i am going to spend my Sunday making a baby quilt with the Flange Binding. It's SEW awesome.... AND I'm going to bind all my quilts this way now. Thank you Jenny. AWESOME
Ditto on all the positive comments...I have enjoyed and learned so much from your tutorials! I have used a number of them in quilts. Thank you so much!
Thank you, Jenny this is just what I was looking for, I need to finish up a bow tie quilt and this will be perfect I will post when finished. I love watching & learning from MSQ's tutorials
What a pretty binding technique! But even more awesome than that is the simple tip you gave about how to fold over binding at the corners to avoid the dreaded 'bump.' I just bound a quilt over the weekend using that tip, and not only did it turn out beautifully, I didn't have to wrestle with the corners (and often lose). So simple but so genius. A million thanks, Jenny!
This is the most game changing technique I have ever learned in quilting!! Thank you so very much!!! I will use this on every quilt I make going forward!!! I have always done binding on my machine, but never with the flange and never with these beautiful results!! One tip I find helpful is that I use my walking foot when I sew on my binding. I find it helps feed everything through evenly. I also run the edge of the quilt through my serger before attaching the binding to stabilize the edge and trim off excess fabric and batting! Great tutorial!! Easy to follow and clear instructions!!
Left to right was great to know. I am new to quilting and I have sew these incorrect so many times! I won’t forget again. Love, love all your tips. You are a wonderful teacher! Even the little tips you may not even know you saying during your videos are so helpful. Thanks for all you show us on RUclips
I just tried this type of binding for the first time today on a baby quilt. I didn't add a border to the quilt and the flange binding finished it perfectly! The tutorial made it easy to do. Thank you. And, you are right- stitching in the ditch with the sewing machine wasn't a easy as by hand!
Jenny, your tutorials are always enjoyable. It is wonderful to see how casually you sew and still get such accuracy. You would laugh at how carefully I pin my binding and the pains I go through to join the final binding ends - rulers, pencils, double checks, and relief when one of the pieces aren't reversed. Almost fell out of my chair when you eyeballed, cut off the end and zipped the two pieces together!
What an awesome method. I want to use this on all of my quilts. I have sewn my bindings from the back to front for years and always struggled with trying to keep my stitching uniform and straight to have an appealing look and you have given me the perfect way to finish for a really beautiful look. I see lots of ways to use it for an appealing design feature as well. Thanks so much Jenny.
I have been sewing for years and have had trouble with mitered corners. After watching this simple video my miters are perfect. Thanks Jenny your the best!
Wonderful! I had a forehead slapping moment when Jenny showed the first corner and how she folds the upcoming edge under the one she is sewing so she doesn't have to bump up onto the corner piece. Brilliant! I might actually learn to like sewing on bindings. :) ~ Christina in FL
I have learned how to quilt from your tutorials thanks so much for doing them. I love Missouri Star quilt Co. God has blessed you with a awesome talent.
again Jenny, of the 50 or so versions of this, you have the easiest to understand, you are not afraid to cut any fabric (binding) & you still are laughing & making jokes! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Beautiful and beautifully done. Love that little hint when you get to the corners, it does make it sew much smoother over the little hump. Your casual attitude is wonderful ... shows you love what you are doing and that perfection can be reached without lots of stress. Please keep your tutorials coming and the old ones still posted ... this one is a little over 4 years old, but the methods and tips still work. :)
Thank you so much Jenny....I was making my first of two baby quilts for my soon to be delivered Gt. Grand babies & didn't know how to sew a flange border....ta da......they turned out so nice.....thanks so much....you are soooo appreciated.
I tried this recently and some amazing M* forum members came to my rescue and helped me make it a success. Now it's my favorite binding, there is so much visual interest for little extra work! So glad to see such a great tutorial for it.
Hi Jenny, I just finished making a baby quilt using the Missouri Star Block. I enjoyed it so much, thank you. I have made several quilts from your tutorials. I keep watching for new ones.
After several hours of stitching another binding on by hand this week, I am going to try this awesome method! Thanks Jenny, I want to quilt more hours, not bind more hours!
I agree too!! I'm doing an EPP sew-along right now and I'm going to use this as my binding tester. I do love to hand bind, but it sure would be awesome if I could speed it up sometimes!
You explain things so well and with a lot of joy and humour. I can follow what you are doing. Thank you so much for demystifing binding. Jan from Australia. Cheers
You just eyeballing and cutting the binding ends about gave me a stroke! My insurance is using your easy binding tool. I used this binding method on a Christmas table runner I just made & it was the absolute perfect finishing touch and gave it that elegant look. I will never do hand binding again and I will never be able to eyeball and cut!! You are a genius! You have taught me so much and have watched you so many times that you have become my next best friend!
Jenny, I'm relatively new to quilting even tho I've been sewing for years. Jenny, I pray that one day I'll be as great a quilter as you & can sew as fast as you do! LOLOLOL 😂😂😂 Seriously though this is truly such a cute edging to put on a quilt! Thanks for the Wonderful tutorials they make me feel like I know you & that were friends. That may sound silly but you're just so personable!! I know you're also blessed by your children for all of their work for you & your hubby! Thanks again to all the Doan& Missouri Star Quilt Co family for your hard work on these tutorials & designs!!! I'm one of your biggest fan!!!! Hats Off!! 😉
This is one of my favorite tutorials! I love adding the pop of color along the binding. I used the Missouri Star pattern , applique, embroidery and this binding with flange to make a one of kind baby quilt for a close friend!
love that binding Jenny I will have to try it on my next quilt. I have to say you have been a strong inspiration for my return to sewing. with your easy going style you have given me the courage to tackle several quilts from full sized to pillows, placemats and runners. please keep up the great work.
Thank you so much Jenny ! I watched nearly all your tutorials and you have taught me to quilt. I finished my very first quilt, "around the world" with fabric block from MSQC. Its certainly not perfect, but for a first quilt, not too bad. I wanted to use two different fabrics for the binding and, of course, here's your amazing tutorial. Thank you so much. Keep them coming :)
Just wanted to post a comment about using your method. It's GREAT. Hardly ever hand stitch a binding now, unless it's for a keepsake quilt. Thanks, Jenny.
I love your enthusiasm and the short cuts. I've been quilting for a long time and just watching your tutorials have given me the incentive to get using my stash. Thank you Jenny.
Just love this block! Thank you for sharing the "Jenny" way to make this. The flange binding is a plus that adds so much to a quilt. Awesome as always!
Hi Jenny, you are just awesome! You are so clear in your instructions that I have finally lost my fear of making my own quilts. Unfortunately my credit card shows my enthusiasm. Received your catalogue and my friend swiped it!!!! Love you.
just did this binding method on a twin size applique quilt, about 27 feet of it, I follow your vids to the letter and just dive in like I'm a pro like you guys are, have no fear, seam rippers near, I'm about 500 quilts away from being a pro but this one came out perfect, thanks
I always hated binding because it always ended up looking messy in the back! I could never get it to lay just so in order to stitch in the ditch on the front nd have it catch the binding in the back just right! UGH!! I almost always I had to go back and do repairs afterward. This was FABULOUS! I got the tutorial on Friday morning (my day off) just in time to bind a quilt I was finishing that day! It takes longer to make the binding with the flange, but it was so much easier to finish this way and it looks fabulous! THANK YOU JENNY!
Great tutorial on the Flange. I've been a little afraid to try that, but as usual Jenny, you make everything OK! Can't wait to make this for my new Lil niece Lainey. Much Love Jen!

This is my favorite video. Even though my boys are well beyond needing baby quilts (until the stage in their lives where they need them for their babies), I love the flange binding method of attaching binding. It made me hit myself upside the head and say, "Duh, why didn't I think of that?!!" I love how Jenny and MSQC give us directions to make complicated things so easy to do!! I can't wait for my next visit to my in-laws in Missouri. I've told my mother-in-law that she and I are taking a day trip to visit the shop!! :-)
This is my favorite tutorial because it's the latest one I've watched. Each one I watch becomes my "favorite." Also, I love this one because it seems do-able and looks great.
