- part 2 here: • Fallout Iceberg EXPLAI...
Let's take a dive into some of the mysteries of the Fallout universe. I will do my best to explain each entry on the iceberg.
I had a lot of fun making this. Doing the research took me to some weird places I haven't been before.
Let me know what you think. Comment if you want me to explain any other weird or creepy gaming-related things.
Once again, the iceberg was made by reddit user /u/CritzD from the r/creepygaming subreddit.

21:21 I think that one refers to the phrase "when you see an NPC being attacked and you go and help him/her out, you're the Mysterious Stranger to them"
that's a good interpretation too!
With the dogmeat synth theory i think you’re missing the fact that he’s a purebred German shepherd 200 years after society ends. I think it is very unlikely that anyone could have the will or means to keep a line of purebred German shepherds for 200 years. I think it’s more likely that the institute made one to remind the sole survivor of their time before the war, making them a bit more comfortable. Along with the other points you mentioned in your video, I think it’s very likely dogmeat is a synth.
Dogmeat has been a german shepherd since Fo1, which took place in 2161. FEV research by the institute began in 2178. Furthermore they got their hands in the sole survivor until 2224 therefore it could not be a synth. While that does not prove that Fo4 was or was not a synth it does prove that german shepherds are a thing even a century after the apocalypse.
@@fernandotorrero779 Fallout 1 takes place way closer to the war, and on the west coast. The west Coast is shown to be more advanced, given that there is nobody who sells dogs in the commonwealth, over 200 years after the bombs drop, I find it unlikely that in the world of the east coast fallout, where everyone is fighting to survive for 200 years, the genetics of a purebred German shepherd would be secured
How are there still black and white vault dwellers in the same vault after 200 years? Is it a gameplay mechanic or are vault overseas adherent to Jim crow laws?
@@folkishappalachian6827 In the games vaults are smaller than they are in lore. In the Fallout bible they are supposed to house 500 to 1000 people if I'm correct.
Also what about cheyenne in fallout new vegas.
1. Ghoul whales were spoken about throughout the game between npcs. I almost didn’t want to explore the water due to my fear of underwater large surprises.
2. The synth mannequins can hold some weight as there’s a point in the game where you’re in a room full of mannequins and one synth. I always believed they were synths.
I blow as many of their heads off as i can
In another guys iceberg he goes deeper into most of these theories and some more, and he explains that not only what you said, but there’s a ship somewhere in the harbor with a bunch of mannequins, one in a position that implies he killed a human male. And there’s a note nearby that the captain of the ship is scared of the mannequins an blah blah basically he died by one
@@brickdinero5468 who makes that iceberg you are talking about? I am interested in watching
@@patsysolatzzo2962 franklygaming is his RUclips name sorry for the late reply
The whale would probably be friendly though.
I was the mysterious stranger for a low level in Fallout 76. I was in stealth, up on a rocky cliff. I could see the other player was battling too many supermutants at once, down below. without being detected, I softened up the targets so he could more easily finish them off. My activity was masked by all the noises and explosions going on, and the player was able to enter the building and complete whatever quest he was on, I'm sure.
Good lad
Someone we should all strive to be
You are the person every multiplayer game has in it, but never talked about, what a lad B)
i have a question joe guy, in 2022 is fallout 76 relatively good, or worth playing ?
@@mysalsa7963 yes it is, it’s a good game especially with friends
In hotel California there’s the line “ you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave” this slots perfectly with the sierra madre and how you’re trapped in it but you can still die
The Eagles "Hotel California" has been interpreted as being a Satanic Church. '69 referring to founding/ordaining of the Church of Satan and the Wine not being served 'cause it was the representation of Christ Blood. Also, "They stab it with their steely knives but they just can't kill The Beast", "You can checkout anytime you like but you can never leave"....
Although that makes sense too, the song Hotel California is more likely what they’re referencing to.
Oops sorry I misread your comment at first 😂
I always though the Grenade man was Rex, and he eventually ended up at Trinity Tower. He is an actor after all
haha maybe. now thats a theory!
its just a reference to Police Academy.
18:05 While yes the Carhenge easter egg is a reference to Stonehenge, I believe it's more of a reference to the ACTUAL Carhenge found in Alliance, Nebraska made by Jim Reinders.
I think a lot of people today forget how hard it was to determine what was or wasn't extinct before we started recording everything constantly. We thought gorillas were extinct for decades! Potatoes could very easily be extinct on the east coast and cats on the west and no one would know they exist on the other side of the country.
Another fun fact about the connection between the Sierra Madre and Hotel California is that alot off quests in MV are named after songs like Kick in the head, come fly with me, one for my baby, Nothing but a hound dog and Eddie my love
Given how dark the fallout universe can be, cant wait to get to the bottom.
we get into some weird ones in pt2!
:o
ok
Yeah nothing weird about a pure blood German Shepherd showing up in the middle of an atomic wasteland with no mutations and 200 years after all dog breeders are gone.
Dogmeat is the Mysterious Stranger's dog and shares his powers.
After Most* Dog breeders are gone, there's literally a few in-game.
Yeah the person above me is correct, there’s actually plenty of healthy dogs about, they’re hardy, and according to a lot of people in the lore they’re able to survive alone all of their lives no intervention needed, they’re weak in game sure, but it’s possible for a pure bred German shepherd, an already strong durable breed, to survive. Especially when breeders are everywhere, just far and few in between.
@@void-master9077 no its not at all it is far more unlikely that a German Shepard only bred with other German Shepard for 200 years that is ridiculous dogmeat would be a mut by now it is pretty fair to assume he is a synth if THAT is your argument.
@@Keithjustkeithwastaken did you choose to completely ignore half the argument? Dog breeders still exist, so yeah, if they had German Shepards and a place to keep them, they would be able to keep a pretty pure line of dogs. Not to mention, not everyone was just thrown out into the wasteland as soon as it started, there are vaults everywhere, and some of them could've housed animals, where it would be the actual job of people in those vaults to keep them pure-bred.
Deepest lore is actually me. I dropped the first nukes in the Fallout Universe. I am a business man after all....
damn u jace
@@N_orte hahahahha business
17:50
And she said *'We are all just prisoners here, of our own device'* -> The Madre not letting go
And in the master's chambers,
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can't kill the beast -> Attacking the security holograms
Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
'Relax, ' said the night man,
'We are programmed to receive.
You can check-out any time you like,
But you can never leave!'
-> The greeter hologram not letting anyone leave the casino
Great analysis! Was thinking the exact thing with the "can't kill the beast line" I was hoping someone would mention it!
“Running for the door” could also be a reference to either escaping the vault after killing Or trapping Elijah. Also could be the player trying to leave the Sierra Madre before completing the DLC
The song is a reference to the satanic temple of Cali. They even have the high priest in the photo on the back cover..
“The beast” can also be seen as a metaphor for the greed that drove most of the Courier’s Sierra Madre team to said location. For example, Christine’s mission to kill Elijah becomes less and less about how she sought to fulfil the hit the CoS put out on Elijah. Instead, a deep seated greed for revenge to kill Elijah for separating Christine from her lover takes over, nearly killing her in the Big M.T. and Sierra Madre. It isn’t the strongest or most concise of metaphors but it’s one interpretation.
Fun fact, "steely knives," was originally "steely dans." Since Steely Dan referenced The Eagles in an earlier song, and they were fans of each other.
8:05 I agree with it being scary. I'm happy it was the location of the last Bobblehead, because I couldn't find my way out again. So I just reloaded a save after finding the Bobblehead and getting the achievement.
In regards to the potato theory it's possible that it did go extinct on the East Coast while we know River City is growing them it's possible that they're the only exception and that they cannot produce a large enough number to replace the tato.
As for New Vegas it's possible that either it was never extinct or it was brought back from extinction by a major faction such as the NCR, vault city, or shi .
Also the grenade guy is probably a reference to Michael Winslow from Police academy.
I think your potato theory is probably correct. West coast got potatoes. East coast got cats lmao
@@N_orte the west also has cats, he just dudnt see them due to limitations, in 2 we talk to a women who owns them.
19:28 I think grenade man is a reference to Police Academy, and the character that Michael Winslow plays. Michael Winslow is a master of making sounds with only his voice. In the original movie, he meets the main character, played by Steve Guttenberg, after being arrested. When Guttenberg's character asks what he was in for, Winslow says, "I'll show you" and grabs a microphone and vocally mimics (perfectly) the sound of automatic rifle fire, and everyone freaks out. He's probably the best part of the series in my opinion, because his sounds are honestly on point and quite funny.
But yeah, he does things like mimic rifle fire and motorcycle sounds, so this is way too specific for it to be coincidental. It's also a movie series from the 80s and many of the guys writing for Bethesda grew up then, so I'm certain they'd know that series of movies, I mean there were like 5 or 6 sequels or something like that.
I think this may be the first time I've ever learned something new about this game in years because i genuinely never knew Carla was/is an Institute spy.
It wasn't explicitly mentioned that it was the New Plague, but it's very likely that it was also in Fallout 4. McCready's son, Duncan, is mentioned to have a disease that causes him to be covered in blue boils, and his companion quest consists of trying to get a treatment for him from the West Tek facility. It could be some other disease, but it could also be the New Plague. Nothing there is ever really confirmed.
The "Nate is a synth" theory reminds me of the "deckard was a replicant" theory, I guess in both it's just up to interpretation
Well, in some of the versions of the story he was one.
yeah, everything is "up to interpretation" but sometimes there's evidence for or against an interpretation, like the dead body in the chemist near the corvega factory, which to me heavily implies that the player is a synth.
@@WodkaEclair which one do you mean?
I think it's confirmed he was a replicant
I still like the idea of the zetans being the ones starting the great war. It's a goofy theory that I think fits in quite well with fallout's universe
While I agree that is a funny idea to entertain it totally breaks what fallout has always been about. Humanity's hubris caused the end of the world. Weather it was american or Chinese jingoism, whether it was capitalism or communism it no longer matters, it was us and there is no turning back; neither china nor USA remain nor anything the stood up for, all we have left are dregs of humanity trying to survive in a world that is no longer hospitable. To change that for aliens did kind of makes fallout's message moot.
Maybe with that idea of Zetans starting the great war off, is that maybe their potential reasoning in doing so was to weaken the world's population for if they decide to invade them since battling the people found in a post-nuclear world would be most likely, to them at least, be leagues easier to fight and concur then the large organized and well armed militaries of the pre-war world.
Fun, but meaningless. The Great War was started by China, which is pretty blatant if you pay attention to how the Anchorage Invasion went, with the US pushing back all the way into Beijing, and China launching out of desperation.
Always been a fan of these iceberg videos, nice to watch one did by you :)
thank you! :) I'm a big fan as well
I really like the calm vibe of your videos, no loud voices and only facts. Keep making more! 😁
thank you!
I don't believe that cats in Fallout 4 are synths as in FO4, there is a small, unmarked location, a small shack, that has just a bunch of cats, pet food bowls and a merchant. Talking to the merchant, you can buy cat meat from her. To me, this suggests she's breeding these cats for meat to sell/eat and if the cats are breeding, they aren't synthetic.
Dude, I really really enjoyed this. I can sincerely say I am gonna be super stoked for part 2.
The X-01 retcon never happened, APA =/= X-01
76 even explains that X-01 is experimental prewar pa
APA was designed based on X-01 designs by the enclave later on
yes, exactly this! But some people believe that Nuka-World broke the lore by having the X-01 Quantum, but the reality is, exactly as you said, the APA was made post war using the X-01 schematics!
@@N_orte I always figured that the x-o1 power armor was a pre war plan with maybe 5 suits made that was then updated post war to the advanced power armor
Found the Bethesda simp/apologist
@@chrishiggins1934 well it is really likely and logical though, since even when comparing the actual designs of the Advanced PA and X-01, though yes you can tell they do have similarities, but on the other hand they do have a number of differences as well, at least in my opinion, that really helps support that they are not the same. Some of the examples of this is with the X-01 having a more experiential/prototype kind of look with the more bulky looking parts (not including the changes to PA as a whole) as well as quite a number of exposed tubing on the back and more visible looking openings between the armors plate pieces compared to the advanced which has a more finished and completed/polished look to it with a more sleeker design that doesn't have as much exposure between it's plating and conceals most of the more possibly vital parts of the armor.
@@gearhooves5996 you know what, I apologize. That was a very well thought out response and totally respectful. Sorry for being a dick, I respect that explanation and I can see that being lore friendly. Thanks for taking the time to reply
You can't really say that Nate or Nora remembers too much about pre-war to be a synth when Nick had an entire Pre-War consciousness in an older model. Even if it's not full he remember ridiculous details in his quest from what I can remember.
The New Plague is also referenced by MacCready in Fallout 4. His son is sick and the symptoms match up except for the hemorrhaging
I appreciate your visuals + editing. Very appropriate to the topics you discuss in your videos and they go well with your narration!!
fun fact: the flatwoods monster IS a Zetan, this is not a theory, it's confirmed fact due to them appearing within the Zetan Invasion event fallout 76 had not too long ago as a fairly common enemy fighting along side the other Zetans and robots in the invasion force.
Why is Shaun being Father only a theory? If they explicitly say in the game that Father IS Shaun, I think the theory should be that Father ISN'T Shaun
Kind of backwards ain't it
I think we can confirm the flatwoods monster is a zetan from this last invader event. Lol. But yeah before the event it seemed obvious. You could see their face in photo mode and they checked off the take a photo of alien challenge prior to the last update
I always like longer videos you do, great iceberg!
thank you, Ezra!
There is a location in 4 where you can find synths hiding in a group of mannequins
10:08 I’m a believer in the Dogmeat is a synth, purely because he’s a perfectly healthy and highly intelligent dog. Every other dog is irradiated, but this random dog that’s incredibly friendly, looked like a purebred German Shepherd, and is very healthy is just hanging out at a gas station? That’s weird. I don’t think he’s an informant or being used to watch you (although that’s a possibility. The institute uses fake birds. We know that for a fact), I think he’s a synth animal as part of their terraforming projects, and they disposed of him by chucking him topside. Or maybe the experiment was a success, and Dogmeat was left on the surface to help repopulate the dogs with healthy genes.
>Shows up and instantly bonds with the sole survivor
>Helped fight throughout the wasteland
>Led the sole survivor right into their spouse's killer doorstep
>Doesn't even utter a single word when you need to do what's to be done even though it's morally wrong actions
So yeah, Dogmeat is unfathomably based
Something I was thinking about is it'd be cool to restore the wasteland more each game. I know they all take place during different time periods. Some before or after each other. But it'd be cool to restore the world to normal again. I think fallout 4 in a way started that idea. Being able to build settlements was basically like restoring the commonwealth. But I mean something as simple as removing debris or garbage and cleaning up. Rebuilding. Things like that.
Love the theory about the lonesome drifter , very believable
Hey, love the video hope you go big like the others, take it easy bro
On the topic of redcons, while I do agree with you that an IP owner is free to do all the redcons he wants, I do think that people should be free to dislike said changes and critique it.
yup, they can do as they please, it doesn't mean I have to put up with this bullshit :)
@@ceasarcruz8312 yep pretty much hahaha
There's still so much to know about the world of fallout
ton of info!
I don't really like the whole "P.A.M. started the war" theory. On top of it not really mattering in the end, it kind of misses what I see as the point of P.A.M. as a character, and is just a little mean-spirited towards her.
P.A.M. is a defining example of the arrogance of the pre-war United States. They built a *Predictive* Analytics Machine, who made well-informed and highly accurate *predictions,* and then discarded what it said because they weren't concrete "yes or no" conclusions - even though they were proven correct, as evidenced by the Yangtze sitting along Boston's harbor.
"Whole lot of ruckus for something that isnt a big deal"
"Retcons don't matter"
Bruh theres like less than 5 suits of power armor pre fallout 4 it's not hard to get right.
Also like you said I figured it was a prototype but what pisses me off is the fallout 4 load screens that contradict what is in the game. Even if there are discrepancies and inconsistencies, the least they can do is have everything WITHIN fallout 4 be consistent
you sure? it's fuckin bethesda after all...
@@thinkingboi9508 the lore is what made fallout franchise so good, shitty retcons should be called out...
Nothing is contradicted you idiot, it's all prototypes, thats what the fucking X means in designations, it's the prototype that was turned into APA.
15:25 my personal way to solve the "things were called extinct in one game and exist in another" is just the fact that they are locally extinct where the games take place. Considering the fact that pretty much every location is cut off from each other almost entirely it's possible people don't know that things existed elsewhere. It also makes logical sense in the case of the potato, for example. Fallout new Vegas takes place fairly close to parts of America that had large agricultural usage, so potatoes surviving makes sense, while in fallout 4, in the areas around Boston, potatoes were mostly obtained from the outside world and as such there wasn't enough to make a natural population and crossbreeds had to be made.
Also just going to point out it seems like a lot of theories just like to say "everything is a synth", which I find a little silly.
Technically speaking, the Fallout universe is connected to the Elder Scrolls universe through c0da. Especially if Tod Howard believes in c0da. Meaning Tod is a godhead like Kirkbride was.
The thumbs up thing, while it is bunk, that doesn't mean that people in the fallout universe believe it. Remember, the government had our school kids put their hands over their heads while under their desks to "protect" themselves from a nuke.
it's much better to be under a desk protecting your head than standing still. Depending on how far it falls you may either get hit by glass shards, concrete blocks and/or a massive heat wave that'll melt your skin off. getting under something or just laying down is really the best and basically the only thing you can do to protect yourself.
There is quite a bit in this vid I've never heard of. Great vid👍
Never heard of the hotel California theory till now! Such a cool idea it's totally my new headcannon
If I ever see Doc doing that, I will buy a lottery ticket.

It’s fun to think that the Brotherhood just doesn’t know about potatoes
With the flatwoods monster being a zetan the new event in 76 confirms that it is a zetan as is gets zap down from the space ship

dogmeat doesn't show up at Kellogg's house unprompted, Nick says he's going to call Dogmeat with a special signal you can't hear, implying he uses a dog whistle to call him.
17:42 "Some dance to remember" and "Some dance to forget" could also refer to the holograms and the other "friendly" inhabitants of the Sierra Madre
The 'You are a Synth' thing got me good because of the whole 'Captain Avery' thing. Scared the shit out of myself because I'd chosen the name Avery at random!
Mr. House original picture was changed because the devs thought he looked too manic. The character who was a stand in for Howard Hughes had a bit of a Walt Disney design bent to him. But this was removed.
Also read up on Walt Disney and his plans for EPCOT. It's very Mr. House
I’m absolutely convinced that Dogmeat is a synth. He’s a seemingly perfect dog 200 years into the apocalypse. Considering they make a point of showing the gorillas and establishing that the institute is capable of making synth animals it just seems like obvious conclusion. Father wanted to ensure the protagonists survival and success in finding him without directly interfering so he gave the sole survivor dogmeat to help guide them and help them cope with the wasteland mentally.
it makes a lot of sense, nice work
it was officially debunked by a dev
@@soifonbleh I mean they can debunk whatever but I stand behind it being the most logical way to rationalize a trained, healthy, and friendly dog just hanging out in your path 200 years post nuclear war
@@Demos_Jeff There is a Dogmeat in every game except New Vegas I believe, in Fallout 4 they seem to have Mutts pretty close to purebred like Rottweilers, Pit Bulls, and Huskies. My personal theory is that Dogmeat is the name of someone's old dog and the person is so pivotal to Fallout as a whole that there is a Dogmeat in every game
@@ChrisVillagomez I’m behind that for a out of universe explanation but what I’m saying is that in universe Dogmeat conveniently waiting in the protagonists path and being so well trained and willing to help is strange isn’t it?

In regards to the mannequins, there's a boat you can swim out to that was carrying a shipment of mannequins and there are logs where a crew member talks about strange noises and that the mannequins seem to move when you're not looking.
Now this is all pre-war info so they may not be just mannequins but it kind of removes the institut6e from the equation, imo.

I think the statue in Dunwitch Borers is another link to the ES world as in ESO there is a very similar statue/shine. The X0-1 retcon is better covered with 76 as team tagerty had found the X0-1 prototype plans, but no signs that they attempted to craft their own set, maybe due to lack of materials or time. So to me that would leave the only pre-war suit to be in nukaworld in 4 and perhaps because the suit had not been properly tested the BOS opted not to build the suit and or the information never got to the main channels of the BOS due to the loss of communications to them witch at this point has not been restored in 76. Great videos and content, Keep it up!

Impossible potato? We have handfuls of examples today where a plant, bug, fish, ect was thought to be extinct but was rediscovered decades later. NV is years in the future from 4 so potatoes have yet to be rediscovered in the Eastern US.
NV takes place in 2281. 4 takes place in 2287.
NV is 6 years before FO4.

With the grenade Man story, there are actually multiple raider NPCs you can encounter across the Boston area that will tell of various different encounters with the grenade man. You have to sneak up on them and eavesdrop though, you can't just walk up and talk to them.
Potato’s went extinct to the worlds knowledge however in a year post war, post the east coast brotherhood’s migration to the pentagon, they were rediscovered in a small valley in California and spread like wildfire throughout the west.

21:00 A counter argument to the theory: The institute doesn't actually have memory implanting technology, only the Railroad do. In regards to the "You are a Synth" not sure why it is so low as DiMA straight up asks you if you are during the main quest of Far From Home. Not like you could miss it.
Also I don't believe the SS is a Synth. The only Synth that has pre-war memories was Nick Valentine and even then his memories are very limited. No other Synths are shown to know about it, so it'd be unlikely that only the SS would be given such a specific and detailed memory.
I think the Ghoul Whale convo was supposed to lead players to discovering the quest "Here There be Monsters" if they wanted to explore the ocean (Great video btw!!!)

I probly shouldnt argue about this specific point of the theory, but since youre only using VATS while inside the vault, there could be some sort of vault-tec hocus pocus aiding humans within their vaults, allowing them to use VATS without pipboys (and, without breaking immersion, you cant exit the vault without equipping the pipboy).
