The crew spends the weekend getting projects done on deck and down below. After receiving their mission briefing from Steve, everyone gets down to business.
On day 1, Bill works in the head tying the gray water tank into the vent for the composting toilet. Up on deck, Jeff gets to work on the aft hatch while David spends his morning chasing down leaks on the deck under the propane tank. There’s been a few issues with leaks on deck, causing water to drip on the dishes.
On day 2, a bell vent gets attached to the aft hatch to allow for air flow and reduced condensation. Steve and Aaron start to wire in the hot water heater. Steve addresses a condensation issue in the hanging locker and forepeak. Condensation is building up on the bronze straps, causing problems for clothes that make contact with the moisture. The team adds a fiberglass reinforced panel to allow for air flow, which will help keep the clothes dry.
Noah brings a pig sticker for Steve, which is meant for a flag. When set up on the masthead, it can double as a windex-a visual cue on which direction the wind is coming from.
Getting to meet people in the community has been such a rewarding aspect of this adventure. It was great having the crew out for the weekend, catching up and spending time together. Of course, it was a huge help being able to complete a good chunk of the to-do list. Thank you to all who came out, and thanks to David and Jeff for organizing the weekend.
Pretty soon, Arabella will be out on the waters doing what she was meant to do.

Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat-sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva.

    Dear Robin and Steve.
👍👌👏 Oh WOW, simply fantastic! Congratulations 🎉 for all the improvements respectively jobs that got done. The boat people community seems to be really, really great all over the world. That's at least what I experienced after watching a ton of boat related videos on the interweb.
Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and especially health to all involved people.
Post Scriptum: I absolutely loved 💚 Robin's reaction about the hot water at the very end of the video.

AARON!! It's great to see you again! You have grown so much and I don't mean just in height. I was so happy to see you. How is your brother doing, Aaron? Steve, what a squirrel house you had for a few days. I'm glad you have gotten so many tinkery things done in a short time. Continued prayers for your mom and family. I really hope her treatments are working. Have a great week!

This might be a silly question because fire and boats don’t really mix but our motorhome has dual source water heater (and yes I’ve figured out how to just call it a “water heater”). In fact the propane igniter failed on one of our first trips when I realized it was dual source heat and had the electric heating element also. So for sure when paying for a camping full hookup I use the electric option but I wondered if such a heater is an option for boats? It’s a model sw10de hot water heater. Ops, well that’s how I wrote it in my notebook. It just a “Water Heater”…
    BTW another great video!!!

Partial team back tackling some boat projects in some inclement weather. "Happy partner, happy life". Check for sharp tile edges or if tiles: edges can be rounded/softened or if trim is required to avoid potential cuts. Would a vent or circulating fan in the hanging locker further reduce condensation and mold. The fibreglass sheet acts as a contact barrier for clothes. But the condensation and potent mold remains.

There's no point in opening the Bell vent higher than half the radius of the vent because at that point the area of the hole (pi×r2) will equal the area around the perimeter of the Bell (2×pi×r×h)

We as a culture have gotten so blasé about hot water. But as Robin shows, when you go from not having it to having it, it is the best thing ever.
There are rules for where you should fly which flags. Yacht club burgees, etc. go on the pig sticker, Quarantine and courtesy flags go on the starboard main spreader.

    • @AcornToArabella
      @AcornToArabella  2 месяца назад +1

If wood would just behave, that would totally work. But wider planks means the wood warps and moves more as it cycles through getting with fresh water, then salt water, then drying out in the sun. Smaller boards don't move around nearly as much, but leaks on a wooden boat are just another day that ends in y.

Another interesting video! Thanks for doing these week in and week out. Nice to see friends getting together and getting things done. I am not sure, but I suspect living on a small boat alone all winter can be a little lonely so it is extra nice when you spend time with friends getting things done! Lots of great progress. It seems like the rush to launch and then taking time to live and make updates may end up being a great approach. The fixes happening now are based on using the boat and living on the boat. Better perhaps to do it this way as compared to rushing out to sea and finding all the opportunities away from land. Fun to see the boat continue to be fine tuned! Take care, continued prayers for Steve's Mom.

Just a safety suggestion. You may want to round the corners on that piece of steel you installed.

Yes indeed. Already done, but wasn’t captured on video in the melee.

If she uses the hot water the way she was at the end of the video. your batteries are going to take a serious beating!! When showering you wet down and then shut the water off while you lather up then turn water back on to rinse and if you don't you will find you are either out of power or water.

But when in port and plugged into shore power, why not live a little?
