  • The Robobrain is a combination of biological and mechanical components, designed for a number of different reasons both militant and domestic, but who came up with the design, how practical are they, and what issues does converting a living human brain into the CPU of a machine have on the converters and the converted?

@@evanharrison4054 The Think Tank and robobrains are basically the same thing as far as im concerned except the think tank have way less practical bodies. The robobrains on far harbor are basically the same as the think tank, Jeezabel from automatron has a personality (A horrendously annoying one, but still a personality.). So even if the person they were originally is gone a robobrain is still capable of realizing what it is and the fate its been given, knowing that its old self is lost for ever (thats why they had to wipe the brains constantly). That realization would be horrendous, and thats what the think tank doesn't have. The think tank isn't that bad because they are so far gone that none of them even realise anything is wrong. Sure, you could argue that most robobrains are like that too, and they probably are, but we know all 6 members of the think tank are completely gone, but there were hundreds, if not more, robobrains made; id have to assume amongst that many, with the technology as unstable as it was, at least one of them must have figure out something was horribly wrong. In the end though its just the existential idea of being a brain stuck in a jar that I think is worse then death regardless of the lore.

@@tarquilkorris2563 - I’m personally conflicted about the state of microprocessors in Fallout. They do exist and are wide spread (at least militarily) and have successfully given rise to Mr.Handy and assaultron levels of AI (general Atomics compared to Robco) while Robobrains seem to only partially give marginal versatility improvements via fine manipulation and faster processing which is still better used in administrative roles instead of combat… (though I guess it’s because they never got past all the testing stages) I don’t disagree that organic brains still have greater potential for processing speed, if not creativity, but I still wonder about how micro processors compare to ours, because super computers in fallout seem to still be more successful at getting results than ours are… perhaps the fallout world was not practiced or had time to refine the scale and efficiency of miniaturization before the resource shortages and then wars occurred which is why most of their super computers and other such auto tech is stationary/ out of sight? Then again, I wonder if it’s cannon that humanity had help by reverse engineering from and interrogating aliens…..

Honestly sounds really scary imagining my memories and personality being flushed and washed out of my brain so to speak. One fear I have is the idea of essentially losing my consciousness, what essentially makes me..me either through death or amnesia or some other method where I am no longer who I currently am so hearing that the brains inside Robo-Brians had everything about them removed and at best (or worse) they could develop an inferior and deranged personality sounds horrifying to me.
Also, due to recently reading a Doom Patrol comic, this made me think of the DC character Robot Man who is similar to the Robo-Brains in that he has his human brain inside the body of a machine though his body is completely humanoid and near identical to a humans in shape though clearly robotic in appearance. Given the later retcon that the Chief, the founder of the Doom Patrol who personally saved his brain was actually responsible for the accident that left everything but his brain irreparably damaged, Robot Man should be thankful that the Chief never played a Fallout game, lest he be inspired to scrub out his original personality for a perfectly obedient slave though even with him retaining his personality and memories, he still has to struggle living in a lifeless metal shell as well as phantom limb syndrome which for him is brought to the extreme because he still feels bodily sensations he no longer has which are maddening to him in their own right. Makes me wonder if the Robo-Brains that kept their personalities and memories suffer something similar, do they remember the various sensations and bodily functions their bodies used to feel or has that been completely forgotten?
Honestly, I just never want to be a brain in a jar or a robot body of any shape or form, find me a method of immortality that allows me to still be me, I don't want to be a trashcan on treads, a ghoul or a super mutant.

The terrifying thing about the RobCo Robobrain project in Boston is not only were they using unwilling prisoners but they also had a preference for using the more unstable ones. Which explains why those Robobrains ended up being quite murderous. Like many pre-war science experiments, I have no idea how they thought that was gonna be a good idea.
