You weren't doing anything wrong. The workflow and UX is dreadful on this system. :-D To be fair, this video does a good job of stepping people through the ungodly process. LoL
Being able to have my headshot clients scroll through on my iPad and choose the images they want to be edited/touched up right after rate session (By star rating) is going to save me hours! this is fantastic thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you still catching up what great free canon software. I was only using my iPhone. After being overseas for two months and the computer said therre were no images, I am glad I googled and found the solution.
The problem is with the tablet connection is,when the client watching the images in full screen and the photographer taking pictures, the new pictures taken in that moment cant be seen unless you go back to thumbnail mode and again back to the full screen mode.I dont know if this true in every device.Any other way for fast wireless tethering on tablet without the need to to use the speedlight hot shoe because is needed for the trasmitter.Maybe there is a third party app can use with canon 5d mark iv and be able to see photos full screen all the time.Nice video.Thank you!
I have tried this several times with no success. I end up having to keep disconnecting to get out of it, please advise I have canon 80d thank you for any help you can give.
Thank you! Could you also show or write how to set the application (on a laptop, i.e. 1 part of the movie) to use only an additional monitor? I would only like to preview on the computer screen and still save the photos on the camera. Is it possible?
I cannot get this to work, I be able WiFi, when I select wi-Di function it says WiFi on, options are disconnect, exit, nectbis confirm set, next is error details. I ok to confirm set but nothing happens. Please help. Thank you so much.
What is the OS on your iPad? You can't seem to use Camera connect with the iPad with an older OS. I'm using a Canon 5D IV, but I have 12.5.6. on my iPad. Highest I can update to. Otherwise... I'm just not doing it right. It gets as far as "Pairing with the computer in progress" but it never goes farther. When I go to the Canon Camera Connect app on the iPad, it shows the name of the 5D IV, but the small wifi icon, next to the camera name isn't active.
Is it possible to transfer the files on JPG but still shoot in RAW? maybe by shooting in one card in raw and in the other card in jpg? thanks a lot, great video
Hi! Thanks for watching and commenting. It's definitely possible, like you said- if you shoot one card in raw and the other in jpeg you can choose from in the app which card you'll transfer images from. You can even switch back and forth from one card to the other. As for the max distance I've never tried it scientifically myself but I've heard at least 30 feet works without any issues. Hope that helps! Thanks again :)
Hi @Scott its me again. I bought a MBP to teathering with canon 5d mark IV. I want to use Lightroom classic. Followed your steps but I stuck at 4:34 . When I shoot a picture, absolutely nothing happens on Lightroom, only the Eos utility pops up the preview photo
Hi! Is Lightroom's auto import folder accurate to where the photos are being imported to through EOS utility? I honestly haven't used this in a while so I'm not sure if anything else has been updated/changed but I would think if that auto import folder is accurate, and you just ignore/minimize EOS utility that it should work. Maybe double check where EOS utility is saving the photos and try to re-link that. Let me know if that doesn't help.
Scott, thank you for the video. With the new camera connect app, does anything changes? I'm trying to get away from wired tethering during studio shoots and would like to explore more of the wifi method. Your advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the video I do weddings where the audience love to watch photos on the tv screens as i shoot I have the camranger 1st edition that tether to the ipad. Kindly advise how tether to tv screen can be done. Fm
Great video thanks! I am doing some mobile studio shots for the school fete. Looking for the best way to have an assistant show people images to choose to buy, whilst I continue to shoot. I think Lightroom is more flexible for this but looks slow transfer. Have you found a way to speed this up since releasing this video? Thanks for your help
劉建宏 Thanks for watching :) Do you mean like displaying the image/live view edge to edge on the screen (like full screen mode on RUclips for example)? That's an interesting point. I think that would be a really nice feature! I'll definitely suggest it to them and hope they add it in sometime :)
劉建宏 Ah yeah, that's really annoying. Considering some of the things they updated recently I was surprised that wasn't fixed. :( I'd also love to be able to see the histogram in live view. Hopefully soon!
I can connect to my computer but when my camera goes to sleep the wifi connection is gone, I have to go back in and delete all previous information and reconnect. This was the same doing it with both quick connect and the other, do you have any tips? I am connecting to a Mac laptop. Thanks!
Hi! Unfortunately I'm not sure what's happening there... for me, if the camera goes to sleep or even if I completely disconnect and reconnect again, I can re-use the same settings and don't have to delete or start from 0 each time... If I'm able to recreate the problem I'll try and find a way around it and let you know though.
Jim Haviland no problem! Through Lightroom like this it takes about 15+ seconds to send a RAW file 😳 On the iPad you can view them full screen but it doesn't auto update to the next image when you take it so you'd have to go back to the thumbnails. You can scroll back and forth full screen between the images that were already transferred when you went full screen though and the RAW files are sent to the iPad almost instantly as well.
Hi, it is possible to save raw photo on cf and jpg low quality on sd and trasmitt these jpg on iPad in real time? Please how I can do this with canon 5D mark IV ? 🙏🏻
Why did you not cover the remote-shooting part? I have done it last night with my Android Phone and it worked fine, except that the image you get is so tiny that the whole thing is not worth it. So I was curious to see how big the image is on an iPad?
***** Sorry about that! I do have a few other videos covering the app more in depth (including a thorough overview of the remote shooting) if you want to check them out. I'll put links for them here. They're screen capture videos though so you can't see the size of the iPad but the images are more or less full screen so the size of the image will just depend on the size of your iPad. Here are the other videos I have on the app (it's a playlist): ruclips.net/p/PLkj51imShZ9ouxscwd-nDFJZm1ozj98YP
Can you do live-view on cell, tablet and computer at the same time? You only showed wirelessly from one at a time. What is the maximum distance to view live-view & take the shots?
angelisone Good questions! I'm fairly certain you can only connect to one device at a time (definitely not tablet/phone and computer at the same time because they're different choices in the camera's wifi menu settings). I'll check it out though and get back to you to let you know for sure. As for the distance, I'll try and check into that as well. :)
Scott Dumas, Canon has made no improvement in regarding to live-view. Just like Sony WILL NOT allow live-view onto a computer, while all their cameras are live-view based. Our Canon EOS-1D X and EOS-1D X Mark II have defective sensors by shooting and using live-view. After one year, you are down on your lucks because Canon is not going to fix/replace for free. Be careful not to use live-view much, it will kill the cell/tablet/computer battery really quick and heat up the sensor very fast. If you think you got dust in the sensor, you really have thousands on burnt sensors. What many beginners to professionals DO NOT know that these 35mm format (1/1 & reduction) systems are not really video cameras. For that reason, they can not be sued.
Hi! I don't believe you can do that at the same time unfortunately. There may be a way to do it with a more complex setup connecting multiple monitors, but not a simple way for two tablets :(
The app on the phone is called "Canon Camera Connect" or something along those lines. EOS Utility app for the computer would probably be downloaded from Canon's website, a google search should bring up the latest version for you :)
Scott Dumas I called Canon and apparently they do not have this app for the OS that I had on my computer that is why I could not find it. Nuances of upgrading your OS
yohannsphotography videography do you mean how is the video with the canon connect app? It works well. It doesn't lag and pretty much functions like using the LCD screen on the camera including touch focus. It's been really handy as an easy on the go monitor for video. For editing on a smartphone i would probably recommend the Lightroom mobile app. There's a pretty high level of control very similar to the desktop version. There are plenty of other apps too but I'm not sure if Canon makes one for editing, I don't think they do. Their desktop application for raw processing is called digital photo professional and I wouldn't recommend it haha 😬
Scott do you know if this works the same way when the camera is not in live view? For example, me walking around shooting a scene and an assistant following me around refreshing the preview on the iPad.
I believe it does, but can't remember 100% off the top of my head. If you need me to check just let me know :) I'm also testing out the CamFi wireless tethering system now which seems to be pretty cool for tethering on the go, regardless of the camera you use :)
thanks for these videos.that's sad though . So I started a new idea which is basically a mobile studio at events. I need a way to showcase pictures in real time to drag attention.
does anknow to get the authentication code through to the canon i mage gateway on the 5D IV???? its saying press a cloud button lol which i cant find and i'll get a numeric code through to enter into the program on the pc.....lets face it itotally lost
Can you shoot both Raw and jpg while just sending the jpg to the computer for short time transfer viewing? also, with cable tethering, what cable do you use?
shanghai night Yep! You can shoot both jpeg and raw and choose within the app which card you're reading images from and even switch back and forth (effectively choosing either jpeg or raw). The images load speed is almost identical though and they don't auto save to your device so I don't think it will affect you too much. When tethered with a cable I use Tether Tools cables and accessories.
can you do this with your tablet as well....shot raw and jpeg but only send the jpeg?.....bonus question is it possible to set up the wireless tether to your iPad...but only send the jpeg version of a locked file...for example your shooting a client and you go snap snap snappy snap.... snap some more "ooo your gonna like this one" ... you lock the file and it sends only that jpeg to the tablet. this give you the option of checking your work only when you need it and saves space on your ipad
Manuel T that's a good question about simultaneous wired and wireless tethering, I'll look into it and get back to you. Personally I use Capture One for wired tethering and there's a really functional app connected to that I use for the iPad while tethered to the computer. Also, the photos aren't automatically saved to the iPad but you can save them individually or many at a time if you want to.
I’ve used it before and it’s pretty straight forward. Instead of clicking the shutter button your camera, you click the one on your screen to take a photo. I must emphasize though that once you’re using Remote shooting, everything appears as it would in live view and not how you would see it through the viewfinder. You can start and stop recordings as well...and the best part of it is the touchscreen auto-focus, just as you would use the touchscreen of a smartphone camera to focus on a subject.
Hi! I'm not sure of the absolute max, I can test it outdoors once the rain stops in a few days, but I've been able to use it up to about 20 meters (over 60 feet) between rooms in the house with my computer.
Jaime Loyola Thank you! As far as I know it shouldn't be a problem on any ios device. The only differences should be what functions are allowed by the camera you're using (some cameras can't stream video for example)
I’m absolutely blown away that he would not include how big the files are that you were transferring. Whether they were RAW or JPEG once going to the iPad.
My apologies for that. I did make a note in the video description afterwards because I missed it in the video. I assumed any 5DIV users watching this would know about the file size but still should have included as much information as possible. Sorry again!
No worries brother, I enjoyed the rest of it! I didn't know if raw files or jpgs were used in the Canon app. And if jpgs were used which ones. L, M, or S.
So if you have an i pad and an i phone do you have to set up each one individually just make sure you have the app on each device? Also say you set it up to your phone and use it when you are done do you turn the wifi off on your camera or leave it on and if you turn it off do you have to go through the whole process to set it back up again or does it just go on automatically when you want to use it?
msmartinigirl1 You have to pair it with a certain device and can't pair it with multiple devices at the same time. If you disconnect from one (close the app or turn off the camera/wifi) then you'll have to do those few steps again to connect. When I'm in my house my computer, iPad and iPhone are all defaulted to my home wifi network so it won't automatically connect when I turn the wifi on the camera, but if my computer etc isn't already connected to some network, then it will automatically connect when I turn wifi on on the camera. There are 3 settings for each option (connect to smartphone or eos utility for example) so you can set one each for different devices. Passwords will be remembered though so each time it's quick to connect after the first time. I personally turn off wifi when I'm done to save battery, although I'm not certain if it drains battery when it's turned on but not actually connected to a device. If it does, it's a much slower drain. I hope that answers everything! Let me know if it doesn't!! :) Thanks for watching.
@@nicolazucca At least it used to be in the app, but I haven't used it in a while so can't be sure. I'll check it out when I get a chance and try to get back to you
Nicola Zucca so just checking now, it only sends one photo basically, when shooting raw+jpg, it doesn’t show doubles in the app and when you save it saves the jpg. You can choose if you want raw files to save as raw or jpeg though, and when setting it to jpeg, it seems like there’s no difference between having it set to send jpeg only. It’s different than it used to be but the end result seems to be the same
Hi Scott, I see you mention you're using Sierra in a comment below is that right? I just can't get Utility 3 to install properly on my (latest) version of Sierra..finally got Utility 2 to work but I don't think that supports the 5D 4's wifi capabilities...
Hi! I currently have Sierra 10.12.6 (not sure if that's the latest but I haven't updated super recently so probably not). My current version is still working for me but I usually try to avoid updating immediately for those reasons. If there is an issue hopefully it's fixed soon!
Leonard van der Kuijl I'm sorry, I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean by "camera is not recessed"... are you having issues connecting? Via wifi only or also with USB? I'm using Sierra so I can't comment directly about El Captain's performance but I haven't heard anything in particular. Let me know more detail and hopefully I can help! :)
Thanks for the video. Very informative. I have a question. I tried to shoot tethered with a Canon 5Dm4 and a mac laptop using Lightroom. I couldn't get it to work. In the middle of the screen was a box that kept switching between "EOS Canon 5D Mark IV" and "No camera detected." It would spend about one second on each message. Any suggestion on how to fix this?
Thanks for watching! :) That sounds very strange. I have no problems keeping my mark IV connected- if it keeps going in and out like that it sounds like somethings up with the signal. Are you using the mark IV's wifi or an existing network? If an existing network, the signal could be a little weak? If not there is the possibility something is up with your camera's wifi... have you tried connecting it to a phone or iPad? If so, were you able to connect then? If that's ok then it helps narrow down the issue. Let me know! :)
can i set it to transfer only the jpeg to the ipad but keep the raw on the camera? or it will transfer everything? also which card does it send from? thanks!
***** Hey sorry just a correction on this, it seems that there is actually an option in the settings on the app that allow you to choose which card it will show images from, so if you're shooting jpeg to one card and raw to the other you can choose whichever card you want to view files from. But if you're shooting only raw there doesn't seem to be a way to show jpeg previews on the ipad, it will only show the actual files from the card. The raw files show up in the app almost instantly anyway so I don't think there's any drawback to it unless you want to start saving images to your device.
***** Hey if you're still interested, I put up the review/walkthrough of the Canon Camera Connect app, you can check it out here: ruclips.net/video/8-l_g1COAos/видео.html
***** Haha, a very hard choice. If you don't need the speed or possibly SLIGHTLY better AF system/larger tougher body... the mark IV is a wonderful camera. I've never before enjoyed shooting in live view until using the dual pixel AF on this camera and there's a lot of other tiny features that make it such a pleasure to use like anti-flicker and the button on the back to quickly cycle between AF area modes. Definitely can't knock the 1dx though so if you're looking for the fastest and toughest that's a great choice especially considering it's nearly the same price now haha.
Hey. Great Video. Thanks. Can one download the Canon Camera Connect app on the Mac Book Pro from the App Store and tether using that instead of the Eos Utility?
+117353624541120552858 Thanks so much :) Unfortunately no, it's not available on the MacBook App Store, so the closest you could get to that setup is a larger iPad.
But what if I just want the latest photo to be seen in fullscreen? Without someone operating a mobile device. Any solution for that? At the moment I am sending my photos to an FTP server, let LR scan it with the help of a plugin and then use an screen mirroring app to get the lightroom full screen preview of the latest photo on the tablet. Feels awfully complicated and of course LR takes a while. But after the shooting all the photos are already there, so that's convenient. Still an app that just scans the local FTP server for photos and automatically showing the newest in full screen would be much easier.
+113074542366671536335 I'll have to make a video on it sometime but the mobile app that works with Capture One is actually really quite good for that I think. You can choose which options to allow or not allow from the tablet (star ratings, adjustments etc) and the images preview full screen and automatically update *to the best of my memory* ...of course you have to be actually tethered into Capture One to use it, but I remember really liking the app. There are a couple other wifi tethering accessories that might help too, but I haven't had a chance to look into them much.
My friend wrote me an app that monitors specified folder and displays latest photo full screen. It's super fast and convenient to use. There's couple downsides to that, first is the FTP server is annoyingly complicated, I wish there was easy way to just move the pics without DPP as it seems to be slow. Also the app uses Windows RAW codec, meaning it only supports the RAW formats that windows supports. Currently 5D4 is not supported (I'm hoping they add it soon), so have to use JPEG to use the app. I haven't tried what happens if I shoot RAW+JPEG. Optimal solution would be if I can set to shoot RAW+JPEG, but it'd FTP/transfer only the JPEG over to the computer. For preview that's plenty good enough, the app would display it perfect, the transfer would be faster than RAW transfer, and I'd still have the RAWs when I actually edit the pics. Do you know good way to set up the RAW+JPEG with option to transfer only the jpeg?
Well if you just want to display the latest photo in a windows folder you can do that with Lightroom (Folder Watch) or with the free program IrfanView (Options / Hotfolder), last one doesn't do the newest raws but would work for the jpgs. To get the images from the 5D if you don't want to use FTP you can setup Canon's EOS Utility to connect with your 5D in the same WLAN and let the files save to a specified folder. You can also set it up to just send the jpgs onto the PC and keep the RAWs on the camera's memory card for speed. Switching to Capture One (any buying it) just for that feature is sadly not an option for me.
Kendo Photography To shoot RAW+JPEG and transfer only the JPEG I believe you can just set the RAW to save to one card and JPEG to the other. The ipad app allows you to switch which card it will read from and I believe when connected to DPP or the computer by some other method it should send the files on the main card, so just set the main card to be the one recording jpegs.
Cool, thanks! If you use the Canon software on the iPad to select images, is there a way to sync those selections with the raw files on camera when those get imported into Lightroom for editing later? Thanks for the tips because this is exactly what I was looking to do.
Thanks for watching! I don't think there's any automated way to do that unfortunately... you may be able to give star ratings in the app that might import when you load them into Lightroom, but I haven't tried it to be honest so can't say for sure.
Hello Scott, can you confirm to me: I want to use the camera in workshops where what the camera sees, the computer also sees. So, currently I use Usb and Live view in EOS utility. Can you confirm that if I turn Live view and use it via wifi, it will apear on my computer in EOS Utility just like if it was connected by USB? I have a projector connected to the laptop and camera connected to the laptop so everyone sees what the camera is "seeing".
Thanks so much for watching! It does work in live view on the computer in EOS Utility. I've never used that feature with the USB but even using wifi it seems to work well. There's a slight lag of less than a second but it's hardly noticeable. Hope that helps!
Hi Scott, Nice tutorial. I have a question: When you´re tethering images to your iPad, are you actually transferring those files to it? or just a preview? How does it work? . Thank you.
Daniel Morales Hey thanks for watching! At first they're just previews (though you're able to zoom in quite far and still get a clear image) but you do have the option to go in manually and save the files (jpg or raw). I have another video that goes more in depth to the app if you'd like to watch :) There's a link in the video description for this video! Thanks again :)
Thank you , I really find myself really unhappy with Camranger constantly log in out only when I use it with laptop PC and lightroom on I phone and Ipad not to many issues. I really believe tether is the only way to go for quick download with Lightroom or Phase one especially for printing because I need to insert Watermark logos for clients. Your video is really help full for showing images into a IPad for client view. and I like your suggestion.
Dude, this is GREAT! Thank you for posting! 2 Questions: 1) Have you tried testing Photo Mechanic instead of Lr? I feel like the import process is what likely slows it down. I have a client who would like previews on a big screen during commercial shoots and I’d probably go that route as I only import the final keepers to Lr. 2) Can you select Raw+JPEG shooting and change the JPEG size to small so it transfers faster? We will download the Raws traditionally and only use JPEG previews for proofing. Any insight appreciated since I don’t have a 5DMk4 to test it with!
Hey! Thanks so much :) And great questions. I haven't used Photo Mechanic myself, though I probably should as I've heard quite a lot about it. And I'm honestly not sure about the second question but I will try it out and get back to you, I'm interested myself as well. If I forget to update you on that, feel free to get in touch with me directly through facebook or email, scottdumasphotography@gmail.com. Thanks again!
Scott Dumas thank you so much! And definitely check out Photo Mechanic. It’s blazing fast even with 45MB Raw files! This allows you to make selections swiftly and keep that Lr Catalog from bloating too much. 😉
Hey, so sorry it took me so long to get back to you on this. I tried out setting EOS Utility to only import the jpegs to the computer when shooting RAW+jpeg, and set the jpeg quality to a couple of the smaller settings and it still took around 6 seconds to show up in lightroom, faster than in this video, but still not blazing fast. Anyway, setting up the file transfer can be done pretty easily through EOS Utility. You can select to save the images to your computer only or to the card as well, and also have the option to save only the jpegs to the computer when shooting in RAW+jpeg mode. So, at least that part can be done. Hope it helps and sorry for the delay!
**update reading is key** read the comments so never mind i found the video can you test remote shooting from the ipad....i would like to know how much control you have over your camera via the ipad ...maybe nfc and gps data as well...
As long as you can reconnect after that I wouldn't worry. I'd recommend you power off when changing lenses anyway and it's what I always do so I never noticed that
Hi Scott, noce video thanks ! it helps! I wonder how you're doing if you re shooting events and want to email the images righ away ? Canon connect does not seem to have a share button ? moreover it asks you to disconnect the fro the camera to open the image in another appli ;( Do you have a solution for such situation ? thanks
+113866218995257362276 Thanks so much! Glad to help. Unfortunately like you said there's no share option in the app. I personally never deliver images that quickly even if it's an event (I'll at least take them home and run them quickly through Capture One first). I know with the 5D IV at least you can also choose to transfer the images to an FTP server but I've never touched that. If I had to do it, I'd probably just bring a computer with me and take the images off the card, run them through C1 and put them on a USB or something for the client right at that location. Hope that helps, or I hope someone who works with that workflow sees this and can chime in. Sorry if it doesn't really help! Thanks again for watching :)
I like to know if tethering to ipad or phone do you see all the setting on your phone what you see on live view screen. My most important piece Histogram in live view that I like to see on the iPad or phone , can you do that? can you please make that video to show all the live view setting can be seen on iPad or phone. Please. I don't have camera so I like to know before I can buy. Thanks in advance.
Sahajpal Rai Hey, thanks for watching. You see most of the settings that are visible in live view and there's a good deal of control from the app but one thing that seems to be left out at the moment is the histogram. Considering the amount of other information they show I'm a bit surprised that isn't included. I'll look into it some more and try to make a more in depth video of the app sometime soon.
Brett Lemon Unfortunately you can't at the moment. You have to back out of the full screen to the gallery of images and then choose one again. You can swipe back and forth while full screen but only between images that were already loaded when you entered full screen, not images that have been shot and imported since then. I've contacted Canon about that multiple times so hopefully they'll address it in a future update.
You know, I would have to try it to be sure, but if you set up a Capture One Session, then choose the "Capture" folder as your destination folder for the images in the EOS Utility settings, it just might work. It does automatically add them in Capture One as I copy and paste raw files into that Capture folder so theoretically it's the same idea. I'll try and test it out tomorrow! If it does work, which I think it would, that would actually be a pretty sweet little setup (besides the long import time).
Scott Dumas thanks for replying back yeah I do have cameron hss240-c ttl which was working on my canon t3i but not working on my canon 5d mark 4 which I bought it last week
Nic Barella Haha, thank you :) Believe it or not I was actually using iPhone headphones as my "lavalier" mic in this video, so it picked up so much extra noise (i.e. super loud swallowing lol). Thanks for being patient through it!
been struggling for a while to link my 5D MK4 to my pc, was just doing something wrong, you got it up and working for me, thanks a lot man.....
You weren't doing anything wrong. The workflow and UX is dreadful on this system. :-D To be fair, this video does a good job of stepping people through the ungodly process. LoL
The disadvantage with Canon aop you can't view the image big enough without going to thumbnails back and forth, back and forth
Being able to have my headshot clients scroll through on my iPad and choose the images they want to be edited/touched up right after rate session (By star rating) is going to save me hours! this is fantastic thank you so much for sharing!
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching :)
Every time I can't sleep I watch this video. Works every time.
Ewout Honig why thank you, you're so kind 😜
Thank you so much! Straight to the point and extremely informative! Love that you showed the time difference of photo upload
Instablaster.
Nicely done video. Appreciate the economy of words as its less confusing. Thanks for taking the time to post.
Thanks so much! :) I appreciate it
Can I use the canon connect app on my tablet… because my phone is to old to support the app
Shuttersnitch for iPad works so much better on my 5d mk2. Hoping for a 5d iv update.
tobiah tayo never used it... if they release an update I'll definitely give it a go 👍😊
Thank you so much for this useful and crystal clear video!
Excellent video. i now have laptop and main computer linked to camera, and have made comprehensive notes to follow another time...
Thank you for showing both ways to tether, much appreciated! Very clearly presented.
Tira Khan Thank you!! :)
I'd like it to shoot to an iPad at different location is that possible??
Thanks for the video
I do weddings where the audience love to watch photos on the tv screens as i shoot
I have the camranger 1st edition that tether to the ipad.
Kindly advise how tether to tv screen can be done.

I have a canon 720hs. It connects perfectly with my iPad, I can’t figure out where the photos are going. HELP
That's a really helpful realworld demo, thanks.
Thanks so much for watching! :)
Hi Scott Excelent video!! I appreciate it ;-). Thanks a lot for taking the trouble.
Arca Swiss P0?
Steven Scholten Thanks so much! And yep! I love the p0, so so easy to use.
Nice Video Thx. Unfortunately, the picture just taken can not be displayed as full-screen... disappointed (Canon Camera Connect)
劉建宏 Thanks for watching :) Do you mean like displaying the image/live view edge to edge on the screen (like full screen mode on RUclips for example)? That's an interesting point. I think that would be a really nice feature! I'll definitely suggest it to them and hope they add it in sometime :)
thanks for the reply. Actually I mean the photo into "images on camera" Shows full-screen of the new shot ^^
Like this video in 8:16 (full-screen) Constantly updated new photo
劉建宏 Ah yeah, that's really annoying. Considering some of the things they updated recently I was surprised that wasn't fixed. :( I'd also love to be able to see the histogram in live view. Hopefully soon!
Yes! Hopefully soon ^^
Is there a way to make the last photo taken appear Large on the iPad and continue from there with each subsequent photo appearing Large on the screen?
I wish there was, one of the downfalls of the Canon app. If you use something like the CamFi with their app, it will do that for you though
@@ScottDumas Man, that is a HUGE Bummer. Thanks though!
Thank you so much. Am gonna try it and get back
I can connect to my computer but when my camera goes to sleep the wifi connection is gone, I have to go back in and delete all previous information and reconnect.
Thanks for this - how quickly do RAW files appear? - Can previews on iPad appear full screen rather than having to click thumbnail ?
Jim Haviland no problem! Through Lightroom like this it takes about 15+ seconds to send a RAW file 😳
On the iPad you can view them full screen but it doesn't auto update to the next image when you take it so you'd have to go back to the thumbnails.
Here are the other videos I have on the app (it's a playlist):

Can I use Bluetooth instead of wifi , I find out wifi keeps disconnecting especially on smartphones
Scott Dumas, got the distance on shooting with live-view?
And how long did the camera last under lie-view unit it shutdown?
Great vid! Do you know any alternative to canon’s app that automatically shows the latest photo?
If you have some other accessory, like CamFi or Case Air, I believe they have their own apps to work with wireless tethering.
Hey Scott, can you connect multiple tablets to one camera - eg. having one tablet for an assistant and one for a client?
Hi! I don't believe you can do that at the same time unfortunately. There may be a way to do it with a more complex setup connecting multiple monitors, but not a simple way for two tablets :(
@@ScottDumas Thanks for the reply Scott
Where can I find EOS utility app? I searched entire app store and cannot find it
The app on the phone is called "Canon Camera Connect" or something along those lines. EOS Utility app for the computer would probably be downloaded from Canon's website, a google search should bring up the latest version for you :)
Scott Dumas I called Canon and apparently they do not have this app for the OS that I had on my computer that is why I could not find it. Nuances of upgrading your OS
@@abhawna Ah! That'll do it. I always hold off upgrading my OS until something like this happens too haha
How is the video like and what type of photo editor can u use for iPhone ? does canon has an app for editing?
yohannsphotography videography do you mean how is the video with the canon connect app? It works well. It doesn't lag and pretty much functions like using the LCD screen on the camera including touch focus. It's been really handy as an easy on the go monitor for video.
For editing on a smartphone i would probably recommend the Lightroom mobile app. There's a pretty high level of control very similar to the desktop version. There are plenty of other apps too but I'm not sure if Canon makes one for editing, I don't think they do. Their desktop application for raw processing is called digital photo professional and I wouldn't recommend it haha 😬
And do you know the max distance that the device has to be from the camera?
Scott do you know if this works the same way when the camera is not in live view? For example, me walking around shooting a scene and an assistant following me around refreshing the preview on the iPad.
I believe it does, but can't remember 100% off the top of my head. If you need me to check just let me know :) I'm also testing out the CamFi wireless tethering system now which seems to be pretty cool for tethering on the go, regardless of the camera you use :)
What software do u have?
Is it lightroom classic?
This was quite a while ago, before all those different versions were released so I suppose it's closest to LR Classic
can it be set to full screen mode. that is. viewing full res in real time
You can view full screen but it won't automatically update as you continue shooting
thanks for these videos.that's sad though . So I started a new idea which is basically a mobile studio at events. I need a way to showcase pictures in real time to drag attention.
I never tethered before. Can you continue takiing shots while it taking abit to upload to the computer? or does it interfere?
Yep! You can just keep on shooting and it will catch up :)
Cano you do this with the iphone 8 or iphone X at your earliest convenience? Due to the newer iphone display technology
JohnAllen Magee absolutely! I'll be getting the X as soon as it's available :)
Is your camera floating?? so cool!
It's magic! :-P
Why oh why can't the camera and the iPad communicate without outside wifi
You should be able to create a hotspot from the camera to connect to, I don't think you need an outside/existing wifi network
I prefer it has the option to be able to use with WFT-E7 for further distance range.
Jackie Tan Yeah I'm actually not able to find any distance rating on the built in wifi, I'll have to check that out, I'm curious just how good it is.
does anknow to get the authentication code through to the canon i mage gateway on the 5D IV???? its saying press a cloud button lol which i cant find and i'll get a numeric code through to enter into the program on the pc.....lets face it itotally lost
Thanks for making this video Scott. Good info to know.
Donna Couture my pleasure, thanks for watching!
Can you use the cable tethered and the iPad tethered at the same time? And when you tethered to the iPad are save there?
Manuel T that's a good question about simultaneous wired and wireless tethering, I'll look into it and get back to you. Personally I use Capture One for wired tethering and there's a really functional app connected to that I use for the iPad while tethered to the computer.
Also, the photos aren't automatically saved to the iPad but you can save them individually or many at a time if you want to.
I'd like to see remote shooting!
Best solution so far.
Hey Scott- How far away from the computer can you be? What kind of range does the wireless tethering have?
Hi! I'm not sure of the absolute max, I can test it outdoors once the rain stops in a few days, but I've been able to use it up to about 20 meters (over 60 feet) between rooms in the house with my computer.
Scott Dumas If you’re also curious, that’d be awesome. But not necessary. The 60ft answer helps immensely for my purposes right now. Thanks!
Should be as long as you have a wifi signal. Go too far away from the house or studio, and it stops working, just like wifi on an iPad or something.
Good info but can I do all this with an ipad pro?
Jaime Loyola Thank you! As far as I know it shouldn't be a problem on any ios device. The only differences should be what functions are allowed by the camera you're using (some cameras can't stream video for example)
What is the range you can shoot and capture to the Ipad? How far apart will this function work?
I've been able to use it up to about 20 meters (60 feet) inside my house with no issues, but never really tried it further than that.
L, M, or S.
In the video I used the largest jpg to transfer, then tested RAW files separately afterwards, way too long on the computer though. :)
How to connect or share photos from canon5d mark3 to smartphone
I don't think that camera has built in wifi, so without some sort of additional accessory you aren't able to do that directly.
Nice videos just watched a few of your videos tonight going to subscribe. How did you come to live in Japan? Just curious
Jason Davis Thanks so much! I appreciate that. I started out teaching English here then met my wife and got really settled in so I stayed. :)
Hello, is it posible to shoot in row+jpg but only the jpg file remoting into the ipad?
Yes! I forget exactly where the option is but you can choose which of the files will transfer
Scott Dumas are you sure? Couse I don’t see this option.. only on the utility
@@nicolazucca At least it used to be in the app, but I haven't used it in a while so can't be sure. I'll check it out when I get a chance and try to get back to you
Would be nice :/
Is there a solution for "camera is not recessed" on you iMac? I us the canon 5D iv and the iMac OS X El Captain. I Like to here from you!
can i set it to transfer only the jpeg to the ipad but keep the raw on the camera? or it will transfer everything? also which card does it send from? thanks!
***** It will only send the file from the SD card it seems. So if you save jpeg to the SD while saving raw to the CF card it will only send the jpeg.
Thanks! I am actually deciding between the 5d and 1dx. This feature makes it very attractive for the 5d. But the price difference is not that much.
Hi Scott, could you tell us what tripod head the 5D IV is mounted on?
William Chan of course! It's the Arca Swiss p0 head :)
You can view the wireless images on a phone, but not set adjustments
It may depend on which camera you're using... different cameras have different abilities in the app from what I've heard.
HI Scott, excellent Video. I just wonder if we can download the raw files into lightroom, to start editing. I heard they don't have support yet. help?
Alejandro Pena thanks so much! It's no problem, lightroom, Photoshop and capture one have all been updated to support the files!
Scott Dumas Best news of the day. thank you.
Scott Dumas Will it import photos that’s already on the card ? Because I wouldn’t want that
Can you print this images using the I pad or do you have a folder in the Ipad ? or is just view only.
I believe you can save photos to the iPad so if you have a system that can print from your iPad you should be able to.
2 Questions:
1) Have you tried testing Photo Mechanic instead of Lr?
**update reading is key**
read the comments so never mind i found the video
can you test remote shooting from the ipad....i would like to know how much control you have over your camera via the ipad ...maybe nfc and gps data as well...
:) Hope it helps! Thanks for watching!
I have a 5dmk4 and sometime when I change the len I lose connection
Clients viewing in real time will want to see each image full screen as they're taken. Is this possible?
+104507699314085970837 Unfortunately not automatically, you'll have to back out to the menu each time to see the newly imported photos.
All I want to do is what Robert just said........why did canon leave this out......it's stooooooopid!
i see i´m no only one still moving through the menu with the joistick...it seems we forget it´s touch screen!
Thanks for this video!!
How do you get the images to autoload while in full screen on an ipad?
Brett Lemon Unfortunately you can't at the moment. You have to back out of the full screen to the gallery of images and then choose one again. You can swipe back and forth while full screen but only between images that were already loaded when you entered full screen, not images that have been shot and imported since then. I've contacted Canon about that multiple times so hopefully they'll address it in a future update.
Hi Scott, do you know if this option would work in Capture one pro?
You know, I would have to try it to be sure, but if you set up a Capture One Session, then choose the "Capture" folder as your destination folder for the images in the EOS Utility settings, it just might work. It does automatically add them in Capture One as I copy and paste raw files into that Capture folder so theoretically it's the same idea. I'll try and test it out tomorrow!
If it does work, which I think it would, that would actually be a pretty sweet little setup (besides the long import time).
It does indeed work! I'll be posting a video about how to get it set up tomorrow :) I'll add the link here when it's ready.
Scott Dumas I need try and see if it works with my setup!, thank you again for taking the time.
Hi Scott!
What's hanging on the side of the machine (5dmkiv)?
Hi +Zoltán Bese! It's the attachment for the Peak Design Sling strap, you can see my video about that here:

mehran ghiasi depending on which speedlite you have you can use wireless triggers like pocket wizards or the ST-E3 from Canon. :)
Scott Dumas thanks for replying back yeah I do have cameron hss240-c ttl which was working on my canon t3i but not working on my canon 5d mark 4 which I bought it last week
mehran ghiasi no problem! Yeah you'll probably need some kind of radio trigger or ttl cable 👍😊
where can get the software? i bought the 5d mark iv but no cd
Washington Saldanha You can download it from the Canon website- just search EOS Utility and something should come up.
Where I can download digital photo professional please?
You should be able to download it from Canon's website. Just google it and one of the top links should lead you to it.

How to check the phone on the phone
Sorry, not sure what you mean?
Thanks for the demo.
Cactus Tweeter my pleasure! Thanks for watching!
tethering wirelessly consumes battery power on the 5dmkiv incredibly fast, just saying. I use wired connection and that works best for me.
I love the videos from Scott. But does anyone else keep clearing their throats while watching this?
Nic Barella Haha, thank you :) Believe it or not I was actually using iPhone headphones as my "lavalier" mic in this video, so it picked up so much extra noise (i.e. super loud swallowing lol). Thanks for being patient through it!
Does it work with Capture One?
It does! Though slightly differently. I have a video about it here, hope it helps!
