  • These commercials aired on CBS on March 10th, 1984
    1. "Garfield On The Town" Commercial Bumper (Brought to you by McDonald's)
    2. McDonald's
    3. Frosted Mini-Wheats
    4. Frosted Flakes (Seriously...the coveted "secret formula" is corn flakes with sugar)
    5. Promo for "Maggie Briggs" (This lasted for 7 episodes before it was canceled)
    6. CBS Sports Promo
    7. WDVM Station ID
    8. McDonald's (The character here is Captain Crook, who was completely phased out of their advertising a few years later. The version here was a toned down, more kid friendly version than his original appearance in the 70's: i.imgur.com/8zUMofN.jpg)
    9. Rice Krispies
    10. "Garfield On The Town" Commercial Bumper (Sponsored by Rice Krispies. "Crisp little puffs of rice that talk to you..." LOL)
    11. "Garfield On The Town" End Credits
    12. Eyewitness News Promo
    13. Chesapeake Bay Seafood House (What a short, pointless ad)
    14. Maryland National Bank
    15. Promo for "Hour Magazine" (Ron Howard would have been promoting "Splash", which he directed and was released on March 9th. Though not remembered much nowadays, the success of "Splash" was instrumental to the career of Tom Hanks and established Howard as a major director)
    16. CBS Special Presentation Bumper
    17. "The Bugs Bunny Mystery Special" Commercial Bumper
    18. McDonald's
    19. Snickers (With hockey player Mark Kumpel)
    20. "The Bugs Bunny Mystery Special" Commercial Bumpers
    21. McDonald's (Trippy animation)
    22. Flintstones Complete Vitamins
    23. Promo for "Kate & Allie" (Kelsey Grammer sighting at 7:34. Later that year he would start playing Frasier Crane on "Cheers")
    24. WDVM Station ID
    25. "The Bugs Bunny Mystery Special" Commercial Bumpers
    26. Kal Kan Cat Food (Hmm, I didn't know they made cat food too. I guess it's the association with "Back to the Future" that made me think they just made dog food. And when you live alone and own three cats...that might officially be the point when you become a crazy cat lady. Kal Kan knew their target demographic well)
    27. Colgate Gel
    28. "The Bugs Bunny Mystery Special" Commercial Bumper

Got to love that Mel Blanc is the voice over for the Bugs Bunny Mystery Special bumpers.

At 3:04 what seems like a nondescript, basic cute blonde little girl in a cereal commercial is none other than Melissa Joan Hart of "Clarissa Explains It All" (1991-94), Sabrina The Teenage Witch (1996-2003) and "Melissa and Joey" (2010-15) fame in a early acting gig!

I was born in 1974. Everything was just better in the 80's compared to today.

Garfield specials were always so high above every other animated prime time special back in the day. There was just something better made about them than the much cheaper Charlie Brown or Bugs Bunny specials at the time.
Man, I miss Lorenzo Music. He was and always will be Garfield. Forget Bill Murray or even voice over legend Frank Welker. They did their best, but there is no replacing Lorenzo.

+yusakug "Garfield's Halloween Adventure" and "A Garfield Christmas" are honestly two of the best holiday specials ever made. Say what you will about the comic strip or Jim Davis, but the animated specials (and "Garfield & Friends") were awesome.
My friend's father was close friends with Lorenzo Music and her family attended his funeral. He was by all accounts a wonderful person and is missed by a lot of people.

+80sCommercialVault That's so cool that your friend's father knew Lorenzo Music. I heard he was a great guy. One of my favorite stories I heard about him is he used to volunteer to work on phones for a suicide prevention hotline. People who were close to ending their lives would call, and hear his voice, and ask him "You sound like that cat on TV..."

Interesting fact about Jim Davis. He is an alumni of Ball State here in Indiana. My boyfriend also graduated from there.

I had the "Bugs Bunny Mystery Special" recorded on a beta tape. I lost track of the tape at some point, and over the years came to believe I had imagined that the special had ever existed.
