MertAus the original lead singer of AC-DC was born in Forfar in Angus so check out a long way to the top with Bon it was the first ever rock song with Bagpipes

John Farnham isn't big outside of Australia. This list is people who are big outside of Australia and people don't know that they are Australian. Most people know John Farnham is Australian if they know his music.
I know, it's because when they sing they suddenly have an american accent. Lot's of them singers do adopt the american inflections when they sing and I never get why the need to do that ... ;-)
Johnny Farnham is not on the list because he is the forerunner and inspiration for all the others. Johnny Farnham is the Voice and a "True Australian Boy"
Australian is in born here or came to live here when young ? Bee Gees - not born here Keith Urban - as above As with most, unless they go overseas they dont get known.
I think this list of music were ones that were recognised overseas. John Farnham made a choice not to go overseas and remain in Australia which is probably why he wasn't on this list.
Hahaha ... I only know (some of) these names because I am an Aussie so I see news about them but many of these I wouldn't ever come across in my "old school" peregrinations, so don't feel embarrassed ... Keith Urban is married to another famous Aussie, Nicole Kidman. Have you watched the "Still call Australia Home" Qantas ad yet? It has Hugh Jackman and Kylie Minogue for starters. The Vance Joy one is a bit of a misdirect, because it's a Paul Simon song ... the break out song was "Riptide" I think, which you may have heard. Not having John Farnham is not surprising, as John chose to stay mostly in Australia once he had a family and horses. Surprised INXS weren't mentioned though. Keep 'em coming!
haha that makes me feel better thanks. Oh cool I didn't know Keith Urban was married to Nicole Kidman. I actually knew she was Aussie actually. I think I probably know a lot more Aussie actors than singers now that I think about it. I have not seen that add but will defo check it out soon.
Many of these on this list are actually from the UK originally; John Farnham, Olivia Newton-John, ACDC (or Acca Dacca, as we also like to call them!), The Bee Gees, not on this list but also from the UK. Jimmy Barnes, the front man from Cold Chisel, is from Glasgow, Scotland. You should check out ACDC's 'Long Way to the Top' where they include an element of their Scottish origins and then 'Live in the River Plate Argentina 2009'. That was a big one!
These scat are British is a stretch (Bee Gees excluded) they may have been born in the IK about grew up Australian and their musical careers started there. The Members of AC DC met in an immigration camp in the 60’s and their entomology is linked with The Easy Beats (the older Young brother being in that band). If these bands are from the UK the “English” cricket team is in big trouble…
I know everyone is listing off great Australian performers and rightly so, I’m proud of so many of them, but if the category is singers/bands you didn’t know were from Australia, I think most people globally realise Nick Cave and AC/DC are Australian.
Tina Arena started off as a child performer on a show called "Young Talent Time". Dannie Minogue, Kylie's sister was also a child performer on that show. Tina lived in France for many years and is well known there, but she has done a few things in Britain. She was the subject of "This Is Your Life" in Australia on Monday night.
Keith Urban grew up in Caboolture, Queensland, Australia before he made it big by going overseas- he now lives in the USA I think- an Aussie boy born and bred ❤🇦🇺
@@jonwaldron900 - thanks - I just found he was born in NZ but his parents moved to Caboolture Queensland when he was 2 years of age and he got his start in the music industry here - my mistake on where born but lived since 2 years old in Australia before he headed overseas and made it big - he has always considered himself Australian but I would think being a born Kiwi, he would be proud of that too 👍🏻🇦🇺
You missed the point, I was living in the UK when The Seekers were in their prime - virtually everyone knew they were Aussie musicians, it’s not about great Aussie bands, it’s about the misconceptions about Australian artists. Although I concede a lot of people might think Hilltop Hoods are English/Kiwis.
You really should know about AC/DC, they’re Scottish immigrants to Australia. 😂 Three of the boys came to Australia as kids with their parents from Scotland. They picked up Bon Scott (original singer) in Perth, Western Australia and became AC/DC. Bon later died from choking on his vomit after a big night. There’s a great movie about it.
A lot of people in the comments just rattling off the names of Australian acts. But the category requires them to be (a) internationally known and (b) not widely known to be Australian. That disqualifies your favourite obscure Australian act that never had an international hit, but also hugely famous acts that are also famously Australian (eg, Men at Work and Rolf Harris would not belong on this list)
Most of the comments mentioning random artists or bands, are suggesting them to this dude to check out Aussie music rather than rely on the tossers who made this & the Aussie top 30 songs etc.
John Farnham is top, he is older now, though has sang with Olivia Newton John, Ray Charles, Tom Jones, Celine Dion, and is respected by so many quality Artists. John was asked to Join Queen when they lost Freddie, but he was a family man and didn't want to leave his wife and son's for too long. Although he toured Australia many times, and many famous people came to Australia to work with him. His song "Burn for you" is about missing his wife when he toured Australia, back in the day. He has such an extensive range and vocal ability he can sing anything and does sing as across so many genres of music it's amazing. I think you would like Guy Sebastian, well known in Australia, amazing voice and songwriter, he is a judge on the voice Australia, always great music. Cheers, thanks for your great reactions.
I love your enthusiasm and appreciation for John Farnham. You really need to check out the following videos: 1. Please Don't Ask Me - John Farnham & Olivia Newton John (1998) from a concert called the Main Event, 2. John Farnham - Black dog (Led Zeppelin cover) - Black Dog was John's sound check and warm up song 3. John Farnham & Jimmy Barnes - 'When Something Is Wrong With My Baby Hey Hey It's Saturday'. Jimmy Barnes, Scottish born Australian singer, was the lead singer of Cold Chisel and the song features Jimmy Barnes' brother-in-law, Diesel, on guitar. You’ve only just grazed the tip of the iceberg.
Matt Corby - Brother Live for Like a Version, Vera Blue - Hold Live for Like a Version, Tash Sultana - Jungle bedroom recording would all be good to have a look at. None really known outside of Australia but all great.

Yes. Australia is stacked with amazing singers. Couldn't possibly put all of them in one video.

This video looked at Australian artists that went overseas. Two of the biggest groups to go international were The Seekers and the Bee Gees. John Farnham never looked at going overseas, except when he took over as lead singer for Australia's Little River Band.
Mad props to Johnny Farnham. He’ll always be a national treasure

In his early days, in CC, he really did sing properly. Beautiful voice actually.
Yes, he does have a great voice. In the early 90's he did a soul album called Soul Deep, which was amazing, probably some of his best work.
Actually, he really does scream. So much so he has damaged the horizontal line in his voice. You can really hear it when he talks.
Such a shame because he DID have a beautiful singing voice but he abused it.
How can people think he screams, he is always in tune. I don't think you can scream in tune. I agree with you grest range and entertainer
I'm surprised he always kept a bit of his accent, Bon Scott came out a little later and his accent was pure Aussie, so was Angus and Malcolm....they even had like an Aussie drawl.

Paul Kelly great Australian music John Farnham a legend
John Farnham is super huge in Australia and was also fairly well known in the UK and Europe in the 80s and 90s ...but not well known in the US, where this list was probably made.
He tried cracking the US when he was younger and also when he was with Little River Band and he never really got a foothold. And by the time he had become hugely successful in Australia he had had enough of touring and trying to make it big overseas...he hated being away from his home and his family and was just happy to stay here. He filled arena after arena...there was no need to go overseas. He didn't care about the fame or the money.
He was so good ,he had nothing to prove to anyone.
John Farnham was classed as "too old" when he tried to break into to USA market. Sitting on their taste with that.
You won’t see the best singers on this list as they didn’t go international (John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes) - the big international names from Australia that come to my mind are:-
- AC/DC
- INXS
- Kylie Minogue
- Bee Gees (sort of half English)
- The Seekers

- Hugh Jackman (sings and acts)
- Savage Garden
- SIA

Sia? You haven't heard Sia's songs??? All in good humour. Luv this vid! Greeting from Adelaide, South Australia (where Sia is from)
Names you should search for: John Farnham (my favourite Aussie), Human Nature, Jimmy Barnes, Vanessa Amorosi, Tina Arena, and the late Peter Allen.
This list is more about artists that would be known overseas, even though John Farnham is a great singer and well-loved in Australia he never really did the international thing. Same for many great Aussie bands like the Saints, Icehouse, The Church, and so many others.
John Farnham was born in Dagenham UK and grew up in Australia, just like the Bee Gees lol.

John Farnham is very unwell at the moment, hopefully he will be getting better soon and bring his beautiful voice back to us. ❤

You should react to some Delta Goodrem (Enough) and Guy Sebastian (Believer). Both amazing Australian vocalists.

React to their live performance, it's insane
We have a massive pub scene where the bands earn their stripes and go on to bigger and better, it’s great for us and them. I remember seeing bands like ACDC playing at Iceland in Ringwood well before they cracked the international market.
We had..
50 cents extra to see AC/DC, loved Iceland.
I remember seeing johnny'O Keele in live pub in Brisbane sooo many yrs ago..I'm 80 and still remember it..he was also great but very sad demise.

You'll now have to listen to Jimmy Barnes (recently in his late 60's), rendition of Chandeliers ! That will blow you away !

You might want to go back to the Bon Scott era as well. He was brilliant. He's buried in East Fremantle cemetery in Perth and they installed a gate right near his grave so fans have easy access.

You should do a reaction to Australian actors / movie stars - that will shock you. Hollywood loves Australian actors, re their training back here.
Guy Sebastian is someone that I would love for you to react to
A lot of people in the comments just rattling off the names of Australian acts.
His life flashed before his eyes when Tame Impala came on
Listen to The Tesky Brothers, they’re one of the best bands at the moment
You will need to do so many more videos to find out who is from Australia. So so many & all kinds of music.
Matt Corby - Brother Live for Like a Version, Vera Blue - Hold Live for Like a Version, Tash Sultana - Jungle bedroom recording would all be good to have a look at. None really known outside of Australia but all great.
Awesome will definitely check them out Felicity. Appreciate the suggestions
Brother by Matt Corby. Its insane and will bring tears to your eyes from his talent!
Another vote for Matt Corby and 'Brother'. From the first notes you'll realise that he's a huge talent, but just wait for the climax.....
IGNORANCE is great here
You need to listen to Tina Arena Chains.
Ok now we have to get you to check out a beautiful duet with Olivia Newton John and John Farnham who were great mates from The Main Event. Also my fav singer in Australia right now is Guy Sebastian. Awesome singer/songwriter.
