Of course some twits went and dug up something he did and didn't know that it was a rule he had broken? Mainly because they came up with it as a reaction to something he or another gun guy did? I'm just guessing but I imagine I'm not far off.
"I don't have the ammo to troubleshoot Springfield's issue." If that's not a come to jesus statement, I dunno what is. I appreciate this kind of honest style, it's looking companies straight in the face and telling them to stop fucking beta testing on us. If only we had a Garand Thumb in the video game world.
Okay, So let me see if I've got this right... Springfield Armory is selling their take on the FN Browning Hi Power for $699.00 that you can actually use up until about the 750 to 800 round count before you have to send it out to a Custom Shop to have everything that's typically Springfield Armory either repaired and/or replaced, then upgraded. This should only cost another $400.00 to $700.00, right? Perhaps Springfield Armory would have actually been better off, at least for the consumers if they had completed their under the table deal with their Mobster Politicians in Illinois. Then we could expect a p.o.s. like this from them right out of the gate. Well, here in this video you have witnessed first hand why I have a collection of Smith & Wesson Firearms, all of which have been issue free since arriving from the factory as is the case with my Colt's Manufacturing 1911 collection, the same case with all of my Kimber 1911's and the rifles we own from the same fore mentioned companies. Thank God my Wife loves her 14rd EDC Beretta PX4 Storm SubCompact and never took a second look at the Hellcat and as for myself, my S&W M&P M2.0 Compact 9mm with her 3.6" Barrel and her 17rd magazines will remain in place, keeping my appendix warm.
Used the Hi-Power in the Finnish defence forces. There was a joke that the only way to make it hurt someone was to throw it at them. It was however a fine pistol and the rumours of it's lack of accuracy and reliability were mostly on the user due to lack of training.
I understand. I had three variants in the past. A original MK3 in 40S&W with a conversion barrel in .357Sig. A Hungarian FEG clone and a early none cast Argentine FM copy. Wouldn't mind one of these if they get the bugs worked out.
Of every pistol I've ever owned, the Browning Hi-Power Englis was my absolute favorite. It was a training pistol so it was rode hard and put up wet, with the worst finish you could ever have. It never jammed once with the thousands of rounds I ran through it. However there's nothing tight about it. I'm sure Springfield has a tough act to follow.
Hope they fix fte. Price looks amazing, I had a $199 Hungarian special high power, and out of the maybe 100 pistols I've owned it was one of my favorites. Really want to get one of these
I bought the FEG clone in the late 90s also and it’s one of my favorites. It came with the custom features that I wanted on my “real” Hi Power such as the round hammer, extended safety, extended slide stop and a much better trigger pull. Eventually I sold the Belgian gun Hungarian one and not just because my family came from 🇭🇺.
Looks like the parts wernt properly washed or dryed before the bluing process. I worked at savage arms near the bluing room and we had to wash all components and leave to dry. Looks like there might have been oil still on the parts during the process.
Always wash and degrease parts and let air dry before blueing, let dry and wash off with cold water and the polish with oil....and if was sandblasted can get a lot darker blueing depending on how you prepare the part or parts
I have loved the High Power since my uncle (RIP Uncle Steve) gifted me one of his pre-war GP-35's and an M1A on my 18th birthday in '05. I got a number of his weapons when he passed but those two will always hold a special place in my heart. Great vid GT, keep it up 👍
Good to hear about the extractor issues. Price gouging on these pistols right now is bullshit. I'll wait until I can get one for MSRP. For the perfect improved hi-power clone, buy a CZ-75.
I was excited about the SA-35, as my grandfather brought home a german-stamped one from WWII, but I'm not gonna support an outfit that can't produce a version of an 80+ year old design that works. CZ it is
I've owned a MKIII for over 20 years. My only issue was the cheap plastic grips. It always shot beautifully, when I was younger. As I got older the sights seem to have shrunk quite a bit. I'm happy to see that SA is resurrecting this classic and hope they sort it out. Thanks GT for the fun to watch video!
My father's Hi Power was the first center fire I ever fired....after cleaning the thing for 9 years. He carried it on the sheriff's department for 27 years and it passed to me when he passed away. I still shoot it upon occasion. Still think it's the most comfortable pistol I ever had.
My dad gave me a Hi Power when I turned 16 and got my drivers license to keep in the glove box of my first car 1984 Monte Carlo...I joined the Army and left two weeks after graduation from high school..10 years goes by he had stored my car in his garage...I came back home in 2000 and was going through some of his old stuff and cleaning out the garage and moved my old car out and it was still in the glove box...it now sits in my coveted underwear drawer
The fact that the Browning Hi-Power is back in mass production just reinforces my prediction that we are indeed getting the Fallout franchise future...dunno how I feel about that.
I've always wanted a Hi-Power, but they were always really hard to come by, and when you did find one, the price was astronomical. I'm glad to see that it is back in production. By the time I've saved enough money for one, the bugs should be worked out by Springfield and I am SO looking forward to that moment!
Alternatively you can get an FEG produced, Hungarian Hi Power. They're direct clones and they have a pretty good track record and you can find them for like $300-500. My only complaint with mine is that the frame and slide have a little more slop than I'd like but it's been 100% reliable so far.
@@MonacleZebra The FEG ones are almost non-existent in Canada. Most of the ones we see here are either surplus from the Canadian military (we are just getting a new service pistol now; used the same Hi-Powers since WW2), or Turkish clones. Nothing wrong with the Turkish guns, but it just isn't the same....
It's just like buying anything else: Never get the first production run. I don't need the first one off the line I just want one that works great and looks good.
I never understand the rush to get the 'new' thing that pushes people to pay 3x the MSRP for what are supposed to be budget guns. Especially on something like Kel-tecs.
@@MandoWookie Well I mean, if no one was buying the first runs, the companies would probably consider them commercial failures, and cease production. Nothing gets made forever anyway.
@@gregoryholland6126 Not arguing with you but I think what Grumpy Greg (great name btw) is getting at are the people who just HAVE to have one of the first and run out and buy it or order it as soon as it comes out. Frankly, I'm with him with that thinking with vehicles and other things along with firearms. Look at Century arms and their "All American Made" AK's...the RAS 47 and the VSKA. There were some horrible issues with the trunnions to the point that it made them dangerous. Tim on the Military Arms Channel and the AK Operators Union did some videos on just how bad they were. I'm all for exercising some patience and giving it a bit before I spend my hard earned cash on something. I might be wrong, but I think that is what Greg was getting at. Again, I agree with him.
Hey that definitely brings me back to my use with the browning hi power when contracting with the republic out in the Mojave. Kinda got shot in the head by one when I started but dont let my survival fool you the 9mm pistol was able to dish out a lot of hate and take away many HP there at the beginning! Very informative video! Many such cases!
As I've said else where. Having used the Browning as a service pistol for some of my time in, I never had an issue with a Fail to Extract. Fail to feeds and double feeds (attributed to work out and beat up mags..... after all the pistol used by The Canadian Military are of original vintage). The extractor issue makes me very hesitant. Murphy's law being such, means that issue is going to happen at the worse possible time. I'll stick with my original Inglis made and some of those new Mecgar made mags please. Great video as usual. All praise the Flannal Daddy
@@signs80 They are fixing by replacing the damn things. Sig won the competition with the 320 but Glock has whined enough that it is going back to competition because they didn't meet the requirements and were kicked out immediately.
I've been watching your channel for the last 2 years, but I just now came across this one because I've gotten interested in the Springfield SA35. I have to tell you, your videos are unique among the guntubers and always entertaining! Been subscribed since the first of your videos that I watched.
SA Marketing Guy: "This one is going to the biggest GunTuber, shouldn't you give it an extra close inspection?" SA QC Guy: "Are questioning my diligence! Everything that passes my dept is good to go!" SA Marketing Guy: "Ok, Ok, take it easy man."
Great video! Currently, we have a never-shot customer's SA-35 with SN 13xx and we managed to shoot half a magazine through it before the first FTE. Just like ours (and as far as I can see the one you're using in your video) the gun was ejecting the brass at the 2-3ft and that's definitely not optimal for a Hi-Power. The one we started the test with is SN 6xx.
@BHSpringSolutions LLC From what this guy described, I’m betting the extraction issue is the same on that you encountered on the first SA-35 you tested. The slide serrations interfering with the extractor and it’s spring. Hopefully, Springfield will change the order in which it does the serrations and extractor channel to avoid this problem.
My SA-35 is in the 13XX SN range as well. I had 2 FTE in the first 40 rounds using Blazer Brass 115g. I bought it because it's a historical platform in the gun world and I've always wanted one, but sounds like this is an ongoing issue, at least in the early models. Thinking I may off-load it and maybe try to pick one later down the road when hopefully Springfield has worked out the issue!
I carried the Browning HP for 7 years in Colombia. I used Cylinder and Slide to install the coco-bolo grips and the ring hammer and the lanyard bolt. That gun went bang every time I pulled the trigger ... used Mecgar mags and it could drive tacks right out of the box. Love that gun.
Life for me was great as a lefty, because my grip never messed with the slide stop. Now that new pistols have ambi-stops I have to adjust my grip a little. The VP9 I had was the worst offender when it came to never locking back on empty.
I picked one of these up, and I haven't personally had any issues with extraction or function. All that being said, I have only a couple hundred rounds through mine. It runs smooth, and I didn't have any finish issues.
The 92FS and P226 were both put out circa '85. I don't have experience with all of those weapons, but I had the impression that those two were preferred for military use.
B&H spring solutions has a deep dive and diagnosis of the SA35 and corrects a bunch of the problems with this pistol, one thing he found was that the slide needs to be deburred to smooth it up and fix ejection issues among others
It shouldn't need ANYthing like that, out of the box. Springfield should be fixing this at the factory instead. No excuse for that level of QC shortcomings with the price of these pistols. It's 2021; there's legitimately No Excuse for poor craftsmanship at this price point.
@@robl884 I agree Rob. Colt tried skipping the finish work on their Snake series guns and it didnt work out for them. Springfield is trying to cost cut too.
I really appreciate that these vignettes touch on conflicts from the past as well as future engagements, while staying true to what matters.. educating the masses on the crimes of Ron Jeremy.
I’ve been rocking an “actual” Browning Hi Power for over 20+ years. Never had an extraction issue… It stovepipes occasionally with steel case, but only with aftermarket mags. Running brass, it’s been literally flawless! For 20 years! Browning HP is a masterpiece!
Eh.. I had a one of the super duper fancy deluxe royal blued Browning Hi Powers and it was a piece of garbage... It had a hammer spring made for Conan the Barbarian and it had a sloppier slide that rattled more than a Mexican maracca on Cinco de Mayo also was not fond of the magazine disconnect and mags would not eject out without a bone headed spring ejector thing in the magazines
Hi Powers need some tweaks in order to be as reliable as modern handguns. Frankly I think it's bullshit they're trying to overcharge for a mundane pistol that's not even reliable. FN wants to charge $1300 for theirs lol. Fix the weak extraction and stovepiping and lower the price to $700 and it's appealing. Otherwise they can f right off.
You know what’s weird? At my local gun range, the Victoria Fish and Game club, we have a llama that loves to hang out. His name is Otis and he’s learned he can stand in front of people trying to shoot at the pistol and he won’t move until they feed him. Such a good boy tbh.
Listened to you on Mike Force and yes you are correct, an armed society is the only society not in fear of its government. As an American now living in a 'western' nation which willingly gave up its guns to its government very recently, it is stunning how powerless the people are to governmental mandates. Also stunning how meek it made the society at standing up to obvious wrongs. Keep doing what you're doing. We need it.
Thanks for pointing out the difficulties. It's amazing they could produce a malfunctioning version of a pistol that has been made since 1935. Tisas are more reliable out of the box. I hope SA fixes the issues. The hi power is an awesome pistol.
Springfield should just fix their company and stop acting like 🍄 tipped heads when people complain consistently about their shoddy parts quality and QC.
@@NachozMan Sadly brother no American company is. Mediocrity rules in The United States of Soviet America. Long gone are the glory days of pride in company and craftsmanship. There are enough pathetic low IQ ppl out here to gobble up anything marketing can sell them. Most aren't even shooters, just weekend warriors. After all if you sabotage a nations weapon industry with mediocrity than in a battle all you have to do is make a better gun. Thats why currently I only purchase imported European arms. I got lucky snagging a colt m4 before colt crapped the bed. A remington 870 tactical that I heavily upgraded and a 1973 winchester 94 in .22 short, long, LR. My only 3 long guns. I carry glock or no lock smith revolvers or Ruger revolvers if I can find one made well. Other than that I would purchase CZ or HK funds providing.
I did 18 years in the PPCLI, 2 Commando and the Patrol Pathfinders. I shot the Browning Hi-Power a few times myself. Back in the day (80's,90's, 2000's) I had an FN Hi-Power (And when I joined we had a powerful weapon in the FN C1 & 2 before we went to the C7 & 9). It was a beautiful gun. Great video. Ex Coelis, Airborne.
That extractor issue is insane for a brand new HP, It's not uncommon on my FEG which is expected because it's older than most of the viewers, but on a brandnew gun that's a bit silly.
I carried a browning Hi-power as personal weapon for 25years until we were forced to change to the glock, never had any issues and even did competitions for inter service, fired 1000s of rounds and loved it to pieces.
It's interesting that you mentioned the issue w/ the hammer being out of alignment. Although not the same gun, I had a 1911 that I sent into Springfield Armory's Custom Shop to upgrade and "improve" for reliability, and after a few hundred rounds (give or take) my gun had that exact issue as well, among a number of other issues. The result was that I would pull the trigger and hear a click, but no bang, only to find that the hammer had fallen into the half-cock position. Although a different extraction system, I too got the gun back with an exactor that didn't work properly and I ended up fixing it myself by buying a Wilson extractor and tuning it myself. I seemed to have the same mechanical issues on a different Springfield gun which makes me think that they are Springfield issues. Lesson learned, I should've sent it to Wilson Combat. I now carry a Glock 19 and wouldn't even consider Springfield firearms, no matter how good of reviews they might get. Sad thing is that at that point I had a Gen 3 Glock that I'd already owned for years and never had any issues with... and I still own that same Glock and it has yet to have any issues. My recommendation to anyone is this, don't mess with resurrected relics, and don't buy Springfields. You work too hard for your money to buy things that don't work like they should. Just buy a gun that you will probably never be able to put enough rounds through to break, like a Glock, call it good and be done with it.
The extractor issue is interesting, could be that the distance of the extractor hook/ claw is juuust too far back (talking microns), or the depth of the hook/ claw is too deep that keeps it from properly riding over the case rim and seating/ grabbing, or not deep enough? Doesn't seem like the slide recoil spring is weak at all, doubt the little bitty extractor spring is too stiff after running it that much and that hard. It's an interesting problem, same with that blueing fault-- seems like it was rushed, or like you said the QC dept. is slacking.
Yeah, looks like tolerance stacking to me. Long but in spec headspace plus short extractor = cases slip off the claw and onto the chamber mouth and can't get hooked back onto the extractor.
Probably just screwed up geometry. Happened on late gen 3 glocks when they switched to MIM manufacturing. Happened in 2 of my G19s. Swapped to gen 4 ejectors and gen 2 extractors. Went from 1 jam per mag to 5k rounds no stoppages. Which makes me wonder…how did Springfield manufacture these extractors?
I have an FN Herstal Hi-Power made in the 80's, and it made me sell off most of my other extraneous, "I don't really need that" handguns that I had... it's SOOOO good. The grip angle is perfect, the grip itself is a perfect fit for my hand, just the best handgun for me. Like you: Mecgar mags.... OH YES. I also have a Waffenampt 1944-made Hi-Power that looks like a typical late-war, simplified beast (bad finish, low blade sights, no mag safety, no lanyard ring), but that never gets shot. Great to see someone picking them back up, but hopefully Springfield will work out the kinks that you encountered. Great review!
I had a ruger that would fail to extract, changed out the extractor and spring with a full clean and 2 rounds later would fail to extract on every round. I “lightly” polished/cleaned up the fore side of the extractor ramp and that helped. Took it from an every round FTE, to a one in every two mags FTE. Maybe a slightly stiffer spring, or an o-ring/insert in the extractor bore that may help. Glad it happened though, I would hate to be carrying it and have that issue in a real life situation. But once it started happening I bought a Hellcat OSP and no problems. I’ve had dirt, mud, shingle grit, plywood/sawdust, and tons of other building material trash caked all in my Hellcat. Took it to the range and it threw 300 rds down range with no problems. Took it home and cleaned/inspected it and not a single defect/imperfection on any Larry of the pistol. Except the Holosun RDS from my hammer claw hitting it every day. Also, what’s the SN on the original gun? Be interesting to tie more problems with an earlier pistol, or chocking it up to overall poor quality/QC.
Yes!!! Thank you flannel daddy for reviewing this gun!! I've wanted a practical Browning hi power for so long and there getting kinda hard to find at a reasonable price. Now I can actually get one, once they get a little more available.
@@horacegentleman3296 I'm just excited for a modernized Hi power at a reasonable price. I'm fully aware that quality control will probably be an issue for a while, I don't expect there first batch to perfect. I've seen the price gauging and I'm also not surprised. What I'm hoping is the SA-35 will help push down the price for a proper FN Hi Power. Also that springfield gets their shit together and fixes the quality control issues. I was hoping Garand Thumb would do a review cause he's honest with his reviews. So if there worth it he'll say so and if there crap he'll also say so. There may be Hi powers available in Canada but that doesn't mean they're readily available in the States. I definitely wouldn't say no to nice Inglis Hi Power. (As to the bar bunny being willing to do the horizontal shuffle with your ugly mug who else has she been "dancing" with? Cause that may be a gift that keeps on giving and not in a nice way. So maybe stay away from her on those lonely Monday nights.)
@@horacegentleman3296 Exactly, I’d rather spend the extra couple hundred on a real one that can only go up in value. This clone probably ain’t going anywhere when it comes to value.
Very good info. Have had a bad experience with a Springfield Saint upper receiver. Same issue wouldn’t extract and caused a double feed, but it didn’t make it 100 rounds. To their credit they made it right and I was back up in two weeks. So good on them for that.
I got a Saint Victor as my first AR and noticed the extractor spring was marred and scratched to shit after 70 rounds. Don't know how that's happening because the finish inside of the extractor slot on the bolt is not scratched even a little bit. Haven't had any malfunctions so far though.
@BuscheTheWizard same, and they had to polish the feed ramp where the bolt closed against the live round that fed against the spent casing. Not a fun failure. Glad they got you fixed up. They were super cool to deal with.
I have 13 Browning Hi-Powers with 17,000 rounds on each one if I had to guess. I was once walking my dog and toddler through Chicago when a group of thugs led by the one and only Ron Jeremy tried to cause a ruckus. Unfortunately for them I carry two Hi-Powers everywhere I go and drew them both. Unfortunately for me they are both SA-35’s and I had two FTE and lost my dog and son whilst getting my ass kicked by those ruffians left standing.
Many years ago, I bought a new SA M1911A1 "Government Model." It came to me in a purple "Chevas Regal" bag put inside a nice plastic gun box (along with two 7-round magazines and accessories). At seven yards, I could not hit the target. I asked the range master to observe my next string of fire. He told me that the slide seemed to twist at every shot. I asked him to fire the pistol, and he could not hit the target either. I contacted SA and stated the problem. SA paid for shipping both ways, and returned the pistol within two weeks. The work order stated that the slide rails were cut unevenly, and that a new slide was fitted to the frame. Excellent customer service. Even with modern mass-production, if only one bit of tolerance is out of spec, the gun will function reliably, but accuracy suffers. Be well.
I had a mid-80's Springfield 1911 where the sights were lined up, but both the front sight and rear sight were canted to the right. I just sold it for what I paid for it. Didn't want to test Springfield's CS on a 35 year old gun.
What I'm hearing is first run gun difficulty. Just about every Hi Power factory had the same or other issues. The weapon doesn't lend itself well to smiths that never have product one before. It takes them a bit to get it right. I think it's because of the time in which the weapon was designed. The Hi power is a real favorite and a joy to shoot.
I wonder why SA makes such high QCed weapons but then does stuff like this. SA aint the bezt but they are better than having their pistols' extractors stop working after 700 rounds.
My Hi power was a brought back from WW2 with all the Nazi bird stamps and SS stamps on it. It shoots freaking deadly accurate! Every kind of ammo fired through it works. The gun was my grandfather's so when he died, I was given the Hi power to me my grandmother.
I never realized that the design went back that far or that the nazis even used it. With what was going on in 1930s europe, it makes sense. You probably have a valuable gun there.
The exchange between Mike & the timeline authority boss llama is f'n hilarious. Great review. Never seen Mike so Happy to review a firearm. Always avoided the short-bus except on this channel.
The quality of your videos is great , listen to it with my apple earphones brings the sound to another level, the shooting scare the living daylights out of me and raised my heart beat.
The intros make me think that he's just filming the pre mission training before actually traveling time to stop fictitious characters that actually travel to reality. The reviews are the cover ups #garandgate
I must say I was quite excited to see Springfield come out with a classic handgun. Retro is the roar now and what’s old is new again. I was skeptical due to it being made by Springfield and sadly it seems as though the internet bashing of Springfields QC may have come to fruition. I would love to get one but perhaps in a year when they’ve worked out the issues and come out with a GEN 2.
Springfield doesn't fix design issues or flaws. Just issues corpo statements to the peasants while laughing on their way to the spank bank because people will still shill and buy their retro garbage.
Springfield just does the normal QC process for guns today, which is the end user is the QC person. That's becoming SOP for most manufacturers now. They are counting on most people being 'owners' not 'shooters'. They are building to a price point, not a standard. The price point is low enough that it is appealing to as broad an audience as possible while being high enough to seem 'high end' compared to their polymer guns, and compared to the Turkish guns also on the market. Same with their 1911s and M1As.
Yeah, not the biggest Springfield guy...they can make a solid weapon but its kinda rare. I owned a SAINT and even though it ran just fine and I never had a single issue with the weapon, the rifle was so fucking light that every shot would jerk the weapon and jump you way off target. Absolutely impossible to do a follow up shot...thats just with the baseline model though and having it straight outta the box. Not kdding about the weight, it weighs around 3-4lbs
Same thing goes for buying a vehicle. Don't buy a brand new model or a freshly facelifted one, wait a year or so for the mid cycle refresh since that typically addresses issues that come up...or just buy a Toyota/Lexus. Peace✌️😎🇺🇸
My late uncle, was a 3 war navy vet, WWII, Korea & Vietnam. He bought a Hi-Power in Florida, and carried it as his side arm while on PBR's in the Vietnamese Delta and rivers. A few years before he passed away, I told him that if he ever started to sell off his collection, to please offer me first choice. A year or two later, he showed me a Ruger Single Six .22 that he had just bought a few days earlier. "I traded in my old Hi-Power". My heart sank, and I high-tailed it to the local gun store. The owner remembered my uncle. He gave it a safety check and put it in the display case. It sold immediately. My heart is still sad, but I did get his Ruger .22.
I like how you can get two Springfield products, disassemble them, take the best from each, and put just enough good parts together to make a quality product and still have enough shitty parts left over to make an almost complete typical Springfield product.
I really would love to thank you for the last part of the video. Everyone needs to know. Yes, firing things is fun. No matter if it's fireworks, guns, or anything that puts things in motion. Needs to have safety in mind at all times. Thank you Garand.
First pistol I bought for myself was an FEG hipower clone. I've since traded into a more modern handgun but I always miss shooting that hipower. Most accurate handgun I've shot yet.
browning Hi-Power in 40SW was the gun I carried for many years in Law Enforcement (two toned :) ) till they said go 9m or 45acp Got to say it was the best fitting handgun to me than any other and LOVED IT!
If you remember that one of Garand Thumb's first videos was about the field strip procedure for a FEG NV9 hi power clone go ahead and hit that subscribe button Kinda sad he didn't bring it out for this vid, the ol girl was replaced by fancier options
4:43 amen! What a beautiful pistol design, the more outdated she gets, the more I love her. SA is random with their quality, but a custom shop model with hand fit barrel & slide for $1200ish would hit home for me.
Long time listener, First time caller, GarandThumb...TL;DR keep some Fiocci/Perfecta/ other Euro ammo in the range bag, just in case...and please continue to hold manufacturer's feet to the fire, because things should work, especially these things. Remember seeing similar issues out of a Spanish Star in 9x19, the only sidearm a buddy of mine had or could afford at the time. He and I were busy sighting in his rifle (see Steve Buscemi in Armageddon referencing Greek tragedies for how that was panning out) but I noticed over on the pistol range, his wife had the cleaning rod in her back pocket, and every so many rounds, which seemed to be 2 or 3 at best, she would lock the slide back, punch the empty case out, seat the mag, and resume. Was pretty impressed how deft she became at clearing the jam, but wanted to improve the situation. They were shooting WWB, I had brought Perfecta (Fiocci) in hopes of getting to test drive it myself. Didnt have another 9 to test the ammo, only had the two factory mags,, so only one other variable available...Threw her a box, turned her loose, continued to attempt to call shots for my buddy. When we paused, she walked back over, threw me an empty ammo box, and grinned, saying it ran like a sewing machine. After shooting it myself, with my ammo and with multiple FTE with WWB, I grabbed exemplars of our brass and a few pieces of random range brass. Stopped home and grabbed calipers, and while we were cleaning guns that night, tried dry fitting brass into the slide and then confirmed my suspicions with the calipers. The Perfecta, and maybe one other Euro headstamp (S&B maybe, I can't remember) had significantly thinner rims than everything else I had samples of. Food for thought, especially for Springfield and FN. Also might be worth looking at for things for all of us to keep in the range bag. Not sure if dude still has the gun, but I was going to offer to grab a spare extractor from Numrich or somebody and play around with stoning it down till it ran on our ammo. That way if it didn't get any better you can put it back together and at least know what you have.
@@thunderring8056 the CF has been slowly phasing out the high power for the SIG Sauer P320. When I served only special forces and a few reg force units were issued them.
@@northernninety7 you mean after they and rra got caught lying and then a shitty cover up the ISRA did the heavy lifting to squash the bill iirc .. correct me if I'm wrong
My first thought on hearing of the extractor issue was possibly the extractor being manufactured with too tight clearances getting gunked up, or a weak spring. Although different quality ammo could potentially explain the different timing of malfunction starting and if so possibly some light sanding on edges of extractor could resolve the issue.
No it's Springfield armory. It's been known for a long time that their extractors suck ass and break or lose tension. Not just from tight clearances but poor geometry and steel.
Springfield has never understood extractor geometry. They need to changed the angle on the front edge of the extractor to increase mechanical advantage, allowing it to snap over a case easier. They should also remove some material from the limiting surface of the rear of the extractor where the extractor spring exerts its force on the extractor. This would allow the extractor to cam out furthur when contacting a case.
You and I know this by now very well but the 🍄 tip execs would never listen to the dirty end user peasants. Especially if it shaved a dollar or two from them.
Really loved the opening. As far as the SA-35 goes I am glad that you pointed out the problems with the firearm so at this time I am going to pass on the SA-35 maybe in a few years they will get all of the bugs out of it.
I own a hi power and a cz75. Although the cz75 is certainly not a clone it is amazing. At the risk of sounding like a hater there is nothing the hi power does that the CZ does not do better.
I was issued a commercial Browning HP35 in 1975. It looked new but look bad when I turned it in after time spent in a leather shoulder holster in swamps and jungles. Have carried one ever sense. Last spring I bought a SA35. Only have around 200 rounds through it. Gun seems to be fine except for the barrel. At 25 yards it would not shoot shotguns patterns. I put a Brownells drop in barrel in it. Cut group size in half. It is now going for a Cylinder and Slide fitted barrel and any other parts it might need. It is shooting 6 inches low with factory and Brownells barrels. I hoped for better but it is Springfield so that is why to go with C&S parts and forget Springfield. I want to end up with a double stack 9mm that will shoot with a Staco. I have put thousands of rounds through one so I do know what I am looking for.
Hey, you forgot the BAR (in addition to the 1911, M2 and Hi Power). Arguably the best in its class in the world in WW1. Too good for the battlefield in fact.

I've noticed you keep your teeth brushed! Wonderful company BH spring solutions LLC. And wonderful hygiene!
The Wehrmacht and the Allies didn't agree on much, but they agreed the Hi-Power was worth issuing to their armies.

It shouldn't need ANYthing like that, out of the box. Springfield should be fixing this at the factory instead. No excuse for that level of QC shortcomings with the price of these pistols. It's 2021; there's legitimately No Excuse for poor craftsmanship at this price point.

I imagine they sent him a factory second, since the bluing was blemished
Yeah, looks like tolerance stacking to me. Long but in spec headspace plus short extractor = cases slip off the claw and onto the chamber mouth and can't get hooked back onto the extractor.
Ive pulled these extractor springs and taken just DUST off it and ran phenomenal
Its Springfield what QC?

I nearly Bidened myself waiting for an upload!
Last time I was this early, people still had respect for Springfield Armory

@BuscheTheWizard same, and they had to polish the feed ramp where the bolt closed against the live round that fed against the spent casing. Not a fun failure. Glad they got you fixed up. They were super cool to deal with.
Since the Hi-Power was the first pistol I was ever issued I love this video.
There are a lot of things that can cause extraction issues in a Browning Hi-Power, number one on that list is Springfield Armory.
😆, maybe a real company can make a HP clone like Ruger.
I own many Springfield armory weapons and have never had a single problem from any of them. They all work beautifully all the time.
Springfield one of the best brands around
I wonder why SA makes such high QCed weapons but then does stuff like this. SA aint the bezt but they are better than having their pistols' extractors stop working after 700 rounds.

Nice to see the Rhodesian brush stroke living on , awesome

Brushie Brushie 💚💛🤎
My Hi power was a brought back from WW2 with all the Nazi bird stamps and SS stamps on it.
It shoots freaking deadly accurate!
Every kind of ammo fired through it works.
The gun was my grandfather's so when he died, I was given the Hi power to me my grandmother.
I never realized that the design went back that far or that the nazis even used it. With what was going on in 1930s europe, it makes sense.
You probably have a valuable gun there.
I never forget that Garand Thumb and I are cousins conjoined at the FÉG PJK-9HP
The exchange between Mike & the timeline authority boss llama is f'n hilarious. Great review. Never seen Mike so Happy to review a firearm.
Always avoided the short-bus except on this channel.
The quality of your videos is great , listen to it with my apple earphones brings the sound to another level, the shooting scare the living daylights out of me and raised my heart beat.

The intros make me think that he's just filming the pre mission training before actually traveling time to stop fictitious characters that actually travel to reality. The reviews are the cover ups #garandgate
Bien sur....
Rabbit hole of rabbit holes.
The Girsan P35 OPS with the rail is so nice. Smooth, accurate and reliable. Love mine, will be sending off to MK3 for upgrades.
Iv seen all the reviews from everyone on this pistol and had seen enough… until grandthumb posts a video and I’m all over it!!!
Peace✌️😎🇺🇸
@@sebastianriz4703 According to Springfield, the Saint weighs 6lbs 11oz🤔
I carried a Belgium Browning Hi-Power (with rosewood grips) throughout OIF 1. LOVED that weapon.
40 seconds in and Iv already decided this is the greatest pistol of all time
First pistol I bought for myself was an FEG hipower clone.
Just like an 80’s action movie! Never ran out of ammo.
If you remember that one of Garand Thumb's first videos was about the field strip procedure for a FEG NV9 hi power clone go ahead and hit that subscribe button
Kinda sad he didn't bring it out for this vid, the ol girl was replaced by fancier options
The sidearm of the Free World, born of the genius of Browning. May it live for as liberty endures!
4:43 amen! What a beautiful pistol design, the more outdated she gets, the more I love her. SA is random with their quality, but a custom shop model with hand fit barrel & slide for $1200ish would hit home for me.
Thanks for an informative and honest assessment of the SA-35.
I trained with the Browning high power in the Canadian Forces. Pretty decent pistol. Just hilarious that the CF still uses it lol.
lol, dont miss it. Outdated.
Always thought it was a joke that we still used that thing, then again it’s not like our military has the budget to adopt something else.
@@thunderring8056 the CF has been slowly phasing out the high power for the SIG Sauer P320. When I served only special forces and a few reg force units were issued them.
@@Vinny69420 very outdated. Nice name by the way lol.
I would love to own one of these... But my burning hate for Springfield armory will never let me
I feel exactly the same. Glad to know I'm not the only one refusing to let them cash in on nostalgia bucks and cut corners.
Me too. Screw Springfield.
May your burning hate never abate.
When you dont even realize that things have changed since the Illinois bill.
@@northernninety7 you mean after they and rra got caught lying and then a shitty cover up
the ISRA did the heavy lifting to squash the bill iirc .. correct me if I'm wrong
Your videos are great. Keep them coming. I don't comment on many channels but yours are one of the best. Great demeanor with the videos.
@@Winteriscomn that’s because they’re not made by Springfield, they’re just rebranded HS2000s imported from Croatia.
I also love the Hi Power. It is one of my carry guns. I guess I need to get my hands on one of these.
Love your channel. I'm glad I'm not the only one who carries a hi power.
Really loved the opening. As far as the SA-35 goes I am glad that you pointed out the problems with the firearm so at this time I am going to pass on the SA-35 maybe in a few years they will get all of the bugs out of it.
5:56 Damn, you forgot the BAR and the M1919.
Also: You're raising llamas (or alpacas), now? You're truly a wildman.
I used the Browning during my military service and I loved it.
Combine this with the PSA MP5 clone (if its ever released) and you're on your way to a ghetto 1980s SAS LARP
I own a hi power and a cz75. Although the cz75 is certainly not a clone it is amazing. At the risk of sounding like a hater there is nothing the hi power does that the CZ does not do better.
I never hear anybody say anything bad about CZ pistols,I keep thinking about getting the CZ75 Compact PCR
CZ shadow is a great gun indeed! Seen lots of them in shooting competitions.
Man you have the best intros on the RUclips net 💯 love this channel
Hey, you forgot the BAR (in addition to the 1911, M2 and Hi Power). Arguably the best in its class in the world in WW1. Too good for the battlefield in fact.
I swear Garand thumb could sell me stuff i already own. Making everything look amazing with those intros.
I was looking into this pistol a day before this video. I'm beginning to suspect Garand Thumb is covertly monitoring my online activity 😂😂
