There’s a mod called functional post game ending. Biggest change would be the defeated faction disappears from your game. So if NCR lost, there are zero soldiers except for the Mojave Outpost and ncr tourists at the strip. All other ncr occupied locations are replaced with Securitrons (Yes man/House ending) Couple that with The living desert which adds many new roaming NPCs that’s compatible with your end game state (BOS patrols if you save them, boomers start exploring if you help them, etc) and the Run the lucky 38 mod where you open the casino for business and imo you get a good post game to enjoy that caps off your adventure.

About the birds... if you make it into the institute you can find various video feeds of the commonwealth, take a closer look...
Those feeds are recorded from some odd positions, like the "cameras' are perched on rooftops, telephone poles, power lines, and other places you'd be more likely to find birds instead of cameras...

New Vegas post-game could have been easily handled by saying something along the lines of "It will take time for these changes to take effect, do you wish to keep exploring in the mean time?" Fallout 2 gave the option to keep going or quit to main menu so don't see why they stop you finishing up missed exploring in NV.

The mask in room 1K of the Homestead Motel is an interesting case to me. While it's possible that the Pint-Sized Slasher could have made his way to Point Lookout, it could also be interpreted as someone wearing a replica as it was a popular Halloween costume pre-war, and this person had either learned the history of the mask and wanted to follow in their footsteps, or perhaps was just a deranged killer who had simply found the mask and liked it.

I suppose space by itself could be the destination, or a specific orbit inside a radiation belt. Space is full of radiation and you'd be pretty much untouchable there, aside of the Zetans.
Ghouls need very little or none at all of water and food so they are good for supplies. Oxygen might become an issue, but Im sure pre-war america had decent co2 scrubbers. Actually come to think of it, since ghouls need not eat, their bodies have no caloric intake and thus nothing to metabolize their oxygen with, making breathing also probably optional. I don't recall any lore ghouls breathing needs thouhg.

Mind you, although many sci-fi movies and shows seem to assume that 'radiation belts' can occur pretty much everywhere in space or in a solar system, reality is a bit different - radiation belts actually occur only around planets and are caused by their magnetic fields. So those ghouls would have to stay within their rockets, not exactly what I would call 'paradise'.

I know it's not impossible for Bethesda to merge them together in their games, but I just feel like that would be shitting on the foundations laid by the initial creators. Regarding post-game content:
I agree with you, a good story has to end, the ending should invoke feelings about the journey and worldbuilding with such magnitude couldn't be possible with post-game.
BUT in the end New Vegas is still a game, a big open world game at that and cutting of the rest of the game because "Well, The End, you can go home now" is not cool to many people since they want to continue playing. Of course they could just load up a save before the battle but then there's the problem with "Yo, everyone is waiting for the battle to start, where the frick is the Courier?".
Same problem in my opinion but the situation is swapped.
Either end the game's story and the gameplay or stop the story entirely and continue the gameplay, which one is worse?
I personally like playing Fallout more than ending it. For me the journey is my goal (aka. Fallout is the friends I made along the way) and I don't like to be cut of like that. Had that problem when I played FO3 the first time (before Broken Steel) and I was kinda sad that my game just ended right then and there, I wanted to continue playing.
So I can understand both sides of it, I just prefer being able to continue my playthrough instead of the cut-off at the end.

On the topic of intelligent giant rats. Did anybody else discover the intelligent deathclaw with the child voice in fallout 3? You can only find it if you've got the enclave deathclaw controller from broken steel. It is in an unmarked location cave, it will be hostile and nonvocal if not equiped the enclave device. If you do find it it will walk around and when you click to talk instead of the camera just zooming in it will speak to you and follow you around, but won't leave the cave. Seems to have a child intelligence like in fallout2. The voice is either sally from mother ship zeta or another from little lamplight.
Edit: also need animal friend and child at heart perks.

In the case of New Vegas doing post game content would necessarily require them to take a strong stance on which choice is best for the Mojave, which might discourage players from one path or other if they know that the post game would scold them for choosing poorly.

For the cannibals, you could argue that most of the raiders from fallout 3 could be cannibals due to the excessive amount of chopped up bodies laying around the capital wastes. There’s really only a few of reasons to string up bodies like that, and that’s to intimidate, general sadism, or they are draining the blood from the bodies.

    New Vegas Post-Game...
Because of all the different outcomes for all the factions that exist out there, they would have had to create a rather high amount of variations of the world in the post Hoover Dam state.
Biggest change being who the Courier sided with... Did the NCR or Legion win, or did neither win, did the NCR get kicked out by House or the Courier siding with Yes Man. But then you get to all the smaller locales around the Mojave, what did the Khans do, did the Fiends get to raid Camp McCarran, Did the Omertas get to carry out their attempt to take over the Strip.... All the things like that end up needed multiple variations of the world to handle how it would look like after Hoover Dam...

But actually Necropolis is in the west of Vegas, and the rockets were flying east bound, they couldn't be going to necropolis, maybe, just maybe, they were going to Virginia instead, you know that how much player had nuke that place in 2176, it would be a prefect place they were going to if they had heard there is a place like that existed.

I for the longest time didnt like that you couldnt continue New Vegas at the end, but as I grown older since its initial release it definitely is a better idea to some extent. That said Im also glad you mentioned Cyberpunk 2077 as one of your favorite game stories. That game while a mess at launch and for a bit afterwards is still one of my favorites.

New Vegas doesn't need post game content just as much as it doesn't need a sequel. The war is over, the sun sets in the west and the courier is a nameless legend that shaped a generation and the future of the those generations. We still talking about how amazing it is years later, we wouldn't be talking about how amazing the aftermath is. It stands alone as a great and the dlcs are enough extra content to build up the end. Everything was done right. You don't need a sequel, one doesn't very well make stimpacks out of barrel cacti and other improbabilities..

It takes about 3 days to fly to the moon with modern tech, probably about the same with Fallout tech. They could've gone there, but I would guess general "space" would be the best they could have managed.
Realistically they probably just semi-crashed in the Mojave.

  • @The_Lucent_Archangel

Honestly can't agree on the lack of a post game. The creators also cited technical issues and their timelines, which make for less glamorous reasons than embellishing their own storytelling ability. I don't think 3 suffered due to Broken Steel actually continuing the story after the "ending", whereas the other DLCs could be completed in any order with relation to the base game. One of the reasons I consider NV a bit overblown is appropriately because the honchos and those working for them got a head full of steam and tried to throw way too much into the pot. What was left over managed to stick and they got extraordinarily lucky to be so lionized for a game that could just as easily have flopped.
I'd also argue that anyone calling the Mojave story "major" doesn't have much sense of scale. Slavers and Californians fight over a dam and water/power source while a Pre-War magnate either gains the most powerful robot army in the local region or doesn't - neither of which results in a particularly large footprint in terms of consequences. 1, 2, and 3 all had the specter of a second doomsday looming for the former US or entire world, not just some dust-up in the desert. It's also why 4 has little in the way of stakes, because how do the events in Boston affect the big picture? Similar reasoning why that London mod doesn't interest me in the slightest.
