  • These commercials aired on CBS on October 26th, 1984.
    1. "Garfield In The Rough" Commercial Bumper (Sponsored by Kellogg's and McDonald's)
    2. McDonald's (With Lego Happy Meal toys)
    3. Raisin Bran
    4. McDonald's
    5. CBS Station ID
    6. Rice Krispies (With free "Kooky Doodles" LOL)
    7. Frosted Flakes (I think the image of Tony the Tiger riding a horse is going to stick with me forever)
    8. "Garfield In The Rough" Commercial Bumper (Sponsored by Kellogg's and McDonald's)
    9. "Garfield In The Rough" End Credits
    10. Promo for "Muppet Babies" and "Pryor's Place" (RIP Richard Pryor and Robin Williams)
    11. CBS Sports Promo
    12. Remember to Vote PSA (Weird and creepy...the perfect Halloween themed voting ad!)
    13. CBS Station ID
    14. PAAS Halloween Makeup Kits (Amazing! Of course the scariest costume shown here is the Ginger Clown Girl :shudder:)
    15. AMC Jeep Renault (I love the graphics at the end)
    16. Promo for "Hear Me Cry: A Schoolbreak Special" (I've never posted a promo for an afterschool special before)
    17. CBS Special Presentation Bumper
    18. "It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" Commercial Bumper (Sponsored by Peter Paul Cadbury and Nabisco)
    19. Wacky Fruit Bubble Yum (Even in 1984 you had to worry about teenagers finding sex on the internet)
    20. York Xtra Peppermint Patty (6:48 is the type of thing that would have scared me as a kid. Also, the thing they used to grab his toupee is obviously visible at 6:34)
    21. Almost Home Cookies
    22. CBS Station ID
    23. Chewy Chips Ahoy (It seems like Nabisco was getting a LITTLE out of hand with the soft cookies back then)
    24. Cadbury Roast Almond Dairy Milk Chocolate

When it shows Ronald McDonald with the balloons floating up around him, all I could think of was "Oh yes, we all float down here..."

+yusakug It speaks volumes about Ronald's appeal that he's a clown I DON'T find scary...

Ah, the old CBS Special spot! And "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown". I never get tired of that one.

This is a particularly great installment of the commercial series. Thanks for this!

The plot summary for "Hear Me Cry" on IMDB: "Two high school sophomores make a suicide pact."
I did a quick search and found that the whole special is online (with the commercials!), but my excitement (for the commercials!) died when I actually started watching it: Whoever uploaded it sped the whole thing up, meaning that everyone in a film about teen suicide talks like they're from Alvin and the Chipmunks.

I had these two specials once upon a time. Thsi exact broadcast, I'll bet. Unfortunately, my parents must have been watching them, because there were no commercials during them.

+DreamDancer82 Oh, man, I feel for you! So many of our old tapes have the commercials paused. I wish my mom hadn't done that! At least we have some tapes with old commercials on them, but not nearly as many as I would like.

***** I don't even have that old tape anymore. When my sister and I were pre-teens, we stupidly used it to tape other stuff, because at the time, we weren't interested in the commercials, and everything on it was available in stores. And I am still kicking myself for that one!

+DreamDancer82 I should still know these scenes by heart since I still have the tape this was recorded on and with the commercials intact. Same heart attack inducing CBS Special bumper with added scary animated panther.

I remember that PAAS make-up in the stores.

+rantanamo And I always though Paas only made Easter egg coloring kits.

+Skull10 I guess that's why it stands out in my memory. Also remember those inflatable costumes, where only the head would inflate. Super obscure 80s memories.

That Bubble Yum commercial reminds me of The Cars "You Might Think" video.

One of the few Garfield specials I never saw.
Pryor and Williams together? Wow. That show didn't last long either.
    They died. VOTE!
No joke but those Almost Home cookies were good as were the Keebler Soft Batch around the same time.

I didn’t know Cadbury made anything other than the Easter Eggs.
