Every now and then, I often post how much I wish I was living in the late 1960's through the late 1970's.... but then Johnny Cash reminds us all of how very real the gas/energy shortage was. :(
Late reply but, yeah, the energy shortage yrs WERE rough. But then again, I remember sev yrs before when stations would have gas wars. People would eagerly await the lowest price a station would go to get(keep) your business! Even for a kid who only needed a gallon to mow afew yards. hey, a couple cents was a couple cents.
A Ford maverick, don’t see many of those around anymore. Cheap transportation and people drove them into the ground. Way better then the pinto. Around the 7 minute mark for STP.
The Ford Pinto, my dad told me it's a "Claymore mine with wheels". And Colombia no longer grows tobacco, just thought i'd share that with my fellow RUclipsrs.
There was a bit of a design flaw that validates your dad's concerns about the Pinto. When in a severe rear impact accident, the fuel filler neck would push through the bottom of the tank and spill fuel onto the hot exhaust.
13:50, back when Schlitz was a decent beer in the same category as Bud or Miller. For the past 40 years it’s been complete garbage that makes PBR look like craft beer.
Bank commercials, save energy commercials seem familiar? Yep, we were in a recession and heading into a depression just like now. The dollar is about to tank and banks are going to fail, soon. Be ready.
You can ALWAYS tell when a clump of commercials come from a SPORTS broadcast : TIRE / GAS / OIL commercials , and NO commercials for ladies or kids.
i love watching these.....i drift away from the madness of 2021.......
And 2024
My God, that was a mid size car? Looked like a boat. Huge.
I was exactly 3 1/2 years old when these aired, wish I could go back and start over again 🙏🏻
I was 7 years old 😊
I was 10 years old

I remember there were many many trees. Trees everywhere. I miss all those trees. Where an abandoned mall now stands, a fprest once was .
An ad for Papillon!!

Mavrick was a very decent and reliable mid size car .
3:00 Johnny Cash on the energy crisis. The young squirts today have no idea what a pain in the butt the energy crisis was.
vela lynne odd/even days, long lines at the pump, days with no gas at all and the price of gas sky rocketing.

Car commercials of the 1970s: "Nice seats, rear view mirrors and shifter knob (please don't ask what's under the hood)"
No wonder so many Japanese & German cars were bought. 🚗
Love commercials of every decade !
Really? 🤨
I think this may have been the last year that cigar ads could still be shown on TV before they were banned.
1976 they were banned
Man those cars...
Dad worked for the equitable back then.
13:18 it's not a 70s commercial compilation without the voice of the great Peter Thomas.
Ford Mustang II-Look what they've done to my car! They put a Mustang body on a Pinto! 1974 was the only year the Mustang didn't have a V8 option.
It was a really dismal change to the Mustang.
Vertical hold please😄😎📺
No - twist the nob the other way. There it is.

My 16th birthday.
The Eveready Alkaline eventually became Energizer, IIRC.
I didnt know that the alkaline battery was even around back in 1973. I didnt notice them until the late 70s at the earliest
3:42 - Did he say Jesus !! :P \ " Shortage eases "

Man, I didn't think this commercial break was ever going to end. That's sarcasm by the way.
Johnny Cash: "Slow down on the highways."
*speed limit rises by 20 mph*
Burlington Northern merged with Santa Fe in 1985 to become BNSF Railroad. 🚂
I was 9 back then.

STP - great for cars, bad for starships !! _Star Trek: Picard_

Man, some of those cars were ugly.
Seeing Johnny Cash do oil company commercials really hasn’t aged well for his legacy.
Stupid comment
@@rick2340atyahoocom Being a shill for big oil isn’t very progressive.
Which is why he did the commercial since he wasn’t stupid

3:43 "Until we're short of Jesus?"
He meant: Until The Shortage Eases. ⛽
