I just love seeing promos for "Real People," as people who grew up during this time just couldn't get enough of shows like that and "That's Incredible!" "Hello, Larry" was the first show I knew of that was based in Portland, Oregon (where I'm from!) and I'd guess it was rated higher here because of it. There was a backdoor pilot for the show on "Diff'rent Strokes" where the family went to Portland and visited Mr. Drummond's old friend Larry. I'm a longtime fan of your videos, and I'm glad you're including these 70's commercials, even to show us that there wasn't an abrupt transition once the 80's started!
Hanna-Barbera Australia also produced _The Flintstones Meet Rockula and Frankenstone_ that year but its original broadcast date was delayed to October 30, 1980--one year after this particular special originally aired.
For a video this old, the quality is amazing. The Witch's Night Out footage here immediately reminded me of Nelvana's pre-Rock and Rule animation so I looked it up and found out that it's from Leach/Rankin Productions, another Toronto-based animation studio! The more you know...
0:41 and 8:25--"Reach out, reach out and touch someone!" I remember hearing that jingle all over TV and radio back in the day. 2:17--One of the best cereal jingles ever!
@@regiseal Ha, yes! I would alternate candy bars throughout the week depending on my craving. I'd buy either Summit, Twix, Milky Way, Skor (chocolate-covered toffee bar), Whatchamacallit, 3 Musketeers, or Snickers. When I didn't buy those, I'd get the chewy Sweet Tarts (3 big tarts in a pack), M&M's, or chips.
RE:that Buck Rogers promo..sounds like the announcer was trying to do his best Daffy Duck impression"Buck RRogers,in the 25TH CENTURRYYYY!!" lol Yea that Different Strokes episode w/ Grady was a two-parter,he claimed to be a relative of Arnold and Willis i think..kind of got serious towards the end of part 1
+FanimationXV I think the first VCR's came out around 1977 and they retailed for 6,000.00 bucks and these were the big silver bulky kind with the knobs...I believe the laser discs came out in the late 80s.
There was a family on my block that had a huge VCR with dials in the 70s. The dad worked at IBM , & the kids invited us all over to watch Home Box Office. I was thinking it had something to do with getting movies from the mailman. I wonder if Reed Hastings had the same confusion when he was a kid?
You might be able to hear him on the radio again if one of your stations carries "Classic American Top 40." In my area, the 1970's version airs on Saturday mornings and the 1980's version on Sunday mornings.
WRC was our local NBC station, so I must have seen these very spots that night at age 10. Of course I don't remember them, but I do remember my dad hating "Witch's Night Out" and telling me I was wasting my time watching it.
I was born in 1971, and I'm old enough to remember when there was one kind of Cheerios--the plain ones in the yellow box. I think Honey Nut Cheerios came out in the late 1970's, so they would have been new at this time.
Love hearing Casey Kasem's voice overs for the the NBC promos. Classic! Thanks for posting!

+Yoda Pagoda I like the late 70s too
Sleeping Beauty is my favorite Disney film as well! What a trip to see such an old TV spot for it.
That Hanna-Barbera logo, SO many childhood memories

Quality schmality! These commercials are fabulous!
Aaaaah. 79'. I was ten and thanks to the animated version of Lord of the Rings I was Gandalf for Halloween. Thanks for the trip back!

Goop goobly moop! That was Whitman Mayo (Grady from Sanford & Son) in the Diff'rent Strokes promo, and he played a junk dealer in that episode!
I completely forgot about Summit candy bar. Used to get that at the concession stand right after lunch at school plus a Coke.
I'm young (21) but that commercial makes me wish they were still around to try! Look delicious.

Haven't seen Summit in ages. I think they were kind of like Twix, but with peanuts.

That's Ken Nordine doing the voiceover in the Levi's spot.
I may have only been 5 when these commercials came out, but I'll be damned if some of them don't ring a bell.
01:12- no cg manipulation of the dog's mouths, just good 'ol fashioned peanut butter on the roof of the mouth trick. Ah, life was better before cgi..
I thought VCRs and Laserdiscs weren't made until the early 80's. Interesting to see that they came out in the late 70's.

Laserdisc first came out in 1978 under the brand "DiscoVision".
80sCommercialVault Thank you.

This was on my birthday 😂
You mean Honey Nut Cheerios hasn't been around forever?
