Robin gives us a glimpse of this channel's adventure content to come, but we begin with covering boards and lumber organization, specifically, for the deck planking. Just as with the locust for the covering boards, we only have so much of the pine deck planking and must make the most of it.
Not all wooden sailboats have laid decks such as this one, which will be cotton caulked and pitched when it's finished. Since wooden boatbuilding is something that Steve is treating as a life experience, a laid boat deck is something he'd like to make on this journey.
We meet Sam, who most recently worked on the AJ Meerwald (state tallship of New Jersey) restoration with Clark and Eisele Traditional Boatbuilding. Now he's lending that experience to Arabella, which is more of a DIY wooden boat adventure, and he's been a treat to work with.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve started as an amateur boat builder building a 38' wooden boat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond-sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that DIY wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when he and the crew will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva.

A shout out to Ben F for his outstanding editing and sound engineering. I know “it ain’t easy” and Ben makes it look so.
Right?
Just missing the right intro music
Robin is a BEAST! What an incredible partner.
She is definitely in better shape than this old broken down 51 year old disabled veteran. Great job, Robin.
Yeah, if I'm in a bar fight, I want Robin on my side. 🤪
Well done Robin !👏 😁👍
I am a 81 year old, living in southeast Tennessee and have eagerly watch all your videos since you were cutting the different trees for Arabella. For it has been a glorious, delightful video-journey for my mind and dreams. Thank you
for ALL your hard labor and mind boggling ,amazing MATH lessons !! With God's grace ,I pray to be alive to see her in the water, finally. As you sail her, please think of me watching thru your eyes as that part of your life unfolds. Best of luck . GetErDone from Tennessee
Cheers and happy Friday to you, thank you for watching!
I has been a journey, and this 51 year old from Kentucky has been watching right along with you sir. I have lots of medical issues and hope to be around to see her sail as well. We'll be here as long as the good Lord allows, neighbor. I'm right here beside you.
40 years old here. Same journey. Thanks for having you aboard Sirs!
check out Tally Ho a ship being built
@@garycourter3738 I've been watching that channel and project for years, too.
Great video.
Robyn is a machine congratulations
Great video. Robin, you have the most amazing smile ever and your positive, can-do attitude is an inspiration. You rock girl!!! Steve, you have something very special with Robin, treat her well brother. Cheers!
The boat is looking great, but Robin is the real machine! That is some truly epic mega-hiking, what an achievement.
Thank you for sharing that amazing 24 hour hike/run. I don't really know what to call it but it was fantastic to watch those few highlights.
I love the unedited pause at the end. A little window into the realities of filming in the boat house, and the great work Ben does. Also, great job Robin!
I love that part too! -Anne
They should do something silly while they are waiting, good content for outtakes and might just put a little fun in the day.
Incredible to hike that distance in that time. Really gives you an appreciation in for the war messengers in the days of old that had to hike at that pace because lives where in the balance.
Robin that’s some beast mode hiking right there. Congrats!
Robin is quite a gal! Thanks for letting us tag along on her trek.
Awesome traverse. Insane effort. Absolute unit! 80km in 24.
💪🏼
*- Thank you Robin and Steve...for showing me my mountain home that I grew up with again one last time...Zeeland hut **24:36** looks different now it seems...and did you swim in Lonesome Lake?*
*- Do the locals still call running the Presidential Range: "Running The Ridge"?*
*- At sixteen, I was driving up the Auto Road each morning in the dark to tear down the old Mount Washington WW2 Jet Engine Testing Laboratory.*
*- My high school buddy and I would watch those who tried to do what you are doing again.*
*- We also watched the UNH and Dartmouth College football team guys who wanted to build their leg strength by packing 150 lb pack of food or propane gas cylinders up to the top for the weather station and for the Mt. Washington Cog Railway commissary at the top.*
*- Back then the pack frames were ash ladder packs with leather strapping, long leg pole that could be attached so you could turn your back to the grade, set the leg poles and rest standing up without taking off the 150 gear.*
*- Oh, by the way for the gals out there who are interested...the cut off blue jeans slit all the way around the inseam that those guys wear is so they do function like a skirt, all the better to provide free and abundant cooling air to that area...*
*- AND yes, like the “Scots”, all without underwear to interfere with anything.**
*- The only way to do mountain skiing in the winter to sleep under the stars at Winter Solstices to mark the sun rise coming up through the notches and setting down through other notches on a {secret} high mountain is totally in the nude even at 0 degrees F so that none of the clothing gets wet with sweat...well, maybe keep on a Swedish large square hole fishnet jersey to act like a swamp cooler to help bring the body temperature down so you can push harder and faster for the run up in 3 foot deep snow!*
*- Oh, the joy running the mountains and "Calling The Mountains" {resonating/echoing the notches with a properly pitched call}...just to say hi to those miles and miles away who know you have gone up there to reconnoiter "what is what" and "who is where"...do you think 10th Mountain Division knows how that is done?*
Wow! great to meet Robin. The Woman-Of Steel! Congratz Robin! And Steve, I always love you and Arabella.
Well done Robin, Steve is showing some perseverance on Arabella, but you stepped it up a notch!👏👌
Wow ... I'm surpriseed you all have any head left, after all that scratching ...
Welcome Sam, and thank you for being apart of this amazing journey ...
Keep doing what your doing .. Because what you are doing is nothing short of amazing !!!
Thanks, Jim!
Had to watch Salt & Tar leave the dock finally. Arabella looks beautiful, all that gorgeous wood. I should have been a professional woodworker instead of a fish culturist. Wood is just so beautiful. Thanks gang.
Their launch was pretty awesome. I have a feeling that engine is going to be the bane of their existence.
YES, one launch down and two to go…you know who I mean, I’m sure.
Thanks for being a fish culturalist, though! 😁
@@garyfairbrother5532 now the race is on between Arabella and tally ho for the water
Steve and Robin are adorable, such a nice touch to see their adventures together
Outstanding effort Robyn, really well done and to all those who supported her in the walk.
Great job Robin, that’s quite the hike and you crushed it! As always, great work on Arabella everyone!
Boat is looking so amazing.
Well done Robyn huge effort 🚶♀️
Robyn - you are a superwoman. Congratulations!!!
Great accomplishment for Robin! Lots of courage and tenacity to walk the trails in the dark! Congratulations Robin!
amazing how just seeing the covering boards laid in place fills in how she'll look completed--great lines
What a fun video! I've been watching/commenting nearly since day one, I love videos like this where there is more variety and side stories that are also part of it. You have captured the essence of life and living with a goal. The fact that you're sharing all of this with strangers is amazing! We love it! Continued blessings to you all!
Thank you!
Congratulations Robyn on your successful hike.
Big ups to Robin! Amazing accomplishment !
Nice job Robin! You Crushed it!
Welcome to the project Sam. So cool to see the deck and covering boards coming together. Congratulations Robin!!! You crushed the 24 hour trail hut challenge. Thanks for sharing!
Congratulations, Robin! What an example of perseverance! Enjoy it, and I hope you and Steve can share what comes next on your list of adventures!
Congratulations to Robin, like the rest of the crew she makes it look so easy. Thanks for sharing.
The deck looks great! Sailing, hiking, walking, outside boat building; it's so beautiful to be out in nature! Congratulations Robin; an amazing achievement! DD
Robin that’s amazing! Congrats… on such a huge personal accomplishment.
Loved watching the adventure part of this video! New guy seems extremely knowledgeable!! Can't wait to see more of what he does!
I mean, just huge props to Robyn. What a feat!
Nice to see new hands... welcome Sam, nice tatts!
I finally committed to patron last month, wanna see the final push to make this thing of beauty a reality.
Thank you VERY much for the support! Cheers!
This is one of my favorite episodes. Good on ya Robin!!
Wow, thanks!
Man...as much as I was excited to see the progress of the deck, I must say...the best part of this episode was Robyn's acheivement of her goal on the trail. She had great suppoert no doubt. Seeing how the folks she loves help her reach a goal she set and trained for is just. so. awesome. All y'all can revel in her accomplishment as y'all all had a hand in it. Warms my heart more than you can imagine. Great content and great storytelling. That includes the images, the process and the editing. All around a GREAT job! Thank you for sharing this amazing accomplishment with us.
Cheers, John!
A huge congratulations to Robin, I was definitely rooting for you! What an accomplishment 👏🏼
IKR? I doubt I could walk 49 miles of flat ground in 21 hours. Of course I have medical issues and probably wouldn't make 1-2 miles without calling an ambulance, but that is a while other point. Robin is a beast.
Got here because of the article in the Globe. Watched the latest video and find my college roommate at the end! What a coincidence. Congrats on the traverse and congrats to Andrew L. Not surprised one bit he decided to help out! Of course now I have to watch every video.
High fives to Robin! That was amazing. Can’t wait to see the upcoming adventures of Arabella crew.
🙌🏼
I am truly looking forward to the adventures of Arabella. Just a thing I was thinking about, when yout out and about on the high seas how will you up load content?
We won’t be out offshore all the time, so we won’t do much differently than we do it now. And we may change either the frequency of posts/length of videos, or we may release adventures as seasons and take breaks in between. It’s a long way of saying, as we say in Maine, “hard tellin’ not knowin’!”
Great ! Thanks for the reply! Looking forward to it! 👍
Robin is a bad ass, you go girl! Absolutely amazing! When I seen you were making another attempt I couldn't wait for the segment.
More progress! Awesome! Nice job Robin on the hike! Keep kicking those trails tails Arabella team! Stay safe and keep rolling Arabella team! 👍👍👊👊
Congrats to Robin on a fine walk in the woods, and hills, and up, and down, and on, and on. Well done!
🎉
awesome achievement Robin, that's incredible!
The ending was pretty hilarious. Great job Robin 🫡👏🏼
😁
Congratulations Robin! Can't wait to see the progress on the decking. looking great so far
The deck layout you have chosen is fascinating to watch and a lot of thought processing and head scratching. It is a great to have a crew who understands the goals and needs to achieve the tasks. A fine boat you be making, here!
Well done Robin, amazing achievement, shout out to the support crew massif, x
Congratulations Robin! Wow!!! Arabella coming along nicely.
Robyn is a bad ass! Great job 👍🏻.
sometimes you have to fail to make the victory sweeter...... Congratulations Robin!!! from a Colorado Mountaineer....... done a few ridges, but never an undertaking like that. way to go!!!
Great job robin those views are awesome
Wow Robin congratulations, what an amazing achievement. It’s very inspiring to see this accomplishment.
Ben is such a GREAT story teller with his editing... well done Ben!!
HE IS!!! Happy Friday, Casey!
what an incredible bunch of people, so many accomplishments, so much good vibes, amazing.
Nice job Robin you killed it!
You guys ROCK. Another fabulous episode. The boat is looking awesome. Thank you Team
I’m proud of you Steve for mentoring Aaron! Welcome aboard Sam
Congrats on your achievement Robin, that is one of the ticks in the box of achievements. May you have many more :)
Hopefully it doesn't involve ticks. :D
Awesome achievement girl!!! What a support group!!!
Thanks for the journey again Steve. ;-)
hiked 32 miles in about twelve hours (flat terrain) once. i was in no mood to repeat it again the next day, i can tell you.
bravo! on the 49 in 24.
Cheers!
Three hours early, even... 49 in 21.
I cannot believe Robin hiked that part in the dark last year. So admire her.
Right?!? Holy cannoli!
Nice touch Ben to put the riff of „Sympathy for the Devil“ under the tedious process of finding the right scarve joints! Well done, Sir! And big shout out to the whole team for another great episode!
🙌🏼
Congrats Robin! It truly is about the journey, and not the destination.
I think this was more about the clock, and can she do it in under a certain time challenge. If it was about the journey, why do it over night when you can't see the journey? Or were you talking about the personal journey of beating the challenge and not the physical spacial journey?
80km in 21h is a very respectful achievement! Congrats!
🙌
Wow, so many memories there in the mtns... I raced up mt washington on bicycle in 1:09 min back in 80's. Hiked in dead of winter at Franconia Notch and hiked the trails in that area many times, stayed at the greanleaf hut once..Great work on the hike, shes amazing...
Thanks for sharing your memories!
Fantastic achievement Robin, great piece of video
Congratulations to Robin and the team. Look forward to these videos every week, great content.
Thank you very much, Anthony!
Quite a feat that Robin did. Under the clock, she did it with time to spare. Wow!
💪🏼
Great accomplishment both on the hiking and on the boat. Your life is really full and blessed. Enjoy it all while you're young. Two knee replacements done and a pair of hips in my future tell the tail of similar adventures in my youth. I'm totally good with it though, I've done a lot of things most people (even young people) only read about. I still ride bikes and camp and travel, I just don't do it out of an old army ruck sack anymore, lol.
I helped my son move into a new house last week and I saw that ruck sack in his shed. He and his Mrs were into the camping thing for a good while. With twins on the way in a couple months, all they can really do now is get the world ready for them.
Thanks for sharing these thoughts. Happy Friday to you, best of health, and way to make the world ready for these impending peanuts. 😊
Thanks for your service. Yeah, "camping" in the desert, with literally tons of other soldiers, and living out of a tent for months on end, and walking miles and miles with an approximately 6' 50cal rifle and sneaking into buildings to find cover to watch over the troops was a thing for a much younger me. I definitely understand the "living out of a ruck".
Checking your boots for spiders and scorpions was a hard habit to break when we cane home too. I live really close to Ft. Knox still, so I still hear artillery fire and large gun practice all the time. (A (closed) back gate is right at the end of my road about 1 mile). Very rarely the Army still uses it.
So, I still don't feel like I'm totally out. Several vets in the neighborhood.
@@thomasarussellsr lol, too funny. I live right by APG, my wife says "if it wasn't for all the gun ships flying over and the bombs going off all day, this neighborhood would be perfect!
I still have dreams I'm waiting for my stick to board a C130 at zero dark thirty and bitching about how heavy and tight everything was.
The good news is the hip and knee replacement stuff had come so far so fast that you’ll be like new in no time and be ready to adventure again. So as long as you wore them out doing something you enjoyed it was worth it!
godd stuff. Soooo much respect for Robin.
Taken me 4 weeks to catch up 220 eps to current. so great to binge. Now keen to visit the States for the launch.
Wow Andrew! Thanks for watching!
Well done Robin. 😀👍
Robin is a MACHINE! The stamina you both show in different things is incredible. So many folks talk a lot of talk but only a small number can follow through like you and her. You’re both an inspiration to set a goal and finish it!
💪🏼
Another great episode. It's crazy how fast a week goes. We got to spend time with my cousin Tommy who came up from Pooler Georgia. The crazy storytime went on for four hours. We did not get him out on the lake this time. Maybe next summer when he comes back. Robin that was one heck of a hike. You made it look so easy! Have a great week!
Thanks Kathy! Happy Friday!
Yeah, and to Steve... get some sleep before operating any power tools.
The final plane pause was hilarious!!!! Awesome folks!!!
😁
Kudos to Robin…..you kick butt girl!!
Dear. Anne and Steve,
First of all we’d like to follow your habit by wishing you a happy Friday. It’s so good to see Arabella growing by every vlog of yours. The region where Steve was with friends is looking very familiar to Scotland but you also find such areas with rocks, hills and mountains all over in Europe with the exception of our country 😀. The region where Steve was is very beautiful anyways. We wish you lots of success with the rest of the building of Arabella and wish you as well as your complete families all the happiness of the world plus we send you ❤️ from the Netherlands.
Best regards,
Willeke and Dick de Graaff
Hello Willeke and Dick! Happy Friday! The region where Robin was walking is New Hampshire’s White Mountains, and incidentally it’s the place where the largest Scottish Highland games in North America are held! Very fun. I grew up not far from there. Cheers to you and ♥️ from Massachusetts. -Anne

Robin,you're something else😊
Congratulations Robin!
God bless you for your good health. Even in my best days, I could never make such a hike. Awesome fun.
Thanks for watching!
Congratulations. She Crushed it!
Amazing Robin, Congratulations.
Stopped by to say Hi Saturday evening and disappointed we didn't get to see you. My wife Barb and I did go in the boat house and bought some things and then looked around a bit outside hoping to see someone out and about. We will stop by again in a week or so on our return trip from Maine to NY. Hope to see you then, guess you won't need me to make anymore copper rivets! LOL
Hello Gordon! Thanks for stopping by! Hope we catch you. Busy times! Have a great trip!
Just fantastic. (The boatmaking AND the extreme hiking.)
🙌🏼thanks!
That Aaron will make a fine cabin-boy!
Thank you all for another wonderful Friday night video. Robin is amazing if not a little crazy, but a goal set is a goal to be made no matter how hard. Congratulations on success Robin. Great support teams for both the adventure run and the build of Arabella. Have a great weekend everyone.
Cheers, you too, Matt!
Wow! Looking great 👍👊
Great work Robyn, and what a team. Beautiful scenery. Mike 🇦🇺
Jezebel Robyn sure is fit. Well done!
Wow 49miles… congratulations 👏🏼
g'day from port stephens australia
G’day! Happy Friday!
Well I binged all the videos since first becoming aware of your project at the wooden boat show in Mystic. Wow. I'm looking forward to seeing you launch her next spring!
Hooray! Thanks for watching!
Congrats Robin!
It brought back memories of hiking through all the White Mountain Huts when I was younger.
I even "Relief Crewed" in a bunch of the huts.
I've still got most of the T-Shirts we bought so many decades ago!
Thanks for sharing your memory!
Way to Go no that hike! And the boat is coming along nicely too.
A little of two worlds, great video, a great accomplishment young lady. What fabulous scenery. Wish we could build a trail system like that in Kananaskis Country Alberta. Cheers.
Ahh... coffee and A2A: a fine start to a Friday. #a2acoffeeclub
*clinking my mug to yours* happy Friday, Bill!
Great job on your hike
