Designed to be a jack-of-all-trades type robot, the Protectron unit was one of RobCo Industries was one of the most popular products by the robotics manufacturer. Today, we explore every* notable protectron in the series.

Insult Bot, hands down.
He caught me after a firefight during my first foray into the Ash Heap, and hit me with "One of us is slow, friendless, and completely devoid of personaility. The other is a Protectron. ZING!"
I was completely flabbergasted as I took the "YOU'VE BEEN INSULTED" printout and watched him walk away.
As he was going, I faintly heard him say something about contacting the burn ward and it broke me for the next 10 minutes. 🤣

Insult by hit me first with that knock knock joke, not going to lie crap hurt me and then he walked away saying boom roasted. Honestly I couldn't move for like 5 minutes. Tuesday I avoid that high school I'm afraid he's going to hurt me again man that robot is no joke.
To this day that card sits in my inventory as a permanent reminder I couldn't bear to go back

Drinkin’ Buddy from Fallout 4 is my favorite, he’s so great to have waddling around in your settlements.
Yeah and his jokes brighten up the entire settlement

The protectron my favourite part about them is the excitement you get when you find one and think you can get it to clear the building for you only for it to be torn apart by one ghoul.

I was recently playing through Olney in 3 and I activated one only for it to get one-shot by a Deathclaw as it opened its first door. I felt so bad I reverted save and left it in its charging pod 😂
It cleared a building in Fallout 4 for me, but sadly he saw me as an enemy too and I couldn't deactivate it
I think the only time a Protectron has had a meaningful impact in combat was in the Pitt DLC, where four can be activated at once when you're getting steel. It also helps that you're going into it with limited supplies, so it feels even more impactful.
Or you've already cleared the place and you find the pod while you're searching around.
I wish we could meet Rock-o-Bot. Or better yet, have him as a companion. Also I feel bad for the bots of 76. They seem to be much more intelligent and self aware, maybe because much less time has gone by since the bombs dropped than in fallout 3 or 4.
As someone with a fallout 4 farm run by an army of protectrons i love thes knucklehead robots
Gotta give 76 credit where credits due, there are some nice, unique protectrons with good stories within the game.
If you get to ada's caravan quick enough Hertz will still be fighting and functioning, he will likely be killed by the robots and even if you save him he dies after the fight anyway.

I can put up with the super mutants existing 25 years after the bombs, I can deal with the brotherhood of steel being in West Virginia then too. But I refuse to believe highschoolers from what is essentially the 1950's would program a robot to say boom roasted, that's where I draw the noncanon line in the sand

One of us is slow friendless, and completely devoid of personality. The other ones are Protectrons.
The 50's thing is just supposed to be an aesthetic/background. The devs and writers have always said it's not meant to actually be the 50's frozen in time.
Society decided that fashion and entertainment weren't as important as advancement when we first harnessed the atom, but that doesn't mean that teenagers didn't become edgier with each passing generation as they got sick of a world that emphasized work and neglected recreation.
My least favorite thing about fallout 3 is how all of the sudden, wastelanders start acting like 50's caricatures
I really like the Cowboy Protectrons, i always do their Quest especially the Giddyup Buttercup Kid and i love to protect the Giddyup Buttercups.
To further add to Takahashi in Diamond City, I took Codsworth with me to Home Plate one day and he had a conversation with Takahashi, I can't remember what it was about but I think Codsworth talks about how he needs to keep trying to let people know what he wants or something like that
Surprised the wood gathering bots in 76 weren’t mentioned, they helped a lot in my early game
I actually have them in my camp on my settler playthrough
They're unique, but as a group rather than individuals. I absolutely love them, to the extent that I only like building my CAMP at Gilman Lumber (just downhill from V76), building in such a way that I don't disrupt their pathing. Even before Wastelanders' companion NPCs, my CAMP was always a pretty lively place.
The people that stole the Vicky and Vance memorabilia hacked the bot to make him still see the gun etc as being there rather then faults over time.
Didn't know about Bohr or Hurtz. The latter one probably just got lost in the explosions as the quest starts.
Hopefully you'll cover the other kinds of robots like this.
Mr. Fluffy actually made a huge impression on me in 76, I loved the fella

Another thing about the custodian, it drops one salient green, it is as far as I know the only enemy to drop it
I was obsessed with building robots in Fallout 4, I literally had settlements with nothing but robots.
Same, loved building robots I got some mods with extra parts for them. Always wanted an overpowered robot army.
Primm Slim is my favorite by far, but you gotta admit that 3 robots with identity issues fighting for your approval is also pretty funny. You should do one but with Mr.Handy/Mr.Gutsy/Ms.Nanny, some of them are really interesting or funny.

Also, from Fallout 4 Automatron DLC, *technically* Ada can also be a Protectron, if you choose to rebuild her into one.
And even without modifications she does spawn with some protectron parts
Same can be said for Codsworth and Curie (before he quest, of course), so I guess it's understandable why Ada wasn't included

Hmm is it possible that Robert house and robcos names come from "Robbie"? And they make a robot inspired by the design of robbie the robot. So it seems like it's connected.

Its so weird how Protrectrons were introduced in Fallout 3 but they fit so well with the game's aestethic you'd think they have been around since the interplay days.

On a recent play of 4 I went to Nuka World where the Ticket Taker was getting finished off by worms or some such when I was walking up to the mansion. He stood no chance being trapped in his booth like he was.

Wallace is pretty cool, Insult Bot can be a pain in the neck sometimes. You'll be shooting it out with enemies and next thing you hear is "Halt, please stand still" ahh I really can't halt at the moment or he will stalk you into another players camp just to insult my blue jumpsuit which I am not even wearing. Sometimes I will shoot him and take his steel or just make him chase after me listening to him hollering "Halt, halt please".
Takahashi is best bot and I will die fighting for him.
Fallout 3 pitts industrial protection are my favourite all ways avoid or not activate them in anyway just too keep them around. Same as the ones in fallout new vegas big mountain
I suppose they're not that notable but I do love the fallout 76 collectrons, especially the fasnacht collectron. his beautiful singing voice always cheers me up when I'm working on my C.A.M.P :)

I think deputy weld was a damn good idea. Both in making the city gates safe for caravans, the beggars, and the low-level player.. but also in-universe.
Lucas simms can't be everywhere all the time, and the sniper on the gates can only do so much against mid/close targets. If he ever heard about a guy selling robots, he'd send for him at great expense and probably then spend even more buying and having a robot programmed. No-way I'd trust Moira to do the job. Best leave it to the old sage himself.
I'm not sure how simms makes his money. Its not shown if megaton has a tax system or if he's required to sell anything he scavenges from attackers. I'm leaning towards a taxation system though.
Robots are expensive, and the robot merchant is always on the move to.. well, somewhere important where he says he has clients. He doesn't visit main settlements and he doesn't have much time for idle chit-chat. Lucas simms would have needed to hire a caravan or a courier to pay him to go out of his way and visit megaton. It seems like an extremely expensive endeavor.
But who knows, maybe simms bought the robot before he ever came to megaton, negating the cost to have the merchant come to him.
Perhaps he and Moira have a jovial relationship. It's possible he or another scout (maybe jericho) found a dormant robot and had Moira reprogram it for the town. Seems sketchy, but we don't see much of Moira's electronic/hacking skill. You can only hope she's better with computers than chemistry!
No matter what though, I like deputy weld. He belongs.

Have not watched video yet, but i am sure its gonna be great. Protectron's are my favorite robots. Made Automatron the best DLC in Fallout 4 for giving me the ability to have a customized Protectron follow me around

Shoutout to my protectron "D0N0LD" who takes care of the greenhouse on my fallout 4 settlement he distinguished himself during a raider attack by taking out 2 Raider veterans and 4 regular raiders on his own before needing to be fixed

My favorite protection is drinking buddy. Mainly because he is an infinite supply of ice cold drinks as long as I find the corresponding holodisk recipes.

Takahashi is fully capable of communicating, as Codsworth demonstrates when he has a full conversation with the bot, and fully understands his responses. His speech module is stuck on that one phrase, and I assume his insistance on only acknowledging "Yes" as a response from customers due to being unable to converse with anyone other than another robot. My only complaint is the fact that Bethesda gave Codsworth this dialogue, and then made it so Curie is unable to understand Takahashi regardless if she's a robot or a Synth, when as a robot she should easily be able to understand what he's actually saying rather than trying to start up a conversation in Japanese.

FISTO is the realest g out there. Almost makes me wish for a nuclear winter so i get on some of that action. Although the combo of bohr and fisto would be fire since with fisto there will always be a lot of protein sequences to calculate. Id be a regular Pedro N_orte

I didn’t realize this, but I think the protectron is based off Robby the Robot in the movie Forbidden Planet (1956) with Leslie Nielsen. They look very much alike.

You may have been playing with a mod that restores him, because he's cut content and has never existed in any version of the game. There _is_ a protectron in Vault 22, but it isn't Bohr.

The fallout 3 and NV security bots look so much better then the ones from fallout 4. I don't know what it is, but there is sonething about the old model that judt makes them look cute. While the new one is... just auseless can on legs -_-
