I know this video is 8 years old but I am new to machine quilting and this tutorial was AMAZING. Even I was able to finish a binding with perfect corners. Thank you soooo much. Will be returning to this video is the future.
I love this method and can't wait to try it. I love your soothing voice, the speed and your funny digs at yourself. The music was perfect also. Thanks, Marti and Susie.
Hey I am a new sew-er (3 months) and I understood all she said! Thank you for this great video. I've been searching for a binding video for a couple of days now. I will be referring back to this many times. Great job!!
You are calm, easy to understand, and just cheeky enough to keep me entertained! This is a beautiful tutorial and beautiful binding as a result! I love when you're not even meaning to you are smiling - really shows your passion for the art of sewing! Thank you
Oh goodness! All you negative nancies, keep it to yourselves and scroll on! This tutorial is to help Sew-ers who are already sewing, not beginners who would not understand terminology 💫. I believe it's an excellent tute, well presented, clear language. I can see a lot of thought went into preparation. Thankyou I'm earmarking it for future reference.
I've only put the binding on completely by machine before once and I normally like doing the back by hand while watching tv but the method you demonstrated with the flange is great! I'm doing a QoV and a wall hanging and will use that 1/4" gap between the ends of the strips to get a better line. I'm also going to try putting it on the back first and then using the invisible thread. I used that several times when quilting my table mats and table runners for this last Christmas's gifts. Thank you!
Love the flange idea! If I ever decide to machine stitch my binding on, this is what I will do! I am one of those weird people who love to sit in the recliner, listening to a movie, and hand stitching my binding! lol
This technique has changed the way I will do binding forever! No more sore fingers and endless hours wrestling with my quilt on the couch while I hand turn one stitch at a time. Thank you for sharing. Just finished my first quilt using this technique and it worked beautifully!
"Seriously" difficult, no wonder you suggested long stitches to join the binding ends - but, its also quite rewarding. Love this method...on my second try it worked, perfectly. I'm so happy. Thanks to you and Susie. Well, I think YOU ARE a smartie, Aunt Marti...:)
I've been waiting for the right way to machine sew on a binding and this tut is excellent. I really enjoy the music and could hear what was said clearly. You did a great job and thank you for taking the time and making the effort to do this for us!
Loved the video! Very clear and easy to understand. It will definitely be my go-to reference when binding. Susie is a genius. And as if the video couldn't get any better, a Corgi makes an appearance! Oh my! It can't get any better than that! My Corgi has a mini sofa in my sewing room, and his favorite place is beside me while I sew.
This is my "GO TO" video. LOVE using two different colors on the binding and it is so much better for me than hand stitching. I feel it is stronger and prettier. SO EASY to follow. Your tutorial is perfect! Can see all of the tips and tricks while you are explaining. I have shared this with many friends and family who quilt. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skills!
I just watched your video and I have to tell you I learned so much from you. I like how calm you are and the pleasant music playing in the background. You describe everything so clearly. You are a great teacher with a wonderful sense of humor. I'm going to try this magic binding on my next quilt. Thank you!
Auntie Marti, I have to say that I really enjoyed the music...between your voice, the music and your very concise directions, I learned SO much! I am making my very first quilt!!! Thank you for sharing and making this video!! God bless you!
That was absolutely AMAZING! Excellent job, well put together. Easy to follow even if the word perimeter wasn't used, I got what you meant as a beginner quilter. Because I was highly interested in what you were teaching I didn't pay attention to the lightly played music in the background. Some will complain no matter what just know you hit your goal of teaching this binding technique and it was simple enough this beginner understood all the way through. God bless and will watch for others you've done. Thank you!
This was great. Thanks for taking the time to thoroughly explain how to do this. I attached the binding the same way no ruler. It works out just perfect. My next quilt, I’ll be doing this love the flange.
Thanks for taking the time to explain this so well at a pace that's easy to follow. I have saved at least four other tutorials on the flange binding and in almost all of them the instructor has accidentally mixed up a word or two. No one is perfect. P.S. I LOVE the fact that your nail polish so perfectly matches the backing!
Great video! I plan to use this method on the quilt I just brought home from my long-arm quilter. Thank you so much for taking the time to show us how to do this method.
I ran across your video while looking for binding for a Hawaiian quilt wall hanging that has been begging to be finished for a few years. Unfortunately, for me, my dining table is my only work surface. But I was determined to use this technique. The ending was really difficult. My sewing machine has such a small working area. I ended up doing it my hand. I was pushing myself to get it done NOW and I think I made it hard on myself. I will stop after work tonight to get the mono-poly thread. You are a marvelous teacher. Thank you very much for posting this. One more comment, I found the background music distracting.
Great Video! Not too long, not too short! You showed all the details I needed and were so pleasant to watch and listen too. I can't wait to try this method!
I did it! You were right when you said it doesn’t come out the first time so I ripped it out and did it again. My error was I was sewing the diagonal in the wrong direction. Thanks for sharing this binding technique. It really is the wow factor on my quilt. Wish I could show you. One happy quilter!
WOW. This has to be the best binding video I have found so far. I love the look the wee pop of color gives. So this video has to go into my stitching tips folder and the favorites as well. Thank you for sharing this.
Well this is just great. I've noticed all have something to offer, but this is truly the icing on the cake 🎂 What a simple yet gorgeous addition. Thank you. Oh now that's snazzy girl! I love how those nails match your quilt backing 💅
Thank you for you very precise instructions...this is my first time seeing you,and I did enjoy your show......but why,,,,,,,when one person corrects "the instructor ", 20 more have to chime in and do the same....very annoying..and your quilting is beautiful.....thank you . I'm just a newbie, and learning. Lou 🌸🤗
some people are not happy unless they have something negative to say. Misspellings and the improper use of words such as "you're" and "your" on various posts drive me nuts but I have to bite my tongue.
I love the background music, it goes so well with your tutorial! Love your instructions, your so calm and very detailed as well. This is keeper for me. I also feel the same way at the end of the binding it’s my least favorite as well but you make it so easy! Thank you
You had me at "hate to do bindings'" and I'm so thankful for your ever-so-helpful video! I feel much more relaxed about binding my quilts b/c of your excellent tutorial. THANKS!!!!!
Excellent tutorial! Thanks for taking it slowly and explaining what you are doing and why. While some may not like the background music, I really enjoyed it....very happy and relaxing! The quilt you are working on is so lovely! Going to check out your website. Best regards!
Hi from South Australia! I love the way you show how to do this Aunt Marti...thankyou!! You go nice and slow.. some teachers go too fast to be able to follow what they are doing. Maybe next time your lighting could just be a bit brighter please? Especially when sewing dark colours. Thankyou so much!
Loved it. I will use Suzi's Magic Binding and will show it to my friends who hate hand stitching the bindings of their quilts too. I look forward to more of your videos and will re-watch this one until have the process and my notes complete and correct. Of course I will do the easy tear out stitches everytime because even when I do corners repeatedly the 45 degree angle does not always come out correctly, Again thank you for the great info.
It was a good tutorial. Idk if I want the added step if sewing strips together for a large quilt but maybe a lap quilt I'll try it. I usually go for a single folded strip.
Great tutorial! I have always been curious about this technique. I am going to try it on a quilt I am gifting to my mother-in-law, for Christmas. You mentioned Ruth's Stitchery and got my attention, as that is my favorite store in the area! I live in Woodland Park.
Thank you so much for helping me finish a lot of quilts I started. Wow!!! This is a fantastic tutorial for my students. They mastered it and love this design
I know this video is 8 years old but I am new to machine quilting and this tutorial was AMAZING. Even I was able to finish a binding with perfect corners. Thank you soooo much. Will be returning to this video is the future.
One of the Best Tutorials! Stitching in the ditch with a flange is the best idea for machine binding. ❤and you sound like a great lady!
Wonderful! Music is annoying thougth ! You have been great at showing us ! Looks easy ! LOL cannot wait to try it !
I love this method and can't wait to try it. I love your soothing voice, the speed and your funny digs at yourself. The music was perfect also. Thanks, Marti and Susie.

Thank you so much for this video! I am a quilter who has developed arthritis and cannot hand stitch anymore! Now I can do larger quilts again!!!!!
Mom was really glad to hear it helped!

Well, Aunt Marti, I am definitely going to try this on my next quilt! Your clear, concise directions are very much appreciated. Thank you!
Your niece will LOVE the quilt! Thank you for clear demo of the faux piping/binding.
Love this method Aunt Marti and love your matching nail polish!

Music drives me crazy,it’s not needed
That was a good demonstration and technique. Love how you talk your time to explain. Easy to follow along and keep up with.
Beautifully done - and I don't just mean your teaching style - so easy to follow. The quilt is gorgeous, too. Thank you.

This is a wonderful tutoiral and I did not mind the music at all, could still hear everything you were saying. Thanks so much for this!
Me too, usually the music is frustrating. This was decent.
Love tutorial, like the flange, and the thread idea. Nicely done, quite clear, thank you
