Cant believe anyone would give a thumbs down. I just love Donna. I'm hoping she just decided to stop teaching as most of her videos are 6 or 7 years old. She is a gem for sure!!!
Omg, I am just finishing my first quilt and can’t tell you how glad I am to find this video! You are awesome and a great teacher, I was laughing and learning, what could be better! Can’t see it from a galloping horse is my new mantra!
The best hints on quilting I've seen on the internet. My sewing teacher use to say, "It's good enough for government work!" She was a child of the Depression.
This was my very first video of you that I found. After watching this I was hooked! I overdosed on videos by you! They are wonderful. You are a great teacher and I realize you have been doing this all of your life, but I am thankful that you took the time to memorialize your knowledge that can be used by people for ages to come. Some people become teachers but they are useless at conveying their message to a classroom, lucky for us you are not one of those "teachers" who should have never started teaching in the first place. I don't know if you are still making videos, I saw a post that says it's been a few years. I hope that you and your hubby are still well. May God bless you and your family. Thank you for your gift to the quilting community, your information is timeless. :) You've made me smile today and I needed that badly.
Hi Donna, what a fantastic tutorial I'm a sewer but new to quilting, I've just watched your video on tips for quilting and I've learned so much in a short time , what a Knowledgeable lady you are , thank you . Norma ( England ) x
I like how you said "putting a name to it" justifies a technique. And when you talked about a slight mistake in joining seam "if you can't see it from a galloping horse" it's not a big deal - especially for a quilt that's to be used vs. for a competition. Your tip about just redoing a small section of a long seam to correct a connection if it was to be judged was also helpful. I enjoy your "slightly sassy" style of speaking and teaching :-) It's fun and enjoyable without being disrespectable in any way to your students. Thank you.
Thank You for an excellent, easy to understand guide to quilting. Today is my very first day on a sewing machine, and you are my teacher! Thanks again, Cathy Givans San Diego, CA.
Thank you so much for this video. You've explained things more clearly than a lot of other instructors. Even a veteran quilter can learn from these tips. Keep on keeping on and God bless you.
You have a fabulous style! I am new at quilting and tear out more than I want to. Your hints will be very helpful and hopefully my ripping time will decrease! Thank you for sharing your experience and love of teaching.
How can anyone dislike that? Thank you so much for going into the depth! The more I understand what I‘m doing, the better the results. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
I love your teaching style! I believe i will actually remember these tips, but if not, I'll watch this video again. I love your sense of humor, as well .
Thank you so much for the videos Donna. I totally enjoyed them and feel I learned a lot. I am new to quilting and appreciate how you took the time to show step by step how to. Not to mention the little humor you added in as well. It made my day :) I will continue to watch more and learn more. Have a wonderful day. ~Diane~~
You are a terrific teacher ! I just love the way you presented every scenario. You made it more understandable for me. :) , and i found your instructions a lot easier to follow.Thank you so very much for doing this video. Oh, and btw, i love your “ you can’t see it from a galloping horse.” Hahaha! I just simply love that!!! :)
Thank you for sharing these tips. It takes a lot of experience to compile tips on good craftsmanship. I've looked and looked for good videos on technique. There are plenty of quilt pattern videos, but they don't really teach you how to improve your quality of work.
Excellent It’s great to be reminded and go back to the basics Especially when I don’t spend enough time on my machine on a regular basis. I’m 51, and have been sewing since I was 7. My first big project when I was seven was a pullover hoodie my mom put on the front pocket but I did all the rest. My skills out seed my home-ec teacher in 7th grade. Because I was already doing machine appliqué and she insisted I sew on the pillow face felt by hand so she could grade it. I machine appliquéd it and it made her mad, my mom went to bat for me several times and I always ended up with an A. I remember making some clothes those two years of jr high and she didn’t believe my mom didn’t make my buttoned blouses and a jumpsuit. And a few other things without mom doing my sewing.... I did learn to make button holes. My mom also taught free motion machine embroidery to adult women and I had picked it up and made a a project that she was surprised I did it. I used to hover over my mom all the time, and would stay up late watching her sew along with watching late night tv. Now I have my own machine and have a daughter to teach. She has no fear of the machine. Thanks for your tutorial of basics
Wow so much to consider , I really found this so informative, thank you. I'm brand new to quilting , I've sewn on and off for fun all my life but quilting always catches my imagination. So I'm going to try . Thanks again!
Hi there, I love your videos!!!!!! I love your way of looking at things and all your tips and tricks. I never had anyone to teach me how to sew. I wish I could have learned from you. Maybe I can learn a little this way. Wonderful ! Thank you so much.
your hints are the best !!! You can tell you are a teacher , just love and enjoy all of the sewing i have learned from you Mrs.Poster!! Pls keep those videos coming i will be watching out for them and a big Thankyou !!
I am a relatively new quilter, and these are the best tips I have seen!! What a great video! Thank you so much for sharing your expertise with the rest of us. I really appreciate it, and have subscribed.
Extremely helpful, thank you so much. And I really appreciate that this is all basic skill information rather than "product placement" as seen in some quilting videos.
Thank you so much for your tutorials! I have sewn for many years and this is full of great information from beginning to end! Many useful tips that will bring my sewing to next level. THANK YOU!!!! :-)
From a beginning quilter, THANK YOU!!! Some of these like chain piecing I am already utilizing. But, I love the not taking out a full seam and just adjusting it - that's a life saver. 👏👏😘😍😊
Thank you for the tips. You remind me of my grandma. She would make a lot of quilts and tie them. Us cousins would help tie them underneath the quilting frame if our aunts and mothers couldn't reach. Miss her so much.
I just started quilting and your video's are so helpful, I wish I could get you to my house to spend a few days, I'd try to learn everything I could from you...Thank you so much for your time in these video's, I really appreciate them.
Thank you Donna. Your tips and hints were wonderfully explained! Have always admired your work. Took a class from you years ago, but sometimes it helps to just stop and refresh our techniques!
Nancy T. Very helpful Donna I had a mess on my hands sewing together pre cut strips my second quilt, I had to throw it away because I ironed and stretched the pieces before sewing them they came out wavy... I am going to try again after watching this tutorial...Thanks
+Joan Vachon Yes, understanding the "why" is key for me to in learning quilting tips. Like you said - what, how, & why - exactly how I like to learn - hits the nail on the head.
I’m one of those who fight with the end of the seam going toward the side. Thank for your hint. Now I don’t feel like I’m weird. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I really enjoyed your video. I'm not a quilter, but rather more of a craft sewer...some clothing for my kids? I'm new at it all---but I hope your video has shown me some great tips to getting started on the right foot. Thank you so much for your post. :)
So, sewing strips together, do we sew from the same direction each row or from opposite direction when using 5 or six strips? Loving this video and your teaching. Thank you very much! x
I took it to mean that you sew one in one direction, and then the next in the opposite direction, and so on. I have heard others say they will sew a couple of rows, and then switch direction.
I also just started quilting. You are my go to teacher. I have a question about joining my rows of chevron. My horizontal row looks flat but when I sew it to the next row it seems to wave and pucker. It doesn't lay flat. What is my problem?
when you sew long strips together, and cut them into say a nine square, how do you keep them from coming undone at ends since you don't do any backstitching?
also first time I've seen your video and learned several things I wish I knew a few years ago. A few of my mistakes you could see from a full out run. Love your sense of humor.
you mentioned sewing the strips from opposoite end s you did n' t say to do it or not to do it . as I have been told the sew always one end the come back up the other end should I do that or should slaways sew same end please answer me
SO GRATEFUL!! Seams that match!!!!! Point the one on the top towards you, point the one on the bottom away from you; that way the presser foot and feed dogs will push them together. Way too simple!
Cant believe anyone would give a thumbs down. I just love Donna. I'm hoping she just decided to stop teaching as most of her videos are 6 or 7 years old. She is a gem for sure!!!

Oh my gosh. Just that first hint!!!

I think it is a good idea so that you don't get a "bow" in your strips.
How come the starter piece does not go down like our proper piece do!
Thank-you! Very useful.
Thank you so much!
I love the « save on your nerves ».
SO GRATEFUL!! Seams that match!!!!! Point the one on the top towards you, point the one on the bottom away from you; that way the presser foot and feed dogs will push them together. Way too simple!
