The good old days when TV ads were terrific!! I watched TV ads from 1964-1989, when they were current. Most had jingles, and were of items people used...food, cars, beer, candy, aspirin, household products, coffee, tea, etc. I never heard anyone back then gripe about them. When I watch them on you tube, they bring back the cozy memories of my childhood and teens. I liked the cigarette ads too, and none had ever made me smoke. They were entertaining. None were annoying.
It's almost Independence day and we got commercials from the bicentennial year! They go way back to when I was less than 10 years old. Whoever recorded this off the air must've been one of the luck few to own a VCR, or as we would call them, video recorders.
It's funny how I seem to remember a lot of beer commercials from that period, even though in 1976 I was 16 years too young to legally drink the stuff (LOL)!
I was in middle school when these aired originally The Maybelline Kissing Potion was something all us 7th and 8th grade girls wanted. Oh, the flavors. I felt truly grown up when I got some.
6:12 Arby's was my first job out of HS. and the apple and cherry turnovers were the still made by Pillsbury. I'm guessing the kids making them had the munchies. "It's our turn to bake," indeed.
Crazy. In September of 1976, my father wasn’t even 13 years old yet. I may have been born in 2000, but my mindset, as well as my interest, is forever stuck in the 20th century.
These ABC promos are so epic...it helps having Ernie Anderson doing the voiceovers, but so many famous shows! The Bionic Woman, Welcome Back Kotter, and Barney Miller...with Abe Vigoda! I'm really glad you post these commercials as well, it's easy to see how the 70s style continued into the early 80s.
5:50--Pillsbury had some great catchy commercials back then! I think they also had better products when they were an independent company, before they were bought by General Mills.
To a young boy in the 70s Lee Majors was the equivalent of a mythical god being the Six Million Dollar Man as well as Farrah Fawcett's husband. I remember just staring dumbfounded at the Dynamite Magazine story's pictures about their marriage. It scrambled my brain how one person could be so coool.
@@dorothydromgoole8040 Michael Knightish with a chimpanzee in a red big rig. There's an old truckin show with Claude Akins(sic?)that I can't remember the name of, but it keeps popping up all over the net.
Lots of high profile ABC series here. So much so that I'll have to take some of those Coke cans and partake in that long established California tradition of laying on a rock. OUCH
I don't understand what the heck that Coke Lady is talking about either. As soon as she said going on a rock to lie down? I was like what? Also I wouldn't have known that was Vic Tayback in that commercial. I didn't recognize him. Thanks for uploading.
Connie Needham from Eight Is Enough and Charlene Tilton from Dallas in the Pillsbury Turnover ad. EiE would debut in March 1977 and Dallas in April 1978.
10:15--I remember the "aspirin wars" back then! As young as I was, I still distinctly remember the magazine ad for Bufferin, where they claimed to have extra ingredients that made their product superior to Bayer and Anacin. On TV, Anacin made the same claim, as in this commercial.
The actress in the UP$ commercial looks really familiar, but I can’t place the name. It’s not Bonnie Bartlett, I don’t think, but it looks a lot like her. Does anyone know?
I did a little research and the date of 9/30/76 was a date in general for when all of Chevy's new 1977 models were rolling out, most if not all of them had the features described in the commercial, I'm sure.
that M.A.S.H promo-meltdown much..? lol Happy Days-that was the demolition derby episode with the Malachi brothers("Let the pigeons loose!") Baretta-how was he able to keep that guy from kicking the cigarette out of his mouth XD Kotter Miller & Randall..would make a good law firm Mild correction RE: the Alka Seltzer ad-i believe thats Ernie Sabella,a.k.a the voice of Pumbaa from The Lion King
I love these old commercials from the 70s (and your 80s commercials also!). The commercials on tv nowadays are imo not very entertaining. Oh there's an odd one here or there (like the finish dishwashing one), but to me these older ones are the best! Great to watch when there's nothing good on the tv (more and more the case nowadays).
@@cyphrinfinity9992 The 1970's and 80's (and maybe the early 90's) had the best commercials IMHO. I love watching retro-formatted TV channels like Me TV and Antenna TV, but I miss the old commercials. Wish they could show a few during their broadcasts--perhaps one or two commercials each half-hour that aired during the original broadcast of that particular episode.
Don't they change movie titles just because the original movie was a bomb in the box office and the network wants to try to fool some unsuspecting people into watching it? I remember NBC took Justine Bateman's "Satisfaction" and tried to readvertise it as "The Boys of Summer" just to highlight supporting costar Julia Ronerts.
VCR's have been around since 1975. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Videocassette_recorder#Mass-market_success And is the color question serious? All of the major networks have been broadcasting in color since the early-mid 60's.
LOL While I have the opportunity THANK YOU for uploading these. It's a blast from the past for me and really appreciated. I know color has been around since the early 50's, but I meant recording in color. I remember some family friends had a VCR in the early (very early) 80s, but it didn't record in color.
There are actually quite a few recordings in color from the mid-late 70's out there, so while the VCR's used to record them may have been very expensive, it was not impossible. It's also possible that this is a copy of a KABC network aircheck recorded onto a VHS tape years later.
A clip from the movie M*A*S*H that was new in theatres at the time. It's the film that the classic television series was based on about doctors and nurses in a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital during the Korean War.

Wednesday night was my favorite night for TV with "The Bionic Woman", "Beretta" and "Charlie's Angels " in 1976-77!

You and me both.
Thanks for uploading and thanks for getting the Budweiser jingle stuck in my head! 40 years free and now it's back!
I was just thinking about you, because these commercials are old like you my friend, and here you are! Now I can't get YOU out of my head.

just turned 11 and started 6th grade. wonderful era
Remember having so many cool toys in 1976,and remember a lot of good music during that time
Thank you for this!! really love seeing these old commercials.
I went through every 70's upload and this appears to be the oldest one. September of 1976. Wow. I was about 3 months old at that point.
@theonetruewonderfly my 5th bday was in September ‘76. I love these old commercials and the nostalgia.

I noticed back then they had the dates for everything showing in the line ups, something that they do not do today.

As a native Californian who is well-versed in the art of relaxing in the sun, that lady is nutty.

She I guess lived along the coast somewhere where there were a lot of rocks along the beach and she would go lay out to get a tan on the rocks.

Bonnie Bell

After several surgeries, I can assure you the $6 Million Dollar man was lying to us. Replacement parts are never as good as OEM.
This is groovy!
Anyone catch the visible boom mike in the Burger King commercial (at the 4:01 mark).
+Dave Thielking something like that would not have been visible on any TV back then due to overscan.

I thought it was Bonnie Barlett in the UP$s commercial she's a good actress especially in Little House and St.Elsewhere.

How was this recorded in 1976? In color? In such high quality? This is years before VCRs
